State Economic Sovereignty w/ the Only State-Owned Bank in America

Stacy Summary:    (h/t Bicyclemark)  You mean we don’t need Wall Street bankers??

The Bank of North Dakota is the only state-owned bank in America—what Republicans might call an idiosyncratic bastion of socialism. It also earned a record profit last year even as its private-sector corollaries lost billions. To be sure, it owes some of its unusual success to North Dakota’s well-insulated economy, which is heavy on agricultural staples and light on housing speculation. But that hasn’t stopped out-of-state politicos from beating a path to chilly Bismarck in search of advice. Could opening state-owned banks across America get us out of the financial crisis? It certainly might help, says Ellen Brown, author of the book, Web of Debt, who writes that the Bank of North Dakota, with its $4 billion under management, has avoided the credit freeze by “creating its own credit, leading the nation in establishing state economic sovereignty.

  1. Profits are fleeting. Whether this bank makes money or not is of no significance. It’s the just the government entrenched further in the fraud of fractional reserve lending. Why should we applause a state-owned bank making money, when they’ve done so by usury (i.e. taking North Dakotan’s money through the non-wealth producing item called interest)??? Banks are leeches.

  2. @Stacy, That would be great. Brown and Keen are prophets in the wilderness. I really appreciated Keen’s interview with Max.

@Richard@lattitude30N, The Wanta Affair reads like it could have been the inspiration for the back story for Swordfish (2001). Story’s gotten sidetracked by the Snake Hill Principality Scam lately, though.

  3. frances snoot

Everytime the Feds start a fund to protect the people there is the sound of a sucking motor in the background. The whole structure is papered with Treasury ‘bonds’. Ponzi.

  4. frances snoot

    @Chris:
Yes, I agree with you! The problem is the Fed fingering everything through FDIC controls. I’m not against banks.

  5. @Francis:

Govt’s surely can be bought out by corporate interests. Many are. But if that were always the case, then North Dakota’s bank & govt would be ripping of f its citizens. Do you really think N. Dakota would be better of without a publicly run bank, and run by GS or JP Morgan?

Unless you have some way of destroying the power of corporations, (I’m all ears), we’ll still some organization to represent and protect the people’s interest. That’s the reason “governments are instituted among men”.

“This is a flaw with libertarians like Ron Paul. They fear that gov’t will rule you….but if you get weak gov’t, you just get ruled by corporations instead. You don’t even get to vote for which corporations rule you.”

    @Chris:
The governments work FOR the corporations which represent elite interest. We get screwed by government into believing that the government represents our interests through an electoral process. The electoral process has been snatched by corporate interest.

  9. This is just like the energy crisis in CA in 1999-2000, in which Enron rigged the energy markets and robbed most Californians of billions. However there were a couple of counties which had state owed power supply, instead of PG&E, and these counties did fine. They weren’t plugged into the markets which are rigged.

This is a flaw with libertarians like Ron Paul. They fear that gov’t will rule you….but if you get weak gov’t, you just get ruled by corporations instead. You don’t even get to vote for which corporations rule you.

  18. Ahmed Quraishi, writing about the farce that is H-dog’s stage-managed visit to Pakistan:

“Merely two days before her arrival, four US ‘diplomats’ were arrested [near Margalla police station in sector F-8] in the Pakistani capital dressed as Afghan Taliban, carrying illegal and unlicensed weapons, and in possession of pictures of sensitive buildings. They were released on the intervention of the Interior Ministry, headed by a close aide of President Zardari. The Ministry is openly accused in the media of not only covering for the US embassy’s illegal actions but also of licensing the operations of private US security firms across Pakistan on an unprecedented scale not seen or known even during the reign of the former pro-US president Musharraf.

[...] US citizens are unaware, for example, about the strong Pakistani apprehensions that Washington – or some powerful lobbies there – decidedly brought in anti-Pakistan forces into the government in Kabul, and then set them loose on a course of collision with Pakistan, including recruiting, financing and training terrorists to incite an ethnic insurgency in Balochistan exploiting local grievances.

“Wanta”..well that’s a long and drawn out tale…something about a covert financial takedown sponsored by Reagan at the time the USSR was disassembled, and Wanta controlled $27 trillion in funds that facilitated the demise of the USSR…and that the money was to be repatriated back to the US @ 35% tax rate or $4.5 trillion to the Treasury…and the players involved prevent the return of the funds …. BUT somehow Mr. Wanta has been maligned and is no longer held in good character by C. Story…
Through his “portal” I was informed how the European Clearinghouses are hiding trillions of covert and intelligence agency funds that are the backbone of most offshore activity that continues to this day…The DARK POOLS and NUMBERED ACCOUNTS are vehicles for serruptitious transfer of wealth worldwide…continuing the activities of guns, drugs, child slavery and prostitution….

But it is the ability to think for yourself that should convince you of the truth of global warming.

