Timmy Geithner’s bestest friends are bankers

Stacy Summary: Yikes, hopefully this one will post properly.  Can’t post Huffington Post stuff anymore as they install code that messes up all the other code on the site!  Their code is an invitation for you to visit their site, when I am linking to them anyway!  Anyway, your thoughts on this headline?  Corporatism?  Fascism?  Insider trading?  Feudalism?  What do you call it?

They are a small cadre of businessmen who have known and worked with Geithner for years, whose multibillion-dollar companies all survived the economic crisis with help from U.S. taxpayers.

When they call, Geithner answers. He has spoken with them immediately after hanging up with President Barack Obama and before heading up to Capitol Hill, between phone calls with senators and after talking with the Federal Reserve chairman, according to a review by The Associated Press of seven months of his appointment calendars.

  2. First!

    My take:

The simple trick that creates the spectrum of wealth in society is cooperation. Hunting in teams. That is what bankers do and that the downtrodden bums would never dare to do for fear of being branded terrorist of criminals. Core method is coordination though communication.

  3. Can we expect Goldman-Sachs to be opening offices on moon in a couple of years?..

btw, what happened to the landstrips on the moon that were sold in the 90s.. isn’t US invading peoples properties on the moon?

  4. This is a surprise? Of course he talks to them. I mentioned this in a previous post but I will reiterate–the new Vanity Fair piece (http://tinyurl.com/yez23zo) on the sequence of events leading up to TARP is unbelievable on so many levels. You should take a look.

  6. Stacy I loathe Huffington, they carefully censure posters and when I mentioned how comically obvious the demoliton of WTC 7 was on the ‘anniversary’ a month ago, they threw me off the site. Bull shit neo liberal hopers and political junkies in my opinion. Have Max mention the WTC demolition in one his blurbs on there and see what happens.

  8. Hmm, just saw this video from late last month (apologies if repeat):

Jim Rickards, who was general counsel of LTCM, runs Omnis financial consultancy in Virginia… this is him on CNBC last month, talking about: USD as center of national security… interest rates… gold… transition to SDRs… etc

Anyone know anything about Rickards or Omnis?

Some might call it simple cronyism, but I like, kick-back driven command consumerism, sounds better than just corruptionism.
Geithner knows which side of his bread is buttered.

  14. I would say Geithner is a “membre” of a gang,..and his integrity to it, is infallible.
There are many perspectives to seeing the world around you.
He’s only doing what’s best for him and his “gang”
Question is,..would you do the same for yours?
(just fillin’ up my glass of “hic” whine)

  15. Wow great post Stacey! “The three big banks have the power not to just move markets but move entire economies” great quote. I think this is vastly understated though. Obviously Geithner is Obama’s front man for any economic advice. Obama isnt an economist so he trust this guy. It is obvious that Geithner serves as Goldmans , JP Morgans, and Citi’s butt buddy.

It wouldnt surprise me at all that little to no regulation comes out of any financial reform deadline (which has been put off for way too long) Chris Dodd & Barney Frank arent saviors for the system too. All summed up to seeing just more redistribution of wealth to the top 1% and the death of the eroding middle class. Its hard to be a American (a senior college student at that) and see this destruction of our country. The cronies & special interest groups along with huge military contractors run the agenda.

Goodbye Republic, goodbye any type of citizen serving government, goodbye “leader of the free world”, goodbye United States of America. Welcome Corporate States of America (even that might be wrong because there would be shareholders in a corporation who have some sort of say)

  18. A new articel on Martin Armstrong .. good read if you don’t know him already ( as I’m sure Fibon11235 does ):

    http://www.ritholtz.com/blog/2009/10/cycles/

There was a Geometry of Time itself

… This conspiracy, in Armstrong’s telling, widened to include the soon-to-be-killed financier Edmond Safra and the Russian Mob. Armstrong believes that he is in prison because he knows too much about the inner workings of “the Club,” as he calls the major banks and their enablers in government; he maintains that he is a political prisoner, not unlike Kondratiev. …

