As far as PirateMyFilm goes, it seems to me, that the word “Pirate”  is a pure marketing gimmick. Because if you listen to Max, he talks about making your own content rather than pirating. It would be more accurate to call it FinanceMyFilm.

welcome. i also follow mike ruppert’s work very closely (www.mkeruppert.blogspot.com) his book ‘Crossing the Rubicon’ changed in so man ways how i thought about things- a truly incredible book. it was pretty hard for a 21 year old playboy to hear but his work has been vindicated so many times since. he led to other like minded minds and thinkers.

Man that girl Bridgit can sure play the fiddle! But, the real reason I felt compelled to promote this Londonish-Israeli band’s effort is that their song ‘Refugee’ so wonderfully assauges the ‘Palestinean issue,’ as some of us City kids (might) see it.

I never watch video, but as to ‘music sharing,’ everyone ought to grasp the notion of a low-res ‘DEMO,’ –vs– a high-res “MASTER!” (For which you obviously need Mastercard.)

For 30 years my family has run a niteclub and paid an ‘estimated’ pittance to ASCAP, for public use of (their) popular songs, despite the facgt we feature almost entirely original music, from bands who will never see a penny in royalties. That said, screw the labels. SONY Pictures, shame on you for having made your preditory claims on the Music market… (rant-rant!!)

That kind of logic is similar to asking “what will happen to all the prison guards if people stopped committing acts of crime?” The prison guards are there because of a broken system; do away with a broken system and I think we would all be better off without them, don’t you?

Further more, as Daniel points out, there is a significant potential for job creation in an environment where our liberties aren’t as limited.

Instead of looking at the costs of taking down a system in absolute and exaggerated terms, consider the full spectrum of both the costs and the benefits as well.  Eternal copyrights kill thoughts and communication before they even happen. Without freedom to express, thought loses much of it’s purpose. Free thought is essential to free communication, and both are essential to a healthy community. We evolved to live and thrive in communities called tribes. We didn’t evolve to be mentally and socially controlled and isolated. It’s just not how we’re built. Consider the products of increased freedom to create and express. Don’t write them off as irrelevant. That creative expression will create jobs just as all those black cotton-pickers moved on to other productive lives.

Eternal copyrights are a prison for thoughts and communication, and what more dangerous prison is there than one for the mind? Max is right when he says this is a key battle we need to be fighting now.

When creative work is released to the public, it becomes real estate in people’s minds and a part of the culture. It MUST be dropped at some point after a reasonable monopoly period for profit. Otherwise that real estate in our minds and culture is forever locked away from us. That part of us ends up the property of Disney.

Pirate my Film is saying that since Disney is determined to keep our mental and cultural space from us, we need to never give it to them in the first place. We need to bypass them entirely. Considering how futile work from within various frameworks of government has proven, working outside the system is a clear choice. People are starving for content that isn’t coated in corporate stink. And people are busting at the seams to create it.

Since many successful youtube content creators get ZERO money, I’m hopeful many of them will migrate to pirate my film. This means they’ll get paid. That incentive means they’ll create more and even better content. See? Job creation. Not merely job destruction.

I guess the only industry that’ll be left standing will be the military industrial complex.

Thomas, authors typically make money only in step with the profits of others. In fact today most fiction novel publishing is a near zero risk to capital enterprise. For the millions he made, publishers made theirs too.
