Cheap goods, no labor and unemployed robots [UPDATED x 2]

Stacy Summary:  I remember as a child watching some old 50′s programming where scientists envisioned a future in which robots would do all sorts of work for us and that this would give us idyllic leisure time.  They neglected to envision the zero income feature of having no labor . . .

Schiff v Bernanke, wouldn’t that be great. It would be worth selling tickets to and turning Congressional hearings into a spectator sport. It is a worry though how much can be achieved as a bit of a lone voice in the Republican Party which I assume he will be a member of if he goes ahead. However, I seriously reckon he could be running for President in 2012 if all goes well and he gets a bit more of a reputation (might be deluding myself there a bit). He would rip shreds off Obama in a debate.

    some more of that quote.

“It doesn’t matter what is true, it only matters what people believe is true…. You are what the media define you to be. Greenpeace became a myth and fund generating machine.” (“Forbes”, Nov. 1991)

  7. @ Max Truth is that the masses of people are too tied up into pension funds and investment shit to care about saving the whales. Paul Watson is in the minority, actually trying to do something. A few against a tsunarmi. When Mitsubishi are buying blue fin – and let’s face it that’s a one way bet – the rest of the world think about getting some Mitsubishi stock. You said it yourself on the last TAM. It’s all about self interest and greed. Even I have invested in gold – one of the most environmentally damaging commodies we have. Twenty years ago my wife and I had a massive guilt trip about buying gold wedding rings – the only gold we ever brought until now. Today I have my pension in ********* gold mining industry. Paul Watson might as well be King Knute.

Even you Max admitted on a TAM months ago that you are only interested in these opinions to make your own decisions and investments. Well the answer you are digging for with your little Paul Watson question is “No one is going to stop wrecking the planet”. I’m sick of arguing that CO2 DOES heat up the planet. I sick of planting trees when no one else give a damn about. It really isn’t going to make any difference now.

Just look at drought around the world, starting with Califronia, and going to India, Pakistan, Kenya and on to China. Aquaifers around the whole planet that took thousands of years to build up are being drained. These links are all publisted within the last few days, most of the today 14th July.

This last one suggest even the riots in China could be in part due to water shortage.

If people “rise up” they’ll do so under the misdirection and sleight-of-hand of the powerful global companies – they’ll fight to stop taxation on fuel, or any scarce resource, for example. Who are the companies that won’t want CO2 taxes – the bleedin’ fossil fuel industry, of course.

No one is going to “rise up” and say “we simple must tax CO2, make tuna more expensive and ration water and energy” are they?

Bit of a rant, but there you go.

    @Max and all the greenies

For basics on the green agenda, here’s an excellent cached site:
    http://74.125.153.132/search?q=cache:n_TzfG_omA8J:www.green-agenda.com/+paul+watson+green+agenda&cd=2&hl=ja&ct=clnk&gl=jp

The various pages can be accessed by searching for the titles and selecting cache.

    The intro:

We should all want to be wise and careful stewards of the beautiful planet we call home. But most of us realize that humans in general are not being good stewards. We are wasteful with our natural resources and have reduced biodiversity. Therefore, when we read about groups and organizations calling for a ‘green revolution’ and a new relationship between humanity and nature it is easy to agree with their ideas.

However, certain aspects of the modern green movement that is permeating every segment of our society are not about protecting the environment. You don’t have to dig very deep to discover the true beliefs of the influential leaders who are using genuine concerns about the environment to promote an agenda of fear and control. Please carefully consider the implications of the opinions that they so openly and freely express.

Specific quote of Paul Watson (what a guy!):
“It doesn’t matter what is true,
it only matters what people believe is true.”

Clearly, all the key players are in the brotherhood. The rest are dupes.

I guess the question could also be asked of the Japanese whaling fleet – does the means justify the ends or is it just a matter of national pride they continue to sail 1/2 way around the world on the pretext of scientific research.

the short answer is more whales survive the whaling season for ‘scientific research’ because of him.does the means justify the ends. I think those whales that survive would say yes lol.
Raises a lot of interest and keeps the story on the news too.

  12. I’ve been watching WhaleWars on Animal Planet.

what does everyone think about Cap’n Paul Watson who skippers the Sea Shepherd.

