  5. Is Britain on the brink of financial armageddon?
    By James Palumbo
Last updated at 11:07 PM on 27th November 2009

… Before the crunch, total government debt stood at roughly 40 per cent of GDP. It is now around 60 per cent of GDP, but is projected to soar close to 100 per cent in the next few years. But again, that is not the full story.

Treasury estimates of the size of the national debt ignore so-called ‘off balance sheet commitments’, such as Private Finance Initiatives (effectively, hospitals and schools built with money loaned by the private sector) as well as the massive unfunded government pension liability.

There may be other, hidden, liabilities. After this week’s shocking revelation of secret loans of £62billion made by the Bank of England to the Royal Bank of Scotland and HBOS at the height of the credit crunch, who knows how many other skeletons remain in the Treasury’s closet?

It is wise to assume that the true size of Britain’s debts could be much bigger than we all think.

Yet politicians of both parties can’t acknowledge this. Why? Because any dispassionate analysis would spell only one thing – we need massive spending cuts and tax rises to avoid heading the way of Iceland and Dubai.

  9. a good one that someone else posted here the other day

George Carlin and Bill Hicks tell it like it is

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQ3xxwQvVnE

  10. I can’t bear to watch, see the face or hear the voice of George W. Bush.

The Bush Crime Family has done enormous damage to this country and the world.

This travesty of a President is not funny.

Maybe I’ll get my sense of humor back regarding these ciminals….but I doubt it. Their crimes are too many and too huge. Still to those to can laugh at the drug damaged, amoral buffoon known as George W. Bush, go ahead and get some enjoyment out of “it” the “creature” that inhabited the Whitehouse.

  11. Although funny, Adam Curtis has quite a different take on this series, in the documentary “The Trap”.
Well worth watching, for this and more.

  12. Not a humorous video (“Yes Minister” is a tough act to follow!) but I’d like to recommend to everyone the recently screened 3-part series “Addicted to Money” by David McWilliams.
    http://www.davidmcwilliams.ie/addicted-to-money

The last 2 most recently screened parts of it are available to download from Australia’s ABC website:
    http://www.abc.net.au/tv/documentaries/downloads/

Check it out if you have the bandwidth, I think it’s really good.

  13. (Addendum: Internet Archive might help you secure part 1, maybe)

  14. seems really interesting.

  15. Bush did so many stupid things almost uncountable. things like this will stay with me for ever; http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/bush-god-told-me-to-invade-iraq-509925.html one of the many great moments. Best would be a politician/president that works for the people, doesnt kill other people, doesnt give money to goldman sachs and co, end the private control of the fed and so on, yet in a corpocracy/neo feudilistic state/system based on cronyism and corruption that is apparently too much to ask. Cant believe im gonna say this but Somewhere bush was better than obama although they both steal, rape, kill, pillage and plunder. Obama just lies, does exact the same as bush. The only time obama makes me chuckle is when he screws up to read the teleprompter. So seen by track record that the last 50 years none of the president’s worked for the people, i would prefer a joker that tells it as he experiences reality (if you had done some research in the history of iraq; everything bush said was just ridiculously idiotic), instead of a boring teleprompter reader that just lies. 2012 palin, now that’s someone who can beat bush for the funniest president ever, anyways glad i don’t live in the US.

  16. Michael Le Couteur MSCD, ret'd

Thanks Phil. That made me laugh. It is as if the word has been removed from the elitest vocabulary.

Just once I would like to see their pants spontaneously combust while they spin their lies.

  17. @Michael Le Couteur MSCD, ret’d

Yes, it is basically taken for granted these days that nearly all politicians lie … and they don’t even care any more as if it’s expected of them !

@gb .. thanks for the link to 5th. Estate

Just finishing part 1 … about the controlled demolition.
… but why don’t these guys mention Ruppert’s WTF and Crossing the Rubicon, where the political undercover background operations/murders/lies/ etc. etc. are all documented meticulously ? Are they all competing for the “rights” on this uncovering of the truth I wonder ?

  18. @Majestic

“Sorry Due to copyright reasons this video program is available for download by people located in Australia only. If you are not located in Australia, you are not authorised to view this video.”

  19. @Y’all
yeah minister…well… amongst other things… you only have to look at it to realise it really was definitely for a certain for and directed at certain age group etc… never was a fan!!!

  20. Can I take a poll where evryone is from
cause i have alternate history like
a King didnt care a rats arse about Jesus untill 300 AD plus Jeasus was 4 years old at 0 AD or BC AND would
And i could go on and relate it to “NIMROD”

  21. Will not watch and have this pr*ck bring my day down (the morons and idiots are in charge) —

Look at Denninger’s discussion of “new Treasury policy” that is mark all real estate loans to 3 – 5 yr future market value. Fantasy land.

