BBC refers to Honduran protesters as ‘fanatical’

July 2nd, 2009 by stacyherbert

Stacy Summary:  Interesting in light of the broadcasters active campaigning for certain Other People’s Revolution.

But what of the Honduran people?

Recent events in Tegucigalpa, with hundreds of protesters chanting the president’s name have proved that he has his fanatical supporters.

“He is the democratically elected president of Honduras. He was kidnapped by criminals,” said Paulina, a primary school teacher, as she hurled insults at the soldiers currently occupying the presidential palace.

But in the weeks before he left the country, Mr Zelaya’s popularity was in fact plummeting. One survey put it at about 30%.

Stacy:  See how a master of propaganda does it?  The supporters are ‘fanatical’ who ‘hurl insults’ and BUT BUT . . . the President’s popularity was as low as George Bush’s . . . and, so . . . so if we had overthrown Bush last year at this time?  Then the BBC would have been okay with that?

Updates:

Stacy:  Notice that Uribe seeking limit extension has been something that has been going on for a few months, according to the article, and yet the BBC only mentions Chavez and not Uribe.  Nor are Fox or Drudge mentioning this Uribe fact, even though Uribe met with Obama a day or two after the Honduran coup.

  • Glenn Beck is great at working in this modus operandi. A rational point is attached to a person/group (the viewer or target of the propganda is culled into a feeling of trust) but then an irrational point is attached which triggers an emotional response in the viewer.

There are two points in the same sentence. A rational and an irrational. Because of the trust that has been instantly achieved, the irrational point tends to to overpower the rational to achieve the propaganda – unless of course you are aware of the propaganda.

    Make sense?

  • the apparent cause of the coup was that Zelaya was looking for overturning term limits. (he wasn’t directly. see post on forum for more)
While in Colombia Uribe is looking to do the same

“In Colombia, a referendum to pave the way for Uribe’s reelection still faces hurdles in Congress and already shows signs of fatigue among supporters. Cambio magazine explains that the chances to approve the legislation are slim, even with Uribe spending his political capital to move it forward. But Semana magazine says, “Uribe has radicalized his position about the referendum,” and that he sees it “as a matter of pride.””

Puppets of the US may extend their terms unendingly. Hell, if you are a good loyal puppet of the US, like Mubarak, you get to serve for life and offer the following term after your death to your son–with full US and EU support. (thanks Dale)

and Glenn Beck wants US nuked for 4th July

  • @ Stacy,
The BBC is fast becoming one of the most hated organisations in the UK. Alot of people now refer to them as the Bullshit Broadcasting Corporation (used to the be the Bush Blair Corporation). This is state television ruled and dictated to by the gov. They constantly lie or omitt the truth and they are experts on how to propogandise, using certain tones of voice or strong, inappropriate adjectives – they are the masters of spin. Basically they are fraudsters and we hate them!
Ever see the film: V for Vendetta? The role of the TV station in that film is almost identical to how the BBC conducts itself.

  • BTW, if you haven’t seen V for Vendetta I highly recommend it. Not only is it a brilliant film but it depicts how life will be under Martial law and an extreme dictatorship. It is by no means an exageration of how it could be; whilst watching you realise it’s upon us. At the end the Houses of Parliament are blown up and I have to say that for me that was such a heartwarming moment. Which reminds me, did you know that the word ‘parliament’ means ‘talking lies’ in latin (parlia = talking, ment = lies) Oh, the irony! And the word ‘statement’ means ‘setting down lies’ (state = setting down, ment = lies).

PS. V for Vendetta was written by the same guys who did the Matrix. In fact, they did V for Vendetta first but realised it would probably be either banned or wouldn’t get very far due to its truthful content. So they released Matrix and when that got huge they had enough kudos to go ahead with V for Vendetta.

  • Sorry, last point on V for Vendetta. There are some big names in this movie: John Hurt, Stephen Fry, Natalie Portman Stephen Rea, etc. And yet this film got only a fleeting mention in the main stream film reviews.

  • BBC Hypeing Swine Flu again today………….& the dead police doogs
    Mike

  • @sharon – yes, we have seen V for Vendetta. Awesome film. Wonder if the BBC would give us a color in such a situation?

