    Stacy, the stat you quote about 401(k) plan participants with balances under $ 1,000 cashing out is inaccurately presented [you're cooking in my kitchen]. Employers who sponsor those plans may [under pension law here] force a taxable cash out to terminated participants whose vested balance is under $ 1,000 to keep the plan’s census numbers [and admin expenses] down – this addresses your comment about such amounts. Balances over $1,000 and
    $ 5,000 can be transferred without consent from the plan to an IRA, balances over $5,000 of terminated participants are not subject to the two former cash outs.

  8. @ Bonn – What’s ridiculous is Hillary Clinton proclaiming that the runoff will be “unaffected” by Abdullah’s withdrawal. In what world does it make sense to her that people would vote for a candidate who withdrew on the claim that the election would still be rigged? The pathetic thing is that the entire runoff is a sham, the whole world knows it, yet the international community is spending another couple hundred million dollars on another sham election, anyway.

    I predict some major violence in Afghanistan this week.

  9. LOL Abdillah Abdullah is withdrawing from contesting election against Karzai in Afghanistan ROFL PMSL how much do u think the US paid him 100 million $ or 800 million dollars how much is the opium trade ??? ROFL PMSL

  11. I hate to call you a waste of space and out of touch with reality, but P2P darknets already exist — this particular one is being developed less than 1 km away from Rosetta @ Home …

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oneswarm

    Note that the modern form of BitTorrent uses UDP, not TCP — as TCP can be shut down via a classical “man in the middle attack”…

    Any threat to the existing P2P networks will lead to cration of client systems that make Oneswarm seem like a cheezy botheration scheme.

    I am amazed that there has not been a call for the creation of UDP based HTTP/HTTPS … and for FTP, etc …

    I have a video of a massive tanker ( 300 m. long ) being sunk in the Atlantic by one wave in 2-3 seconds. The video was taken by RAF crew, and they were talking to the caption as the wave hit. The wave hit over the bow ( lengthways ), and the ship was gone in seconds.

    Shocking video … maybe I’ll make a clip and Stacy can post it somewhere if she wants- that is , if anyone is interested.

    But I move toward something that only exists in an elsewhere, and I search in the thought that writing has uncontrollable resourses. That writing is what deals with the no-deal, relates to what gives no return. That something else (what history forbids, what reality excludes or doesn’t admit) can manifest itself there: some other. “We borrow the term “chora” from Plato’s Timeaus to denote an essentially mobile and extremely provisional articulation constituted by movements and their ephemeral stases. We differentitate this uncertain and indeterminate articulation from a disposition that already depends on representation, lends itself to phenomenological, spatial intuition, and gives rise to a geometry. Although our theoretical description of the chora is itself part of the discourse of representation that offers it as evidence, the chora, as rupture and articulations (rhythm), precedes evidence, verisimilitude, spatiality, and temporality. Our discourse-all discourse-moves with and against the chora in the sense that it simultaneously depends upon and refuses it. Although the chora can be designated and regulated, it can never be definitely posited: as a result, one can stimulate the chora, and if necessary, lend it a topology, but one can never give it an axiomatic form.” –JuliaKristeva Revolution in Poetic Language

    I’m curious why Kristeva claims the chora can be regulated seeing as she declares it defies axiomatic definition. Perhaps she is referring to the semiotic eruption of play called music. The chora here is a word derived from Plato, but does not refer to his nebulous female treastice. Here Kristeva touches the essence of the feminine: the voice of Ophelia, that which penetrates reason and then flees the chamber. Here is Faulkner’s easy description:

    “Then hearing would reconcile and he would seem to listen to two separate Quentins now–the Quentin Compson that was preparing for Harvard in the South, the deep South dead since 1865 and peopled with garrulous outraged baffled ghosts which had refused to lie still even longer than most had, telling him about old ghost-times; and the Quentin Compson who was still too young yet to deserve to be a ghost but nevertheless having to be one for all that, since he was born and bred in the deep South the same as she was–the two separate Quentins not talking to one another in the long silence of notpeople in notlanguage…”(pg 6, Absalom, Absalom)

    The long silence of notpeople in notlanguage–the notlanguage resonates across the silent chasm of chronology, as Derrida describes:

    “In the order of time, or rather like time itself, they (the seasons) speak the movement by which the presence of the present separates from itself, supplants itself, replaces itself by absenting itself, produces itself in self-substitution” (pg 309 Of Grammatology).

    The movement of the chora does not attempt to capture: it is the essence of release. Kristeva is correct in asserting that reason cannot define the chora, and yet it is also true that reason can never deny her existence.

