Stacy Summary: I thought zero taxes was supposed to create a thriving economy? And it seems all the Caymans’ largesse and love shown to the money launderers, hedge funds and oligarchs went unrequited as I don’t see any of them offering to guarantee the piddly £38 million loan.

At what point does it all get to Critical mass?
Mike
I find it a disgrace that a greedy tax haven that has looted staggering sums of money from countries around the world comes to a already broke UK for a hand from the UK taxpayer!! The world has gone mad. The world is more corrupt now than in Roman times!! I hope the system collapses. I do not think it will this year but it will in the next couple of years as the oligarchs who set up the bank of england and control 70% of world central bank policy are a little unervred at the moment. ITS A DISGRACE!

Unbelievable! The UK is going to bail out the Caymans, and there’s a dude complaining about the fairness of depicting tax havens with palm tree imagery?!
Well it sure legitimises the whole ‘pirate’ thing. These Caymen Island parasites are the original Pirates of the Caribbean.
If the government bails them out then maybe now they will stop whinging about spotty kids downloading plagerised tunes as if it were some kind of threat to western civilisation.
All the UK politicians are talking about making cuts… cuts in services etc etc and yet by all accounts this does not apply to the necrophobes in the Caymen.
A personal story: I went to buy some furniture, some really nice furniture… hell I thought, money is rotting in a prison of a bank – maybe some high quality wood might help make life more pleasurable. So I select something and try to buy it. My first mistake was to try and negotiate a price. “But I am paying cash I said, why not offer me delivery for free etc”, no deal. The guy only wanted to sell me the goods on a credit deal. He was not interested in my cash. Couldn’t give a shit. No commission presumably. With negative interest rates on the horizon and shops reluctant to accept cash – things are going to boil up quickly. What was it the Keiser Chiefs said ?
@Ptah – yesterday, I was on the Metro and I saw two teenage girls with fake Fendi bags; I wondered how long it would be before the police were arresting the likes of them for carrying illegal copies of copyrighted / trademarked handbags
@ Supergeek – Are you ok?! You sound freaked.
@ Stacy – LOL @ the copyrighted bags. Remember what you said before about all kinds of new taxes and fees coming about? Well, my university is transitioning this year to becoming completely smoke-free. Anyone caught smoking after the new policy goes in place will have to pay a fine.
Lisbon propaganda is on overload here. Irish people go to the polls, again, tomorrow. Would appreciate a comment from Max or Stacy.
The Royal & Imperial system was based on colonies being profitable — and the current state of things in the Caymans is nowhere near this principal.
No good can come from this.
A tax haven with a civil service that is easily corruptible is not a tax haven at all.
Sadly, it is not possible for Canada to absorb this Caribbean state at this time due to the finance crisis. At least being part of Canada their would be some guarantee of the civil service being paid on regular intervals.
@Mep,…….you should try and make up some sort of concoction of weed to smoke, that gives off nutritious smoke,..you’ll know then,..if the fine is subreptitious.
@Stacy,…..how did you know they were fake?
@Dedo …”…..how did you know they were fake?”
Because young girls can’t possibly afford such Brand names ?
BTW ….
I NEVER buy brand names … unless it’s e.g. an old Mercedes !
…on Oil Prices
When you consider the IBs and HFs are spendig 84 Mio$ per month on offshore oil storage – to keep supply down – you have to wonder when this will break down .
We’re still at 70$ per barrel.
Why isn’t Government intervening and forcing them to sell it for say 30$ … to help the economies WW ?
Silly question of course !
@Phil,….you should have been a detective,..: )
Quote from: Bankrupt Caymans get £38 million bailout
“…, but there are still other places for companies to go,” he said.”
Which are the other places is my question and who are on this “White list”?
Singapore within touching distance of OECD white list http://tinyurl.com/y9s86pj
There is a “Grey list” too. In this article you can find these list (page under): Isle of Man on OECD ‘White List’ http://tinyurl.com/y8z3kpl
@Phil – speaking of Mercedes, the guy fronting for the American Police Force, who delivered a few Mercedes to Montana, is apparently a criminal:
http://www.missoulian.com/news/state-and-regional/article_8c78ef7a-ae3e-11de-a00d-001cc4c002e0.html
BTW,…….some outlets are discounting their supplies of fendi bags with as much as 70%,…I also know some folk who pass on their “stuff” to charity shops,.etc
@Dedo …”….you should have been a detective,..: ) ”
Change of tense … ” should become ”
Just wondering if they’re waiting for the US$ to devalue so they can sell their oil for 150$ … silly game of course !
In a way , I suppose you could call it “black gold”.
Better to be holding black or yellow gold than US$ s !
@Dedo …”BTW,…….some outlets are discounting their supplies of fendi bags”
BTW … on German Customs and Brand names:
The German “Zoll” visit the Hanover Fair ( Hannovermesse ) each year to fine Chinese companies selling “supposedly” fake brand names.
And it’s not just the blatant copying of the name .. even if their products are just “look a likes” , the goods are confiscated and fined 10,000 Euros or more.
And not just bags, but even simple Biros etc. etc.
Sheesh .!
@alister …” Dmitry Orlov ”
thanks .. good lecture , pretty funny as well !
@Dedo – the bad stitching hanging off the bag and over all cheap look of it; re: the French being particular about it, LVMH is the largest luxury brand maker in the world and the knock of their goods is well known problem for them; despite this, I recall a few years ago it was in vogue for the likes of Victoria Beckham to flaunt their fake Louis Vuitton bags . . . anyway, I was making a point about there does exist in reality the well known fact that people do trade in fake luxury goods, when you pay £20 for a Louis Vuitton bag or $40 for a Rolex in Times Square, chances are they are fake . . . I do agree that the young women in question could be innocent of the charges, but if you concede that fake goods are indeed sold somewhere sometime . . . then you will see that the point I was trying to make is that the natural progression from disconnecting and arresting ‘illegal downloaders’ is that police should start arresting those carrying around or wearing fake goods
@Phil,……no doubt if one traced the source of production of most brand names,…..they’d come from the same sweat shops,…maybe
@Stacy,….I’m aware of the point you were trying to make,..I just wanted an insight into the powers of your deduction skills,…Phil gave me some clues as to his reasonings…just a curious soul me,..tra le laa
Interesting. From the wikipedia on Louis Vuitton:
Louis Vuitton is one of the most counterfeited brands in the fashion world due to its image as a status symbol. Only a small fraction of products bearing the LV initials in the general population are authentic. Ironically, the signature Monogram Canvas was created to prevent counterfeiting.[6] In 2004, Louis Vuitton fakes accounted for 18% of counterfeit accessories seized in the European Union.
“I have heard anecdotal evidence that Cayman law firms are losing 30 to 50 per cent of new deals. While I don’t exactly how much of this is due to being on the grey list, this is an attrition rate that Cayman cannot sustain,” said Anthony Travers, chairman of the Cayman Islands Stock Exchange, was recently appointed as the president of the Cayman Islands Financial Services Association. His remarks were made at a meeting of the Cayman branch of the Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA).
In June the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) became an ordinary (or full) member of the International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO). This came after the authority had signed a multilateral memorandum of understanding committing it to co-operation and exchange of information with international regulators.
IOSCO is the organisation that sets international standards and practices for securities regulation and was given the task of reducing global systemic risk by the G20.
IOSCO membership is important to Cayman’s financial services industry, noted Ogier in a recent report. The deal opens doors to some international markets that were previously closed to direct investment by Cayman funds. For example, it is expected that Cayman funds which invest in India should now have the option of being registered as a foreign institutional investor with the Securities and Exchange Board of India rather than investing through intermediary funds based in another jurisdiction or through participatory notes issued by others