There is some who think his means do not justify the ends – others think the opposite

    What do you think?

  13. I don’t understand, if working for free… how the heck do they get money for food? I guess they receive some unemployment support but when that fails?… WTF is going on

@phil Yes, imho I think the biggest problem is the inertial of business models, which is logical because businesses will stop existing once their business model becomes undermined. As she sais however there is a reality there that will mean some models will become obsolete. To me the quicker the better. This goes for environmental concerns as well.

  16. Hey Max, when you talk to Karl Denninger, ask him about the inflation/deflation debate. I agree with his math, but I think he is leaving out the PREDICTION that the Federal Government will REACT to the deflation in numerous and detrimental ways, making one mistake after another and CREATE the hyper-inflation down the line.

In other words, he is underestimating the stupidity of the Federal Government in the US while people like Faber and Schiff are factoring that in…

I know Schiff says we WANT deflation, but is afraid of what the knuckleheads are gonna do…

Schwarznegger to Obama: Watch and Learn
    http://neweconomicperspectives.blogspot.com/2009/07/schwarznegger-to-obama-watch-and-learn_12.html

quote from the start of the blog:

“According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Republicans and Democrats alike embraced legislation last Friday that would make California IOUs legal tender for all taxes, fees and other payments owed to the state.

Effectively, California is using its IOUs to create a currency. If this bill passes it would allow California to deficit spend just like the Federal Government and with the IOU’s acceptable as payment of state taxes, it instantly imparts value to them (see here and here). In effect, what you have is a state of the union creating a sovereign currency right under the noses of Treasury, Fed.”

Jessie link : “stocks rally with banks on the run”

Whitney said effectively that the bank’s “profit model” will no longer work. Well, if Glass-Steagall was still in effect, we wouldn’t have had the big (investment) banks corrupting the stock market. i.e. the banks would be stuck with earning “conservative” profits just as banks “should” be doing.
After all, it is essentially OUR MONEY that they’ve been ENTRUSTED with ; so why should they be allowed to speculate – against us – with it !
Thanks to a corrupt Congress that allowed the banks to capture the government, the banks have changed the rules for their own benefit.
When they finally wake up and realise that their parasitic greed has destroyed the host ( main street ), they’ll go to the wall as well.

Merideth Whitney: The Internet NEVER SLEEPS
    http://market-ticker.denninger.net/archives/1210-Merideth-Whitney-The-Internet-NEVER-SLEEPS.html

    ———————————-
    @3:18
Maria: Are you going to short the market (banks).
    Meredith :
I have to admit, I don’t know the rules.
(I don’t know) what the Govt. is going to do.
When the market turns – I think the market is grossly overvalued – I think investors are going to be furious.

Says Long money (investors) gets beheaded . You’re going to see the same thing happen – investors will get abused and lied to again.

Maria: If you “are” going to change the rules in the middle of the game …
    … etc.

So , she’s saying out in the open that the rally is a fraud ( of course ), investors get continually lied to ( by the banks BullSheets ), and that the Govt. continually changes the rules as it sees fit.

CIT Hires Bankruptcy Specialist Skadden as Bond Access Wanes

By Pierre Paulden and Caroline Salas

July 11 (Bloomberg) — CIT Group Inc., the century-old lender to 950,000 businesses that has been unable to persuade the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. to guarantee its debt sales, hired bankruptcy specialist Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP as an adviser amid a plunge in its stock and bonds.

The FDIC is concerned that standing behind CIT debt would put taxpayer money at risk because the company’s credit quality is worsening, said people familiar with the regulator’s thinking who declined to be identified because the talks are private. The FDIC has backed $274 billion in bond sales under its Temporary Liquidity Guarantee Program since Nov. 25.
    ..

    WHO is quite an operation.

WHO created an AIDS epidemic in Africa by simply ordering doctors at a hospital to report deaths from traditional illnesses as being caused by AIDS. Voila! Overnight, they got some 400 AIDS deaths, and off they went. Even if test kits were used, they have disclaimers stating that there is no existing test for the presence of HIV. That’s because no such critter has ever been proven to exist. The tests just identify junk in the blood that can occur from 70 or 80 conditions like having a cold, a little extra sun exposure, pregnancy, etc. The kits show four out of nine healthy dogs as “positive”. Go figure!

