Four Corners 2009 Ep5 Heat on the Hill ABC1.avi
    http://diwana.org/details.php?id=20681

On the eve of the government’s release of its controversial climate change legislation, reporter Liz Jackson investigates the relentless lobbying campaign conducted by environmentalists and industry over the past 12 months.

Both sides are unhappy and the government is feeling the heat.

When Kevin Rudd won government in 2007, he made it clear he was committed to reducing Australia’s output of greenhouse gases. He appointed the respected economist, Ross Garnaut, to guide the government on a mechanism to cut emissions and advise on the targets Australia needed to put in place to lessen the impact of dangerous climate change.

Speaking to world leaders in Bali in December 2007, Kevin Rudd said the threat of climate change was not distant and warned: “…our inland rivers are dying, bushfires are becoming more ferocious and more frequent and our unique natural wonders … are now at risk.”

  • Stacey, Max

If you want to see a sad but entertaining representation of how a chimpanzee might respond to a lifetime of human interaction, just watch Pankun and James. I am hoping that the weekly markets show won’t deteriorate into just another form of this kind of entertainment. Keep focussed on the economic aspect, please.

    @mind

There is no way of avoiding taking in Jungian psychology when considering the collective unconscious. Even with cloud computing, the eventual outcome of any of these advents that benefit/hinder society will almost always reflect some representation of archetypes within the collective unconscious.

  • @ Stacey

  • So now we need a humour tax or levi on all radio and internet personalities deemed to exhibit said humour determined by a government appointed panel. This TAX will to go DIRECTLY to the DOLPHINS and MONKEYS to allow them to hire LAWYERS and LOBBYISTS to change the LAWS to increase the FREAKIN taxes which GO TO them.

These elitist DOLPHINS and MONKEYS are freakin MARXIST TERRORISTS.

  • If dolphins were sooo intelligent, you’d have thought they’d have worked out by now,.how to avoid getting trapped with tuna in frickin’ man made nets,…
    C’mon,..get a grip man!!

  • I submit two items from my “The Devil Made Me Do It” file.

The first is in response to Max’s fascination with airport scanners and that they might reveal a guy’s big-package. Well this is a girl’s revenge, but don’t get your hopes up as this is not porn, although you might call it “Caloric Porn.”

So watch out you girls as the establishment will not put up with any crap. This is but one good example:

  • Hmm.. Max is trying to make inroads with the Deepak Chopra groupies?

I once spend an evening in the Monte Ray aqaurium (which was rented off for a conference) sipping white wine and eating delicious seafood and sushi while watching the majestic (and rather large) tuna swim around in their 7 meter tank..That must have been before I became environmentally aware..

  • “Dumb question”
“Isn’t that called a ponzi scheme”

    HAHAHAHA, HOHOHOHO

“Oh Dennis…we call it monetizing the debt”

  • @Max&Stacey

Do you agree that the referendum in Iceland is extremely
dangerous to the banksters because it would create a precedent
for all citizens everywhere to refuse to cover the banksters
    losses?
What could we do to support the Icelanders who will no doubt be
put under enormous pressure in the run-up to the vote?

  • @Stacy – you are confused.
The change is in the jetsream (airborne), not the gulfstream.
This is evidenced by the rapid rebound in temperatures (e.g. in Cornwall today), as the jetstream meanders further north again.

    ABB

  • yo!

Hey Max, some of what you are talking about is called ‘morphic resonance’.

Although I prefer the idea that the mice paid for the earth to run an experiment, and the dolphins are also pan dimensional beings here to help find the answer to the ultimate question.

    S.

  • @Jimodonnel

Taxing prostitution is really a strange practice. Does that mean one should also try to raise taxes on housecleaning work people perform in the privacy of their own home? Or babysitters within the same family? Or me for educating myself (after all that is stealing from colleges). What if I bring flowers..does that mean the kiss has to be taxed for the value of the flowers? Power has no morality..

  • @Stacy …. Intelligence & Dolphins etc.

Goot show … nice to hear you talk about this .. one of my favourite subjects ! … The term IQ is defined by humans … and by their own narrow minds !

There are many sorts of intelligence, not just the “mechanical intelligence” defined human beings.
e.g. Music is a form of intelligence ; visual conception another.

Max makes a good point “cause and effect” , which I suppose is what I mean by mechanical intelligence.

What amazes me is the arrogance of humans in thinking that their own IQ definition is the only one.

Yeah … who knows what dolphins or whales “know” … that we don’t !

Hats off to you both for raising this subject.
( I’ll stop here , rather than ranting on for hours )
    ;-)

  • @Phil,..Yeah … who knows what dolphins or whales “know” … that we don’t !

Lets stick to what we know for now, or else we could start going off into space,.know what I mean?
Intelligence is the ability to adapt to ones environment and prosper,..go figure : )

  • Mother Earth
    Jan 13, 2010 at 6:54 am

Governments would tax everything if they could, but now don’t need to anymore.

Inflation [printing money] is a TAX upon everyone and everything and now they use this at warp speed. They don”t even need the IRS anymore, just the FED and the BANKS, to generate an unlimited amount of funds for themselves.

They [mostly] know this which is why Congress does nothing about it but does do everything to make this process easier.

Obama could assure himself a place in all American hearts if he just abolished the IRS and transferred the agents to the FBI so that they can spy on everyone, and their scanner packages.

