  7. @Bonn … If I may ask ?

    …. what are you actually doing in India ?
    …. and how did you end up there ?

  8. There is a Japanese chain that carries stuff similar to the US Woolworths of the previous era — it has outlets in of all places Seattle and Vancouver.

    In the Seattle chain @ Westlake Mall the store was playing chissy music, but with the nip lyrics inserted instead.

    It was actually a relief, as chrissy music in the land of the American Imperialists is just used to torture the population for 36 days of the year.

    If you can take at least 15 years of crissy music and not kill substantial parts of the population — you can withstand the now obligatory water boarding…

  9. Oops forgot:

    Chain at Westlake : DASIO — the Nipponese Woolworths…

    I don’t know the name of the nip song bird, nor am I clear on if it was possible to buy the CD.

  10. @ Phil /Germany

    Just to let you know I have a few friends who basically scrounge and save, work whatever jobs they can get in Europe/US just so they can visit India once a year. There is something magical about India.

    The best meal I can remember I ever had was in Mumbai, so I concur with Doctor Phil..

    @Max

    Great rant on ‘pain’. People chose leaders to avoid it but leaders these days only look to control, not to protect or serve.

    @Phil

    I believe in the US you can have a patent application granted even though your idea has been in the public domain for some time. I was really surprised what they managed to patent their homepage. The states are IP landgrabbers..

  34. But ofc if ya try n peddle it ya’ll get fu@ked

  36. California Doctor

    Phil/Germany – GE throws libel case against UK doctor.

    Phil,
    It’s the ultimate example of the pimpocracy and kleptocracy when the government begins supporting corporations that profit at the cost of patient’s lives.
    Food, water, and medicine.
    Take your pick.
    You can find corporations that throw around weight and money politically in order to carve out their corporate existance.
    GE, Monsanto, Exxon, shall we name more?

    Free speech is a pre-requisite of medical opinion. Libel and slander accusations destroy the doctor’s credibility.

    Any company engaging in this kind of corporate cowardice deserves to be broken up.

    Shall we look at the cases involving Citibank, Wells Fargo, WAMU, JPMC, etc etc?

    The too big to fail corporation is just that… Too Big and Fail.

  37. California Doctor

    @Mother Earth-
    The intellectual property laws in the US are too broad.
    The US gov’t permits someone to own the patent WITHOUT a functioning device or process.

  38. Can someone explain to me the Brit’s allegiance to uber idiot Robbie Williams?

    that no- talent hack has been on the boob tube longer than most one hit wonders. just who does he sleep with to keep his “career” reinvigorated?

    i don’t get it.

  39. Michael Le Couteur MSCD, ret'd

    X-mas viewing list this year. No internet or cable for the day and just what I would consider the best of X-mas viewing. A Christmas Story, Miracle on 34th Street(original), It’s a Wonderful Life, Charlie Brown Christmas, How The Grinch Stole Christmas (not the horrific Jim Carey version), The Santa Clause, Scrooged, Home Alone and finally The Long Kiss Goodbye with Samuel Jackson and Geena Davis. It takes place during X-mas and is a good Conspiracy movie.

    Ummmm, did anyone else sense a context shift this weekend?

  40. Mike/Liverpool

    @Bonn. What is the Indian attitude towards Pot? Is it demonized as it is here in the West?

    If the attitude is good, then it would be a viable tourist thingh n’est ce pas. Medical tourism and Pot tourism. Oh, the money that would flow.

  42. Merry Christmas- It maybe our last horrah for ape shit consumerism ever again at this time of year.

  50. If this is a recovery, I’d hate to see what a double dip looks like.

    Utility Bill Is One More Casualty of Recession

    The recession has accentuated what was already a growing home-energy challenge for low-income and many middle-class households across the nation. Rising numbers have had their utilities shut off, causing desperate scrambles to pay arrears and penalties to get them restored.

    In 2009, some 31,000 households in Rhode Island will have their utilities shut off, and the effort to juggle energy bills and mortgages is helping push some homeowners into foreclosure, said Henry Shelton, director of the George Wiley Center, a consumer advocacy group here. (Here, as in many states, utilities may not disconnect the poor in the winter.)
