    I wonder if the problem is the “poor” people won’t pat Gordon Brown & co, thus he MUST get everyone else to bale out the “Poor” so Gordon & co don’t face the default.

    Here is a comment on part one of the above links; and imo it shows the huge problem with soundbite opinion:

    “Nationalize the banking system?! I would rather die in the revolution before that happens. What an idiot. Oh yea, and let’s nationalize health care, and the auto industry and the airline industry and the steel industry too while we are at it. I mean government has such an amazing track record. Why don’t you brain dead bone-headed morons wake up?”

    The fact is, the bad debts have been nationalized, but all of the good loans have remained with the banks and thus the record bonuses this year. So this person doesn’t make any sense about dying in the revolution to prevent nationalizing, as it’s already happened, dude. Keen is not advocating nationalization of the sort this guy seems to think; and I am sure he would think something similar to what happened in Sweden in the 90′s when their banking system melted down is more what should have happened; where the taxpayer actually extracted equity for their backstop of the system, in the US there has been nothing asked of the banking system in exchange for the trillions and thats’ because too many people shout things like, “I’d rather die then call it what it is”

    I’m all for the rich countries helping out the poorer ones with medicine as long as one condition is met first: stripping away the patents of these drugs. If Tamiflu and one other drug are the only things that can help combat a global swine flu outbreak, it’s just effing wrong that countries have to completely bankrupt themselves, loot billions out of the public coffers, or leave their citizens to die because of the sticker price of the drugs.

    On another note: Don’t know about anyone else, but I’m still curious as to whether that Smithfield subsidiary in Mexico was the source of this virus. This is an awfully expensive outbreak. Someone ought to be paying for it and compensating the families of those who have died as a result.

    I wish it was anarchy but regrettably they mistake the word as equal to chaos and lawlessness… as usual. Humans have a long way to go on the evolution ladder before anarchy may be achieved. Hopefully one day but for now we are subject to the laws of evolution in full effect. Will the predatory man or the cooperative man be the future of mankind? So far the predators seem to get away with their behavior regardless what sick plan they come up with to screw their own kind and the rest of the world.

    On both of my PCs ( Win2K + WinXP), the video is a bit “lumpy” until the clip from Dan starts, then it becomes smooth again – as it should be !
    Does anyone have this effect ?

    @Obladi oblada – well, it depends on how deadly it becomes in our northern winter ala how the 1918 flu went; earlier this week the news was that a 26 year old here in France had died from the swine flu and that he had previously been in perfect health, so officials at least are worried; but nobody out on the street seems worried and it hasn’t stopped them from spewing sneeze in public spaces . . I, for one, have noticed four sneezes in the past hour at the cafe where I am sitting, not one tissue, all spewed into the air around, at least 50 others (including myself) infected if any of the 4 sneezers had the flu; will let you know how it goes ;)

    @ frances – I do understand the urge to call swine flu something else. People did freak out and one country (forgetting which one right now) even slaughtered all of their pigs. But it really bothers me that nobody seems concerned in pinpointing where the virus came from. In the beginning, Mexicans being interviewed on TV were claiming that they had made many, many complaints about the smell coming from the local factory farm as well as the swarms of flies that came from the farm. We all know that those places are breeding grounds for all kinds of bacteria, viruses, and nastiness.

    @ frances – LOL! I haven’t had any ham since the outbreak, b/c 70% of our pork products in the US comes from factory farms and I don’t want to support them in any way. I do still eat pork, but it’s organic pork that I get from a local farmer who mostly sells grass-fed beef. (Since we started eating this farmer’s meat, my fiance has lost 20lbs. and I’ve lost 10!)

    So I’m with you: SWINE FLU! SWINE FLU! SWINE FLU!!

    @ all – random question: anybody from the US considering going to protest the G-20??

    @ frances – It all goes back to Seattle 1999 and the WTO protests. They were taken by surprise then and do not want it to happen again. In 1999, it was the protesters that shut the place down.

    Wanted to share this with anybody who is thinking of heading to Pittsburgh:

    “The strategy in Pittsburgh, a former steel town that has transformed its economy into a post-industrial model, is to plan for a worst-case scenario. The city has fewer than 900 police officers but is seeking an additional 3,100 temporary officers, including 1,000 state-police officers. The state’s National Guard, which has more than 2,000 troops in a nearby brigade, is on alert for possible activation.

    “In any type of event like this, it’s something you consider,” said Michael Huss, the city’s public-safety director.

    The cost of all this extra security could hit $19.5 million, according to the mayor’s office. The federal government is providing $10 million, Pennsylvania $4.3 million. Expected costs include $2 million for personal-liability insurance for all police officers and $1.2 million for food and water. Visiting police are expected to be housed in tent cities.”

    It’s like Max said, with fear you can sell anything. The guy from the bot project tells the same. Swine Flu killing less than the sesonal flu yet Reuters writes several articles about it every day. That doesn’t make any sense, it’s bogus.

    They could report all the traffic dead every day and some wouldn’t step in their cars anymore. Same thing.

    The Affidavits have no standing in Common Law since they include opinion, conjecture, and lawful conclusions. They could not have been written by a lawyer and are probably fake.

    Whilst reading recent bits and pieces on Obama’s healthcare plans, I wondered how long it might be before European govs, such as the UK, would be pushing the “new American model” of “universal” healthcare (as opposed to a genuine welfare system) for its citizens. Although the link below concerns expat insurance and Dubai (note, Dubai was recently discussed by M&S (that’s not Marks and Sparks, but Max and Stacey, of course!) – the headline is certainly attention grabbing, n’est ce pas?