… The S.E.C.’s Armstrong case file was lost when the September 11th terrorist attack obliterated its offices, in 7 World Trade Center. In 2001, Republic admitted that a number of its employees had committed fraud, and the Japanese investors were paid roughly six hundred million dollars. Nobody from Republic went to jail. Still, Armstrong’s contempt ruling held. …

  19. As soon as Obama appointed Geithner to be TreasSec I knew that Goldman Sachs would continue to be in control of the Treasury Department after the reign of ex Goldman CEO Paulson.

And don’t forget that Geithner’s Chief of Staff is Mark Patterson, former Goldman lobbyist. Could the criminal network be any more blatant?

Here’s a quote from an article I wrote back in March 2009.

    http://futurenewstoday.blogspot.com/2009/03/us-civil-war-in-reverse-fight-new.html

He [Geithner] has been working for their cause as President of the New York Fed for years. He never challenged them or spilled the beans on their dubious investment schemes. He participated in planning the Paulson bailout, particularly with regards to the shady dealings involving AIG. He’s part of the clan. His hands are dirty. If they go down, he knows that he’ll go down with them. In a word, Geithner has been “initiated”.

Some say geithner is a servant,..aren’t we all?
Some say he’s an occultist,…aren’t we all?
I would say he and many like him are integral to a system that relies on loyalty and honour.
In the times I’ve spent communicating on the internet,…I’m afraid that none of the above is prevalent amongst most folk whom I’ve encountered….hmmm I do wonder!!,…

  22. Turbo Tim at it again

  23. I’d call it corporatism/corporate fascism. Insider trading is definitely going on, but that phrase seems to be an understatement . And it almost seems like too “nice” of a phrase to use.

Thinking back to Naomi Klein’s Shock Doctrine, the banksters appear to be using the exact same strategy that the MIC used to loot the treasury in Iraq and Afghanistan: they’ve found EVERY WAY to profit on the upside and every way to profit on the downside. With the invasions/occupations, the invasion downside was the “reconstruction.” With the banksters, it’s credit card rate hikes, zero interest rates, underwriting fees of all kinds, collecting on bets, fed “recapitalization” programs, etc. etc. etc.–all in the name of “recovery.”

It’s really hard to get away from the concept of corporate fascism when you consider the scale of fraud and theft, and look around to see who was held responsible for it. No criminal action has been taken against any corporation or official for the waste, fraud, torture, and abuse overseas. We have some kids in jail who were told to torture. And then, of course, we still have the detainees. With the banks . . . who’s in jail? Bernie Madoff and a couple of other little turds whose names we already forgot.

I don’t see the rule of law being applied anywhere where it is necessary. (A recent interview that Sibel Edmonds did reminded me that we never even got to the bottom of what sure sounds like treason in the highest levels of US government surrounding 9/11.) Nobody is being punished for anything except ordinary people. Meanwhile, corporate America, Washington, and Wall Street have the majority of the people of the world by the balls.

  27. What is stunning to me is that despite Obama announcing his intentions to appoint Geitner on November 24, 2008, people still held onto their Obama fantasies. Appointing this banker’s banker was practically the first thing Obama did as president. Geitner assumed his new position just 6 days after Obama was sworn in.

To me it is simple. Measure people by their priorities as evidenced in their actions, their money, and the results. Which is to say, Obama is what he does and the effects of what he does, not what he says.

Among Obama’s biggest campaign contributors were the same banks that his pre-inauguration appointee was serving as president of the FED, and is serving now. That means Obama serves those same banks.

Of Obama’s top 10 campaign contributors.
    #2 Goldman Sachs $994,795
    #6 Citigroup Inc $701,290
    #7 JPMorgan Chase & Co $695,132

These are the exact SAME banks referred to as having special priority in the phone calls of Geitner in the article.

    Duh!

