@ AM – The guy who did that series was actually a scientist. He went through the twists and turns that the global warming debate has taken since the 70s and explained that, indeed, sunspots were dismissed pretty quickly, only for the theory to pop up again and to have no support for it.

There are many articles about it, and it seems to me this is THE ISSUE those of us interested at all in financial markets should be discussing.
0.25% of transactions to be taxed? 0.25% of what? The gross value of each trade and derivative?! When you look at the hundreds of billions that they are discussing, it is difficult to find another interpretation.
This is HUGE – it would completely and utterly destroy what is left of the investment banking industry, hedge funds etc.

my thought is to ban anyone in the government sector (say in SEC) or any regulatory authority that has any conflict of interest in say Wall St. or so on…. also campaign financing must be reformed in order that politicians are not paid for.. the influence of industry in the government is pretty much regulatory capture… I like the free-market principles and such but many underlying reasons on why the gov has failed us needs to be changed… Goldman Sachs should not ever be able to fund millions of dollars AND have former employees have high gov jobs.