  • Intelligence is the ability to adapt to ones environment and prosper,..go figure : )

Yes, well. If intelligence is the ability to adapt to our environment, then man is a moron. And prospering would seem to indicate a facility for prolonging life in a manner conducive to one’s progeny’s welfare: man rates very poorly here as well.

Very well put, Phil. Intelligence is never ego-driven but resides in humility.

  • @Frances,…..skittish,..very skittish!

  • To define ego, is to know the mechanism in which “man” elevates himself above his environment,..
Try explaining that to a dolphin when it’s swimming toward a net! : )

  • Estrogen tied to brain waves? The new quantum leap? Drink out of a plastic bottle and think in a fog? Emphemeral (femerall) association?

Retrospect is tied to linear thinking as estrogen is tied to Stacey: but one can’t separate retrospect from thought that is rational. Is Max indicating in an off-beat sexist way that the new paradigm is an advancement of irrational thought? How does one define this process without relying on retrospect?

Put it in a can and sell it. What, tuna? NO, might kill a dolphin: let’s can Paul Watson. Sure, why not? Pop the top and here him sing the sea song: we have a right to monitor ya’ll from the Netherlands, from the Hague– for the clouds and the sea and the whales to be free.

I disagree with Stacey that life is more valuable according to the intelligence of the species. Intelligence? The argument that the tuna are expendable is not intelligent.

The point (what is there one) should be that all life is valuable and no life, no species, has a right to quantify or qualify the life of nature in balance. But that is not the message coming out of Europe. The message is that life is quantified by the usefulness of the species to man: else why would it matter that dolphins are wired differently than tuna.

Max, you are referring to the originarity of the present: an idea which can’t be tied to a sex hormone, but which is a derivative of the song of the planet itself.

“Thus the North, winter, death, imagination, representation, the irritation of desires–this entire series of supplementary significations–does not designate a natural place or fixed terms: rather a periodicity. Seasons. In the order of time, or rather like time itself, they speak the movement by which the presence of the present separates from itself, supplants itself replaces itself by absenting itself, produces itself in self-substitution. It is this that the metaphysics of presence as self-proximity wishes to efface by giving a privileged position to a sort of absolute now, the life of the present, the living present. The coldness of representation not only breaks self-presence but also the originarity of the present as the absolute form of temporality.” (Jacques Derrida: Of Grammatology pg309)

To speak of linear thought is to indicate a representational dialogue based on a prostitution of now as the ultimate origin of presence. That is the heart of retrospect. That fallacious view is what stands behind all dogma.

  • @Dedo:
    Goats are skittish.

  • @Frances,….You said it! : )

  • @Dedo:
Well. I’d rather be a goat than a mule, but I am not prelating myself with tags today.

  • Try explaining that to a dolphin when it’s swimming toward a net! : )

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UC4PndfNSgg

  • @Frances,…LOL,.very good!

  • have to go to bed, now I have something to look forward to when I wake up.

  • ‘The coldness of representation”

“To define ego, is to know the mechanism in which “man” elevates himself above his environment,..”

To me this (the coldness of representation) signifies separation: death–the metaphysical absence of self. The absence of self is absolutely essential to all thought through the very dialogue that is retrieved and retrievabal by feeling.

Feeling underlies representational dialogue not as a separate entity but as another way of knowing. It is fundamental to all thought: irrational thought does not equal feeling. We are melded in our thinking by the tyranny of believing that irrational thought and feeling are one and the same thing.

What I term ‘feeling’ Kristeva delineates as ‘the chora’:

“We borrow the term ‘chora’ from Plato’s Timaeus to denote an essentially mobile and extremely provisional articulation constituted by movements and their ephermeral stases. We differentiate this uncertain and indeterminate articulation from a disposition that already depends upon representation, lends itself to phenomenological, spatial intuition, and gives rise to a geometry. Although our theoretical description of the chora is itself part of the discourse of representation that offers it as evidence, the chora, as rupture and articulations (rhythm), precedes evidence, verisimilitude, and temporality. Our discourse–all discourse–moves with and against the chora in the sense that it simultaneously depends upon and refuses it. Although the chora can be designated and regulated, it can never be posited: as a result, one can situate the chora and, if necessary, lend it to a topology, but one cannot give it axiomatic form” (Julia Kristeva, Revolution in Poetic Language, pg. 26)

  • It is feeling which ties us to the natural world.

  • @MotherEarth:
The only way to evade taxes as a prostitute is to get married.

  • @HAITI – can someone contact this ‘hip-hop’ star, Jean Wycleft, and explain that ‘rap’ is actually a tool of the devil, effectively causing his material to do little but incite these poor folks back home to go about destroying their own society, the same way as it did here.

Look at the swath of land the Jews owned between the Lower Bronx and Bensonhurst, and you can clearly see that ‘rap’ (Spike Lee Productions, et. all,) actually worked flawlessly to bring down the property values to the point where every schmoe like ‘the Don’ could own whole neighborhoods for a few dollars down.

I’m sick of seeing our society freely operate in such an Auschwitz manner. They still plow all the trees to build an strip-mall, and complain about the need to create carbon taxes to prevent others from similar acts of heresy.

  • @Frances,…I didn’t mention “emotion”,..I merely defined “ego” as a tool to be used!
go figure (google) lol : )
