Stacy Summary: Max’s letter to the editor published in today’s FT.
From Mr Max Keiser.
Sir, Richard Lambert’s critique of Sir David Hare’s play The Power of Yes is shrill and unconvincing (“Why David Hare is wrong about business”, January 18).
In fact, contrary to what Mr Lambert argues, business is absurdly easy due to the ease companies have in accessing credit at rates – engineered by banks engaging in cross-border “carry trades” in the currency market – of virtually zero. Furthermore, when these businesses lose money with their virtually free cash they lobby their respective governments for bail-outs.
Additionally, Mr Lambert states that the primary purpose of business is not to make money. This is one of those pathetic oxymorons you hear like “plausible deniability” or “jobless recovery” meant to obfuscate and protect the guilty from prosecution.
His solipsistic exercise also includes his notion that business is not a selfish pursuit. Clearly, the entire basis for free market capitalism since Adam Smith has been the pursuit of self-interest.
Finally, we are told that businesses are inherently seeking trust and that we should give them the benefit of the doubt. Sorry, but based on the litany of fraud, larceny and deceit practised by business, particularly in the City of London, it’s clear that only suckers would trust business today.
Max Keiser,

@Ptah
Well I don’t wish something like that to happen to any of these willful ignorant NWO tools but I know what you mean.
Because there’s global warming we’re getting an Ice age, you see?
Neither do I.
@Mother,..You’re missing the point,..as per usual,..keep fighting though,.it’s fun to watch! : )
“The CIA should be abolished. The entire shadow government apparatus ought to be done away with. The CIA. The NSA. The Fed. The WTO. The MIC.”
It does make me laugh when folk scream “abolish” this take down that,..
Any one who is aware of how corporations are formed, is well aware of the ability to “change” entities!
In other words, it’s futile to attempt to take down a straw man ; /
@Dedo
This is like triomfantically saying upon second inspection the steering cabin of the titanic was still perfectly dry in the first half hour of its sinking. You can feel safe now. How dumb can you be.
@Mother Earth
“CIA have taken over the defense department (and thereby the government)..Nice, now nobody is safe anymore.. ”
This didn’t happen yesterday. JFK was murdered by elements of the CIA and Bush Senior was involved as CIA man before he became head of that same organization for instance.
CIA was involved in many coups d’etat, killing of Mossadeq in Iran. Saddam Hussein was on the CIA pay list same as Osama Bin Laden and the dirty list can go on and on. Noriega affair – the CIA using drugs money to fund there covert operations like they are still doing today etc. etc….. Drugs is the only big moneymaker left for the U.S.A. banks.
CIA was partly filled in by Nazis after WOII and until this day protects them. Google “Operation Gladio” , “Operation Paperclip” Our good ol KLM was involved in getting thousands of Nazis abroad.
Part of NASA is invested with CIA and NAZis who still hiding the truth from us from what they all discovered on the Moon and Mars together with the Freemasons. We have anti gravity machines and a great deal of the UFO’s we spot are ours. NASA was first of all a military organization and it says so in it’s regulations.
I can go on here for hours and hours but you get my point, this didn’t happen over night.
@Mep
Agree
@ Ptah – You misread. The climate scientist is a female. Her husband, a teacher, drowned . . . during their honeymoon. Nice compassion, btw.

@ ME – Ron Paul is right. The CIA should be abolished. The entire shadow government apparatus ought to be done away with. The CIA. The NSA. The Fed. The WTO. The MIC.
Dear @Dann II
It is a standard pattern to accuse the other side of being extreme. Then they always look bad. “Can I have a sandwich?” “What? Do you want to eat everything? How egocentric!”.
Extreme positions are simpler to maintain and easier to communicate (because there are less to remember)..So your statement “The IPCC is a fraud” is an extreme statement you have adopted (for no clear reason imho) but that is ok. Now you accuse me of being extreme “Superior creature”, “You want to silence all that oppose it democratically” (notice the word ‘all’). So this shows me 1. Your mind is incapable of grasping the necessary nuances to make acurate judgements or statements. 2. You are employing standard debating tactics which indicates you do not care about content, only about prevailing in the debate (hence the content blind tactics). 3. You don’t care whether you are regurgitating nonsense as long as it evokes a response. 4. This implies you will never orient towards the facts, because they don’t respond. It is a simple case of social dependence, just like you see in religious people.
And Ron Paul openly acuses the CIA of haveing taken over the defence deparment (and thereby the government)..Nice, now nobody is safe anymore.. http://rawstory.com/2010/01/ron-paul-cia/
@ Mother Earth – Classic Teddy Roosevelt quote posted there by one of the commenters:
Political parties exist to secure responsible government and to execute the will of the people.
From these great tasks both of the old parties have turned aside. Instead of instruments to promote the general welfare, they have become the tools of corrupt interests which use them impartially to serve their selfish purposes. Behind the ostensible government sits enthroned an invisible government owing no allegiance and acknowledging no responsibility to the people.
To destroy this invisible government, to dissolve the unholy alliance between corrupt business and corrupt politics is the first task of the statesmanship of the day.
The deliberate betrayal of its trust by the Republican party, the fatal incapacity of the Democratic party to deal with the new issues of the new time, have compelled the people to forge a new instrument of government through which to give effect to their will in laws and institutions.
Unhampered by tradition, uncorrupted by power, undismayed by the magnitude of the task, the new party offers itself as the instrument of the people to sweep away old abuses, to build a new and nobler commonwealth.”
~T. Roosevelt 1912