Out of fear for competition western women however adopted the practice of burning and grinding them, serving them to man thus disguised, making themselves recipient of the addictive attraction of its alluring aroma..I’m gona make me some!

  65. Key point. Volunterring is ok. But employers can’t force people to work for free (does the word slavery sound familiar)?

Aside from the global depression, another angle is “paying your dues.” In many jobs I’ve done long hours, lots of commuting. And if you pressed management for more flexibility, what was the response? They pressured you every way they could. We know you don’t have another job, you gotta pay your dues, yadda yadda yadda. In some overseas jobs, it was even worse. Look “foreign person”, if you don’t like it, leave. There are at least 20 other people that would LOVE to take your job.

If your employer pushes you to work for free, how many people have the money to fight this? Aside from finding the new job (and not being homeless), who’s got time to get an attorney if necessary? With no gurantee of the outcome (despite how awesome the attorney says they are).

At least in France you treat workers decently. Unless you f**k with them once too often. Then they might decide to blow up the building (with you in it).

  66. @anything but green … Well said .

When the real deal virus has been released they can say; “We told you that this virus could become as severe as the 1918 virus, you see now!” It’s all about mind control and as such they create their alibi in advance cause they kmow where they up to.

Doesn’t anyone find the “annual 36,000 flu deaths” mantra a little absurd? Every year, the same neat number, repeated seriously by highly paid “experts”.

    Flu Statistics Greatly Overstated?
An Intuitive Parenting Update on the Flu

Evidence has turned up that the flu is not nearly the great threat which the media, certainly the vaccine manufacturers, and even medical organizations, are making the flu out to be. Flu statistics being bandied about include that as many as 36,000 people die every year from the flu.

However, the Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) own data shows that in the most recent year for which we have numbers, 2001, there were fewer than 1000 deaths attributable directly to the flu.

So why the hysteria over the shortage of flu vaccine? Why the mad rush to get everyone immunized? Why put conscientious parents through the agony of decision regarding a vaccine for a virus which in reality has a very low mortality rate?

The answers seem obvious to us, but we will leave it to the reader to reach their own conclusion.

In the meantime, download the CDC’s report here, and search the document for code “J10″, which is the CDC’s code for the flu (influenza). Note that every instance of “J10″ has it coupled with “J18″, which is the code for pneumonia. When you see the big “flu” death numbers being blasted across the press, keep in mind that the statistics for flu and pneumonia are lumped together. This is where the huge numbers come from. Pneumonia. Not the flu itself.

I’ve been talking to a dude in the virus business and he said that Tamiflu (Oseltamivir) has many nasty side effects and it’s worse than just have the virus and let your body batlle it of by itself.

Just watch the condition of your own body more closely. Don’t completely wear yourself out (talking to myself here also) cause that makes your body more susceptible to any disease. Watch your food more closely and eat diverse(meat, groceries, potatoes) so you get a bit of everything in your food, that’s all.

does anyone else have a problem with the theory of gravity here? I do.
This constant acceleration bit where things fall at a constant rate of acceleration. i.e. drop two objects and they fall to the ground at the same rate. The two objects are surely relative to the Earth which has a mass of 5.9736×1024 KG so to what decimal point are they claiming that supposed ‘law’ and ‘force’ of gravity (the interconnectedness of everything). After that, the eventual logical conclusion is the Big Bang is a pile of crap. It must be late, I’m going to bed, g’nite from me.

If you look at research on vaccines, especially research done by scientists, doctors, professors, etc. (not under the influence of gov. eg. threats of funding being withdrawn if they don’t go along with the agenda) you will quickly come to the conclusion that NO vaccine is safe and ALL should be avoided like the plague (pardon the pun).

