Stacy Summary: There are three more vids out there, but it was too hard to find them on youtube! We are recording two episodes of On the Edge today because then we are really, really going on vacation!
If you can’t control someones mind …I think you are wasting your time trying to control someones emotions….unless you don’t care about attracting nutters.
freaking out and screaming may actually be the more mentally healthy self-respecting way of reacting to the insanity of what’s going on, rather than what most people are doing. seriously. what would most people consider a normal reaction to getting raped or robbed? what is a “healthy” reaction to genocide?
Good work Max.. yet I have to say that Alex Jones is a complete fuknut! If you youtube the full interview he completely shouts down a caller with an excellent point on why Max bloggs for the pro obama huffington post.. it was akin to a Bill O’Reilly ‘Shut Up’!
@Rasta:
duh, I agree…I guess I flubbed my post! Not the first time. I meant to use Gross against himself by his damning first paragraph in the essay and link that to filthy rich: guess I failed at being clever. I agree completely: Gross is gross corporatism!
I agree with you about Alex. The way he was drawing on the poster gives me the creeps. It is as if he is egging people on to fight against their fellow Americans: creating divisions through the caricature of Obama. The contest was totally detestable. I wonder how many people blindly follow that man. You were right: Max is way above that lunacy.
I think we should all walk around in each others shoes to see a different perspective right about now and work together. I have been guilty of being narrow in my outlook: Mep pointed that out.
There are a lot of supercharged Americans out there right about now.
conspiracy theories in and of themselves are not necessarily bad or rooted in fantasy. they, like Max has said, have been given a bad reputation but at the same time they have to be rooted in some kind of fundamental fact.
you can hear Jones goading Max into his stupidity and Max refuses to chime in. that’s the difference between Max and Alex. Alex’s conspiracy theories are based on nothing….Max’s are based on experience and knowledge.
Don’t engage in all the stupidity out there…..that’s precisely the Orwellian dystopia they want to create…..allowing their doublethink will drive anyone INSANE.
if you want good definitions or characteristics of fascism checkout Dr. Lawrence Britt, Umberto Eco, Rich Gibson, Laura Dawn Lewis.
Lately, in the press, there has been a renewal of the phrase “community of reality”. It seems if one does not agree with wholescale looting of the American people by Congress via deficit spending then one is not a member of said “community of reality”. The old game of marginalization and scapegoating is still a relative winner.
Collectivism is not utopia. Taxing the public to death to redistribute the money constitutes theft. I do not claim that you do not care about other people because of your political views: how do you base such a claim against me?
@ Frances – what an awful thing: Obama would like people to give a fuck about one another. He must be stopped at all costs. Because if people care about one another, they tend to stick up for one another and fight back against those who only get ahead in life by pushing everyone else down.
I find it very ironic that the same people who joke about American passivity in the face of grand-scale theft fail to understand that so long as Americans continue with the “I’ve got mine, fuck you” mentality, we will remain atomized, divided, and defeated.
“Out of that perceptiveness comes a distinct way of seeing the world. Obama emphasizes the connections between people, the networks and the webs of influence. These sorts of links are invisible to some of his rivals, but Obama is a communitarian…” http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/08/opinion/08brooks.html
@Rasta:
You are right to surmise that Obama is neither fascist nor socialist. Obama is a communitarian.
@Rasta:
Wild-worded is quite the description for your adamant rant. I was not pin-pointing anything: I was using Mr. Gross’s essay introduction to illustrate what the meaning of filthy rich really is: a capital heist enabled by those in power. Gross has proselytized the advantages of getting cozy with the government: http://www.pimco.com/LeftNav/Featured+Market+Commentary/IO/2009/IO+Gross+Jan+09+Andrew+Mellon+vs+Bailout+Nation.htm
Mr. Keiser sounded off on the Buffet advantage guaranteed by the government, so I thought the inclusion was relevant.
As far as “you really don’t have a clue”, I would thoroughly agree with you. Please, do: clue me in.
What was the question?
If you are crowing for Mr. Gross, I would remind you of his advantage with the Treasury dept.: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/21/business/21gross.html
@Rasta – lol, I think of most Americans as wild eyed. (Of course, I’m American myself)! I used to reject all ‘conspiracy theories’ but I’ve come to learn that the notion of ‘conspiracy theory’ can be used to cover real conspiracies. After it emerged (and was then hardly covered by MSM) that Dick Cheney had an assassination squad, was wiretapping Americans AND, most recent to emerge, that he was going to order troops to arrest citizens on US soil (all ideas that I dismissed previously) . . . well, I’m even giving an open mind these days to the LochNess Monster and the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
Re: fascism; well most words no longer have ANY meaning; definitions are so muddled in the hyperkinetic world of modern mudslinging; but most US govts, and most Western govts seem to have many elements of the definition: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fascism
The Honduras coup, for example, which seems to have US involvement, would seem to be another in a long line of military actions on behalf of Chiquita. Why oh why anyone still consumes any product by Chiquita is beyond me. All those Americans against so-called ‘illegal immigration’ should first stop the 60 pc of their tax dollars going to miltary action against people who just want to have their countries to themselves; and if Hondurans want to raise their minimum wage, then Chiquita should leave them alone and move somewhere else if they don’t want to pay it
are you kidding me? if there’s a bigger collusionist in the treasury market along with Bush, the FED and corporations like Goldman Sachs et al i haven’t seen it.
to quote Bill Gross’s fingerpointing against any other corporatist is the very engagement of LUNACY and Orwellian doublethink.
WOW…..i didn’t realize just how unhinged Alex Jones had become
what a maniacal deviant…..it’s amazing that Max would even allow himself to be on this program….but i guess he wants/needs exposure.
Obama is no angel….but he sure as hell isn’t a socialist….and he sure as hell isn’t a fascist. (though Geitner and Summers are) He’s just a puppet and figurehead to placate the masses for what Max describes……neo-Feudalism.
Alex Jones is your typical libertarian hysterical conspiracy fool……no answers…..just wild eyed hand waving, fingerpointing and shoot from the hip unbased accusations.
The honest customers will pay for the tab with higher interest rates.
If there isn’t a debt jubilie, the system will crash, crushing honest and dishonest citizens together. (The derivates outstanding are more than the world’s GDP!)
We are all looking at survival only and soon, unless something is done about the debts. Our banking system is insolvent. CIT is going down and taking small business with it. Small business employs most Americans, so the tax base will shrink more. The bankruptcies will be many municipalities all the way to Uncle Sam. (Yes sovereign default is imminent, UK and US)…
I’m not optimistic that a jubilie will be proposed and have not seen any plans. The ptb would rather we were not sovereign here in US, just a trade region linked to other regions. State governments would be unfunded: ten regions would operate instead. The UN would be the new world governing body. Fema is already calling our country a commonwealth.
All the chaos has been like a net thrown over us by debt. Forgive the debt, cut big holes in the net. Fair has been destroyed by Team Obama.
@fsnoot re. a debt jubilee – I don’t but would be interested to understand on what level you mean and how you think it’d work.
Cancelling poor countries’ government debt sounds good.
Suspending or cancelling some small/med business debt also sounds good.
But forgiving my neighbour’s credit card and mortgage debt doesn’t – it would again reward speculators, not savers. What about those of us who rent and don’t spend beyond their means?
@TS Gordon,
I like your thinking re: buying farmland and have looked into this myself (still looking with house up for sale). I’m also considering an eco village/self sufficient type environment. Anyway, the main reason I’ve responded to your suggestion to buy farmland is that my main concern is that from what I can gather you never actually own the land you buy and I haven’t yet managed to find a country where that isn’t the case. This is a problem as when the shtf the govs could just come and take your land away or else impose heavy taxes. If you know any different I’d appreciate any info you may have.
Wow, Dollar is up, Gold is down, and I am seeing a buying window. Also, I am long on the Euro, which will hit $1.90 before the game is called on account of rain.
As we approach the dolldrums of Summer, in many places the crops are wilting throughout the fields. Food and Water will soon become more serious impediments to growth than the elites recognize, and they can’t run forever.
As we list out those vital ‘survival supplies’ that we’ll need to stockpile by mid-September, surely it won’t hurt to have a stash of gold and silver coins. (Keeping in mind you need at least 40 fenced acres to adequately protect it.) But, the most vital investment advice I would give to mom & pop, (who WILL otherwise be sucker-punched, sure as Obama,) is to buy farmland.
Speaking of hayseed Southerners, Alex is, if nothing else, at least genuine enough not to get caught up in developing false pretenses and buying in to the east-coast yuppie game. He, didn’t have to travel far before realizing that was a zero-sum game. Once he became a proponent of Community TV prduction in Austin, he never slowed down enough to put on any airs. The opposite could be said for my family, who once made $M on soy and cotton, but currently caters to the ultra-rich by holding court at parties in ‘the city,’ and out on ‘the island.’
Man am I glad I read John Taylor Gatto’s books, shortly after hjelping to establish the Hampton Day School, in the 70′s.
ARRRGH: It means you can read of a teleprompter WELL. Alex is so Texax-Baptist bred and raised. His caustic, arrogant hick style puts me off completely.
Max’s dictum that the debts should have been paid off so the consumers can add more GDP on credit cards at the mall is odd…was it humor? That would have been just as catastrophic: deficit would still be a problem and the bankers will suffer more if we all default on our credit cards. The China connection only allowed the furtherance of the politicos insanity.
Yves Smith and Stacy both spoke of a debt jubilee: that sounds like reason to me.
@MiniUS
Jim Rogers is a pretender, what about his relationship with George Soros?
Mr. Rogers is to me a little sketchy, needs to be looked at a little closer.
I notice that these days Jim Rogers doesn’t like being reminded of his link with Warren Buffett.
Saw him once being asked about that and he just sneered a bit and groaned.
Love to know what went down between those two guys.
@Max & Stacy.
Re: the Inside Job.

