‘Green shoots’, ‘bottoms’ and bond vigilantes

Stacy Summary:  These headlines contradict any pronouncements on ‘green shoots’ and ‘bottoms.’  Speaking of bottoms, did you see the Bruno / Eminem clip?  You will have to hunt that down for as soon as it goes up on Youtube, Viacom has it taken down.  Also, I am looking for interesting New Zealand, Australian and/or other Asia Pacific headlines for our show this week.

[Denninger's] Disclosure: Short the American people, who appear to be as dumb as a box of rocks for putting up with this crap.

  1. (somewhat off-topic to the sites listed today, however related generally to the disturbing issue of elites and government elites – below is excerpted from a site with a great comment – tell me if you can understand this comment and what it is in referenc to – it is a well articulated)

Having run for office purely on popularity is impressive however the republic is founded on the law and in it is a requirement the presidential candidates and presidents be qualified. While it is extremely disturbing to interested parties that a person seeking high office, refuse to allow educational background information, it is far more than disturbing to refuse to qualify according to the law. Presenting a certificate which merely states facts of birth and not the required information to establish status.

The effect of misguiding half the population into a conclusion of fact without correcting it is itself discrediting and shameful. It is much more than an oversight on the part of government when it decides to deny the very law from being satisfied against their oaths. It is unacceptable and flies in the face of every true patriot as a red flag of tyranny when government colludes to thwart the peoples right to know especially when it is spelled out in the constitution. That every challenge to any other candidate has been settled without having to cause the public great fees in establishing a defense of the constitution and attempting legal actions to support them is also very disturbing and has caused a great stirring of patriotism since never in history have we the people been so blatently disregarded and the law been broken with the aid of congress and many courts. It is an awareness of the power the government has amassed and its apparent ease of abusing it without answer at all.

  3. The swine propagandist can say what they will, as they do. We will see when the lead starts to fly, then the enemy will have to show his face to the hunger stricken American people.

For now they have stolen some gold, lots of paper and tricked us into their lies and debt slavery. This can not last forever, nor can a man slumber his entire life while being enslaved and not once yearn for Freedom from his slave driver.

I am with Jefferson, may the tree of liberty be quenched with tyrant blood until all tyrants have been wasted.

Record ammo sales and no violence so far just tells me that we are at the ready. Why divulge the plan?

I talk to more and more folks in law enforcement, military and congress. People are waking up here in the US. We only await the call to cleanse our great country of traitors and global criminals. There will be no courts, nor luxury prisons. Only boxes and monuments of their crimes and deeds so that posterity may never forget, and temptation to deceive countrymen will never gain root.

  6. Mark W Anderson

In the 5/29 edition of the NY Times Nobel prize winning economist and columnist Paul Krugman said that concerns over inflation are unfounded. He predicted deflationary (Ala the Great Depression) pressures to be the major concern. He apparently believes that the halting of the printing presses to be of more concern than inflation. Could Max or Stacy respond?

  12. i know technical analysis of all kinds is not very well thought of by a lot of people but i find Bob Prechters [EWI] arguments & charts to support his arguments against gold and silver to be compelling .he is very much a lone wolf when it comes to his point of view which is why i find his views so interesting and he is well aware of fundamentals, psychology ,arguments of hyperinflation, printing money and what is happening with bonds etc , [he is not saying not to have gold ] but his history of both gold and silver makes interesting reading for gold bugs and anyone interested in such a topic. much of what gold bugs say about gold reminds me very much what people used to say about real estate, many myths surrounding both, the historical data of both suggests the reality or probability of what is likely to happen and is perhaps closer to the truth. i guess we shall just wait and see ?. [short term ,if the wavers are correct gold silver to spike complete fifth wave up then collapse back to significant lows ] who knows ? long term wavers tell us Dow well and truly below 1000 etc.that i guess we all know already. always good to look at something from opposite point of view ? Achtung ! Disclaimer: an idiot wrote this, so take it for what it is likely worth.

  13. What an arse … that Eminem, I liked the way the hired goons kept passing Bruno back and forth, a right good chuckle, gives a whole new meaning to ‘one in the eye’.

Swaning about Paris scoffing croissants jeez well for some, could almost feel envious were it not for the fact that summer has finally arrived in Dublin, the weather is glorious, am nursing a gentle hangover that reminds me of the good night last night (it doesn’t get dark till 10.30) rather than punish me for it.
Am going to take the kids to the park and work on my melanoma. Enjoy, this is as good as it gets.

    Ah Stacy
Thank you, you make my point…………….

If you were at an airport, typing away an email, when suddenly an Airfance plane crashes/cart wheels down the runway in a fireball.

Do you stand there guppy like watching the people die………….or knowning that you have 5-10 minate head start just on the Lap top to your broker think THank God the airport had Wi-fi!

99.9999% of us would just stand there, but any members of the Buildersburg…….well you know the answer.

  18. Watch your asses Max and Stacey…France planning forced mass vaccinations starting this fall:
http://www.dn.se/nyheter/varlden/frankrike-massvaccinerar-mot-influensan-1.880581 (swedish article but apparently it is from the Journal de Dimanche)

    google translation:

    France mass vaccination against influenza

    Published 2009-05-31 10:37

France is preparing now to forced to vaccinate its entire population.
Anyone who is older than three months should be given a vaccine against H1N1 virus,
writes the newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche.

The cost of a mass vaccination would be around 10 billion.
A total of over 100 million doses produced for the given
to the population starting in the middle of autumn.

The reason for vaccination is that France fears that the flu can
to become worse after the summer.

    - We are prepared to carry out vaccination in a very short time, “says a
spokesman for the French Health Ministry to the newspaper.

Vietnam received on Sunday their first cases of H1N1-flu, then a young
man who visited the United States returned to the country. The number infected in the whole
world has reached 15,510 according to WHO. Of these, 99 died.

Sweden has four confirmed cases, while the U.S. has in Mexico in 7927 and 4910.
Most people who died as a result of the new flu comes from
Mexico, where 85 of ill died.

  19. @Phil: I presume that your comment about So. Florida RE prices was directed to me—-Here in Deerfield Beach the prices you name are comparable with today’s rates ( I was fortunate to recently relocate into a 2/1 ground floor condo for $700.00 when my daughter sold her 2/1 condo for aprox .$65,000 two doors down)….So now that Mr. Geithner has reassured the Chinese that their investments are secure….what is your guess when the numbers will tell the tale differently? One month? Two?Three? Or do you suppose the backroom discussions opened new doors for the Chinese to enter ( ala something akin to the former Dubai Ports World giveaway) ? Or half of California? ( just kidding folks!!) as always, Richard@lattitude30N

  20. @Mike2liverpool – you are sounding like a sick trader! It’s too late to short them now; share price has tumbled. Anyone who shorted them last week when the company’s shares rocketed would now be sitting on quite a lot of profits. Sad profits.

  24. Hi Stacey and Max.
I guess you heard about the Asian couple(not sure from where exactly) that live in NZ and were accidentally credited with $NZ10 million instead of $NZ10K by Westpac bank. They did a runner and are still running.
Otherwise Australia just seems to copy US policy on most things. Interesting in Australia that the big 4 banks are getting stronger and actually making acquisitions while the smaller banks and credit unions are finding it tough to compete. Anyone would think this crisis was designed to reduce competition!
Other stories: Govt and others wary of China buying up commodities companies ie Rio Tinto, Oz Minerals. Lets face it China could just buy Aus and NZ, or just take them one day. By the way Aus govt announced more defence spending very recently.
A few folk in the US are advising their clients to buy gold, silver and other commodities. Looks like the lemming frenzy has begun and the new bubble is on the horizon.
Thanks for all the articles. For Aus read http://www.brw.com.au
    Cheers.

  25. @Ptah … “I would like to suggest that the US/UK has been mis-representing inflation already for sometime ”

    Forgot to add the USA…

I remember in 1986 in Miami, a nice Condo cost only 60,000$ in Bay Biscayne and you could rent a nice 2 bedroom bungalow in Ft. Lauderdale with swimming pool etc. close to the gold course for ca. 700$ per month, fully furnished with air-conditioning of course.
I wonder what they cost now ?
    ;-)

Wow .. those were great days when I was younger.

  26. @Mother Earth … “where is your bet?”

    Today .. 15:00 for 1000+ !

  27. @Ptah … “I would like to suggest that the US/UK has been mis-representing inflation already for sometime ”

“like to suggest” ? … why so polite ?

    “for sometime” … like 35 years ?

Based on “MY” memory of UK prices in 1972 and European prices in 2000 …

In Euroland, Inflation over the last 8 years has been ca. 100% for the total period !
That means avg. 9% per year.

In the UK, over the last 35 year period, total inflation has been ca. 2,000 %
That means avg. 9% per year.

WHAT A COINCIDENCE … 9% all this time and nobody told us !

  28. @Phil, where is your bet?