Having seen the whole AJ fall or the republic film I think it is basically naive. It does not take into account the fact that the demands on any government have changed. It is not enough to tell people to start thinking, that is in a way irresponsible, especially if you say that while you know they are undereducated and bombarded by lies. On top of that he fill those who listen to him with suspicion, paranoia and false beliefs about healthcare reform. He wants to barbeque, but he thinks gevenrment organized communal service is apalling.

  65. Ideally this is precisely the model that each state in the “Union” should adopt for the management of its resources as there is no justification for any state to “invest” its revenues with Wall Street for a miserable return of say 1% while municipalities within that same state borrow from Wall Street at a cost of say 4%. With North Dakota’s model, each state in effect would bypass Wall Street and lend directly to that state’s municipalities at say 2.5% and have both the state and each of its municipalities benefit enormously.

However, the adoption of North Dakota’s model by other states implies two impossibilities. First, the illusion that any elected governor of any state is there to “serve” those who elected him or those whom he legally represents and not Wall Street, who most likely financed that governor’s campaign and therefore “owns” him. Second, the myth that any state is sovereign or independent to act in any way as to threaten the interests of those who own The Federal Reserve Banks.

As Albert Jay Nock so eloquently put it in State of the Union:

“The idea that the State originated to serve any kind of social purpose is completely unhistorical. It originated in conquest and confiscation – that is to say, in crime. It originated for the purpose of maintaining the division of society into an owning and exploiting class and a propertyless class – that is, for a criminal purpose! No State known to history originated in any other manner, or for any other purpose!”

I used to agree that a lot of greenhouse-effect skeptics (lets be specific) were funded by oil companies and others with vested interests. Couple of things changed my mind:

    1. IMO the scale and — more importantly — sincerity of the scientist skeptics (not the cultural/political opponents) is beyond what oil lobbyists and academic dupes could hope to achieve…

2, Seeing how vested interests have infiltrated the green movement (and green-red, green-blue etc).

    http://electronicintifada.net/v2/article10856.shtml

Israel’s settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT) and the Syrian Golan Heights violate the Fourth Geneva Convention, which prohibits the Occupying Power to deport or transfer parts of its civilian population into the territory it occupies. Therefore, the local branches of the two banks in these settlements are illegal as well.

Whatever we like to ‘want’ or ‘think is fair’.
Hopefully this’ll McChange, but for now its just to remind us ;)

  84. Goldman Sachs defends controversial trading practices

The bank also argued that their use helped to add liquidity to the markets, saying that: “The investing community (especially retail) has benefited from the evolving market structure and industry competition.”

What BS especially retail investor benefited

  85. @Fibon11235 …. maybe that particular case is fake , who knows !

OTOH, my father was in the RAF for 45 years, and on retiring, he told me about a case in the 70′s where 2 RAF fighter jets were called out to chase a UFOs ( that’s what they call them !! ). The fighters crashed over France, and the wreckage that they found was literally completely pierced with needle-sized holes … one assumes they got a little too close for comfort. This “RAF event” was never mentioned in any news … except for the sightings themselves. You choose to believe it .. or not !
    ( no smiley ) !
BTW .. the UFO was also tracked on radar and moved in speed and height without no apparent acceleration.

  86. stale mate as in how do we get a global agenda going

  87. @Bonn:
    Ludacrase Stale mate

    How so?

  88. We’re like hungry little birds, grateful for a worm of information.

Alex Jones provides a perspective. Little children believe in “truth” because their lives are built upon a steady succession of lies fed to them from infancy. It’s familiar and consistent and comforting. A base upon which to stand. The base is assumption, always, but the view is free. Are we children?

Admit assumption and lean away from anyone who would claim to be an oracle of truth. No way: it isn’t possible. The stories are always selective and suited to the vested interests of those behind the storyteller.

  89. @ Phil

Seriously if you were visiting the World for your holidays, adventure or mission. Why would you hang out in a desert, Phoenix, Arizona lol come on. Maybe the Amazon or Africa for the wildlife and nature or maybe Europe for some cream cake and culture but Arizona…piss me self laughing.. I can understand that the people there are bored stiff and have fantasies ooooo yes lol

  93. Do the words really matter in the end? The state wants grouping of people to deal with, not individuals with actual thinking apparatus functioning. The words are a way of building up fences between different groups to contain them.

We don’t have a choice at all in the coming ‘new world order’, except to die. And dying would only serve to reduce the population for the elite: win/win.

  94. I don’t get it, WL. The way the different arms of the media play the subject. I think the whole point is the group that watches Alex Jones religiously is the group that the state would rather not carry about any longer. So the whole bid to enrage the goons. Then pick the schmuckies off like target practice later.

Not like the police state showed ANY compassion in New Orleans post-Katrina. Why do white folks think they rate any better?

  95. @Tofu Charlie .. Thx for the Bhutto link !

Doesn’t surprise me at all !

  96. Bonn:
    Can you switch the order?!

    As in:
    ROFL PMSL

    And:
    PMSL ROFL
It wouldn’t change the meaning!? Both ways one is covered in piss? Maybe it would be better the second way so you could sort of clean yourself off by rolling about on a clean surface. Is there an etiquette call here?

