Stacy Summary: Hat trick to @maxkeiser! We really have to get Max back into that Blue Lagoon . . .
A year after the banking crisis brought Iceland to the brink of bankruptcy, the island nation is mired in the deepest recession among advanced economies. The stock market has lost 97 percent of its value, and more than 780 companies have buckled under the weight of foreign currency loans as the krona plunged. Consumers refuse to borrow at Europe’s highest interest rates, and international banks reject requests for new financing.
Prime Minister Johanna Sigurdardottir, who took office in February, pinned hopes for a recovery on the International Monetary Fund after Kaupthing hf, Landsbanki Islands hf and Glitnir Banki hf racked up $80 billion in debt, 16 times Iceland’s economic production. Now she says the economy may implode again as a dispute over Icelandic savings accounts held by overseas depositors delays a promised $5.1 billion bailout.

Stacy Summary: Good mornin’ y’all. Yes thanks for all the great links in the latest jibber jabber. Here is what I am reading this morning. The second link from Jesse is very interesting. Read it and let me know your thoughts in comments please!
The monetary stimulus of the Fed and the Treasury to help the economy is similar to relief aid sent to a suffering Third World country. It is intercepted and seized by a despotic regime and allocated to its local warlords, with very little going to help the people.
By far this presents the most compelling case for a deflationary episode. As the money that is created flows into financial assets, it is ‘taxed’ by Wall Street which takes a disproportionately large share in the form of fees and bonuses, and what are likely to be extra-legal trading profits.

Stacy Summary: You heard this here first, of course . . . but here is the Daily Mail take on the Bono story.
Bono is a prime example of baby-boomer good vibes – of feel-good politics tarted up with celebrity endorsement.
Born in 1960, he is a pin-up for late fortysomething, early fiftysomething urbanites of a vaguely Left-wing bent.
That is, they feel they should be Left-wing, though they may not live out their principles in their spending habits. It is a very Islington state of mind.

Stacy Summary: Yikes, hopefully this one will post properly. Can’t post Huffington Post stuff anymore as they install code that messes up all the other code on the site! Their code is an invitation for you to visit their site, when I am linking to them anyway! Anyway, your thoughts on this headline? Corporatism? Fascism? Insider trading? Feudalism? What do you call it?
They are a small cadre of businessmen who have known and worked with Geithner for years, whose multibillion-dollar companies all survived the economic crisis with help from U.S. taxpayers.
When they call, Geithner answers. He has spoken with them immediately after hanging up with President Barack Obama and before heading up to Capitol Hill, between phone calls with senators and after talking with the Federal Reserve chairman, according to a review by The Associated Press of seven months of his appointment calendars.
