  @frances snoot – it’s hard to tell; depends on which power is gaining the upper hand and what promises are being made; European monetary union wouldn’t have happened without the Gemans, so you see how much they got to shape the rules and policy; the equivalent of the Germans will be Abu Dhabi and Qatar who have large savings pools and don’t seem to have that penchant for wild speculation and topless women (at least not while outside the Riviera, ahem); so I would watch to see what Abu Dhabi and Qatar decide

  Yes you are right .. the German Politician Kohl hoodwinked the German people for the sake of his career. Bundesbank Director Pohl resigned because of their disagreements.
  The French actually were clever … could only gain , not much to lose IMO !