In Australia, we’ve had a shocking flu season, Ive had 2 different flus in about 2 months and none of them swine flu. It will be interesting to see if swine flu is more virulent when it resurfaces in the northern hemisphere flu season.
The general process for virus epidemics seems to be
it kills healthy people at first because the immune system is over stimulated to the unknown virus and that basically kills them and the virus is short lived in people. At this stage unhealthy and old people’s immune systems are too weak to respond as aggressively and becuase the virus dies quickly they survive. So the really virulent virus will die out with the dead people while the weaker virus wont kill people and have a better chance to spread. So the virus in weak form goes into a bit of hibernation as a ‘normal flu’, but the key thing is it is still unknown to many immune systems with no history of it. So then it can mutate with other flus and resurface like Spanish flu and cause an epidemic. When it resurfaces it lasts longer in the body, will more likely kill the old and unhealthy because it lasts longer and also it has parts of normal flu which immune systems will respond to but have no defence against bits of the flu that are previously unknown to the immune system.
I think that’s how a virus epidemic advances in general?
But you never know how these things go. It’s a really touchy subject whether to have a vaccine or not imo especially if they’re rushing them through regulations etc. Definitely up to the individual, should not be something enforced by govt.

  89. Wow! People are REALLY waking up. Check out the comments from the Times re: Swine flu vaccination. They’re getting it, they’re getting it! Yippeee!!! I’m sorry it’s a long post, I’m just so excited that people are asserting themselves at long last.

    Quote from article:

Given the margin of error associated with the old-style thermometers which were, until only recently, used to record temperatures, it should be stated thus: over the past 100 years, temperature has risen by 0.7C – plus or minus 1.3 degrees!

  100. @ Danny,
Thanks for those links. Regarding their content:-

The Climate Group is another front for selling the fakery of human-caused climate change against all the evidence and the protests of tens of thousands of scientists all over the world. Global cooling has erased in 24 months nearly 30 years of rising temperatures that were nothing more than a perfectly normal cycle of sun spot activity.

Ian Plimer, Emeritus Professor of Earth Sciences at the University of Melbourne and Professor of Mining Geology at the University of Adelaide, has demolished the climate change ‘science’ in his book, Heaven And Earth: Global Warming, The Missing Science. He confirms that the ‘scientific concensus’ touted by the infamous Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is a nonsense.

The ’2,500 scientists’ behind the report that made human-caused climate change ‘official’ included many non-scientists and some were counted twice. It turns out that the conclusion that human activity was affecting the climate was only made possible by removing an original statement that said there was no evidence that greenhouse gases were affecting the climate and the best answer was ‘we don’t know’.

I’ll have to fave that and have a good study of it. First impression is ‘oh shit’, lol. I follow medical research a little bit and there are many new drugs and treatments that will be out in the following years and I fully expect them to be part of any new bubble and that article gives that thought some legitimacy that perhaps the whole biotech sector will be part of the bubble. .I like the way they call it ‘asset backed borrowing’, like a drug/treatment that may or may not be successful is an asset – a bit like a mortgae backed security where the mortgagee may or may not meet their payments. Research is always a liability in my book and the investor takes a calculated risk. No doubt big pharma and FDA will reduce trial standards so milestones are met quicker or whatever, looks like regs of medical trials may be the next target of the banksters. All to look forward to in the upcoming years.
No doubt this market will expand and be fully encouraged by US govt with their new medical care overhaul.

We’re flying toward a concrete wall at maximum speed and most are working in one way or another on getting us there faster, never mind the fact that we haven’t yet determined how we’ll avoid the wall. It’s why I chose not to pursue a career in science at 15, and why I’ve been a baffled observer of life rather than an active participant for nearly my entire life. It’s nearly always been madness to me. I can’t relate to much of any of it. People somehow think they can work to get us there faster but by earning a better seat on the craft, they’ll be better off over all when we crash. The means and the ends are one and the same, but that won’t stop people from financing their enemies. If the US dollar lost 10% of it’s value tomorrow, people would empty the Walmarts first instead of the Farmer’s Markets.

Anything that doesn’t seem to make sense, makes sense from the perspective of a psychotic billionaire. Any persistent societal ill. This is a great tool I discovered in my early adulthood that allows one to avoid getting too frustrated by the madness around them, or wasting much time contemplating better systems or solutions.

The billionaire’s main priority is control. Like security of principle to an investor. The deep productivity inefficiencies in their systems (most notably vast opportunity costs and externalities) can readily be understood as necessary sacrifices in the certain maintenance of control. We’re pieces in their train sets.