  97. Alex Jones is a douchebag…

    Agreed

But he is right on the climate change scam

  98. haha. That’s Stacy running her commie talk again. xD

Al Qiada is mostly misspelled, it’s AL Ciada (AL is from AL Capone or AL Gore)

  109. @Phil

Yep, Bhutto was guned down in clear daylight was CIA work indeed.

I am just wondering why China and Russia allow the Americans to get closer to their borders but China is not strong enough militarely and it could be that the Americans cut a deal with Russia just like they did with Hitler about Poland before WOII and already decided who gets which part.

It seems time for China to support the Taliban and strengthen their army which they are doing already with building new flight carriers. Donnow about China’s technical state. The Russians surely can match up the Americans technically and in some areas are even beyond.

  110. Like I said The Last step to a Global Goverment is prooving tough for the NWO they just don’t know how to do it ROFL PMSL

  111. @Phil

I thought that I heard Tarpley saying that they Americans cut a deal with the Russians so that they are already ready to pump more oil to keep the price down. But you will have a riple effect in the beginning on the first oil sanction news when it comes but than again the NWO knows when that’s gonna happen so profit again from that temporary volatility up.

That would explain why the Russians are not pressing more for negotiations like Putin did before. They sound quiet laconic like…yeah why not..sanctions.

  112. @Danny … I know that

    I thought so . as posted !
BTW… was it Benjamin Fulford that mentioned that Benazir Bhutto’s murder was orchestrated by the C-I-A. ?

I read her autobiography some 15 years ago.
She hated the American influence over Pakistan and hated the CIA even more. She was educated in Oxford .

  113. @Phil

I know that Phil!! :D but thats the story they are gonna feed the world. Brzezinski wants to destroy Pakistan into mini-states, as Pakistan is traditionally aligned with China. And of course, as always, control of pipelines.

Even in (the much loved around here) Adam Curtis’s The Power of Nightmares it is admitted there no such thing as an organised international network of terrorists called Al Qaeda. Robert Gates, Secretary of Defence, wrote in his book that he considered setting up such a phantom organisation. There are terrorists/crazies, but the organised groups tend to be controlled by intelligence networks for all sorts of politically motivated covert operations. (IMO)

  114. @Youri .. I’m not too sure if the refineries in Russia and China have a lot to spare ! It’s my guess that the Iranians need the refined oil for electrical power ( diesel ).
And I suppose the next step (sanction) will be to try and stop oil exports from Iran.
Quite ironic – no wonder the Iranians want Nuclear Energy !
    ;-)

  115. @Phil

They went completely beserk. You know why Japan had to go to war in WOII? They where completely isolated from any supply so had to fight their way out. It seems that they want to pull the same trick. Wonder what Russia and China will say.

Oil will go up which would please Russia but the American people will pay the price in higher oil again. Maybe it’s time to dump the dollar it will happen anyways later when the rest of the world discovers the game plan of the Americans.

  116. Call me insane but just look at the Guys on CNN why are thier Eye Brows going up ???? Who Speaks Like that ??? Starting to Belive David Icke

  117. US Congress initiates sanctions legislation ahead of Iran’s reply

…By a voice vote, the House foreign affairs committee approved legislation Wednesday, Oct. 28 imposing sanctions on Iran’s main gasoline suppliers, including British, French, Swiss and Indian firms.

But if u Default on your Taxes they could Find u even if you were at the North Pole ROFL

  119. @Danny ….. the last thing the US wants is to find bin laden … let alone alive !

    Al-Qaeda is a US-invented name.
It was the name that the CIA used for their covert operations database in Afghanistan during the Ruskies war.
    But you knew that probably.

The Bin Laden family are the biggest building contractors in Saudi Arabia … and get the majority of the US Govt. building contracts there .. or used to anyway.

Also, I may be wrong but AFAIK, the Carlyle Group ( the old presidents club ) handled most of the liaison in such matters .

  120. @Finding Al Qaeda

Hey, it’s hard to find those guys, try it yourself:

  122. Considering financial sector profits contribute massively towards GDP figures why would anyone not expect GDP to be up?

Infact we should expect to see GDP continue to go up whilst the economy gets devastated.

  123. @Phil Re: Pakistan – If the Pakistanis can’t find Al Qaeda, then the US is gonna have to go find them; USA! USA! USA! all made up bull again.

This news that America is out of recession is absolutely laughable – how do the newsreaders keep straight faces when reading it aloud.?

  124. Clinton puzzled at Pakistan failure to find al Qaeda

…LAHORE, Pakistan (Reuters) – U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s said on Thursday it was “hard to believe” that no one in Pakistan’s government knew where al Qaeda leaders were hiding, striking a new tone on a trip where Washington’s credibility has come under attack.

@Stacy: exactly that’s my vision for the numerous Native American tribes…currently the FREE LAKOTA BANK has initiated a non fractional reserve bank issuing gold and silver coins as backing…I see a entire system of affiliate tribal banks nationwide…The states could do the same…let the FED make it illegal..I say they fail…
