Just listened to the segment. Max I am afraid you failed to dumb the message down enough for that audience which still sees Obama (the one) as their savior. TH is an apologist for the liar in chief and a fine pied piper for the powers that be the use propagandists like him to sell their phony climate change carbon tax crap. You had me rolling on the floor laughing when you said “what you think he’s going to get a brain transplant!” as Tom the apologist went into his oh so predictable “obama as the multi-level chess player” spiel. Frankly I can’t stand Tom the communist Hartmann and his collectivist pseudo-intellectual holier than though patronizing ways (ever notice how he feels he needs to explain everything to his audiance and when he does he’s more often than not WRONG!).. Anyway … good job as the Obamabots need to here the truth once in while.
@Max: now that I look back…Thom has always viewed the advent of the “consumer society” as America’s downfall…and refers to the days when we had Manufacturing and Tariffs; and Trade was protected from massive foreign nation dumping…and he actually has called for those glory days to return…alas me thinks he is a bit whimsical and may have had a change of heart now that Max has been his guest….or does Max have a rather good PR agent( agency )???? Next would be his advent for SOUND MONEY!!!Now that would truly surprise me…
We haven’t SEEN shock doctrine yet.
@DanValley:
Yes. But if you’re looking to make apple pie, don’t go hunting round in a cherry orchard. And a tree that has it’s roots in the sand isn’t going to last for long.
Spring leads to fall and the fruit has long since dropped to the ground. There was nice fruit, but we didn’t get any. Lindsey is selling fruit from years that have been grafted and are sickened and close to death.
And when there are a lot of trees of the same ilk malingering and cross-pollinating one another, one calls that an orchard. The master of the orchard is the one who profits off those trees.
But people really aren’t trees.

The forward by Stiglitz explains why the people of the land cannot be trusted with their own oil profits but need wiser ones to manage the wealth:
“To avoid these outcomes, political leaders and citizens need to regard their country’s natural resources as the nation’s endowment. These resources do not belong exclusively to the current government or generation, but to all citizens and generations. The current govern- ment and generation are simply trustees. To use these resources for one’s own benefit, leaving future generations impoverished, is to steal their patrimony. Leaders inside and outside of government share a responsibility to promote this sense of stewardship in resource-rich
countries.”

Have a go: IMF governor Geithner said, “Stick it where the sun doesn’t shine. I know I lie. But if you all are too stupid to figure it out and do something about it, well, then: who’s the victim?”
@Mep:
Do you think the hobbits are still about?
@ Joe – I’d like to see people in both Geithner’s and Summers’ positions who 1) have no allegiance to or connections to Wall St., 2) recognize and acknowledge that the financial system is broken and corrupt, 3) truly understand how ordinary people are affected by the current system, and 4) have good ideas re: how to reverse economic inequality as well as create a sound economic system for the long-term. A group of people I like for Treasury: Robert Reich, Dean Baker, James Galbraith, Nouriel Roubini, Joseph Stiglitz, Paul Krugman, Nassim Taleb. Brooksley Born would be great for one of the remaining Treasury positions, too.

Blair, Geithner, who will be the third?
Max, you were truly great. Thanks for trying to educate the clueless.
yeah even if he did resign his twin would be taking his place. Nobody with any actual change in mind would come. Instead expect unemployment to drop by a small margin & the media to jump on that as a sure sign of recovery and when the next reports come out of a decline again it will be blamed on not enough stimulus or some other reason. –
truth is @frances is right and Geithner resignation would only lead to another stooge to implement the same garbage. No victory for the people but only a revolving door for more global dominant minded people
Goodness, Will. Haven’t you heard about the golden calf?

They used to call it idolatry: bowing down to the yellow metal.
Boy, Hartman really needs to get real about his precious obama. How long can those obots stay in d’nile.
And Geithner won’t be fired but will look to a promotion. He is a good liar in the order of Pinocchio and has the nose to match!
Those that follow orders well are always promoted or rewarded.
Which makes me wonder why the regulations are being put in place without any trials of criminals. It looks to me like a consolidation of ability to play the risk game (more mergers less competition) rather than a true reform. How can reform come out of Barney Frank’s committees?
@All:
Not to be contrary, but if Geithner is removed it will not be by the will of the people but to deceive the people in ordinance of the IMF handlers. It will to be to fill the empty board seat at the IMF governing board. NOW if Ron Paul did take that position, then run for the hills like you mean it. Cause that would be a sure sign that the finest has tasted corruption and likes the flavour.

