@Sherbert: “Deutche bank drowning….” One word >>WOW!! that’s a lot of potential loss…and a casino as well!!! If the house is drowning does that mean they still win ( underwater )???

  4. The business model is to squeeze the middle class…listen to how they with hold medical disability to veteran …what a joke.

    Week of 11.13.09
    Elizabeth Warren on the Economy
What exactly is going on with the economy? Stocks are up and big bonuses are back, but while they’re throwing parties on Wall Street, there’s pain on Main Street. One out of every six workers is unemployed or underemployed, according to government statistics – the highest figure since the Great Depression.

one thing i don’t understand about CEF. when I was looking into it, it was listed in the ETF Connect web site.
I wonder why that would be.

    No Separation of powers !

  15. @marietta – because it’s a closed end fund; it’s not an etf like gld which only promises to mimic the price of gold; CEF actually buys and stores physical gold and silver

  16. Ohhhh! Thanks

  17. @Stacey

    Got ginger?

Actually, yes. A friend of mine is always giving me stuff to plant as her garden is a mess. I planted her ginger root 2 years ago and it is growing incredibly. I thought ginger only grew in Asia. Silly. I bought another root at the grocer and it is going gangbusters. The best part is that the fresh ginger is great. It’s crispy actually. Not tough and very flavorful. Yum.

Best of all–I know it’s organic. 100% organic. Seems there was a pesticide scare in China. I don’t trust food from China.

  18. Reuters : Obama says al Qaeda still greatest threat to U.S.

Sheesh .. they never give this line up do they !

I would say that the greatest threat to the US is from the INSIDE !

  19. US$ seems frozen like it’s in time today !

Gold and Silver surging, but no US$ reaction , at least to the Euro.

@Phil: Your comments remind me that for decades past “we” could depend on farmers for their very accurate predictions concerning the right time to plant, water, harvest..etc…similarly today’s market manipulation makes it equally impossible to discern when and if it is the right move to buy gold or sell dollars…how impossible it must be for traders to do anything but be right on the heals of the HFTs and insider trading

  21. Goldman Does God’s Work, Only Not That Well

The more I think about it, though, the more I think that this must be some sort of clever p.r. strategy. I’m actually almost desperate to believe that this is a conscious strategy on Goldman’s part because if this really is what it looks like — if these people really are that blind and stupid — then that makes their exalted, entrenched position as mega-oligarchs endlessly lording over us truly horrifying, in a the-universe-is-random, black-comedy sort of way. It’s like making it all the way to the end of The Wizard of Oz and finding out that the Wizard is a hospital patient on a Haldol drip pushing a mop down the corridor of a cranial injury ward.

  22. @Richard .. how right you are !

And that is the problem … that these futures exchanges trade “paper” wares instead of the real thing.

Just imagine GS or JPM having to physically deliver or take physical delivery of Billions of barrels of Oil or tons of Silver or Gold.

There was supposed to be a rule on the Comex and LMA about keeping it that way (physical) .. and recent talk of bringing that rule back AFAIK.

  23. When the casino story reads that “they had to write down” 500 million euros, what exactly do they mean? As a loss on the year’s books?

    @Mep
LOL. That is obvious: testosterone and low brain wave frequency function for balls with those guys.

  26. Sort of a read’em and weep article. Nyuk Nyuk

  27. Wondering how long the US can cover up more of the same in 2010.

    1) 15-20% unemployment rate (unofficially 25%)
    2) Massive Commercial loan Failures
    3) A terrible Retail Christmas Sale season
    4) Banks coming back for more bailout $$$
    5) A Subterranean dollar
    6) Yankees winning the World Series (okay Sox fan)

and that will be a great yr compared to 2011.

  28. Main Street Tells Wall Street, ‘Get a Real Job’: Susan Antilla

In the 14 years I’ve written columns for Bloomberg News, I’ve had plenty of feedback from investors who said they lost money at the hands of corrupt brokers, plus a steady stream of vitriol from financial executives who say I’m clueless, stupid, and deserve to lose my job.

I have never, though, been bombarded with anything like the fury and frustration expressed this time by people far removed from Wall Street, ranging from computer programmers to administrative assistants to the caretaker of an estate. Typically a handful of e-mails will float in; this time the number topped 60 and counting.
