Where was I last nigt ? Just kidding. Ground hog day. That’s the problem with the new year. The problems haven’t gone away and the solutions, except buying gold, silver and oil, are as cryptic and imprecises as last year. Get rid of big government, big business, the Pentagon, make peace and love and transform the opium fields in wheat fields. One is allowed to dream in 2010.
Great show. I agree about the info being a problem for some people. I was doing far better when I started out investing, despite the crash, and eventually had to take a bullion ETF position as a hedge (really quitting) and then quit investing altogether (closed my account) because it was too much for me to handle. I keep my head in the game as best I can, but I’ve had to withdraw some of my actions, and not take some things as real that are.
For people who lack a social circle, social skills, reasonably good health, their survivability comes seriously into question in a societal collapse situation. Their ability to plan and respond is very limited, so it’s overwhelming. On the one hand they’re struggling to pay their bills and put food on the table, and on the other they’re trying to unravel the lies they’ve been steeped in to form a realistic world-view, and then somehow figure out how to cope with collapse or be a part of an as yet leaderless solution. For poor people with limited means, it’s not academic. They’re being asked to contemplate their likely deaths.
I’ve already been focusing on societal issues since I was in elementary school in a hell hole of a small town that could pass of a medieval holdout. I’ve been threatened with homelessness for all of my adult life. So these issues I think I have a responsibility to learn about and act on, but it can be overwhelming. I don’t even think of myself surviving typically, but instead of enhancing the survivability of others.
Try a little bit of christian and family values. We will to go back to christian values and get rid of the social darwinists working in finance and the government. Don’t believe in the suvival of the fittest. Good for Galapagos iguanas but real bad policy for a country. Humans are surprisingly resilient. They also call it french and in russian I think “Système D” (like débrouillardise. se démerder). When things stop working, people use the black market and barter. Necessity is the mother of all invention. Have a idea, Start exchanging some of your services with gold and silver.
Abuse is physical, verbal, emotional, sexual. Or, all at the same time.
30% of the Stateside population has some form of PTSD.
There are many “reputable” therapists (both in and outside of the VA) who say PTSD is a joke.
Why is it that the MSM ALWAYS says “sexual abuse” instead of calling it rape (which is exactly what it is)? I know many rape survivors (both women and men). And to always do that is almost like getting raped all over again.
From personal experience, one of the best things to do is:
Face your abuse head on (as safely as you can).
Decide what’s the best way to make safe (and healthy ovrerall) changes.
And then, implement them. These can be everything from moving to a new job to going overseas (if no one in the States will give you health care).
I know of many people who’ve done it. It can mean possibly changing careers (to meet visa requirements). And even cutting off all contact with the abuser(s).
Why don’t all abuse survivors instantly change? Because everybody’s dealing with different situations and rates of healing. A nice package fits into a MSM “special expose”. But in realtiy, no.
Good show Max and Stacey. Dr. Levine hits the spot with the psycho pharmaceutical complex – nothing like regular doses of Prozac to numb sensitivity to the obvious lies perpetuated by the US media conglomerates. This, of course makes the depression worse, and the sufferer even further divorced from reality. Sitting in a circle with a few friends, having a chat and sharing a joint is the best way to achieve mental health.
To jump back a bit to the Keiser Report discussing unions: What kind of language, I wonder, should be used to describe the process by which American workers turn against themselves and their country by assuming an anti-union stance? To me at least, there is an element of abuse in there. Self-stigmatization projected outwards, maybe? I recognize the power of corporate media and corporate propagandists in government, but seriously, I have a hard time understanding why such a large segment of the population is totally against their fellows being able to retain their purchasing power and live a decent life. Doesn’t it at some point translate into those people believing that they, themselves, are undeserving of earning a decent wage? Or could it be just that the unionized labor force is so slight now that others are jealous of unionized workers and in an era of deprivation, they wish to see union workers equally (if not moreso) deprived? Is it now economic insecurity loves company instead of the generalized misery loves company? I wonder.
One thing I’m sure of is that the percentage of people in the US who understand how much the working/middle class in general has been battered since the 70s is very, very small. So maybe part of the problem lies in the majority of the country still believing that upward mobility is just as possible as it was post- WW2, and still believing that the pathway to achieving the American dream is an open channel rather than a (fore)closed one?