@MEP
i agree its political – but what does market fundamentalist mean. Geithner is just a crony right? Market is thrown out the window. Im just curious what kind of change would you look for in a change of Treasury sec. – you could call someone like Rep Ron Paul or whoever and market fundamentalist but would approach situations much differently. Im not a Ron Paul hawk but im just curious…
Rep. Brady proved this evening on the Ed Show that his “Geithner ought to resign” stance is purely political.
Check the first video:
http://www.bigeddieradio.com/
. . . and listen to Brady’s idea re: who he thinks should take Geithner’s place. He is basically advocating that Geithner leaves his post so that another Geithner can fill it. Brady wants a market fundamentalist in that spot. What in the hell does he think we have now?
Sadly, Ed dropped the ball and failed to probe Brady on that point.
Tempting but the likes of Hartmann, Malloy, Rhodes and Maddow are enough to put you off of food. Kinda like AJ and his ilk. Sugar coated BS cupcakes.
@Max: now I remember why i stopped listening to Thom..he’s a reformer through and through..your “brain transplant” comment was a spice of life…and a reality that Thom refuses to accept that the corruption is systemic; and Obama is a pawn….that the” banksters”, as he also calls them, is a pleasant euphemism but not in tune with real terrorists who throw bombs, behead people and suicide themselves…he can’t come out of his cocoon…in his mind the righteous will prevail….they will have a mea culpa and work for the best interests of the “people”….he’s lost….what a waist…a progressive who wants the satanic forces to reverse their path and straighten out the corruption…GO MAX GO….at least you were heard on Clearchannel…for what that is worth

More gold jibber-jabber ~
In this paper from teh St. Louis Fed http://research.stlouisfed.org/wp/2003/2003-014.pdf
the researcher shows: “We demonstrate that pure inflation targeting in a paper money standard can deliver as much price stability as a commodity standard.”
So sit back and relax, there will be no inflation, Ok?

Gold jibber-jabber ~ If gold’s value is just “fiat” (Latin “Let it be so!”), why did this most ancient culture work so hard to get it out of the earth? Perhaps some arrogant writers are full of “stercum tauri” and don’t really understand human nature.

@T – I just finished listening as well. I actually thought that Thom Hartmann and Max made a pretty good team. It reminded me of the way in Sports they have a play-by-play announcer and a color announcer. Max is obviously the color guy and Thom is playing more the straight guy. I thinks something like this could work well on MSM. Of course, your right that sponsors of MSM would never allow this to happen.
But the heck with them. The MSM is dying anyway. Their power is being diminished. They’ll try to subvert the message of people like Max and claim it as their own, but I don’t think it will work this time. There is just too much information available via the internet. And the speed at which information flows is equally as important. Today you can see how ideas can go viral on the internet in a matter of hours.
This is a very powerful phenomena which we must take advantage of. I encourage everyone to use your ability to post ideas across the internet to help speed up the spread of this important subversive information.

Geithner under fire to resign (wsj) http://bit.ly/YMzLJ
@ Mother Earth – Geithner’s defense–about the past 8 years, esp.–was actually pretty good; or, it would’ve been had it been anybody but Geithner making it. Seems to me that he actually believes that he was not supposed to act as regulator in his former job. That’s the only way that it makes sense for him to shirk any culpability for the crisis.
BTW- I love how when talking about the Fed’s role, peeps mention keeping inflation in check but entirely ignore the Fed’s responsibility where employment is concerned.
The falling U.S. dollar does not necessarily have inflationary consequences and there are presently more disinflationary forces at work, Dallas Federal Reserve President Richard Fisher said in an interview.
“You pay attention to this,” Fisher said in reply to a question about the effects of a weaker dollar. “On the other hand, in terms of its inflationary input, unless it becomes disorderly, a depreciating dollar — a gradually depreciating dollar — doesn’t necessarily add an enormous inflation impulse,” he said.

Since Geithner’s position is the sitting governor for the US on the board of the IMF, wouldn’t the IMF have to fire Geithner for the man to lose his position? Are you indicating the United States is deciding to withdraw from the IMF? Or will the US Treasury become what it is nominally as well as practically: a moribund agency.
Wouldn’t the End of the Fed and the Treasury signal a true End to the US as political proxy arm of the international bankers? Is this why Obama signed the stimulus bill in Denver with nine pens: one for each region of Fema from which the US will be governed? Isn’t that why the US is referred to as the Commonwealth on the Fema site?

Just listened to this. And it is disappointing that Hartmann won’t push harder to mobilize change (for several reasons).
If you compare progressive hosts, right now he has the biggest audience. Ed Scultz is trying hard to play with the big boys, but IMO he’s boring. Others (Randi Rhodes, Mike Malloy, etc.) are on the fringes with podcasts and self-syndication.
Hartman is syndicated thru Dial Global (which also handles Scultz by the way). And being the savy media Socialist that he is, he knows that sponsors will only tolerate so much. Point #2: If Schutz cares so much about implementing single-payer, then why doesn’t he use all of his network clout? Why doesn’t he get people like Noam Chomsky on? Because in Network MSM Land that’s the kiss of death.
And for those who say how come lots of rich liberals (MIchael Moore and others) don’t band together to finally back a REAL progressive network here’s the answer. Again, they know when not to bite the hand that feeds them. Easy question: why does the MSM put Michael Moore on-air? Because his films make money. If his films didn’t, nobody would give him the time of day. Which means that he knows even he can only go so far in the States. Overseas, he can get away with more. And people online will follow it.
And besides, if somebody did try to start a network and hired all of these presenters, it wouldn’t last five minutes. Why? They’d kill each other.