  • @ Mike2liverpool,
Re: your link to the Daily Mail story which states UK has worst crime record than all of Europe and even US or South Africa. I’m not buying it. To me this smacks of more propoganda to enable more draconian laws to be brought in or to justify future barbaric behaviour by the police in our police state.

  • @Sharon,…….Goes to show how powerful social engineering is, most folk wouldn’t make the correlation, even if you explained.I remember years ago going to the cinema with my wife and one of her friends to watch the matrix movie, and asked them both if they could see any parallels to society,..I got that funny look!! (It’s only a film stupid!)
It takes a certain level of awareness to be able to experiment with objectivity.

  • Sharon
I see young gang members walking around with GUNS here in Liverpool……………might i ask if your been mugged/Carjacked?
    Mike

  • @Mike2liverpool – I was held up at gunpoint once in LA. It was a .44 magnum. But, in my experience, London was far more violent than LA.

  • @Mike2liverpool – the swine flu is progressing almost in a mirror image to the 1918 flu; this started out infecting only a few people in US in spring time (unusual for a new flu to emerge in spring), killed only a handful of people, but notably the victims were mostly in their 30′s and 40s . . . then the flu kind of disappeared/stayed mild until August when the number of cases started to leap again and by September it was no longer so mild and had turned more deadly (the mortality rate was over 10%); something like 50% of the world’s population got it

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1918_flu_pandemic

Anyway, we will have to wait until August/Sept to see how it progresses, but it is clearly spreading much faster now. That’s not good in the case it does grow more deadly.

  • @Mike2liverpool,
No I haven’t been mugged or carjacked and if I had I’d be mightily pissed off and would see the world differently which is probably why we may differ on this – it’s all subjective. You could well be right if what you’re saying is you agree with the Daily Mail’s view of the UK. My experience tells me to look for the other angle. I have now been programmed to believe that almost everything we see in the media is propoganda and spin. In fact, I’ve been doing an experiment over recent years which is to take what the msm say and apply the opposite. Guess what? The opposite is nearly always the reality. I think maybe you live in a more violent/crime ridden part of the country which may well be equal to the US or South Africa in its crime rate. I don’t know which one of us is right, I just know that my scepticism tends to meet up with reality at some point.
Anyway, I don’t wish to offend you and as I say you may be right.

  • Yeh but Mike, The Daily Mail, C’mon!!

  • Actually, I’ve just remembered, I was mugged at knife point in Amsterdam a few decades ago during my wild drug filled days. I was mugged for my stash.

  • @ptah – indeed. Usually when they are writing about ‘violent crime’ they are using *code word* for you know what. I think London, in my experience, is pretty violent, but mostly it was because of very very drunk men who were perhaps repressed with stiff upper lips when not drunk . . . but, boy, do they get aggressive after the 14th pint.

  • @Stacy,…….lol,….14th ,..get away!!

  • mmm, good point Dedo – Stacy, can you drink 14 pints ?

  • @ptah @Dedo – oops, let that slip; just having flashbacks to my day’s in UK comedy . . . boy those guys can drink!

  • V for Vendetta was an adaptation of a comic written by Alan Moore, nothing to do w/The Matrix.

Seems like Government/Political Culture would have to drastically change for it to head in the Christian conservative police state depicted in V.

The attitude towards sex/reproduction/family seems already to be straight out of Brave New World. Plus the cameras from 1984.

    From BNW:

Mustapha Mond leaned forward, shook a finger at them. “Just try to realize it,” he said, and his voice sent a strange thrill quivering along their diaphragms. “Try to realize what it was like to have a viviparous mother.”

That smutty word again. But none of them dreamed, this time, of smiling.

“Try to imagine what ‘living with one’s family’ meant.”

They tried; but obviously without the smallest success.

“And do you know what a ‘home’ was?”

    They shook their heads.

  • @klaos,

V for Vendetta was an adaptation of a comic written by Alan Moore, nothing to do w/The Matrix.

Yes, it was based on that comic but my understanding is that the guys who wrote the Matrix also wrote the “screenplay” for V for Vendetta to be released as a film.