Your comment at the end of the show…….no heroes in American society….smoking our own belly button lint….dead on. Where ARE all the “Chuck Yeagers”? I can’t think of a single person that exemplifies honesty, respect and hard work in today’s mainstream. They DO exist….but the media has replaced them with….as you say….lint.
On another note, murder rates in San Francisco, New York, and Sacramento have interestingly dropped to multi decade lows in 2009. I attribute it to the massive reduction in money velocity and deflation. What are your thoughts?
When you first mentioned Bruce Levine and his ideas about being traumtized and needing morale more than just info on what shold be done I went and got his book on the Depresson Epidemic (as I’m fighting it personally too).
It is the more straightforwad practical useful psych book I’ve ever read. It truly demystifies and gets to the point of things. Depth psychology and macroeconomics have their theoretical place, but there’s nothing like the real nitty gritty.
I hope this comment boosts your morale and Levine’s too.
I suggest watching “Century of the Self” to start out the New Year. Even if you’ve seen it before, it would be worth watching again. This is a 4 part documentary (4 hours) about the Public Relations industry, and how it manipulates peoples desires to create false demands.
And it shows how this same technique was then applied to Politics to sell candidates to the public. The latest example is of course Barack Obama’s false Hope and Change PR campaign.
BTW, I thought today’s guest was hokum. As you will see from watching “Century of the Self”, Freud was a Fraud. In general psychology is the modern equivalent of voodoo. Yes there are insights here or there, but the fact is that psychiatrists have no idea how the human mind actually works.
It wouldn’t surprise me if the BB’s weren’t at the top. I think it’s going to surprise those who think that they’re at the top, that their ‘leader’ Lucifer, is going to not only disassociate himself from them on the Day of Judgement, but laugh at how easily they were misled into murdering and pillaging their own kind as they get their one way ticket to H***. That’s when they’ll find out that he hates them along with the rest of humanity and got a kick out of watching them fall for his tricks. Remember what you posted earlier about the Arch Deceiver?
IMO, it’s the only thing that can explain a ‘plan’ that involves killing 90% of mankind! It’s a ridiculous plan that harms them as well! And they think that their smarter than everyone else!
Max Keiser I cannot thank you enough. Your work is excellent may it never stop. I fully agree with your views on Goldman Sachs and Alex Jones and the sheepishness of the American people in our corporatacracy. I am starting to get involved after trading for years and seeing GS’s criminal activities by setting up my first website http://www.plutocracyslayer.com/home.html . I will add a link to your website soon. LETS FIGHT TOGETHER! STRENGTH AND HONOR!!
In a way, it was funny when Cramer made his infamous “everybody does insider trading” comment on his On the Street site. He goes on for how many minutes on this.
Then, when word gets out what does he do? Oh, I didn’t say that. Yes you did. You said it on YOUR website. How could you not comprehend that posting it would mean that yes the rest of the ______ing world would see it! But, the SEC is far too busy to go after some small time cable TV guy.
Legally, CNBC is covering themselves with their “disclaimer” that they run on every Cramer show. But also, when did Cramer lose his trader’s license?
@ Mishopshno – Another book I’d highly recommend: Being Mentally Ill. It’s not a solutions-based kind of book, but rather a well-grounded theoretical piece on labeling and how it creates mental illness and mental patients.
What are your thoughts on government unions? I’ll raise my hand to say that a union’s existence can exploit workers, hurt customers (and taxpayers) and create a hostile workplace. There is a fine balance – a metaphorical waltz – that is required to make it work – an ability to see the forest above the trees.
Perhaps this is why businesses should stay small – the more people involved, the greater the distance in realities, the more a negative view takes over each side. It also begs the question as to how people as individuals, unions and corporations define entitlements – when is it too little? when is it too much?
@Sacramento Joe
Hmmm…I think they are fudging the numbers in how they define “murders” because I’m not seeing a drop in violence or the conditions that led to several murderous years in SF. Perhaps response teams are saving the victims more readily? I see a lot of cities reporting the same thing….
@ F Hope
‘psychiatrists have no idea how the human mind actually works’
Thank You!
Just look how psychs. prescribe drugs to children, try this and tell me how you feel? Trial and error on your kids, nice.
I hear electro-shock is making a come back.
Adam Curtis’ Century of Self is a must see.
Seems Freud himself had quite a traumatic life, anyone ever psycho-analyze his crazy ass. That bank panic in Austria left him pennyless. He blamed the masses, not the banks.
Or could it be just that the unionized labor force is so slight now that others are jealous of unionized workers and in an era of deprivation, they wish to see union workers equally (if not moreso) deprived?
Whenever I see the issue raised it’s been in comparison with others, so I think it’s deliberately used to trigger envy and resentment. divide et impera; a wedge issue