The way it is set up allows ongoing gambling for multiple targets. I am aiming at a scatterplot to show the ongoing predictions..

  30. @Stacey Bon apetit! Good question, somewhat in line with my remarks yesterday, because I have many questions regarding this free speech copyright debate.

Let’s say you (despite the pleasure of having just had a fresh french croissant) wholeheartedly agree with him, could you then not publish this statement as your own?

To clarify: is the word poppycock copyrighted? What about the expression ‘dumb as a box of rocks’? What about the demonstrated inference? Should there be ‘likelyhood of originality’ calculations to determine whether you could have thought of the phrase yourself, taking into account your education, cultural background and information intake?

btw, apparently DRM makes pirates of us all..

    http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2009/05/landmark-study-drm-truly-does-make-pirates-out-of-us-all.ars

Also French history has an interesting period where France was basically run as a corporation (Around the time Napoleon got lost in Egypt), wonder how that system compares th othe US today..

Don’t forget to place your bet! Will have a scatterplot soon..www.milligrambank.com

  31. We need a global currency to do smooth global trade, when Max is educating us he is using a global language currency called english no matter what country he is in, so why shouldn’t this concept apply to a global currency. This country to country currency trading and exchange is nonsense and outdated.
people are afraid of the bigger picture.

  32. MIke: I totally accept your point, I would like to suggest that the US/UK has been mis-representing inflation already for sometime – as in house prices for example. One of the M&S movies covers this in some depth.

    thanks.

  33. @Mother Earth …. “When will gold hit 1000 USD?”

    http://www.milligrambank.com

I see you are quoting “time of day” as well ; although the closing-price is of course the real deal … for TA at least.
Silver is worth watching as well IMO !
Should easily break 16 today under “normal” circumstances .. i.e. without Govt. interference !
Maybe I should sue them if they ruin my June calls ?

  34. Mike2liverpool

Ptah……………we are in sort of phoney war type thing, as i always said the danger is NOT at this stage, but when its clear that the Rest of the World is growing again.

Expect Brits & Yanks to try to mis-rep inflation as growth.
    Mike

  35. Philosophically, ‘doorknobs’ occupy a special and high position within the general cascade of intellectualism along with ‘thresholds’ and ‘hinges’.

So maybe the ‘dumb as a doorknob’ reference is a massive put-down by those who fear the heights scaled by that very humble of door furniture items – the doorknob.

  36. MIke: Would it not be true to say that we have been experiencing stagflation for the last 18 months, possible longer.

Although official figures would suggest otherwise, we know that inflation is hedonically adjusted to massage the realities of price increases so as to counter wage increase claims and we have seen zero economic growth for a few years if house price growth is removed from the equation.

And yet still them peoples will not rise!

  37. Dumb as expressions:

It is my understanding that doorknobs are the target device for implying non-intellectualism or non-intelligence, but this may not be universal in the Angosphere.

In the Frog regimes a different usage is in effect, but I can’t remember it.

Anyway, the usages I have heard and used off and on…

“Dumb as a bag of American Imperialist doorknobs”

    – implying that doorknobs designed and made outside of the US are better made and designed
    – universally I suspect that all US doorknobs are made in China
    – Canada probably has its own doorknob industry, still
    – Mexico, as per Canada ditto…

  38. @Mother Earth – The disclosure is Karl Denninger’s . . . it’s a quote from the link above it; perhaps I should make it more obvious?

  39. Rien ne va plus! When will gold hit 1000 USD?
Have you placed your bet? http://www.milligrambank.com

    If all else fails… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4ZProrMW28

@ Stacey I like the disclosure, it should be said more often. Maybe this is a way for you and Max to get a license in the US, just focus on telling people they are undereducted and for the most part seriously out of shape, see if that gets them to move and think.

  40. Ahhhh. Got my fix.

  41. @Mike2liverpool .. “Must be one hell of a Croissant!”

  44. @Bradford & Bingley counts £700m cost as 5% of borrowers default on mortgages

Damn shame … my first mortgage in London was with them in 1972 ( 12,000 GBP .. now worth 250,000 GBP today).

Things went wrong after they went public IMO / 2002 IIRC.
The 100 GBP I left with them ( I forgot about it ) went to 1500 GBP by 2006 after they converted in to shares.
Just shows you how inflated ( inflationary ) the stock-market really was .. and still is !

  45. Rise and shine!! Off to get my croissant. The boulangerie had better be open this fifth public holiday of the past four weeks. Hopefully, there will be some comments for me to read by the time I return ;)