Ripe quote: “What do you want to do, bankrupt all the banks?” No, we’ll bankrupt every small business and landlord in america instead.

  22. @ Chenjeshu

    Oh no! Sorry guys :-(
But if you can come across a copy by other means (I believe it goes on sale on DVD in December, for example), then do watch it. I hightly rec it.

  23. Michael Le Couteur MSCD, ret'd

    @Phil

If I may expand on your idea with my take? It looks as if some news agencies may be seeing the light. It may well be that when the “Truth” comes out they may be looked at as the only beacon of “Reason” when it comes to the news. Is it a ruse? Is it designed to get us sucked in? Just so they can have the monopoly. Who knows. Agendas abound. The CBC is not to bad. It could be another shot of “divide and conquer.” Just enough info to get the split down the middle. Heck, if you can divide Star Trek fans you can divide anyone.

Have a great Sunday all and lets see what tomorrow brings.

  29. The Dork of Cork

    @phil
yes minister was a extremely witty comedy but it created the belief that advisory agencies outside goverment were always better then civil servents – these “independent” think tanks gradually took over goverment policey and shaped and used tax revenue for their own ends.

  30. Could you help to spread the word about Martin Armstrong and his removal from his present prison at Fort Dix to his certain death in Brooklyn?

Look around now and you can see who the power was given to… The Sharks, The Bankers… Goldman Sachs etc!!!

  32. @Phil – Yes, Prime Minister – I love that series, always nice to see again.

    Sunday Video Club:
This is a pure historical documentary and is called The Wonderful World of Albert Kahn (Edwardians In Colour 5Ep. and Twenties In Colour 4Ep.) made the proper way as only BBC documentary makers can. A spectacular journey through Albert Kahn’s “The Archives of the Planet” project. His collection of colour photography and cinematography taken from 1909 to 1931 in every continent is truly fascinating to watch, together with a great narrative story making it a top documentary. Recommend being inventive on the internet and find the .mkv files for quality but her is a link to the first 5 parts: http://www.123video.nl/video.asp?q=edwardians+in+colour&CatID=&zoek=Zoek&familyFilter=ON

  34. How to Detect Lies

    Introduction to Detecting Lies:

The following techniques to telling if someone is lying are often used by police, and security experts. This knowledge is also useful for managers, employers, and for anyone to use in everyday situations where telling the truth from a lie can help prevent you from being a victim of fraud/scams and other deceptions.

Warning: Sometimes Ignorance is bliss; after gaining this knowledge, you may be hurt when it is obvious that someone is lying to you.

  40. @Danny

Just re- viewed this 3 Days of the Condor movie again. It’s very good and realy enjoyed it. Old movies have a quality which is difficult to find nowadays. Todays films are intellectually dummed down and only focus on action most of the time.

I think the ‘starve the beast’ slogan has the potential to become a BIG meme.

    Related:

‘The pro-centralization team is a global network. They are a “we” and they have a plan. The pro-decentralization team is not networked globally, is not a “we,” and doesn’t even have a map of this world, let alone a plan. — I always tell people not to worry whether there is a conspiracy because if you are not in one, you need to start one. The key to who is in your circle is whom do you trust. There are four fundamental principles of a sound, healthy economy: #1. Sound currency #2. Transparency of shared, i.e., public, money and privacy of individual money #3. Equity financing instead of debt. Debt equals war and equity equals peace #4. Vote with your money. Do not feed the people who are killing you or otherwise you will die. — …when you align financial stuff with people’s basic dreams and hopes, society gets smarter and smarter and smarter.’

  44. @wh
Er… china! NO! it’s new to me… maybe he thought china and america could be antidotes to each other… dunno… but I will dig out the cd and post the mp3 of ‘words of advice for young people’ later!!!

  45. Stave the beast: ‘We will simply walk away from the system.’

‘A revolution involves five crucial elements: (1) a new view of sovereignty; (2) a new view of authority; (3) a new view of law; (4) a new view of sanctions; (5) a new view of the future. Any revolution that does not involve all five is more of a coup than a revolution: a substitution of new rulers for old, not a change in the system. — The battles for the hearts and minds of men are being fought today in all five areas. Points three through five are still up for grabs. These are intensely ethical issues. They are intensely religious. They will not be decided by technology. There is no group and no worldview that has a clear advantage in these three areas. But the outcome of the battle over points one and two is going to be decided in terms of digits: the digits of the Internet and the digits known as money. In both areas, the existing Establishments of the world are under attack. I am convinced they are going to lose.’

Digits and Revolution by Gary North
    http://www.lewrockwell.com/north/north786.html

  46. @Supergeek

I found it. The actual quote is:
“If there is any political move that I would advocate it would be an alliance between America and Red China, if they’d have us.”

