It did seem that the DPJ would allow the yen to float freely against the dollar when they first came to power, in order to spark some internal demand in the Japanese economy and give the hard pressed consumer a break, as the yen increased in value. Sadly more recently they seem to have decided to take the often used LDP technique of talking about government intervention when the yen strengthens in order to support the powerful exporters.
Where will it all end?
When the Japanese people finally run out of savings who will be left to buy the Japanese government bonds (90% of which are now purchased by Japanese people)? Who will support the massive government deficits? Foreign investors? I dont think so, they have their own problems. Eventually the government may get more than it bargained for- A very very weak yen.
The emotional imbalance between losing and winning may be related to the natural overestimation of low risks and underestimation of high risks. I just changed one of my adds from a promise of profit into a warning of potential loss

I think this Volcker plan is just another gimmick and nothing more.
Democrats are feeling some heat of public anger and are trying to deflect it somewhat, but I don’t see them doing anything against the wish of big corps. Especially after latest Supreme Court order effectively giving corporations right to keep or sweep any politician they want.
Being able to fund election of smear campaigns without limits amounts exactly to this – corporations will now pick and choose all government officials without constraints. Maybe US congressmen should now wear corporate logos on their suits just like Formula 1 drivers. You know, those folks should be presented in TV like this: “this gentleman was brought to you by Monsanto, that lady was bribed by Pfitzer and those few congressmen are sponsored by Goldman Sachs.”.

There are dozens of independent journalists and others down there who have seen thousands of bodies being scooped up and hauled off to mass graves. I’ve seen some of the footage on their reports.
How are you able to assert that the body counts are false? Have you been down there? Are you saying that there have been no deaths?

The Huffington Post had the number at 200,000 two days ago. “Thousands” or hundreds? Who is to know really: the press is involved in the manipulation of reality not the reporting of it.
In the Katrina debacle, the dead were added to after the force of nature was upon the people. This instance to me seems the perfect opportunity for just such an ‘operation’.

Another point you might think about when it comes to people staying their houses and paying even though they are upside down…..They don’t want to leave their homes, their communities and schools that their children are enrollled in. And where do they go after that? They probably know that they will never own a home again considering the credit rating they will have and the economic melt down in terms of jobs and the banks requiring 20% for a downpayment.
It’s just sad. I think it’s a mix of not wanting to admit failure and loss and not wanting to leave their homes.

I know.We have friends and family that have family there. The drama is compounded because Haiti’s construction code was never applied and Haiti well was always very chaotic place. It’s usually the case with poor countries. People live on 2$ a day. Try that for a couple of weeks. You are probably informed how the IMF has treated this country, not just France. How things never change.
The discussion about Haiti is obvious.
During mass casualty events which kill thousands within a day or week, the local mortuary services are overwhelmed. When the local mortuary services are overwhelmed, there is no way to properly prepare the body for burial.
Worse, the earthquake in Haiti took down the government itself. Largely, Haiti is lawless and without government. Social order can not exist in this situation (SHTF).
Therefore, the burial of 120,000 or 10,000 or 200,000 is largely a numeric statistic which is fluctuating, especially when you are within a few weeks of the disaster.
Importantly, the death count will be continuing to rise over these weeks as the absent medical services continues to kill.
There is an obvious linkage between the absent medical services and the death of the population.
This is culling. I have no doubt.