Frank Zappa Hungry Freaks, Daddy Lyrics
Mister America
Walk on by
Your schools that do not teach
Mister America
Walk on by
The minds that won’t be reached
Mister America
Try to hide
The emptiness that’s you inside
When once you find that the way you lied
And all the corny tricks you tried
Will not forestall the rising tide of
Hungry freaks, Daddy . . .
They won’t go
For no more

Philosophy that turns away
From those who aren’t afraid to say
What’s on their minds

Hungry freaks, Daddy . . .
Mister America
Walk on by
Your supermarket dream
Mister America
Walk on by
The liquor store supreme
Mister America
Try to hide
The product of your savage pride
The useful minds that it denied
The day you shrugged and stepped aside
You saw their clothes and then you cried:
THOSE HUNGRY FREAKS, DADDY!
They won’t go
For no more
Great mid-western hardware store
Philosophy that turns away
From those who aren’t afraid to say

If geonocide is the intent, then they will take away your guns first. Over 200 million people have died at the hands of their government, all of them disarmed by gun laws first. Here is an excellent chart showing the country, the number killed and the laws enacted prior to the murders.

Amicus Brief to the Supreme Court of the United States
Throughout history, the disarmament of populations has all too frequently resulted in genocide and mass oppression. History is replete with this familiar pattern. To hold that the right to keep and bear arms does nothing to preventdisarmament efforts by State and local governments is to disregard what the Framers understood – that individual possession of arms is essential to preventing usurpation by the state.
It’s a fascinating read. For the full brief:

True. The people from the CFR, Bilderberg and the NWO are full of shit. But you see the problem Youri ? So was Mao Tse Dong, Adolf Hitler, Staline and Pol Pot. Don’t know why. People full of shit and half crazy always end up in power and end up killing tens of million people on a regular basis.
. . . and the clouds appeared 30 minutes before the earthquake.
@Youri
I don’t blame you.
On a side note, I’ve been doing a little more research on man induced quakes. I found a link Mep left that was good. It showed the clouds with prism like colors over the center of the Chinese earthquake a few years ago. There is a phenomenon that can cause that – except in these clouds, the colors were upside down! It’s only circumstantial, but makes one wonder.

Proposal Set to Curb Bank Giants
President Barack Obama on Thursday is expected to propose new limits on the size and risk taken by the country’s biggest banks, marking the administration’s latest assault on Wall Street in what could mark a return, at least in spirit, to some of the curbs on finance put in place during the Great Depression, according to congressional sources and administration officials.
Bloomberg: France pushed for AIG-Fed deal to pay banks in full.
@Youri
I don’t think pohdina said everyone is saying there are too many people. He/she said DanielS and others were saying that.
Also, I don’t think pohdinpa took a strong stance, but was pointing out inconsistencies. Maybe I misread it . . .
@pohdinpa “What you and others are basically saying is there are too many people.”
No I am not! I say, and I said it before, that earth can easily have a couple of billion more people if farming land is used efficiently and calculations have been made.
Don’t put words in somebodies mouth and the NWO is full of shit anyways.
42 is the answer, but what is the question? BTW, check the basement of the planning council for important notices.