@ Max,
Try to let the guests speak a little more, more open questions, or just ask them to expand on the interesting points they’ve made — especially his last answer. We already know you think.
Alex Jones’ excursions into paranoid fantasy would only serve to confuse and demoralise.

Re: Peter Sutherland
Thats about as much as I know too.
Re: Gold & silver coins
I’m in the same boat. Its very difficult to get bullion coins here in Ireland, if at all. I’m sure you are aware of goldcore.com based in Dublin, but have a minimum order of €7,000. You might ask @The DorkOf Cork about that.
I don’t have that kind of cash so I try to buy small amounts when I can afford it. Theres one bullion shop started alright in Cork but it has very limited stock.
Please explain where you get yours in London?
Max, have you been hanging out with (Mathew Lesko?)
Good enthusiasm. I haven’t missed any programs, hope youre wrong, and I hope youre right, either way it’s better than the alternatives. IE: benign neglect and torpor.
The dream of owning a home in Oz is just that, a dream ,that will turn into a nightmare for many loaded with debt.
The Gov stimulas was the signal to get out of the market ,as those who had a house to SELL, were the true beneficiaries of the Gov stimulas.
Anyway, I really wanted to comment on Dr B Levine.
I read his artical and sent it to ” favourites “.
quote….Can anything be done to turn this around?
When people get caught up in humiliating abuse syndromes, more truths about their oppressive humiliations don’t set them free. What sets them free is morale.
What gives people morale? Encouragement. Small victories. Models of courageous behaviors. And anything that helps them break out of the vicious cycle of pain, shut down, immobilization, shame over immobilization, more pain, and more shut down.
and….An elitist who has never been broken by his or her circumstances does not know that people who have become demoralized do not need analyses and pontifications. Rather the immobilized need a shot of morale.
I totally agree.
Encourage someone today, and keep on encouraging them as time passes ,……results will come,….. on an individual basis.
As regards the macro scale of this abuse in society, what works for the individual will work for the majority. Once again it becomes an issue of implementation of morale, and a exit of big pharma from the mental health sector.
Personally, I would much prefer to know how and why I’m being abused. I think Americans who are still chasing the Vanity Fair lifestyle, and having trouble living up to it’s standards; the Cable TV crowd, have a much harder time coping with the uncertainty we face. I feel better knowing where the blows are coming from, who’s throwing them, and why. Even if that means looking up and risking getting hit in the face.
Oppositional Defiance Disorder?
So that’s what Karl (what subpoena?) Rove,

I recommend everyone take psilocybin mushrooms at some point in their lives. They really help you see things clearly. Just because you don’t see tanks in the street doesn’t mean you’re not living under martial law people.

1.5 grams, which looks pretty small, can be amazingly potent. Been wanting to say this on here for a while now. It’s quite easy to understand why these things are against the law, it would ruin the economy.
Just make an observation and extrapolate from there. The fact that people are building, and buying and selling unmanned drones is a very good sign that something is very wrong. It’s bad enough have police airplanes patrolling the city all the time, but to go ahead and turn that over to an unmanned machine and computers? I think I remember seeing a movie where they did that once, they ended up giving massive power over to the machines and things got really really screwy.
And I think you could probably liken computer trading to my UAV example.
I definitely don’t recommend, like some people, to eat mushrooms very frequently. It’s good to get a good clear perspective on things, but if you take too many of them you might become like “that guy” white dude with dread locks, printing out articles from the internet about “ancient nuclear wars” in the middle east tens of thousands of years ago or some other crazy rense-type stuff.
People might say I’m just suffering from paranoia, government listening to you via your phone or computer speakers, thankfully they have pills to cure that these days.
Well ron ron, I’m not really going to worry about it. I think they’re very vulnerable to natural disasters.
Seriously people, if you get the opportunity to get your hands on some psilocybin mushrooms, just buy them. Even if you’re not going to eat them right away, just put them away in the safe.
Vietnam Halts Gold Trading; Global Imbalances Mount
Citing speculation and excessive leverage Vietnam to put an end to gold trading.
January 1 2010
Vietnam has ordered all gold trading floors to close by the end of March, putting an end to a business which turns over $1bn a day but which the government feared was spinning out of control.
“Both the owners of the gold-trading floors and traders are doing their transactions on a fragile foundation that lacks legal, economic and technical frameworks and knowledge,” the government said in a statement.
The order also bans using overseas accounts, but does not affect jewelery or retail gold sales….
…
Bonn: I think it was an inside job, I don’t care if I can’t prove it, it was just suspicious as all hell and all the terror stuff that came after was so hard to swallow. To be honest, it was something I was interested in a lot years ago, but now I think it’s just a waste of time for me to convince other people. It’s much easier to just make the simple suggestion they eat mushrooms, if that person’s got any kind of a chance at all, the rest will probably follow.
Dear Mr. Geithner, Let Me Teach You Something
December 18, 2009 11:57 AM ET advertisement
Dear Tim,
Hearing you on TV Tuesday pointing your finger at American households about “getting educated on the pitfalls of taking on reckless amounts of debt” was beyond laughable!
Actually, it was more sad than funny because the United States government, which you work for and represent, is building the biggest credit bubble in the history of civilization.
Recently a prominent Fed Governor said our total funded and unfunded liabilities add up to nearly $100 trillion. Now that’s a number to get educated about, and so allow me to represent disgusted Americans in this letter.

Frank:
I’m curious, do you mean that there is not any basis to the belief in childhood trauma and the resultant unconscious supression? Do you believe in the unconscious? Do you think all action takes precedent only from current stimuli?
Fraud was a basis for much critical literary analysis as well as a psychoanalyst. Have you read his works?
Here is Freud’s own assessment of the psychology’s role in science:

I don’t do any business with any of the big bailed-out banks (I do use Citizen’s bank), but I’m thinking that it might be fun to post a vid in which I pretend to be closing an account . . . just to help give the movement some momentum and make the banks more nervous about bad PR. (Is that bad of me?)

@ harry_w – I think you’re right. There’s also the issue of political actors associating collective bargaining with collectivism and then making the leap to communism. Anything done as a collective or a group is demeaned, and if it threatens profit-making, is attacked as being communistic.
What is interesting is that a March 2009 Gallup poll showed majority support for making it easier for people to join unions. But when you look at support for unions generally, it has declined by 12 percentage points since 2007! Now, one would think that with all of the bankser rage and anger over the economy and unemployment, union support would be increasing. I mean, I think that the vast majority of Americans value fairness, so the dip is quite surprising–especially since according to the Gallup data, support for unions is at its lowest point since the 30s. I have a hard time believing that the lies about UAW wages and the political posturing around the auto bailouts was enough to drive such a dip in union support.

“If they get this wrong, volatility is going to be through the roof,” said Dan Greenhaus, chief economic strategist at Miller Tabak & Co. LLC in New York. “Investors are over- discounting the difficulty that is coming our way when the Fed begins the process of raising interest rates.”
‘If’ they get it wrong?
Volatility=Thrashonomics
A classic shakedown.
The tail has wagged loose of the dog.
I thought the video was telling. Ron Paul’s refusal to back down and demanding an apology as well as his whole demeanor was quite different from Stein’s reaction to the word “Occupation”. The sentence that sent Stein into an apartheid fit was “We are occupying them”. I do not think Ron Paul used the word “We” to mean the U.S. and Israel. I think Ron meant the U.S. only and, therefore “them” in the sentence refers to the 3 Moslem countries the U.S. is occupying – Iraq, Afghanistan and parts of Pakistan.
But Stein heard “We” to include Israel and I think probably heard “them” to mean only Palestine. Psychiatrists call this inability to determine where “I” ends and “someone else” begins, a psychiatric problem of poor “boundaries”. It’s one of the main underlying dynamics of Domestic Violence and explains why you read in the news about the husband that killed his wife & kids before turning the gun on himself. People with poor “boundaries” also tend to have very weak identities. They define themselves not by what they are and their own intrinsic qualities (male, jew) but what they are not (female, Palestinian, goyim) and therefore they go to extreme degrees to control their victims as the main means of maintaining their own identities (as well as the practical benefits of power over).
I thought the underlying emotion Stein exhibited was panic precisely because Paul was not reacting in a specific way Stein needed him to for his own identity and power purposes. It is the same panic the DV perp exhibits when his wife has left him. I don’t think Stein was so much “slurring” Ron Paul with his anti-Semitic charge as he was trying to control him. I also think Stein was trying to reassure himself that he, Israel & Zionists in general are “right”.

But that’s exactly what I am doing my dear chap. I was just about to say that I am still reflecting 2009 by going through my old posts on FPP – Forum Prison Planet.
I am not an economic expert though I learned to make Physics, Maths and Statistic calculations on the highest High School level which will meet the standards of starting any University level on any chosen specialization on the subjects of Physics, Maths, History, Economics and Geography.
The Historical part together with the Economical are of more importance in reflecting this particular past. My postings on FPP make an historical document in it’s own right. I thought it would be nice to spend some more time on it.
I’ll will be reflecting a lot these coming days while busy with further future plans while fighting the Gov. and getting started in fresh projects which hopefully make my life a little bit less unbearable financially wise speak’n.

“In light of today’s unprecedented financial crisis, they would be abhorred if they actually read Zbigniew Brzezinski’s (co-founder of the Commission with David Rockefeller) statement from his 1971 book, Between Two Ages: America’s Role in the Technetronic Era, which states that, “The nation-state as a fundamental unit of man’s organized life has ceased to be the principal creative force: International banks and multinational corporations are acting and planning in terms that are far in advance of the political concepts of the nation-state.”
Yet, this is exactly what is happening. The global banks and corporations are running circles around the nation state, including the United States. They have no regard for due process, Congress, or the will of the people.” http://www.projectcensored.org/top-stories/articles/22-obamas-trilateral-commission-team/

You know why don’t you & Max go to Iceland, over 40,000 signed a notice NOT TOO give Gordon Brown his money…………..you & Max could cause a Rally, you might break Gordon’s heart (& the BOE).
Always good to see the psychology behind things and I think your guest and yourself did a tremendous job.
As someone who discusses these issues with a lot of people (not in the US) – I believe the words are apathy or frustration. People always ask the question – what can one person do? I always say – that can work itself out after you start at least raising the issue with other people. Not in an angry way – that will/may come later – when people are closer to getting pushed over the edge and not merely standing “on the edge” as you are.
Barry Eichengreen is Professor of Economics and Political Science at the University of California, Berkeley.
Commercialize the SDR
“Overcoming that advantage now would require someone to act as market-maker for private as well as official transactions and subsidize the market in its start-up phase. The obvious someone is the IMF. The Fund could stand ready to buy and sell SDR claims to all comers, private as well as official, at narrow bid/ask spreads competitive with those for dollars.”
Sounds like the editorial backing Lagarde’s proposal for voluntary trading arrangements amongst IMF member utilizing the sdr to create ‘adequate liquidity’.
I don’t think Mr. Eichengreen is “muddleheaded” and he says “howdy” to y’all here on the forum that don’t agree with Snoots.
It’s a wonder Jim Cramer is still on the air. Shame on CNBC for keeping Cramer. The biggest con artisits out there are the people who try to sell you investments. That should be lesson #1 for EVERY investor, especially those ‘Cramericans’.
Don’t agree with you about what? Everyone who cares to look at global monetary issues already knows SDRs are being proposed as an alternative to the $ as an international reserve currency. In that sense, this is old news.
The Eichengreen article (2009-04-27) is, as it states, about the proposal by Zhou Xiaochuan (March 2009) of the People’s Bank of China prior to the G-20 summit (April 2009) that use of IMF SDRs should be extended to replace the $ (or €) as an international reserve currency. As he says:
“Before the crisis, such ideas would have been dismissed out of hand. Even now they won’t materialize overnight. But they are the real implications of Governor Zhou’s remarks.“
The statement by Christine Lagarde to the IMF was made in October 2009. She’s expressing the French position on expanding use of the SDR. That’s effectively supporting the Chinese proposition, which had the support of 131 IMF member states & 77% of voting rights before the US agreed. The French position being:
The general allocation of SDRs should be extended through supplementary mechanisms. …extremely pleased with the 250 billion-US-dollar general allocation of SDRs, supplemented by a special allocation totaling 32 billion US dollars. … also welcomes the commitment by several countries, among them the United States and China, to take part in the voluntary trading arrangements for SDRs. … urges as many countries as possible to agree to such arrangements with the IMF in order to ensure adequate liquidity in the SDR market. At the same time, ways and means for enabling the poorest countries to benefit most effectively from the allocation of SDRs should be explored.
The trouble is no-one wants the $ because no-one believes the US can sustain it’s value relative to other currencies, but no other country wants it’s currency to replace the $ and have the conflicting demands of managing both domestic and international money supply. Hence the Chinese SDR proposition, which has won broad support internationally.
No expansion of SDRs means sticking with the $ (plus €, Y & £…followed by BRIC money) as national reserve currencies, recently bolstered by a return to gold reserves.
That means the problems of the $ remain, which are intimately related to it’s internal economic problems. That includes the potential for a sudden collapse in a crisis if foreign holders fear others might get to the exit before them. That also poses problems for any other economy which might become the venue for that capital flight, which is why others tend to favour the SDR proposition.
So I ask again, what do you suggest? What do “y’all here on the forum that don’t agree with Snoots” actually disagree with?
gotta love Webster Tarpley. Max and Stacy you might consider getting him on the show. He is funny and erudite and way out.
all the rest is madness. So many psychopaths, so little time.Happy New Year to all, gratitude for the endless pile of information and humor and may you enjoy the year in whatever way is possible.
This Levine guy sounds like such a pussy whipped guy, I can hardly listen to him. And look the Gringo people like what is going on in their country, they like these wars in Afghanestan & Iraq, they like their healthcare system, they like everything about them. I do not feel sorry for people who claim to be in abusive relationships at all, they are in it BECAUSE THEY CHOOSE TO BE because they like they are receiving from the other spouse–they just as sick as the abusers and will need help. BTW–spousal abuse is a 50-50 thing and most university studies have proven that, they are not a 99-1 think were women are always the victims like the CRACKPOT FEMINAZIS claim.
Max. Keep your head down your armored transpotion in high flight work oreder .then add top notch body armor. Your still stuck with a face no one can for get. Jokes a side keep up the good work… Friskey
@HarryW:
Actually, I was just following up on some vagrant comment, but that was a rather lucid post you left as a result. Yes, well, as long as we are on the same page, proceed. What are your thoughts on the future? I would assume the switch from dollar to some-other-form-of-reserve (mind you not truly liquid global currency) would be presaged by some rather hard times for every nation held under the Bretton Woods spell for the last few decades. Such a short amount of time, really, and so much damage done.
It seems what I objurgate mostly is the move to fence people off from nature in compounds rather than allowing free and natural flow between animals and people: it seems rather like a new zoo these men in Brussels have planned.
Because that, in my view, leads to profound disfunctionality and unhappiness. We need the world of nature: the world of nature can bally well abide better without human. Must man milk man for all of perpetuality? Why the necessary gloves? What is understandable is the need for restraint; what is unfathomable is the barred cage upon our view of the sky.
The trouble is no-one wants the $ because no-one believes the US can sustain it’s value relative to other currencies,
I disagree here: I think the world order is being transubstantiated to a new register where the deficits brought on by colonial warmongering and the surpluses enabled by slave prostitution of people are being reigned, scooped rather, into the apron of the men who may through rhetoric or force subjugate the world’s people to a uni-standard and steal the world’s reserves (well, it’s there MONEY isn’t it? I mean what would the riches have been without the cooperative genius of Bretton Woods institutions working to siphon profit off blood and pain) for some utopic farcical paradise wrought through mass-starvation, deprivation, war, and plain old poison.
Men are thought to be pests by other men who deem themselves agents of divine retribution.
@MAX -
YOU are terrific!
Don’t you forget that.
The whole discussion by Dr. Levine and Oppositional-Defiant Disorder, mental health professionals, and psychiatry is RIGHT ON TARGET.
The big Pharma industry has helped to define these disorders and set their own market by writing the definitions, guidelines, and then lobby for the regulatory environment.
Doctors who wish to offer independent judgment and objective opinion are smashed by the nexus between the insurance companies and the drug companies or hospitals.
How does this end?
Hopefully, people start helping each other instead of being reliant to a government sanction to do define something for them.
Yes, well, as long as we are on the same page, proceed. What are your thoughts on the future?
The SDR proposition is the only one with any broad international support, so it’s likely to proceed unopposed.
Those who dread and fear it, some well founded reasons but most due to demons of their own imagination, have yet to present any alternative and so render themselves irrelevant to shaping any future course of action.
You are still dodging the question: “…what do you suggest? What do “y’all here on the forum that don’t agree with Snoots” actually disagree with?”
Beyond their own €uro, “these men in Brussels have planned” nothing; they’re agency doesn’t stretch to determining the global monetary system except in your own imagination.
The international monetary system is now determined primarily by the creditor states (led by China), who are no longer content to take and hold the $ when the US looks like it can’t sustain the value of that currency.
International institutions, like the IMF, still tend to be dominated by the US, and the creditor nations are only properly represented in a forum like the G20 – hence the power to authorise the IMF to issue SDRs being assumed by the G20 where both the major creditor and debtor states are represented.
“You are still dodging the question: “…what do you suggest?”
I suggested a liquidity dowsing stick. That seems perhaps to be the most pertinent form of prostication seeing as no one will stop the true criminals but like worms writhe and wiggle for their delight.
The international monetary system is now determined primarily by the creditor states (led by China), who are no longer content to take and hold the $ when the US looks like it can’t sustain the value of that currency.
The dollar is moribund. The pound is moribund. The euro is moribund. True imagination is to prelate that these currencies, who’s value is dependent on a criminal system of privilege and dishonest advantage, have any relevance. They are merely tools of the global elite and nothing more.
So like a man to claim a woman’s imagination is inhabited by demons, Harry. Do you wear the mitre and wield the staff as well?
Is it a feminist thing? I didn’t mention any gender, you did. You’ve done it before too. It looks like scrambling for a diversion.
I suggested a liquidity dowsing stick. That seems perhaps to be the most pertinent form of prostication seeing as no one will stop the true criminals but like worms writhe and wiggle for their delight.
That’s a non-answer, and a non-starter. No creditors to the US (or any other western debtor states) will accept divining rods in payment. They’d likely shove them somewhere very sore in whoever tried to offer one to them.
The dollar is moribund. The pound is moribund. The euro is moribund. True imagination is to prelate that these currencies, who’s value is dependent on a criminal system of privilege and dishonest advantage, have any relevance. They are merely tools of the global elite and nothing more.
You haven’t suggested any currency that might be used instead. Divining rods and overblown rhetoric doesn’t offer any solutions.
Really, I would assume you were including me in this happy throng, and seeing as I am feminine I wondered at the demons/imagination correlation seeing as it is positively medieval.
You have a knack for marginalizing opposing viewpoints as disposable due to the mental instability of those who adhere to them. Quite a manifestation of insecurity and juvenile egoism.
Divining rods and overblown rhetoric doesn’t offer any solutions.
There aren’t any solutions for the common man other than dismantling the IMF form of representational weasel proxy governance and closing the money-changer’s temple: the BIS conglomerate of central banks and financial regulatory hegemony.
The divining rod may actually have a sell somewhere. I am looking into it: might put my ‘overblown rhetoric’ to some use.
No creditors to the US (or any other western debtor states) will accept divining rods in payment.
HAH! The truth is that if I did possess such an instrument the creditors would gladly accept the liquidity rods for payment as long as the currencies retained some potency.
I liked that. The subject matter was different from what I expected.
I was wondering if maybe you guys could do more that is kind of tangentially related to economics. Maybe have Mike Adams from Natural News on. He’s very knowledgeable about Big Pharma, and other things. Maybe behavioral economics on, or something about military weapons. Get the guys from the Danger Room blog on Wired up there. …There was also a guy who wrote a book about the economics of pirate ships, which is supposed to be pretty interesting.
dear Stacy
i am in china and cannot watch youtube anymore; is it possible to post your weekly video so i can download it via ISOHUNT? my university students love you guys!
1st in the New year…how sad am I haha….great show once again!
No singing i hope!
Mike
@Daniel S
Happy 2010
.
To add to the clips re: “abuse”:

So maybe part of the problem lies in the majority of the country still believing that upward mobility is just as possible as it was post- WW2, and still believing that the pathway to achieving the American dream is an open channel rather than a (fore)closed one?
psst . . . header says Steve Levine (’cause Levine rhymes with [Steve] Keen?)
Hey Max and Stacy,
Your comment at the end of the show…….no heroes in American society….smoking our own belly button lint….dead on.

Great show as usual .
It annoys me every time I realize that these shows should be on Main Stream Media .. and they’re not !
;-(
Thank you so much Max and Stacy–
When you first mentioned Bruce Levine and his ideas about being traumtized and needing morale more than just info on what shold be done I went and got his book on the Depresson Epidemic (as I’m fighting it personally too).
It is the more straightforwad practical useful psych book I’ve ever read. It truly demystifies and gets to the point of things. Depth psychology and macroeconomics have their theoretical place, but there’s nothing like the real nitty gritty.
I hope this comment boosts your morale and Levine’s too.
Happy New Year to you and the community here!
I’m not sure Max kew about this publication: an economic assesment of the value to society of different professions..
http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/news/2009/12/091214_cleaners_bankers_ap.shtml
I suggest watching “Century of the Self” to start out the New Year. Even if you’ve seen it before, it would be worth watching again. This is a 4 part documentary (4 hours) about the Public Relations industry, and how it manipulates peoples desires to create false demands.
And it shows how this same technique was then applied to Politics to sell candidates to the public. The latest example is of course Barack Obama’s false Hope and Change PR campaign.
Here’s a link to Part 1.
BTW, I thought today’s guest was hokum. As you will see from watching “Century of the Self”, Freud was a Fraud. In general psychology is the modern equivalent of voodoo. Yes there are insights here or there, but the fact is that psychiatrists have no idea how the human mind actually works.
@Phil

@FrankHope. i agree with you on psychology. all people get fucked up living. i wonder if IQ has an effect one way or the other.
@MEP
@Sacramento Joe
Hmmm…I think they are fudging the numbers in how they define “murders” because I’m not seeing a drop in violence or the conditions that led to several murderous years in SF. Perhaps response teams are saving the victims more readily? I see a lot of cities reporting the same thing….
@MotherEarth when the cleaners leave the place is clean. when the bankers leave the place is cleaned out.

