  1. Something no one ever discusses on this issue: If the banks hadn’t given a mortgage to anyone who could fog a mirror, and pushed the evaluations ever higher, we would all have been able to afford less expensive housing, would not have needed to charge so much on credit cards to afford normal everyday expenses, and the banks would not have made so much money on their credit card industry, late fees, penalties and just plain outrageous interest charges (for money borrowed at near zero???) It’s all been a plot to make us mortgage and credit card slaves, never getting anything paid off. May I suggest that the Credit Unions and small local banks all offer, as account opening bonuses, pitchforks, torches, rope, tar and feathers instead of toasters this time?

  2. The Underfundedmentalist

One better than walking on your mortgage, stay and don’t pay,
    or better yet, sublet,
it creates a whole new layer of bureaucracy, which equals time, meanwhile put the money toward a co-op apartment building, or a compound in a rural area.
The social contract has been broken,
Prepare to pick up the pieces.

  3. @ronron

Queen of Canada ? Michaelle Jean or Dairy Queen, One is black and arrogant the other white and real fat. It’s the only left to English-Canada as an original cultural indentity. Remove Dairy Queen E. and Canada crumbles. Colbert was Louis XIV finance minister, and Colbert’s version 2010 is USA’s gester. It’s easy to walk away. And the end you will have paid in taxes, interest tree to four times the price of a house that will go down another 50%.

  4. The Underfundedmentalist

When the truth becomes a novelty,
    comedians become prophets.

  5. And why aren’t the big banksters and goldman sachs in prison yet. Let me guess. They own the judicary of the usa and the media. So screw us. Were screwed. Get used to it.

  6. Very funny and a great explaination of the folly of the banker class.

It might be nice if we in the UK could see this vid

You are missing nothing except some American Imperialist going on about how walking away from failed home loans is a good idea.

  8. Fred's Family

Oh, its late at night, I’m all pissed about my day job or I don’t have one. Hahahahha, that’s so funny, that Colbert guy really lets them have it, oh boy they aren’t getting anything past him.
haaaaaahahahahaha. Let’s just laugh it off, let it go, no one is going to get in trouble.
Try that for 20 years and see where it gets you.
So funny I forgot to fucking laugh.
My guess is it puts you right here in this, hahahaha so funny,
I’m being fucking turned out on the street to trick my ass for the bankers, war mongering paranoid pricks who run the military industrial bubble machine.
Colbert is an insecure actor like most all of Jon’s tools.

This shit is no laughing matter.

  9. @ TJ – thanks for the creole pig video.

  10. Eliot Spitzer, Naomi Klein, David Frum, and Stephen Dubner on Fareed Zakaria’s GPS:

  12. The paranoia jibber jabber on the truth about comments reminded me of this song.

  13. California Doctor

If the entire nation stopped paying their bills immediately and for the next 3 months, the banks would still be the beneficiary of more Quantitative Easing and MOPE.

The only MOPE DOPE is the idiot who keeps paying on a $500,000 mortgage when the property is only worth $250,000 if sold immediately.

  14. @stacy

It might be nice if we in the UK could see this vid ;-)

  15. Note to Stacy – add Colbert to the ‘Jubilee’ cast.

Walking away is ethical as well as politically correct. Kicking some evil bastards down the steps can’t be a bad thing.

  16. Colbert keeps me sane.

  17. Isn’t it a bit premature to mock the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission? They might actually turn up something. Such as that a couple of trailer park reservists from West Virginia were responsible for the whole thing … Oops! Different scandal.

  18. @William of the north. yes the british empire. us canucks like to fool ourselves.

  19. William of the North

    @ronron,

  20. @Mike/liverpool. on the other thread i answered. ontario canada. :-)

  21. Mike/Liverpool

  25. Not even a tip of the hat for me or someone who also posted this one. Empathy could create much more prosperity in general, so even from an “rhetoric”/economic rational perspective it’s retarded beside better environmental condition etc. The reason it is not happening is because the top 1% has managed to keep a small part of the population lazy, fat and illusionary happy; while robbing the majority. If people were properly educated/exposed to diverse information, not brainwashed constantly by ads/tv/3d movies that screw up your neurological process and creates depressions by weak minded people etc. The top 1% (and the top 1% of that so really the top 0,1% who own almost everything) want to maintain it’s ‘beneficial’ power position. It’s all self preservation that’s why governments/politicians are corrupt, that’s why the health care industry wants to threat and not cure to maintain revenue, big companies destroy competition with unfair competition or by cronyism/corporatism/fascism with subsidies. The average person has to make longer hours for less and less pay while being exposed to a minimal amount of personal development/education/information etc. Can you really blame some one because they are brought up to be stupid, dumb, fat, and ignorant with such system? To a certain degree there’s personal responsibility, yet with the distorded value system; as excellently discussed on the show; and do i have to remember the french voted no for the treaty of lisbon, where’s the outrage that “democracy” doesn’t/votes don’t count? Still all big brands sell in france, bankers speculated/can print money etc. O and not to forget; sarcozy. Anyways france is just slightly better than bad/worse/cesspit. As long no one mentions the billions of people with out sanitation, clean water, food etc. Or the constant genocide by bombing/war; nothing will change. The establishment knows what happens when photo’s of real war come out like in vietnam; that’s why its not allowed to show american flag coffins, dead children/women/men, blown of limbs, total destruction of society, desperation, starvation etc.
Falling into repeat wrote quite a lot about this, good to see a small comeback of being totally immoral/unethical and so on unlike the legalized mafia of private mercenaries or the banksters who even profit from deliberately poverty/destruction/death et.

  26. Anybody have good links/sources to the talk about the cash for clunkers program being a program to supply china with the steel from the cars? Dont know if this was only a rumor but if my memory serves me well even Max talked about this.

  27. Pitchforks?.. he means guns and ammo?