Daniel S’s thinking is very Georgia Guidestone-ian, isn’t that an Alex Jones specialty. So you have a conspiracy being exposed by Max’s pal Alex, but the conspiracy’s guidelines are the end results of Daniel S’s “gaiaism” which is what Max and Stacy espouse at every opportunity. A strange twisted hybridized -ism chimera, like I pointed out in previous comments. Either Alex or Max is pimpin the other or maybe it’s a symbio-pimpocracy
What you and others are basically saying is there are too many people. A transparent decent thing to do is have the leaders of all countries come right out and say it, 5.5 billion will have to go. The earth can only heal itself with 500 million lucky souls living on it. Now 1.5 billion are probably alive now because DDT was developed. Was and is this a “truth is ugly or beautiful” conundrum, is the beauty of 1.5 billion more living humans balanced by the ugly of the destruction they sow upon the globe? Is the beauty of this life saving gift of DDT also the ugly of it’s (sometimes questioned) poisoning of the environment? Which is progressive, which is retrograde? Which advances, which retards? Black, white,yin, yang, up, down, north, south, daddy what’s Viet Nam? Sorry I went all MST3K there for a minute.
It’s masturbatory semantics. What are people to “RISE UP” towards, a future culling of the human herd? Also, much of what people fear about unfettered capitalism is unsustainable without fiat money to bailout mistakes, will the environmental damage be sopped up like puke with tissue paper money or will it be mitigated with future capital investment and innovation through so called evil capitalism. Will taxing every exhaled breath or colonic gaseous emanation bring about this innovation or will investment?
I got it, the answer is 42

What really irritated me when reading Col Philip J Corsos book “The Day After Roswell” was that at the “first” meeting between aliens and humans they shot the alien in the back!? That gives you the mind setting of these people. In the rest of the book the aliens were referred to as enemies while nothing has pointed in that direction yet. They are millions of years ahead of us in time and development and could have destroyed us a long time ago.
This tells me these people are really insane and than some still wonder why the aliens still haven’t made formal contact. Some retarded buy books to find this out cause they can’t think sanely for themselves.

Hi Max n Stacy and everybody.
The gavaged duck or goose analogy is an apt way of describing the political essence of the American citizen. After a while, if you’re aware of the force feeding but see so much gavage around you, you become utterly hopeless that any improvement might be driven by grass-roots, and you begin to simply smoke grass and tune the fuk out. Astonishingly, after just one year or so there are about 4 times as many medical marijuana clinics in my neighborhood as there are starbucks and you can smoke hash in some of them. Then walk 40 yards to go get three taco supremes and a big fukin pepsi and collapse. Gavage indeed.
We are drowning in mixed messages, contradictory information, aka the “cognitive dissonance” that makes us give up hope that any positive effect might trickle up.
Just hurts worse than usual today because of the MLK v. Obama comparison, rainstorm in LA, the Massachusetts election (as if it mattered anyway).

How can there be ‘brainwaves’? I know about auras, but brain-waves would seem to be retained within the skull?

Yes, the interesting tie with mojo and the South. What a lot of trouble people go to: the black cat in the cemetary! It is a little chilling but refreshing; like a spash on cold vodka.
I suppose we are waxing on lizard-topics though. I wonder if the Lizard-people have their mojo all the time?
@frances snoot
Funny that you mention it cause I always wondered what this “mojo” mend? Max is right our brainwaves are in the ether somewhere.
To get back on the mojo: For that sake it could have been Garlic as well since it seems to be good for a lot of reasons:

- As Pest-Eating Geese Guard ( http://tinyurl.com/yey477s )
- Against Vampires (read: Goldman Sachs)
- For female employees to keep their horny boss on a distance
- In the bus, tram or lift to keep your “Lebensraum”

If your mojo is working, you lead a charmed life. That’s because mojo, in its original sense, is a charm, kept in a cloth bag. Depending on which conjure doctor you go to, the charm can be roots, rats, snakes, lizards, pumpkin seeds, dirt, clay, or steel wool. Those were ingredients mentioned in North Carolina in 1962. Back in the late 1930s, in Memphis, Tennessee, to make a mojo one expert said you would sew a red flannel bag with these ingredients: High John de Conker (a plant known also as Solomon’s seal), black lodestone, Adam and Eve root, and violet incense powders. A 1946 account from New Orleans said that the mojo was “the leg bone of a black cat that’s been killed in a graveyard at midnight.”
If your mojo is working, you have sex appeal. But if someone else touches or even sees your mojo, it can lose its power. That’s the explanation of the lyrics in the 1928 blues song: “My rider’s got a mojo and she won’t let me see…. She’s got to fool her daddy, she’s got to keep that mojo hid; but papa’s got something for to find that mojo with.” Written evidence for the word goes back to 1926 in the song title, “My Daddy’s Got the Mojo, But I Got The Say-So.” Nowadays the word is widely used, often with no reference to a magical cloth bag but simply meaning power, influence, or advantage.
The word is African American. Its origin is uncertain, but it seems probable that mojo ultimately came from Africa. If it did, a good candidate for the source is moco’o, meaning a conjure doctor or person who works magic. That word is from the Fula or Fulfulde language, a member of the Fulani branch of the Niger-Congo language family. Fula is spoken as a native language by two-thirds of a million people in Cameroon, and by four million more in Cameroon as a second language. One other English word that may possibly come from Fula (if not from Mandingo) is yam (1657).

“Moreover, Brooks’ editorial completely misses what a spectacular, Republican dream Haiti is. The upper class Haitians have been exploiting their country for their own profit and pleasure for over 200 years and have done a spectacular job making sure their endeavors remain unencumbered by abominations like building codes, health codes, social safety nets, public education and available birth control. The place is a conservative’s dream come true. I’m not sure why Rush Limbaugh and company haven’t moved there already.

It’s called the IMF sovereign debt restructuring mechanism, Mep. SDRM. It’s be on ongoing ’cause dejure’ slapped between polo matches and church service for those who like to feel good about colonizing and enslaving people for easy gain:
http://www.imf.org/external/np/tr/2003/tr030122.htm
“But we did collect 24 million signatures from people, and they signed a petition which called for the cancellation of the unpayable debt of the poorest countries by the year 2000 under a fair and transparent process. And indeed that was at the heart of the campaign when the campaign was launched.
We recognized right at the beginning that what we were doing is we were asking powerful creditors, the G-7, to do themselves harm, if you like, to face losses and to write off debts. And in doing that, we were asking people to act charitably and also asking them to behave unnaturally. It is absolutely unnatural–”It’s against their religion,” as one banker once said to me–to write off debts.”
So, now, see. They don’t ‘write-off-debts’. They make countries bear the burden through IMF sdr quotas and IMF taxes (don’t you know where your tax dollars went; why didn’t Geithner pay tax; he works for the gov’na); and the system is innoculating itself against the unfortunate and planned collapse of any accountable structures or government aide to the people.
One small group of unaccountable bankers decides industry, export, import for every nation through the system of debits and credits. This would be the new ‘reformed’ IMF council:

This is disaster capitalism at its absolute worst. What IS Naomi Klein crowing about?
Don’t you think it is odd that there is no news commentary concerning the 250B dollar + allotment ‘granted’ last August by fiat to member IMF nations? Wouldn’t one think the reason would be to restructure the reserves of member nations to suit the industrial capitalists following the switch to the international clearing union?

@Phil /Germany
It’s an awkward situation all together. Namely if the American policy is to let the Dollar devalue, which it seems it is, what’s the use if all other currencies do the same?
For the Americans the Euro isn’t the big issue here but the Yuan is cause the Chinese hold most American debt. That’s why they were urging China not to peg to the Dollar anymore which the Chinese until now are still doing cause there export position is king for them.
So if all countries are devaluating their currencies this will only benefit Gold cause that’s the only true and independent standard to measure this otherwise everything would look exactly the same except for Gold of cause.
It would mean that the deliberate devaluating policy of the U.S. will fail against the other currencies mainly the Yuan like said. Gold will be king.

Germany to Let Euro Die?
Daily Bell :
Conclusion: So what comes next? At some point we suppose we would anticipate a loosening of the “courageous” financial rigor that the EU leadership is now exhibiting. But there is much more at stake than the currency itself. The power elite’s dream is to establish regional currency commonalities around the world in seeming preparation for global government. If the EU begins to splinter, the dream dies, or at least is far deferred. Of course our perspective is that the elite should consider moving away from its rush toward global gelt. A private gold and silver standard would fit the bill far better than these artificial currencies and would be far easier to sustain. We’re not holding our breath.

@JI – security. That’s a good point. It’s one of the reasons why Kotke (author of Garden Planet) talks about the eventuality of ecovillages, out of a necessity. I see ecovillage as a very loose term, including urban neighborhoods. Sharon Astyk emphasizes the importance of knowing your neighbors and collaborating with them, starting now instead of when it will be mnore of a necessity.
It also brings out in a different way the differentiation I’m trying to make between this attitude and the “all-guns-pointed-out” crowd. Thanks for bringing it up.

…And I’m fine with beedom, whatever. In case there’s anyone WGAFF, I can’t recommend highly enough the book Garden Planet. It’s only $3.95 in PDF format. Even though I’m interested in the gold market (mostly as a barometer of where we are) and the stuff Stacy and Max talk about, as well as a lot of the links posted here, I’m not one of the gold, guns and dried food crowd. I think that the best thing each of us can do right now is to change our focus: not to expect “the system” and governments to take care of us; and that we should take steps “while we can still drive to Safeway and buy food” to make sure we have a 1,000 sq. ft. garden and the know-how so we can feed ourselves when TSHTF. The differentiation to me is very important, as I think we are experiencing the beginning of a slow civilizational melt-down rather than just another depression (which is one of the points of Garden Planet). I don’t think there is much anyone can do to stop it. I also think governments are all basically incompetant, and we’re gnerally imputing too much power and efficacy to them. Things will improve when they get out of the way. Read the history of the last days of Rome; it ended “not with a bang, but a whimper” as T S Eliot said.
We’re arguing over the remains of a dead horse who has been repeatedly flogged pre- and post-mortem. The vultures are picking at the meat and bones, while the commentators are standing around in their suits and make-up prognosticating on how & when it’s coming back to life. Ain’t gonna happen. It’s going to be a long slow slide, and the biggest problem we all have is (strangely enough) not being talked about except by a few (like Dmitry Orlov) – how can we each prepare ourselves psychologically for what’s coming when things do change rapidly?
Anyway, this isn’t doom ‘n’ gloom, it’s just what is! I don’t think it’s really going to be as bad as a lot of folks expect. I remember my grandmother telling me about the great depression in the US. She said it really wasn’t bad as long as you had food and you didn’t get depressed from reading the newspapers about how bad it was. She said people slowed down and got to know each other, and were generally helpful towards others’ situations. {RANT=OFF}
@DanialS. you want to refer directly to me?

Seems like reruns of this strip are in order right now!
milk-toast— easily dominated; extremely mild; ineffectual; namby-pamby; wishy-washy.
“You do display the characteristics of a psychopath”
Really, DanielS., you would need to engage in my world daily to label me with the term you find so compelling. It is no wonder that you are so capable of declaring all men unavailable to your prescient understanding.
“For my own health, I must not play along.”
What?! Are you milktoast!?
“From what I’ve seen you are a bully here to play lord of the flies under the false-pretenses of intellectual discourse and inquiry.”
Oh. You are milktoast.
@Frances,
I would “define time” for you or explain any of my ideas or statements to you if I thought you were being genuine in asking. However, I’ve addressed more of your false inquiry and
nitpicking than my better judgment suggests. From what I’ve seen you are a bully here to play lord of the flies under the false-pretenses of intellectual discourse and inquiry. For my own health, I must not play along.
It is unfortunate that you would work so hard to attack and obscure the very meaning of words others use here, let alone their broader intentions. But for whatever reason you’re going to continue to pile-climb and “prove” and some will continue to be fooled. So be it.
I’ll just drop pebbles into the pond and the ripples can do what they may.
Sadly yes. You do display the characteristics of a psychopath. I don’t hold it against you. Best of luck to you.
“It is not necessarily a character flaw to be mentally ill.”
No, according to your tightrope-walk across the galaxy, the mentally ill are a result of a system of economics, correct?
Wallstreet stands in the way of Utopia? Just bust up those big banks and give us all a shovel: we’re ready to dig for love.
“When I say fearfully greedy, it is to distinguish fearful greed, from healthy greed.”
Oh. Healthy greed. Is that when we all as one dig the trench together? We will unlearn our unhealthy greed (as in an overseer makes money making sure we dig the trench for scattered coins) and relearn our joy, our creed:
Work is Freedom! Hands to the shovel!
(You must consider some binding glue, here, Daniel S. seeing as people like symbols and songs. Something truly stirring.)
@DanielS:
I’m shocked you deign to address the one to whom you gave the prognosis “psychopath”. Aren’t you afraid of my poisoned words? Didn’t you ‘warn me’ as to the horrid outcome my ‘way of thinking’ would reward me?
You label yourself.
“When I call capitalists mentally ill.”
Capital is necessary for capitalism to exist. What you declare evil is the capital, not the human element. Gold, silver, paper currency, titles to land, treaties, propriety–shall you outlaw this evil? Are you instigating a coup against men or are you advancing a state in which some men will rule over all men in the absence of capital controls?
If you use money, you are a capitalist. If you eat at a restaurant, you are a capitalist. We exist in a reality in which capital labor is the system, the status giver.
The alternative would be slavery. Men will control other men with or without the seashells. It is the nature of the beast homo-erectus/sapiens.
(I relegate sapiens to the dustbin of historial archives as the recent cloying rhetoric has proven that man has learned nothing in the last centuries of cruelty except how to make most men least able)
MA–left a post for ya back in the “Truth about Markets- New Zealand” thread
Good pitch, Max. Nothing like a brief, (but shrill,) ‘stockholder’ response letter. Too bad the ‘company,’ in this case, is already insolvent.
..Today, as I review more photos of the horrors in Haiti, I can’t help but imagine this flick soon coming to a theater near me and you!
Hey. Making money is not bad. Making money by any means is. That’s what type of scumbags we have operating in the business world. Please. Don’t throw the baby with the water.
Capitalism in not mean and bad if it leads to progress. Goldman Sachs is a parasite like most of the bankers today. They contribute nothing today, that made capitalism great. Less and less Edisons or Teslas. More and more pimps like Obama/Bush.
@Frances,
“Its a sign of immature thinking to relegate an opponent to one’s viewpoint to some quasi-defined arena by labeling the opposition as ‘mentally ill’ or ’selfish’ or ‘unempathetic’. Those who do so lack the ability to argue logically and so resort to childlike impulse.”
And so you have just relegated me to a quasi-defined arena with a label of your own.
“Indeed, empathy is most indicated by a willingness to set aside personal preference in an attempt to ‘walk in someone else’s shoes’, so to say.”
You have clearly not walked in my shoes as you have not made a genuine effort to understand my meaning.
“False empathy proceeds from a religious verbosity which defines itself by an adherence to dogma. Missionaries with the zeal of god’s mission; whose deeds are as repugnant as the message they proclaim.”
More quasi-defined labeling from you, and misrepresentation of the empathy I have which is evident in the body of my writing on this site.
“Hobbling the entire world will not lessen the ability of those with evil intent at seeing fruition to their agenda; it is a free society that enables justice through the competition and agency of freemen and women.”
No one is free in a world where freedom is expressed irresponsibly as it is in capitalism. Everyone suffers from the violence of capitalism.
“Allowing criminals to regulate a criminal system is madness.”
You have labeled again, and thus closed your mind. With empathy you could have found that their paradigm is the criminal. Capitalism itself is a crime in that it violates natural law which in the end, governs all of us.
When I call capitalists mentally ill, I am not passing judgment on their character. I am stating a demonstrated fact. I am describing, not labeling. It is not necessarily a character flaw to be mentally ill.
When I say fearfully greedy, it is to distinguish fearful greed, from healthy greed.
Try to have enough of the empathy that you’ve lectured me on, to read what I write in an attempt to understand me, rather than in search of vulnerabilities to attack. The foundations of my thinking are very solid. The chinks in my armor usually boil down to limitations in using language between people who understand it differently. Or that I’m not being literal.