I get what Max says about the stock market, that makes good sense. Bankers ‘cleaning’ their money.
Banks get money from Govt, use it to make huge profits, then pay back govt money.
My question is…..
Does simply flushing their extra printed money down the loo stop inflation occurring once the banks are satisfied they made their money back????
Also wanted to add, in regard to the “Face off” with our less than sanguine German college, his doubts about Max’s veracity on “manipulation” in markets and regulators, he should perhaps bother to read -
the collapse of the banking system was a controlled demolition
the rise in the stock market is the result of banks speculatin with gov’t money as a way to ‘clean’ or launder that money before returning some of it to the Feds and claiming that they ‘gave the US tax payer a good deal.

Watching this interview with Alex Jones and Max really is disgusting.
Alex Jones sounds like Rush Limbaugh for pete’s sake. The only sane part is Max.
I hated watching Alex Jones drawing on the photo of Obama, while Max is talking…..distracting from what Max is saying. Very childish of Jones.
Listening to the right wing nut jobs distrupting town hall meetings with Nazi signs sounds like Alex Jones folks to me.

how did you arrive at the conclusion that would i be FOR Gross? i just finished debunking him for you. wow. are you able to comprehend what you read?
Quoting or using Gross as an example against corporatism is completely irresponsible ….and completely engaged in doublethink.

Warren Buffet is “filthy rich” just as Bill Gross described in this essay:
