@frances snoot – it’s hard to tell; depends on which power is gaining the upper hand and what promises are being made; European monetary union wouldn’t have happened without the Gemans, so you see how much they got to shape the rules and policy; the equivalent of the Germans will be Abu Dhabi and Qatar who have large savings pools and don’t seem to have that penchant for wild speculation and topless women (at least not while outside the Riviera, ahem); so I would watch to see what Abu Dhabi and Qatar decide

@frances snoot – oil is stable relative to last year because last year you had Goldman heavily manipulating the market; it seems that Goldman, however, destroyed most of the counterparties they would require in order to make money manipulating oil prices again and perhaps they have some gentleman’s agreement not to do it again until the economy is a bit more stable