Wow… amazing there’s no news… like Max news!!! … just thinking about Special Bragging Rights…. again….. so many of YA… are so easy and eager to be played …. wonder why???
@pohdinpa,
Capitalism concentrates power into the hands of the most fearfully greedy people on the planet. These people will use their power to engage in fraud. But more importantly, capitalism itself is a fraud.
You’re choosing to ignore the fundamental flaw in the capitalist paradigm. That you can ignore the totality of process. This flaw was permitted by willful denial and nature’s vast capacity to heal. But now that flawed paradigm has shifted so much thought and action over so much of the planet that nature can’t heal fast enough.
The whole of modern society was largely purchased with plunder from nature, leveraged against the suffering of other peoples.
As for your obsession with the job Max is doing and those of us who appreciate it. Go do better.

@all
I’m wondering if any of the Max worshipping progressive neo-marxist dunces realize that the crash is not a symptom of the failure of capitalism but is the demonstration of healthy capitalism. It is a logical response to fraud and unsustainable business practice. When businesses engage in these schemes and unsustainable practices and are caught in their ponzi endgames they should be punished in the marketplace. The failure was not of capitalism but of property rights and legal recourse. Instead of prosecuting and jailing the perps the corrupt regulators and central banks instead bailed out the crooks and covered up their failure. All the regulation in the world doesn’t prevent fraud if there are no indictments and penalties for criminal activity. Only when CEO’s, politicians, regulators and accomplices see their peers in handcuffs and locked up will they curtail their nefarious schemes to defraud and corrupt the capitalist process. Demand complete transparency and all other regulation is unneeded. A business that cannot survive in the light is a fungal growth, although some mushrooms are palatable and others delicious they are all associated with rot and decay that cannot survive in the light.
I was solipsistic for a while when I was going through my first existential crisis. Thank god I don’t cary that burden around anymore!
I meant to say,
These nuts think you can divide by zero.
Just call the zero net benefit modern business produces, a positive whole number. Then spread this process around as much as possible, giving everyone a share. As the evidence of destruction swamps the world, call the evidence a positive whole number too.
And voila! You’ve divided by zero!
@Marc .. yes you are correct (“hole” Fiat system ), I meant WW of course !

Now, in its attempts to help Haiti, the IMF is pursuing the same kinds of policies that made Haiti a geography of precariousness even before the quake. To great fanfare, the IMF announced a new $100 million loan to Haiti on Thursday. In one crucial way, the loan is a good thing; Haiti is in dire straits and needs a massive cash infusion. But the new loan was made through the IMF’s extended credit facility, to which Haiti already has $165 million in debt. Debt relief activists tell me that these loans came with conditions, including raising prices for electricity, refusing pay increases to all public employees except those making minimum wage and keeping inflation low. They say that the new loans would impose these same conditions. In other words, in the face of this latest tragedy, the IMF is still using crisis and debt as leverage to compel neoliberal reforms.

