Stacy Summary:  More and more evidence that the financial oligarchy will not pay for their crimes as Friends of Geithner live to defraud another day.

  1. John McHarg "The Trimble Letters"
  2. Eric Sprott hosted a night in Toronto with Nouriel Roubini, Meredith Whitney and Kondratieff-wave analyst Ian Gordon called ‘A Night With The Bears’.

    They all popped in to BNN(Canada’s financial news channel) to panel a one hour special called Bear Attack, and there’s some good stuff in here. In particular, Sprott’s views should appeal to many on here.

  3. i wanted to email you but couldn’t find an address on this site, so forgive this OT post.
    i have recently taken an interest in how money works, markets etc.. and came across some info on wikipedia (that seems to have been recently removed!) that got me thinking – “countries hold excessive amounts of dollar reserves to ward of speculative currency attacks”. what do you make of this?
    karmabank – what a great idea! keep up the good work.

  4. Bonzi: That’s a lesson that was learned after the attacks on South Asian currencies in the late 1990s. What some call a ‘savings glut’ is a deliberate attempt by nations like China to build a financial cushion against such attacks. Exporting nations are very vulnerable to movements in currency markets.

  5. Gold down.  These are not my words but………

    This is, indeed, Twilight Zone weird, trapped in some kind of spooky nether-world beyond space and time, between light and shadow, between the depths of despair and the heights of imagination where the Laws of Economics do not apply any longer, but the Laws of Physics still work 24/7, and you still have to work at your same stupid job, and you are married to the same stupid person and you have the same stupid kids as the ones you had in the “other world” where the Laws of Economics still worked, which shows how unfair life is.

    thanks for keeping us up with your headlines. i check this right after the DrudgeReport, every morning.

  8. Hey Max, Great interview by Bill Moyer discussing the author of  ‘The best way to rob a bank is to own it’

  9. Dan: thanks for the info. why are expoting countries at risk of attack? I work in software and was wondering whether botnets (armies of virused computers) could be used to aid attacks or at least hide who is responsable!

  10. Carlo,

    You might be interested to know that in response to some comments posted on Bill Moyers Journal blog, William Black has written a bit more about the PCA law:

  11. Stacy & Max–

    Do you two follow adbusters by any chance? I saw the Killer Cola blurb at the bottom of the home page, and thought of you two:

  14. J McH re: 12 10 rules to live by:
    Great stuff I was really impressed.

    FT out doing itself, but then I noticed it was written by Nassim Taleb who like Max is a true Genius. It’s not that FT is so smart its that Taleb is!

    The analogy to biological systems and size is really good. Optimize for one feature/dimension and you get giant and painfully obsolete Dinosaurs or chimeric monsters (Banks) .

    Web Goddess: The reply to main works but the reply to comments doesn’t seem to work.

  15. It looks like no less than The Atlantic has gotten on board with what you and others have been saying for some time now, Max and Stacy. Here’s the link:

    http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/print/200905/imf-advice

    My only question is: When an establishment-left organ like The Atlantic starts parroting “the lunatic fringe,” what can this signify? I don’t think this Boston-Brahmin speaking tube, which has been palpitating over Barack Obama these many months, is interested in rabble rousing necessarily.

    Is there an internecine falling out going on in the upper echelons — elites burning and getting burned by other elites? I know that the world’s population of billionaires has dropped dramatically of late (would that global warming carry the rest of them off). Is this Atlantic article an artifact of this recent phenomenon?

    Curious . . . passing curious.

  16. Alex Jones is as dead-on correct about what is going on as anybody.

    This crisis was a classic pump and dump. A NWO scheme to bankrupt America for good and seize as much control and power as they can. (at least that is the new plan of the NWO).

    The one big misconception though I find with AJ is this…the NWO makes a ton of mistakes. AJ and people like him assume otherwise. They paint a picture of this machine which  makes few mistakes…WRONG. If these people wanted to kill us, as Jones assumes, what are they waiting for? If they wanted our guns, is it that hard to do? and does anybody really think a few peeshooters is going to stop the US Government from taking over if that was their ultimate goal? Most Americans will willingly give their Freedom away, no need to fire a single shot.

    The one constant with the NWO is the fact they really do not know what they are doing. They are always redoing, reanalyzing, screwing up, retooling etc. The need for power has much to do with the fact they screw-up so much. These MORONS, and that is what they are, are far too stupid to understand culture is stronger than their stupid Utopia NWO brainfarts. They are trying to fit square pegs in round holes. The more they screw-up, the more their desire to control as compensation.

  17. Bonzi: Not describing a cyber-attack, but a speculative attack on a currency. Hedge funds can move in and start short selling currency– I believe this is what Soros’ Quantum Fund did in many of the Asian ‘Tigers’ like Indonesia and Thailand. Also at issue is the flows of so-called ‘hot money’. When borders are open to the free flow of capital, without any sort of regulation, money can flow in and flow out very quickly. When money flows out, the currency tanks, inflation often shoots up, and foreign currency debts become harder to pay off. The IMF will typically sweep in at this point and provide loans in exchange for ‘a pound of flesh’(to quote John Perkins).

    If you’d like to learn more about this, a good place to start is Greg Palast’s work. His article about Joe Stiglitz, back before any of us non-economists knew his name, describes the process by which currency speculators can ruin a country and the role the IMF plays in cleaning things up.

  18. Way to satisfy your Evenful crowds in Vancouver, BC (market: Victoria, Nanaimo, Lower Mainland & Sunshine Coast) and Seattle, WA (Everett, Tacoma, Olympia) in one fail swoop.

    KCTS is seen on Canadian cable systems as far East as Winnipeg, but I don’t have absolute proof of this being true beyond Alberta’s border.

    ===========
    KCTS should be considered as corrupt
    ===========
    I have several scientific projects that have magnitude adequate enough to get on this show, but so far no luck. As as default, treat them as as corrupt as any of the other Seattle media. In order to get on, I would just slighly mislead them as to who and what you are — if they found out fully your Bio you might not get on. I would naturally get on via web vid link or sat wildfeed — showing up in person is not absolutly required.

  19. ADDENDUM

    ==========
    My previous point about total mistrust of KCTS applies here too.

    Minor addendum:
    My view is that for the SEA / TAC / YVR / VIC  markets is that there are about 800 people that would appreciate your media appearance (extrapolating from the 6-10 indicated for Seattle alone, conservitve extrapolation model).

    Note that BBC World is available in Canada but effectively banned from the USA, so the Candian maket weights are greater (but not estimated by me).
    ==========

    Add this to the KCTS shows to get you exposure in the SEA & YVR markets:

    http://www.kcts9.org/programs/productions/atm/about

    About The Money is KCTS 9′s business and finance show that spotlights Northwest business and provides advice on protecting, managing and investing your money. About the Money goes behind the headlines to ask questions about what market trends mean to us in the Northwest, from the national housing market changes to the Washington wine industry. Regular contributors provide investment trend analysis with a focus on the long term; insight into where the smart money is when it comes to personal finance; and tips for avoiding scams, from identity theft to foreclosure rescue scams and investment fraud. And, we continue our interviews with business leaders in each episode.