He said that in 1961. Here’s the link.
    http://www.deepleafproductions.com/wilsonlibrary/texts/wsb-inter.html

The quote is about mid page. I read this quote many years ago and now, with China such a major player, I think of it often. I would like know what he was thinking. The interviewer didn’t follow it up that I can tell and I can find no other mention of this in his writings.

  47. @Danny

Never seen the move “American Psycho” – gonna watch it. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0144084/

Think Christian Bale made a very impacting performance in “The Prestige”. Nice detail, David Bowie plays Nicolas Tesla. What an honor and perfectly fitted the excentic character of Tesla. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0482571/ Must See!

That’s a nice piece — even includes a subtle tribute to Max, by use of the Icelandic geyser metaphor. :)

Freedom and Rights at Colombian Public Universities
    http://www.tlaxcala.es/detail_artistes.asp?lg=&reference=359
“If you are a student, a teacher or simply interested in knowing the truth of what is really happening at the Public University in Colombia, please help us to distribute this website worldwide, among your fellow students, your neighborhood, or your friends.”

    Background:
    Colombia’s Classroom Wars
    http://www.ei-ie.org/en/news/show.php?id=1099&theme=rights&country=colombia
“…between 1999 and 2005, there were 1,174 trade unionists reported killed throughout the world. Of those, 816 were Colombian.

“What is less well known is that more than half — 416 of them – were teachers or education workers, Novelli reports. The vast majority of these assassinations are attributed to right-wing paramilitary organizations with links to the Colombian state. Virtually all of the perpetrators have committed their crimes with impunity.”

Public Universities Under Attack in Colombia:

Similar killings of teacher-trade unionists have happened in Honduras since their US approved coup.

  52. @Majestic … Addicted to Money

Still on part 1 .. but I wish they wouldn’t keep playing those music clips in between and as background noise … it makes it too “snake-oily” for my liking , i.e. commercial = for J6P’ers , to keep them listening !
The message may be good, but I do not like that style.

Still , a good video so far.

For me, I believe it succeeds in this aim. (Hence my reccomendation). It’s also got a different take that we aren’t always finding in the mainstream media.

I hope you eventually find it to be a good use of your time despite your qualms. :-)

Skepticism is part of the scientific process, I find that in general you learn more about your own position when challenged and reviewing other opinions.. These emails and docs only expose the integrity of the process. When skepticism is used as a pejorative the scientific process is hijacked.

Now I know having a global currency is one more step towards possible regional governments, but his arguments for a global reserve seem like a way of possible limitations on the military complex and their ever -longing thirst for war expansion and funding. I would just like you hear your opinion on the article or about having a new global reserve currency that doesn’t benefit one country in particular able to fund themselves to no limit. (US).”

You would have a much better idea of the science/history scams; there’s so much evidence in India that can’t be wiped out so easily. When Clinton began bombing Iraq, he targeted what seemed like empty desert; turns out the target was the ruins of an ancient city. You can guess why.
In Egypt, they sometimes let stuff slip through into the museums, like aeronautic components machined with sophisticated ultrasonic tools.

  120. Yeah, the river alone could not create the Grand canyon. I was just there and there are no mountains on the sides and the land is exactly the same height on the other side. The landscape is entirely flat at rim level as if was pulled apart, no upheaval. The other thing is that it has dead end valleys, water erosion could not do that. I would not discount some water erosion but not the majority of the puzzle. When I was there the story was a much greater flowing river than today fed by Glaciers, that probably occurred but Glaciers and water will form and flow in an existing crack in the ground. Interesting theory.

    http://canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/17361

The leaked documents from the East Anglian CRU (Climatic Research Unit ) have proved beyond the shadow of a doubt, that the “global warming” scam was perpetrated with criminal intent to defraud the public of massive amounts of money, advance an ideological agenda, and make the criminals involved, quite wealthy. All at our expense.

There are only around two dozen individuals directly involved in the criminal fraud committed by the climatology “scientists.” These people, or as Lord Monckton calls them—idiots, crooks, and criminals—should be tried in an international court, for crimes against humanity.

I strongly urge you to watch the interview that Alex Jones had with Lord Monckton on November 27, in order to understand just how evil, and amoral, these individuals are.

Please check it out for yourselves as I have. It is simply NOT TRUE. I don’t know how Max doesn’t intuitively know that. Makes me wonder.

Walmart’s Market cap is about 211 billion US.

I stopped tallying Gold Miner Market caps after reaching 341 billion US. I didn’t count debentures, warrants, North American companies below 900 million in market cap, and only counted 6 companies not listed in North America. It was about 2:30 am, I had sleep to catch.

  178. @Gordo
    “anyone that matters?”
what the hell does that mean?

  179. Yes Adam C, instead of Al Gore telling us “The Scientific debate is over”. If the debate/inquiry has stopped it is no longer science. And I doubt the science experiments Stacy did in school involved clouds let alone a complete biosphere, no offense Stacy.

