Paulo, I'm a pirate since I cracked games on Commodore 64 in 1985. is your sympathy for this cause prompted through an accusation printed by another brazilian writer who, claiming you stole the odd bit from Franz Kafka?
This came up in a conversation here in Floripa last night.
Thanks for elaborating.

You guys make about as much of a coherent argument as your typical, 13 year old, Digg user.

As far as PirateMyFilm goes, it seems to me, that the word "Pirate" is a pure marketing gimmick. Because if you listen to Max, he talks about making your own content rather than pirating. It would be more accurate to call it FinanceMyFilm.

The system was supposed to service our needs, not the other way round. Furthermore, it is needless to say, that the maintenance of this system is only servicing the needs of those very few who use it as a figleaf.
If you count unemployment, copyrights, and all other premiums, it's probable that people wouldn't starve, and work less. That doesn't mean that ambitious people would get stifled, it only means that those very few sick who are trying to feed their insecurities with money, will probable have to get a pill or two to take it easy, instead.
Good for you Paulo, and good for us. We are getting bigger and bigger by the day.

The movie business as it stands is finished anyway -

The growth in DSLR HD cinematography is going to revolutionise the business beyond recognition. This is cinematography that is primarily web based in distribution and derived from a digital workflow.

http://www.vimeo.com/groups/8432/videos

This is one of the higher end products
http://store.zacuto.com/DSLR-Sharp-Shooter.html

But I reckon you could probably make a cinema quality camera for about £1000. All you need is a nikon D90 and some decent lenses. 35mm HD movie making.

So what are you still waiting for...go make something!! :)

Danny, thank you for the info.

On Nov. 26, 2006 this article was posted on Mike's site.

http://www.fromthewilderness.com/free/ww3/120206_mike_canada.shtml

In it he writes "Personally, I am through forever with investigative journalism and public lecturing. I am leaving public life." .... and later writes "It is time to move on. I spent twenty-seven years as a dedicated public activist and that is something which I am no longer able or inclined to do."

I had checked back several times during the years since but was unaware of his blogging. Good to know!

Yeah, a crazy world.

welcome. i also follow mike ruppert's work very closely (www.mkeruppert.blogspot.com) his book 'Crossing the Rubicon' changed in so man ways how i thought about things- a truly incredible book. it was pretty hard for a 21 year old playboy to hear but his work has been vindicated so many times since. he led to other like minded minds and thinkers.

....what a time to be alive eh??

If you go to my site, you'll see I stole a song from Oi Va Voi. ...Actually, I borrowed the song, and listed it as my 'song of the week,' -about two years ago when it came out. Then, I told the band I was doing so, in the blog at their site. This was no less overt an action than the time I posted thousands of posters reading: "Use Only Geunine Microsoft Shareware," -all over Austin.

Man that girl Bridgit can sure play the fiddle! But, the real reason I felt compelled to promote this Londonish-Israeli band's effort is that their song 'Refugee' so wonderfully assauges the 'Palestinean issue,' as some of us City kids (might) see it.

I never watch video, but as to 'music sharing,' everyone ought to grasp the notion of a low-res 'DEMO,' --vs-- a high-res "MASTER!" (For which you obviously need Mastercard.)

For 30 years my family has run a niteclub and paid an 'estimated' pittance to ASCAP, for public use of (their) popular songs, despite the facgt we feature almost entirely original music, from bands who will never see a penny in royalties. That said, screw the labels. SONY Pictures, shame on you for having made your preditory claims on the Music market... (rant-rant!!)

Thomas, what you're saying is that if we get rid of these copy write laws, it would be a bad thing because the people who were responsible for locking down our intellectual and creative freedoms will be out of work.

That kind of logic is similar to asking "what will happen to all the prison guards if people stopped committing acts of crime?" The prison guards are there because of a broken system; do away with a broken system and I think we would all be better off without them, don't you?

Further more, as Daniel points out, there is a significant potential for job creation in an environment where our liberties aren't as limited.

Thomas, all rotten systems benefit someone. Otherwise nobody would have the incentive to ram them down our throats and without that, nobody would put up with them. Would you have argued that it was wrong to hurt the cotton farm owners in America when slavery was being challenged? Cotton-picking jobs were destroyed after all.

Instead of looking at the costs of taking down a system in absolute and exaggerated terms, consider the full spectrum of both the costs and the benefits as well. Eternal copyrights kill thoughts and communication before they even happen. Without freedom to express, thought loses much of it's purpose. Free thought is essential to free communication, and both are essential to a healthy community. We evolved to live and thrive in communities called tribes. We didn't evolve to be mentally and socially controlled and isolated. It's just not how we're built. Consider the products of increased freedom to create and express. Don't write them off as irrelevant. That creative expression will create jobs just as all those black cotton-pickers moved on to other productive lives.

Eternal copyrights are a prison for thoughts and communication, and what more dangerous prison is there than one for the mind? Max is right when he says this is a key battle we need to be fighting now.

When creative work is released to the public, it becomes real estate in people's minds and a part of the culture. It MUST be dropped at some point after a reasonable monopoly period for profit. Otherwise that real estate in our minds and culture is forever locked away from us. That part of us ends up the property of Disney.

Pirate my Film is saying that since Disney is determined to keep our mental and cultural space from us, we need to never give it to them in the first place. We need to bypass them entirely. Considering how futile work from within various frameworks of government has proven, working outside the system is a clear choice. People are starving for content that isn't coated in corporate stink. And people are busting at the seams to create it.

Since many successful youtube content creators get ZERO money, I'm hopeful many of them will migrate to pirate my film. This means they'll get paid. That incentive means they'll create more and even better content. See? Job creation. Not merely job destruction.

So, on the one hand we have our governments destroying all manufacturing jobs and the on the other hand we have the people trying to destroy all intellectual property jobs. Gee, I wonder how that's going to work out?

I guess the only industry that'll be left standing will be the military industrial complex.

@Paulo Coelho

Thank you for your free books. I'm a Kendo practitioner and I'm very much enjoying your "Way of the Bow" book.

Such a small world! I joined facebook a few weeks ago, added Paulo Coelho and am reading The Alchemist right now. And I might not know about Max if it weren't for Catherine Austin Fitts who I learned of through Mike Ruppert's site many years ago. (Mike is retired from journalism after a lot of hard work and sacrifice).

Thomas, authors typically make money only in step with the profits of others. In fact today most fiction novel publishing is a near zero risk to capital enterprise. For the millions he made, publishers made theirs too.