Once again it becomes an issue of implementation of morale, and a exit of big pharma from the mental health sector.
talk to each other….
Cheers
@ Max
Personally, I would much prefer to know how and why I’m being abused. I think Americans who are still chasing the Vanity Fair lifestyle, and having trouble living up to it’s standards; the Cable TV crowd, have a much harder time coping with the uncertainty we face. I feel better knowing where the blows are coming from, who’s throwing them, and why. Even if that means looking up and risking getting hit in the face.

@Phil/Germany. holy fuck.

I don’t do any business with any of the big bailed-out banks (I do use Citizen’s bank), but I’m thinking that it might be fun to post a vid in which I pretend to be closing an account . . . just to help give the movement some momentum and make the banks more nervous about bad PR. (Is that bad of me?)
Here ya go, Bonny:

The human race was dying out
No one left to scream and shout
People walking on the moon
Smog will get you pretty soon
Everyone was hanging out
Hanging up and hanging down
Hanging in and holding fast
Hope our little world will last
Heeeeee_along came Mr. Goodtrips
Looking for a new ship
Come on people better climb on board
Come on baby now going home
Ship of fools, ship of fools
The human race was dying out
No one left to scream and shout
People walking on the moon
Smog all going to get you pretty soon
Ship of fools, ship of fools
Ship of fools, ship of fools
Ship of fools, ship of fools
Ship of fools,

@Bonn. my 2 sons promptly corrected me on many occasions and i started to think for myself. kids educate there fathers now adays.

Volatility=Thrashonomics
A classic shakedown.
The tail has wagged loose of the dog.
The domestic violence meme is more trenchantly deployed in the comments on this blog re. Ben Stein’s recent attack on Ron Paul:
http://xymphora.blogspot.com/2009/12/controlled-demolition-is-hard.html#disqus_thread
an extract:

But for now “reflection” is my key word together with allready the third WINTER BARBEQUE which tomorrow most likely will be performed under minus zero conditions but in the most pleasant company of some kick ass brain Ir. Sam who will accompany me into the realms of the Unknown far reaching worlds of BBQ & Design of anything imaginable from Blimps to Mars and everything in between. Mr. King is loving his ratings after that exchange.
They have no regard for due process, Congress, or the will of the people.”

Iceland NOT (As yet) going though with the IMF loans!
You know why don’t you & Max go to Iceland, over 40,000 signed a notice NOT TOO give Gordon Brown his money…………..you & Max could cause a Rally, you might break Gordon’s heart (& the BOE).

Awesome show and awesome guest
Always good to see the psychology behind things and I think your guest and yourself did a tremendous job.
As someone who discusses these issues with a lot of people (not in the US) – I believe the words are apathy or frustration. People always ask the question – what can one person do? I always say – that can work itself out after you start at least raising the issue with other people. Not in an angry way – that will/may come later – when people are closer to getting pushed over the edge and not merely standing “on the edge” as you are.
Thanks Max and Stacy, appreciate all your hard work!

Wow…for those of us late to the party… I’ve never seen this video.
Thank you for posting it.
It’s a wonder Jim Cramer is still on the air. Shame on CNBC for keeping Cramer. The biggest con artisits out there are the people who try to sell you investments. That should be lesson #1 for EVERY investor, especially those ‘Cramericans’.
As he says:
It’s one of a series of articles on ‘The Next Financial Order’ by an ex-IMF economist.
The statement by Christine Lagarde to the IMF was made in October 2009. She’s expressing the French position on expanding use of the SDR. That’s effectively supporting the Chinese proposition, which had the support of 131 IMF member states & 77% of voting rights before the US agreed. The French position being:

@HarryW:
I would not like this world.
@MAX -
YOU are terrific!
The ‘Bretton Woods spell’ was not actually some mystical sorcery, it was an international monetary system which was broken by the US almost 40 years ago.
So like a man to claim a woman’s imagination is inhabited by demons, Harry. Do you wear the mitre and wield the staff as well?
Is it a feminist thing? I didn’t mention any gender, you did. You’ve done it before too. It looks like scrambling for a diversion.
That’s a non-answer, and a non-starter. No creditors to the US (or any other western debtor states) will accept divining rods in payment. They’d likely shove them somewhere very sore in whoever tried to offer one to them.
You haven’t suggested any currency that might be used instead. Divining rods and overblown rhetoric doesn’t offer any solutions.
but most due to demons of their own imagination,
Really, I would assume you were including me in this happy throng, and seeing as I am feminine I wondered at the demons/imagination correlation seeing as it is positively medieval.
Nice work.
Oh, maybe that guy, I think his name is Cohan, who wrote “House of Cards” about the financial crisis.
