Stacy Summary: Santa visit anyone last night? Or have you all been too naughty? What do you do on this day? Lots of food? Presents? Nothing? Or was it last night you celebrated?
Max and I had a verrrrry festive dinner last night with two Russians, two Chinese and one French person. And some Polish vodka was had between courses (by the Russians anyway). There was quite a bit of singing . . . again, by the two Russians. They were awesome.
We celebrate in a unique/weird way. I have 2 sons and 2 step-sons. One year we celebrate Xmas with the kids and the next the kids celebrate Xmas with their other parents. This year they are at the other parents, so tonight will be our Christmas Eve.
We surround ourselves with family and friends and have a huge dinner planned for this evening. We will be having deep-fried turkey with all the “fixins” and sticky toffee pudding for desert.
Dining at the museum tonight (http://tinyurl.com/yg2gnrl ).
Good wine and historic ingredients (potatoes they don’t sell anymore and jams of fruits that have gone almost extinct). Good place for Max to do a presentation. by the way.
I had a girlfriend in Paris a long time ago (1995)..We had champagne in the fridge and dinners with creative parisiens, was a lot of fun
Great looking suit, Max. I hope you had curly=toed boots to go with the hat. You should take the Connecticut Yankee to that cafe in Paris so you can listen to the guns of the banksters coming into town, ala Casa Blanca.
Anyway, to job, as always. Look forward to another year of even more crazy stuff with you guys and the financial bums.
had 40 people here last night aged 1-70. bird, booze and lots of laughs. i don’t mention the economy around my family anymore. my mother couldn’t make it. she’s the only one that senses something wrong. something to do with her ww2 days. have fun while you can.
Happy Christmas, Joyeux Noel, Feliz Navidad. Give us Peace each and every one- the works with all the trimmings. Tortillas with blackberries and honey for breakfast. All good things!

I think we’re gonna see a “dead cats bounce” in the first quarter of 2010 with at the same time sliding dollar on the growing concern about the national debt and the cost of all the stimulus.
So, till March – April next year there will be a “recovery mood” which will slowly be taken over by reality in which deleveraging still is going on and show the real face of this depression with no new jobs but rising unemployment, more banks and businesses going belly up and tight expensive money for consumers and businesses.
Maybe there is still some consumer buying power out there but this will be slowly but gradually eaten away by a declining dollar and frozen or even declining wages. The problem for the U.S. is that things will get extra expensive if the economical pick up else were in the world goes faster, like China for instance, and drives up commodity prices already.
2010 will be the U.S. debt concern year with the dollar still sliding and gold will at least go to $2000,- at the end of the year.
2011 will be the big crises year cause bank debts no longer can be hidden and are forced to deleverage. They waited for this till a ultra dollar low record which will have arrived around this time. Even negotiated deals on debt, like in Dubai have to be renegotiated again cause they proved to be based on much too optimistic economical growth calculations. Governments ultimately have to raise taxes with not much more going on in the economy which will be bugged down severely.
At this time the government is in desperate need of a distraction from the crises which probably will be an other war for which the gearing up started in December 2010.
Merry X-mas again to everyone!! Thanks Stacy & Max & everyone who posts this good stuff!! Being able to have access to this information although sad is also such a relief during these tough times. So again thanks, I appreciate it very much.
one llitte wish for christmas is that any of you guys who hasn’t seen this yet humour me and check it out, it’s only 1:33 min

We get together w/ my parents, sisters, and sisters’ families on Christmas Eve or Christmas day–depending on everyone’s work schedules. My dad always gets 10 lbs of beef and we do beef on weck as well as have a couple of Polish side dishes and then whatever else people bring. Church used to be a big thing, too, but nobody goes anymore. I usually have a mini-breakdown on Christmas because I miss my paternal grandparents terribly on the holidays, but so far so good. Still have to get out to their graves and light candles for them.
We got together yesterday and it was total overkill w/ the gifts all around. My nephews got so much that it was just shameful. My mom grew up very poor, and brother-in-law’s family came here from Hong Kong when he was 2 . . . his family was dirt poor for a long time, so I think that’s partly why at least those 2 feel the need to buy so many gifts for everyone.
Santa brought me some cool stuff–got an industrial-grade french-fry cutter that I’m very psyched about. (I’m all about bypassing food and basic products & making as much stuff as I possibly can on my own lately.)
Still gotta head out-of-state and get together w/ the in-laws. Then it’ll be all over.
Merry Xmas to y’all. Later on, after I tap into my bounty o’ holiday booze, I’ll be back to see what kinds of fun stuff people are posting.
Oh, I hear that Delphi is suing GM and the United States government. Have to get more of the details, but my aunt worked for Delphi & I guess that the workers found out that in some of the backroom deals between GM and the government, a deal was made to dump the health insurance benefits and pensions of workers. (My aunt lost 70% of her pension.) Don’t know if the government insisted on slashing benefits and pensions before giving GM bailout $ or what. Will post more when I know.
@ gb – I’ve read articles that link autism to atrazine in the water supply. Don’t know if it’s true or what’s causing it but all kinds of diseases and allergies are up for kids. Could be a combo of bad water and genetically-modified foods?
“Company credit profiles are more robust in Europe and in Asia, whereas in the U.S. people are more sanguine about the corporate outlook.”
Defaults among the 6,200 companies rated by Standard & Poor’s climbed to 262 this year, the highest since data compilation began in 1981, the New York-based risk assessor said in a Dec. 18 report. Almost three-quarters of the defaulters were in the U.S., S&P said
U.S. equities are riskier than those in Europe or Asia because the potential for company defaults in the world’s largest economy is trumping concerns about the debts of Greece and Dubai, according to Standard Chartered Plc.
“There’s still a lot of fear around commercial real estate and the banking sector,” according to Chander. U.S. stock volatility will probably remain higher than in other regions next year because “that’s where the credit crisis started and investors there have more to be concerned about,” he said.
A “tsunami” of capital will flow into Asia in 2010, attracted by China’s economic growth and low U.S. interest rates, Nomura Holdings Inc. said last week. The region will lead the global recovery, the Paris-based Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development said Nov. 19.
Crummy Christmas for me. Road rager drove his vehicle/weapon over my foot, breaking two bones, and crushing a third into a pile of chips. Four flights of stairs to my house from the street, so I am stuck here, and the weed guy doesn’t do Christmas Eve deliveries. I sure hope the bast*rd is insured.

@mep re:water and food. Have you seen the NYTimes series on the water supply? Amazing the amount of unregulated chemicals in the water supply. Same is true for air. Don’t even start me on the food supply. Under Republicans all regulatory agencies took a long walk and it seems like they’re just returning to their desks.

UPDATE: U.S. promises unlimited financial assistance to Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac http://tinyurl.com/yfaonkd
The Obama administration pledged Thursday to provide unlimited financial assistance to mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, an eleventh-hour move that allows the government to exceed the current $400 billion cap on emergency aid without seeking permission from a bailout-weary Congress.
Hi everyone.
Hope you had a good hrissy.
I usually travel interstate to see my parents for Christmas for Chrissy. Not this year, Just me, my wife and sister. I cooked lamb on the BBBQ and roast veigies. Thne traveelled to my sisiter bptbfrinds place for more madness and fun. More madness than fun
I’ll catch my folk next week when I visit. Nice relaxing day really. Now to do nothing for a week, oh maybe change some ‘too small’ presents. Am I getting bigger?
msg aspartame and corn syrup are all really awful. corn syrup promotes diabetese keeps you hungry is bad for the liver and half of it contains mercury. forget about whatever the hell is in the vaccines and why little kids even infants are getting so many.
@ Shrapnel – Cool. At least you have something to help dull the pain until you can some weed. Hope the reject who ran your foot over is ready to help pay for your medical expenses.
@ Teresa – Yes, I saw it when it came out and it was horrifying. I imagine it’s only going to get worse as states go bankrupt and cut corners even more. I wonder if it’s possible for ordinary citizens to file a class-action lawsuit against the federal government for neglecting the public’s welfare in favor of appointing industry lobbyists to key positions in the FDA, USDA, EPA, etc.?
@ gb – Indeed. Type 2 diabetes used to be just an affliction of adults. Now, estimates are that 1 out of every 3 Americans born after 2000 will become diabetic (it’s 1 out of 2 for minorities).
@ gb – . . . and you know that the pharmaceutical and health insurance industries just love that so many of us are getting sick from our food. Profits, profits, profits for all!!
The question should be “what is MISSING from our daily diet”?
The mass produced food that most Americans find “comforting” may not be as nutritious as needed.
In particular, clear and convincing medical evidence exists to implicate certain nutrients to brain function.
It is obvious that autism and ADHD in the brain, certain allergies, and certain endocrine disorders link to certain nutrients missing from the diets in certain regions of the nation.
@mep That most recent New York Times series piece was appalling, I agree. As far as a class action law suit, I know the American Lung Association has already put a number on the annual deaths in California attributed to air pollution, so it seems like some of the work has already been done.

@ Shrapnel –
That’s terrible. Do you have some pain killers at least?
Celebrated in the general company of non-Christians at a very raucous and busy Chinese restaurant. Scorpions for everyone!
i do NOT recommend planning an entire meal around recipes you haven’t tried yet, not one of them have i made before, and i am exhausted! this from a professional cook for 20 yrs…. sad isn’t it? merry christmas everyone
@Mep: Percocet & Ibuprofen lets me sleep. Doc says I will need painkiller for weeks, three months on crutches, and seven years of daily yoga comes to an abrupt halt – permanently.

Lots a Christmas Joy everyone.
Oh, promise I am not drunk, typing is awful today.
Who cares
My seven year old daughter gave me a Lightning Bolt CD for xmas… yeeeeeeesssssssssss!
about food
msg aspartame and corn syrup are all really awful. corn syrup promotes diabetese keeps you hungry is bad for the liver and half of it contains mercury. forget about whatever the hell is in the vaccines and why little kids even infants are getting so many.
@GB- what’s in the food?
Merry Christmas everyone
@mep That most recent New York Times series piece was appalling, I agree. As far as a class action law suit, I know the American Lung Association has already put a number on the annual deaths in California attributed to air pollution, so it seems like some of the work has already been done.