Lambert writes that business is not a “selfish pursuit, in the way that it is portrayed by Sir David. It depends on teamwork”
Teams can be selfish.
This is a perfect example of the narrow focus of a businessperson. They eliminate all that is not within their focus from relevance to the point where they deny it’s very existence. Business teams work toward their exclusively held common interests which includes managing the PERCEPTIONS of their investors, buyers and the public, not necessarily actually serving those groups as that is often less profitable. The net results outside these teams are destructive. We see the evidence everywhere we look with open eyes. THAT is the evidence of selfishness. Not rhetoric. Results. The teams gain relative advantage (outside the reality of overall destruction that can make everyone net losers). The outsiders lose. However to those adherent to the businessperson religion, all that is outside their preferred focus doesn’t exist. They blind themselves to the ecological, social, cultural, and individually suffered harm that they do, unless it is apparent that it places their money extracting activity at risk.
Modern business is an entrenched system of destructive madness. The product of our past failures to successfully deal with the fearful violence of the mentally ill manipulators among us.
Lambert is like a depleted uranium salesman. Radiation is everywhere. It is natural. Bananas give off radiation from a naturally occurring Potassium isotope. Even your mom gives off radiation. You love your mom don’t you?
@Phil Germany
I would go further. Not only the US. The whole. the “hole” system in Europe, in Asia and Il Mondo is kaput and bankrupt. That’s what soo perverse. The US dollar stands because all the others are kaput and bankrupt. Completely vicious and soo disgusting.
ponzi system will actually grind to a stop
HAHAHAHAHA
Do you really believe the IMF will go away *poof* Phil with the demise of our economy?
@Phil/Germany:
“Although the CFPA Act of 2009 is focused on consumers, it would also affect millions of small businesses. Most of the 26.7 million businesses in the United States, including the selfemployed, rely on credit cards, home equity loans, auto title loans, and other sources of consumer lending to finance their business. They use these loans for everything from obtaining seed capital to start their business, to managing monthly cash flows, and providing working capital. Many of these businesses do not have access to a commercial line of credit, often because they are too small or too new. Many others use consumer loan products to supplement commercial credit.
Small businesses account for significant employment and job growth. According to the Small Business Administration, employer firms with fewer than 100 employees accounted for more than 35% of U.S. employment in 2006. Small businesses include many new firms that tend to grow quickly. These new firms account for a disproportionate share of the net new jobs that are added to the economy. Indeed, a Census Bureau study finds that new firms, most of which are small, accounted for most of the net additions to jobs in the United States between 1987 and 2005. Moreover, some of these startups grow into very large firms. Microsoft®, for example, operated as a small firm for several years before growing rapidly into one of the largest corporations in the world based on market capitalization. The well-being of small businesses is critical for the long-term performance of the economy, and the ability of small businesses to obtain credit is essential for their health.
In this economic analysis of the likely effect of the CFPA Act on small businesses, it is probable that if the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s CFPA Act of 2009 were enacted, it would have a significantly adverse effect on small businesses by restricting their access to credit. Some would lose access to credit altogether. The businesses that would be most adversely affected would be the new businesses for which consumer loan products are a principal source of funding. As a result, the CFPA Act would inflict the greatest harm on those small businesses that account for a significant portion of the economy’s net job growth. Fewer entrepreneurs would be able to start and expand their business. It does not go too far to suggest that the CFPA Act of 2009 could deny the credit that garage-based entrepreneurs need to create the next Apple® or Hewlett Packard®.”

@Marc
Yes, I agree. In fact I posted that a few days ago.

PS: We know the US is BK, the real question is when the ponzi system will actually grind to a stop.
@Max, @Stacey.
Good to see this in my morning FT.
I also had a letter published in the FT last year, which exposed how Hector Sants had subtly indicated that the FSA had deliberately ignored what the banks were doing – and how the FT failed to pick up on this. You can read it here:

” engineered by banks engaging in cross-border “carry trades” in the currency market”
Cross-border currency regulation?
What is the new architecture of the 21 century for international finance?
“By the author’s own admission, the Keynes Plan was an “ideal scheme”,
“complicated and novel and perhaps Utopian”
Keynes’ Plan aimed at “multilateralizing” national trade imbalances through
intermediation by an international banking institution. The plan was accompanied by a complex set of rules to limit the creation of imbalances between countries and to facilitate adjustment. According to the ICU’s draft articles of agreement, every member state would have a maximum debit balance determined by a quota related to its volume of trade. The ICU included built-in incentives and penalties against maintaining surpluses.
Countries would be allowed overdraft facilities up to a definite amount, to allow time for the country to re-equilibrate its position. Members whose balance exceeded one-quarter of the quota would be defined as Deficit/Surplus countries. With Surplus countries that have exceeded half of the quota the ICU would discuss measures to restore equilibrium
(e.g. appreciation, expansion of domestic demand, reduction of barriers to import, loans to developing countries, payment of liquid reserves to a Reserve Fund). In the case of large debtors (for which the debit’s balance exceeds three quarters of the quota) further measures could be discussed, including the possible suspension of membership.
One of the key innovative features5 of Keynes plan lay in the treatment of Surplus countries, and specifically in the following two features:
Deficit countries would be allowed to borrow the balance of creditor
countries;
The ICU would discuss measures to restore equilibrium with Surplus
Countries that have exceeded half of the quota.
While this note limits its analysis to the proposal for an international clearing
union, Keynes’ proposal encompassed the institutional set up of a set of issues broader than international payments and the need of a central clearing union. Keynes’ “International Bank” was meant to become the financial core of the architecture of a system of global economic governance. As outlined in his 1941 proposal the new international institution would also play the following roles (p. 91):
Finance an international body in charge of post-war relief and reconstruction,
supplementing contributions from other donors. Overdraft facilities could be
granted to this body, financed by countries having credit balances in their
Clearing Accounts;
The Bank might finance an international body in charge of preserving peace;
It might set up an account in favor of international bodies charged with the
management of commodities, and might finance stocks of commodities held by
such bodies;
The Bank might link with a Board of International Investment (or a Development
Corporation) and be closely associated with an anti-depression board.”

@Phil – US Default
The US has already defaulted, as very few are buying their junk bonds but themselves, through offshore entities and big borker-dealers. It just hasn’t come to light yet. The question is being phrased incorrectly. It should be something, “How long will this go on before one or more (real) big players get nervous and stop pretending?”
Seeing the news of the rep victory in Massachusetts, the way the dems can’t handle it, the way they are bullied out of what actually? Power? The US media make me sick.
“Clearly, the entire basis for free market capitalism since Adam Smith has been the pursuit of self-interest.”
Well, and what of that? Are we being led by the ‘selfless’ to give up our ‘self-interest’ or by the uber-capitalists to give up our rights to self-interest in preference for their envisioned propriety of a ‘post-industrial world’?
Will they give the people back their land, Guiseppi? Will the people regain the rights to their labor capital?
Or will the Bretton Woods Institutions succeed in capitalizing their advantage over the weak-minded and the gullible?
Is it selfish to support small business in an America now entering the teeth of a depression?
I objurgate the word selfish as it is used to describe those with families who need to provide sustenance and look to independence as a means of advantage. We should villify the corporate/state, not business.

Plausible deniability…Does the public knowledge allow denial without seeming suspicious..It maybe would be more fun if it meant a suspicion should be plausible enough so that the denial doesn’t sound wierd..
Yes priminister had a good 4 step inaction plan:
1. There is nothing going on
2. There is something going on but it is too early
3. There is something going on but we can’t do anything (yet)
4. There is something going on but it’s to late to act.
Action plan
1. There might be something going on and we must prevent it
2. It’s clear something is going on (even if it is not) and we must act now
3. We went in and prevented it
4. The fact nothing ever happened to justicy the action is proof it was succesfull!
@Guiseppi:
I wouldn’t worry to much about ‘making money’. Soon enough no one will have that option anyway.
Specially if we keep playing cards for Team Soros: Go Team.

This ‘revolution’ is being fought with the same rhetoric all the ‘for the people revolutions’ are fought: works like a charm. But those words are backed by Big Money.

The Power of ‘Say What?’
What Hare is doing with this play is highlighting the unique nature of this crash, arguing, “I’m trying to break through the protective attitudes of the bankers, who argue that it was a recession just like any other, that we have to reconstitute the system as it was and that there is no need to question or examine the very basis of capitalism. It was Alan Greenspan, the former Federal Reserve chairman, who admitted that ‘the whole intellectual framework has collapsed.’ That’s what I’m trying to explore.”
http://politicalcustard.blogspot.com/2009/09/review-david-hares-power-of-yes-opening.html
Time to question and reexamine the very nature of capitalism?
Says who?
@snoot
Here’s what’s wrong with his argument
But firms that only exist to make money – to maximise their profits – will not over time offer the quality and value that customers demand in return for their loyalty.
What’s a BANK?!?!?!
What’s a brokerage?
Are they not businesses whose SOLE PURPOSE is to make money?
The rest of his points bounce around and he tries to call the aforementioned businesses, the FINANCIAL SYSTEM…

Mr Lambert is being paid by and therefore a lackey of the people he’s trying to protect.
Actually, you should not bother with his arguments. You know they are fatally flawed.
I’d like to supplement something I stated in an earlier thread re: the source article in question…
Mr. Lambert seems to be confused on the difference between business and manufacturing
So his critique/discourse seems to be moot notwithstanding the dissonance inherent in his argument…