I keep seeing confusion between global warming, climate change, and the carbon market. They aren’t all the same thing. The carbon market is based on the assumption that climate change is a real threat that must be promptly addressed specifically through controlling carbon. It is a highly specific argument that is not actually being spoken of in this specific manner nor argued on the basis of science (which it purports to be guided by). Instead you’re either in support of the creation of a carbon market or you’re a denialist.

I remember a similar tact used after Sept 11th. You either believed an oxygen starved fire and highly asymmetrical structural damage can change the laws of physics so that floors start falling BEFORE floors above them hit them such that a building can collapse at near free-fall speed with relative symmetry. (Rather than the inertia of the structure below sending opposing energy into the mass above as it contacts floor by floor by floor thus significantly slowing the collapse well below free-fall speed). Or you’re a conspiracy theorist.

I have a conspiracy theory. The carbon market will be the largest racket in human history. It will empower criminals to have competition selectively crushed by enforcement, or pushed down to pennies on the dollar by the threat of such, loan cheaply to their friends’ to cover compliance costs where need be, cheat and lie left and right, shift even more wealth from “developed” nations to the under-developed nations which is code for nations that allow for freer exploitation, and deny the poor access to responsible energy like firewood in favor of irresponsible energy like nuclear.(read old fithy)

  180. Bonn, I can’t even follow your logic. I used data from mid and late last week because I didn’t want to collect it all again. And if the truth is a non-issue for you, don’t correct people. It is a highly misleading stat. It cleverly avoids a hundred billion in other paper related to gold mining as well. It’s what I’d expect from a used car salesman.

  181. @ Daniel S
Oks you win . But if u’ve been here long Enough you woulda heard me rant “Gold is a 6000 year old Scam”
So whenever its an issue on Gold and i do respond .If i do it normally means “Plz ignore my comments” ;-)
Cause I dont belive in Gold. Truly well thats my opnion.
I would rather be in Steel/Copper/Silica etc

  182. Don’t forget NZ’s :

    http://www.nzonscreen.com/title/gliding-on-1981/overview

In an age before Rogernomics, well before The Office, there was the afternoon tea fund, Golden Kiwi, and four o’clock closing: welcome to the early 80s world of the New Zealand Public Service. Gliding On (1981 – 1985) was the first locally-made sitcom to become a bona-fide classic. Inspired by Roger Hall’s hit play Glide Time, the award-winning series satirised a paper-pushing working life familiar to many Kiwis. This episode features Beryl’s non-smoking campaign, Jim’s efforts to kick the habit, office sexual innuendo and a much-debated fire drill. “Morning Jim!”

    ============

Sadly, in the totally beyond totally corrupt collapsed American Imperialist regime this show has never been run.

Canada has not seen it either.

Sadly, I don’t ever think the show will ever be seen in the US … not so much because the US is for all practical purposes the greatest enemy the NZ Laviathon has ever had … but because it is not about young females in heat like Hallo Holly…

  183. And Even if Climate change is being caused by human activity
Going by my 6th sense 20 % of the worlds population has 80 % of the worlds wealth .
So using that Premise those 20 % contribute the most of the so called “Carbon Footprint”
Personally I have been travelling on an average 3 Km/per day for the last year and a half
    ;-)

  184. oops wrong thread :-)

  185. “@mep
just going through the older comments… “off their rockers” doesn’t even come close!!!”

It seems to me that some who pretend an open mind are really stuck to the wall with superglue.

  186. If you know what I mean.
    ;)

  187. @Chalcie:
What is needed is … Epistemological Self-Consciousness.

Epistemological knowledge is a standard supported by the church, no?

  188. It’s interesting that the term derives support in solids when the world is proven to be made up of shifting atoms.

The self-consciousness borne of this “knowing” is not inherent to human but taught through constructs, no?

Or is there some metaphysical abra-ca-dabra quality to human that I’m not familiar with?

  189. Not how, that.

    What?

    That. Believe that?

    How?

    That’s not my problem.

    What?

How. You believe this this and that. Don’t worry about how.

    When?

    Well, now.

    Why?

NOT WHY! That! It’s a mystery! Just believe it and you’ll be happy.

    O.

  190. @snoot
I think it means existentialism is a failure.

  191. @snoot
I think it means self responsibility.

  192. @Chalcie:
The choice is never or but sometimes or maybe.

Yes, I agree wholehearted with your ‘personal responsibility’ take. Hopefully we get to decide just what that means by our own selves as well.

Thanks for introducing me to a new thought today! Epistemological Self-Consciousness! Is that like, I had an epiphany, or what? Like the V8 commercial?

    Nice advent wreath!

  193. @Majestic

thanks for the archive.org tip. grabbed all 3 episodes of the show =D

  194. This is what I meant by an epi-self-con epiphany:
