Stacy Summary: Apparently, enough computer algorithms believe that all those losing their unemployment benefits and thus falling off the unemployment rolls and thus causing the unemployment rate to ‘contract’ is positive news that trumps the negative of the real contraction in services. By next year this time many millions more will have lost their unemployment benefits so it should get really, really ‘good.’ Yeeha! Casinos are fun!!

Stacy Summary: h/t @Mother Earth. This is the craziest story I have read in a long time; these guys sure ‘get’ what the NYSE is all about. How many of the listed companies on the NYSE or FTSE are just taking natural resources from other nations; sure one dictator may have signed a contract with them . . . but it is still a hostage / ransom situation.
“Four months ago, during the monsoon rains, we decided to set up this stock exchange. We started with 15 ‘maritime companies’ and now we are hosting 72. Ten of them have so far been successful at hijacking,” Mohammed said.
“The shares are open to all and everybody can take part, whether personally at sea or on land by providing cash, weapons or useful materials … we’ve made piracy a community activity.”

Stacy Summary: The Military-Industrial racket is a much easier one it seems than the Finance-Industrial racket. The threat to blow up economy worked once, I don’t get the sense that it would work so easily again. An existential threat from far off countries with a tiny fraction of your own military power works over and over and over and over and over again. And the trillions that have gone missing in the sands of Iraq and the mountains of Afghanistan are just as staggering as the riches lost to Wall Street. But nary a peep. At least with the insane battle against deflation, we know what victory looks like and that is inflation.