The drug war, persistent bullying in schools, children obeying bells, rigid schedules and curriculum, the acceptance of the term Witch in popular culture, inflation, property taxes that don’t correlate with services received, barriers to entry both geographically and in labor, the predominance of cars and their massive subsidies. It all serves the interests of billionaires to control everything. I think it’s a mistake to think in terms of money. It is just one, albeit key, means. Their end is total control. Their wealth can be better measured by how many people they control and how fully. How much time they take from people and how secure their grip is.

And yet poor people keep using and defending the use of their money to finance their enemies and their time to serve them, thus contributing to slamming us all into that wall even faster.

IMO you need to run a mile from those flu shots, they will not be good for you even if they were manufactured for altruistic reasons. This is because they won’t have had time to come up with anything half decent. Not to mention that in the US in 1976, when there was a flu outbreak, the vaccine killed 50 times more people than the actual flu. Add to that the law suit filed by the Austrian science journalist against WHO, UN and various people in the White House (including the president) in which she apparantly provides evidence that swine flu was manufactured and that the vaccines will kill many, many people. Sorry to keep mentioning this but I feel it is very important that people know this in order to protect themselves. Also, as Youri mentions in his post, there is apparantly a plan to kill upto 90% of the worlds population – what better way to start that process off?
Sorry I’m not cheering anyone up this morning.

  119. Youri Carma

Must be great fun being a satanistic killer and it’s relatively easy to kill en mass. Slip a cancer virus into the vaccins which will kill people not immediately but wil trigger after a vew years so you can needly die when you just past 50 years ol before yo 60 you surely be death.

  120. There is this ridiculous notion, that the USA and many other nations can become an emporium of goods where the absorption of such goods is forever exceeded by the wealth generated by the nation itself and thus allow the consigners to reap a profit regardless of circumstance and thereby guaranteeing perpetual extension of credit. Of course, this is an original fallacy. The abuse perpetrated by such a notion is such that it takes generations to take effect and are so slow in occurrence that from day to day, week to week, nothing is noticed. However, the evidence of this is in history. For example, Australia alone, since its inception, has had so many crises that it seems impervious… like a continual crisis. Professor Wood, writing for the Rockefeller Institute in 1930, had described Australia’s experience until then and how its capital importation and subsequent credit expansion, land speculation, complacency by government (due to tax revenue) and direct action of government of how it committed monies and the ultimate unravelling of the soup by contraction in credit. And it has been my experience in life and in my studies that the situations described by Wood are alive and kicking.

  122. Just to add further detail on the death squads in North Brazil:-
According to the news item the squad includes police officers and there is often torture involved including genital mutilation which is meant ot be a sign of some sort. It is also the case that shopkeepers can and have hired the death squads to kill petty shoplifters. I’m beginning to not recognise this world we’re living in, everything is changing so quickly.

Never bought anything at IKEA. I think they are to expensive for the quality they deliver. For the same money you can buy better quality stuff elsewhere. Even the food in IKEA is to expensive for what you get.

In the near future people are no longer neede for production they become insignificant. That’s why 90% of us have to die before 2050.

  126. Re: Cheap goods that can easily be replaced. I believe it is well known that most goods nowadays are made with ‘built-in’ obsolesence so that they are almost guaranteed to break down at some early point making it necessary to buy a replacement which is more profitable for the companies. Obviously this means using up far more resources and I guess more labour. Even so it would be better to produce quality products that last and look at other way of using labour (that wouldn’t be beyond the wit of man would it?).

On another topic: I was just watching Naomi Klein being interviewed on RT (Russian TV). It seems from what she is saying that American is the new Germany which begs the question: who will be the new Poland/France/Britain?

Also on RT, the news reported that in North Brazil ‘death squads’ have been hired to kill the poor and the needy….wtf?
It also advertised a program coming up about ‘modern slavery’ and showed an images of people being shackled…..nice.

So, another happy day in paradise.

  130. When I was a teenager, I thought it would be a good idea if robots could fight wars so that people didn’t have to die. I was envisioning robot armies then, not drones killing real people.