Time’s up for Tim Geithner
The way I see it at this point Timothy Geithner has two choices – either he can resign or be fired. Congress is gunning for him and eventually Obama will be forced to offer him up as a sacrifice. Of course his friends over at Goldman Sachs will do everything in their power to weather this storm. Bernanke, too, must be sweating knowing that he’s next to be brought up before the congressional firing line. And Larry Summers has been hiding out of sight – maybe in one of Cheney’s old bunkers.

@all – Love the metaphysical discussion. Here is something I’ve been wanting to interject. The lure of gold is not just physical, it is also metaphysical. Gold has a spiritual (some would say occult) power and significance. Just as crystals are alleged to have spiritual powers, so too does Gold.
The qualities that make gold the best conductor of electricity and heat also give it unique qualities. One you look at gold, you are looking at a swirling mass of free electrons. Gold does not tarnish like other metals – it lasts forever. So for both physical and metaphysical reasons, gold is unique and has been coveted by humans throughout history.
I would also attest that power throughout history followed along with Gold. The Spanish once had the Gold and the power. This passed on to the hands of the British and the Germans. Now it is in the hands of the Americans. But it is seen to be passing on into the hands of the Chinese. There is an occult quality to this – think Freemasons.

To get a idea of where Ireland has come over the decades you will have to journey back to the 1930s when Ireland under De Velare was fighting a econimic war with Britian – even though it cost us dearly it gave us a measure of Independence from London , this was not to last however….
The country had been essentially boycotted by international capital until finally Lemass conceeded defeat and the country was opened up in the 50s
It was not however just London in the mix – the other power structure – thee first multinational had gained near total control of the education system over the last 2 centurys
Rome had usurped the republicism of Wolf Tone and had made it its own.
Fast forward to today and you have a goverment consisting of peasant stock educated by Christian brothers being outmanouvered by Jesuit educated bankers/civil servants who believe they are doing the best they can under the circumstances, meanwhile the Rothschild Bank itself has replaced Morgan Stanley as the chief “advisor to the Goverment”
I have left out the priesthood of Brussels for brevity sake – but I’m sure you get my thinking on this depressing situation.

I have noted on many of your shows that you always state there is nothing stopping the Fed from increasing the margin lending rate. I believe the people in charge have no intention of raising interest rates.
From what I perceive in my view, it would appear to be that the destruction of the dollar is the objective of Q.E and the general policy attitude of the Fed. The destruction of the dollar would have massive geopolitical ramifications – the scale of which I am not able to imagine.

The guy behind Brady the Hero looks bored to tears.
I heard this poem in Madrid last night and got the author, David R Wall, to let me upload onto my blog.
It’s a poem about the Irish experience at the hands of the predator financial terrorists. For you pleasure:
After the Tiger
The infant wonder of Europe,
Has come crawling back to the teat,
We’ve spent your monopoly money,
A little more’s all we need,
Just give us this last dig-out,
We promise we’ll put things right,
We’ll make the tough decisions,
We’ll fix things overnight,
Just a measly sixty billion,
At least that’s the latest cost,
To plug this sinking disaster,
If we don’t it’ll all be lost,
We’ve had an ingenious idea,
To shovel off all the dirt,
We’re going to buy the assets,
For a whole lot more than they’re worth,
See the bankers are short of money,
At risk of losing their jobs,
What kind of cruel society,
Would throw this lot to the mobs,
We must save these noble fellas,
And the poor investors too,
Didn’t you know when you gamble,
You can win but you can’t lose?
Just think what they’d say abroad,
If the government bought the banks!
Kindly overlook the fact,
It’s been done by the Brits and the Yanks,
The burden must fall in the proper place,
You’ll agree, it’s only fair,
The guilty party knows who it is,
You, the formerly flush taxpayer,
Of course the load will be even,
We’re all in this together,
Rich and poor will both alike,
Have a decade of debt to weather,
And cuts to public services,
On which so much we have spent,
Though now it’s over it’s hard to tell,
Where all that money went,
Ah the innocent Irish nation,
So new to the self-rule game,
Your carefree childhood has ended,
You’ve only yourself to blame,
Grow up and face the future,
’s time someone got up and lead,
For the decade’s myth is over,
And the Celtic tiger is dead.
@Danny …. Have been going Alex Jones cold turkey the last couple of weeks but this Catherine Austin Fitts interview is scary. Catherine talks about a ‘world government under banks and giant corporations’…