PS@alister …” Dmitry Orlov … Q&A”
Some points mentioned …
#1 … ” media ”
In the Q&A at the end, he talks about “media” during the time of crisis, and mentions the old FIDO Network that I used to use.
Me? … I had actually thought of the as well !
#2 … “old equipment ”
He mentions buying old equipment that is easy to fix , cheap to buy and normally lasts longer.

Japan started it’s super Industrial revolution copying existing brands. Famous is the story that they copied it so accurate including the acidental bumps in the Photo Camera.
In the eighties Singapore was famous for it’s fake La Costa T- shirts and Ray-Ban sunglasses. Everybody wanted to get in touch with a sewardess or pilot to bring him some cheap otherwise very expensive brand stuff.
Now it’s China. I remember a story of a Music artist who had a record deal with some company in the West but hardly made any money on it. When he was walking in some Asian country he found his records very cheaply on the black market. What he did was buy all these copies and sell them in the West. He made more money than he got from his own record label!
Little story about brand names,….
years ago , i knew a chap who placed a full page ad’ in the vogue magazine, selling watches
“Enzio Giomani” for £500 a pop.
salespeople used to buy them from him at £20 sale or return,…
They weren’t fake,.but the perception of them was real (Not unlike a brand name if you really
think about it) Folk actually purchased them for the full price from the magazine,..so anyone
recieving a 50% discount was quids in,…….Quite the con’,.our perception of reality can be.
PS: This was back in the eighties.
PPS: I don’t endorse cons’,….: )
you know these americans are mad and are probably gonna get all WE u.k. residents sentenced to death
Supergeek:
First off: the authoritahs who are promoting a police state in your country are British and working through protocol out of the UN or the WHO and are not affiliated with the US at all.
“These Americans” are busy managing a police state over here. I am not apologizing for corporate military profiteers, which of course are mostly American.
Second: The authoritahs are going to stick a rod up your ass even if you do cooperate completely like a good girl scout. The directives for Agenda 21 reveal an agenda to enslave the people of every country and deny personal agency.
If you prefer to be quiet, that is your perogative. I enjoyed reading your previous posts and wish you well.
@Frances,…..you forgot the “R”,….: )
LOL Dedo:
Perogative is a word one may spell with prerogative. Or visa versa.
@Dedo:
The authoritahs are now firing NY State medical workers if they don’t get both the flu and the swine piggy shot even though the studies show the shots in tandem can be harmful!
http://www.infowars.com/canadian-province-may-suspend-flu-shots-after-vaccines-safety-questioned/
The authoritahs are telling doctors NOT to test for the swine flu: just call it swine flu and poke the suckers twice.
@Frances,…I only pulled you on it cause you did me,…way back when,……I was scarred mentally,..as you can tell by my CAPS,…(I’m a tit for tat sort of guy) : )
Taxation?!? This is a problem of banking corruption (as usual, like in the US). Better to focus on the problems with fractional reserve banking and better to look into enforcing anti-fraud regulations first.
This article is a stinker. The banks in the Caymans should fail.
@Dedo:
YOU MUST OVERCOME YOUR AVERSION TO CAPS. The fountainhead of confidence is gained through the manipulation of the LOFTY LETTERHEAD. Trust me THERE IS NOTHING TO FEAR BUT ALL TO GAIN.
I am humbly sorry if I corrected your spelling seeing as I am a teriblle speler.
No honor among thieves.
@mep@frances
thank you for your concern and thanks for asking…I am OK…honest…Mep you know I was annoyed more when peole made you feel like taking a break from this site!!! you know it isn’t the best quote out there but…I had a ‘you gotta stand for something, or you will fall for anything’ type of moment…or as the song goes ‘things gotta git just a little bit salty, to let you that ya still around’