    We know.

  29. Phil nice clips, reminds me of a Christmas crossing between Holyhead and Dun Laoghaire I did years ago, the storm was so bad the ship had to stay put and weather it out, fucking mental, all stuff in the duty free shops smashing around me, people puking up everywhere, pretty hair raising stuff,one wouldn’t think the Irish sea capable of dishing up anything that devilish, Joyce ye can take yer snot green sea and stick it yer arse.

    M&S the truth will always out, I fondly recall listening to your show down there in darkest SE London performing all sorts of acrobatics with my antenna (pre-your internet broadcasting days) being interrupted by mini-cabs and garage DJ’s. Pidgeon delivered wax drums, two tins and a pices of string, who cares, the message not the medium.

    As for Munich next time I catch lurking around carparks I’ll get all fuckin’ Bushido on yer arse http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKU0ZbCJzlw (check out tjhe suplexs at the end of the clip, tough bastards the Japs, no wonder the fuckers kept fighting well into the 70′s).

  32. One of my best girlfriends lives in Germany. Next time I talk to her, I’ll ask her how things are there.

  33. Max comes up with another new meme – “witches of Wall Street”. Brilliant!

  34. Ok, check- did not realize how large numbers might be expressed differently somewheres else.

    Note that derivatives posses no remarkable identity from participating bonds used a century ago during the railway booms. In the long depression that followed the crash of 1875, you saw interest rates climb(briefly) to 200%.

    Participating bonds eventually became pyramided and networked on their own, leading to a depression. Though the depression was marked by stable wages and declining prices.

  35. @FranSix –
    Million = 1 000 000
    Milliard = 1 000 000 000 (US-Billion)
    Billion = 1 000 000 000 000 (US-Trillion)
    British – long-scale that is… when are the Americans gonna learn and adopt…?

  36. You guys seem really confused ! me thinks people like mAx and stacEy are laughing at you,..(not with you)
    @Frances,.What was that you were saying about knowing?

  37. @total sum of notional value of derivatives

    Is said in the press to be $600 Trillion.(not billion – trillion) Prior to the downturn of markets at the peak in 2007, it was said to be over a Quadrillion.

    The basis for the LTCM bet was a short position of 400 tonnes of gold. Which was the asset to underwrite some 10000X leverage.

  38. In finance, you are now seeing the appearance of “Contracts For Difference”, which are derivatives being traded on the open market through internet brokerages such as Interactive Brokers(IB) or Man Financial.(MF)

    They were recently approved for trade in Canadian markets, but are not legal in the U.S. The monopoly of derivatives is held by a risk cartel in that country, but nowhere else.

    I would not assume that telecoms are entirely against net neutrality, since most of their traffic is not based on content, but on the flow of gigabits. What purpose would it serve telecoms to dictate content when they cannot restrict phone conversation topics?

    The internet is two stage whether you like it or not. The fibre optic cable that was laid until the Nasdaq bust in 2000, and wireless nodes. Fairly soon, hand held or laptop devices will hold the equivalent of an entire server’s worth of info, so forget about controlling content.

    Even in the energy markets, you will see monopoly distribution syndicates, which will fight tooth and nail against wireless energy distribution, and smaller energy producers with something like the following:

  45. Oh, almost forgot – Loved the Show – Thanks :)

  46. RE: Derivatives
    I read and hear that the estimated sum of derivatives is 5-600 Billion USD. Do anyone cash out? With this amount of money a person or a company cashing in on one of these schemes must presumably become very rich, Milliard or something. Bill gates 50 Milliards seem like a small fortune in the world of Billions. Or is derivatives a game where nobody cashes out on a winning forward, option, swap…?

    RE: Paranormal Activity
    Another good example of peer-to-peer helping spread a low budget movie is the magnificent highly recommended film – The Man from Earth – http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0756683/ “…In what may be an unprecedented move, the producer of this film, Eric D. Wilkinson, has publicly thanked users of BitTorrent who have distributed the movie without express permission, saying that it has lifted the profile of this product far beyond the financier’s expectations (Wikipedia)…”

    RE: book – Web of Debt
    Read the books introduction on the webofdebt.com and it looks very interesting, so I’m looking forward to hear from the author in the next show.

    RE: Net neutrality
    The internet is being concentrated around a few huge companies and they do not want to lose the net neutrality and risk having to pay for internet traffic to their sites when they get it for free now, especially now as they are gaining control over the whole internet traffic. It would have made more sense a few year back when they had to fight for the internet traffic to their sites, today 30 large companies/hyper giants generate and consume a disproportionate 30% of all internet traffic.