  53. Naomi, Huffington is a climber and she is addicted to her own celebrity just as most in the political talk boutique business are. They all love hobnobbing with one another, making fees for speaking appearances and basking in the sickness of celebritism. There is no way you can discuss the truth of 911 on her site, it is the biggest no-no. The reason is simple. Her fear of being instantly marginalized and losing her bookings for appearances on all the shows she is constantly jabbering on. If it ever came down to real civil disobedience and a real peoples’ movement in this country she would disappear quickly stage right. And forget about taking any kind of serious stand against Israel on her site. Sure you can criticize but you can’t go Sibel Edmonds on that site, it is to dangerous to her own welfare and celebrity.

Cynical enough China is financing this but they hope that the military strength will weaken before they realy can start pulling the plug cause if they do the US might start WOIII tomorrow. American sheople are so dumbed down that you can do anything with them which they are doing anyways. There is no work beside the militairy so that’s why you have this “growing” into WOIII with the Hitler Jugend and all and more and more militairy personal asking in Afghanistan just as excersize for the new battle ground in the Middle east and against China.

While Tim was talking to his buds and presumably asking them how to move $ around in a way that worked to their benefit, Elizabeth Warren and the people tasked with keeping track of TARP were completely blown off. None of us really has any idea of where the money went, how decisions were made in the allocation of that $, how much red ink was papered over, etc. Congress doesn’t know either. And they certainly don’t know how the Obama White House is using Goldman and JPMorgan to prop up markets. The “bloodless coup” already happened. First it was the neocon foreign policy coup, and then the banking coup. We need congress to reassert itself and begin investigations.

  99. if max is serious about caring for the environment and for preventing the unfair abuse of otherwise innocent people trying to go about their daily activities then he will devote at least some time to the survival international group in consideration of what recently happened – he goes on about the bankers, he goes on about copyright law, he goes on about the whales and the Greenpeace pirates but, more than any of these issues, one issue that is more fundamental to humanity and representative of the maladies of our modern world is the mistreatment of indigenous people, for we criticize with righteous indignation what was done to them in the past whilst both benefiting from those actions and continuing on with our actions unabated

    or is he just posing?

  102. @ alister – If Max doesn’t spend some of his time talking about or doing something about a cause that’s important to me, then it proves that he’s nothing but a heartless poser? In what world is that even fair?!

  103. at mep

    -never said heartless
-proportionally an exponentially higher self-utility value
    -consciously recognizes this
-has, essentially, cult that follows him
-closely associated to what he says cares about
    – i.e. ecology magazine (eg. deforestation)
    – pernicious side of unbalanced development
-highly pertinent – events unfolding as we speak

  104. @ alister – I got tripped up on the “if –> then”.

If he cares, then he’ll _______. Implies that if he doesn’t _________ then he doesn’t care. And he’s also a poser. Would “hypocrite” be a better substitution for “heartless”? Still doesn’t come across as being fair–regardless of what he cares about.

  105. meh, playing semantics distracts from the point

  106. even if he were to ridicule and be rude about me bringing up the issue for, say, a total of 10 seconds as an aside on this radion program, this would probably still lead to more people viisting the site/ donating/caring about an issue indicative of many broader problems. also , problem being pushed by one of indias richest billionaires – who better to hold account, the emerging places or devolving places?

  109. @alister
I agree with your points about the importance of helping indigenous people etc.. but the comments you make about Max, just end up sounding personal like… you are jealous… of summin’ arent you grateful that maybe Max has left some room for you to cut out a career of your own after your book is finished… oh and as for semantics… I don’t mind admitting I have no idea what point you were trying to make in your first reply to Mep… obviously when you are rattled you go into some kind of semantic overdrive yourself… honestly if you have use such complicated language to express a simple point maybe you need to try thinking more!!!
PS. I hope your book is a lot easier to understand, otherwise you may need to stop being jealous of people who are ABLE to get their message across and out there.
