  • marc authier, well said. Holy geesus. WEre screwed. Mankind has not advanced. Its gotten more selfish and perverse. WE are in big trouble.

I just wish the ashholes that got us to this low level of evolution could be taken out or taught a lesson and leave the rest of us alone.

  • @jon
Don’t get your hopes to high. Life is a cycle. We are in a real bad one. Interesting but bad one. It will pass. The Cold War had one great advantage. These people were scared. Today they are scared by nobody. Mind if Goldman Sachs hires bomb sniffing dogs and supplies revolvers to its management, it’s a real good sign that they are starting to be scared.

  • @ frances – are you teasing me for some reason?!

@ all – after Howard Zinn died, I decided to buy some copies of his books to give to people I know who have never read him. Came across an online copy of A People’s History of the United States, and thought maybe people here who haven’t read Zinn would like to. The book is here.

  • @snoot
If you want to tease her Mep. Ask her to wear a burka. It’s soo cute a lady in a burka. You have to imagine everything because you see nothing. Just teasing. I have to joke sometimes. I am too serious. Not good for the blood pressure and make you bald, No yet bald. Did you heat that. Ben Laden is for Al Gore’s credit carbon contracts ! Ben is a greenie Stacy. No kidding. Ben is like Jesus and Lazar. He’s back from the dead suddenly as Obama’s polls plummet.

Welcome to the real world, the adult world. That’s our problem with us in the west. We had too good of a time. My parents weren’t care free. My grand-parents neither. Us yes. And the kids also. La comedia es finita like says Palliachi in the final act. It’s not what the rest of the world experienced these last 20 years. I thinks it’s our turn to eat a lot of crow.

  • @ dan valley – Yeah, it’s a bummer. Just as with Zinn, though, Salinger was pretty old. What’s exciting is that if the rumors are true that have been spreading around in literature circles for quite some time now, Salinger’s unpublished works might be published now that he has died. Rumors have been that he has been writing all of these years and agreed to have his work published upon his death.

  • @Y’All
massive full moon last night… freezing… and it’s bloody snowed again… DANG!!!

  • “Ethiopia has the best equipped army in Africa”

What a joke; who is this guy? Ethiopia is poorly equipped and struggling against the Arab backed goverments on its border. Compared to Libyia or Kenya, Ethiopia is armed with a slingshot. This guy is totally lacking in credibility.

  • @Y’All
it’s like a disease on this site when someone can’t get their own way… they trot out the same boring lines… ‘you’ll see’ ‘welcome to the real world ” if you only knew what I knew’ ‘maybe you need to WAKE UP’… HA HA HA!!!
anyways… incredible FULL MOON over the city last nigh… OK BYE!!!

  • @lek – “Ethiopia has one of Africa’s largest, best-equipped and most experienced armed forces, with more than 100,000 trained personnel.”

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/6208759.stm

And, by the way, in comparison . . . Kenya’s army is only 24,000 trained personnel . . . a fraction of the size of Ethiopian army. And Libya’s army is about half the size of Ethiopia.

  • Stacy is right about Ethiopia. They used to have an empire. Erythrea had a real bloody war wih Ethiopia when It tried to separate from the empire. Historically they had no choice.

Relegious conflits between the muslim expansionism has always caused very vicious conflicts between the muslims neighbours. The ethiopian christian church is one the oldest in the world with the Coptes from Egypt. It’s tough being christian in this region. You have to be armed and prepared to fight.

  • @stacy

Ethiopia’s army is about the same size as Egypt and Morocco, 29th largest in the world. But what you dont mention is that they are poorly trained and equiped and more than half are involved in foreigh peace keeping missions. Also, much of there equipment dates to the 1970s, although they are modernizing. Kenya’s army is actually larger in terms of actual combat personel although total numbers are smaller.

This from Search. com. I would not consider BBC unbiased about a christian nation’s army that is resisting islamic aggression.

  • @lek – well you seem to have your own opinion; I don’t know what your agenda is in saying Kenya is bigger than Ethiopia’s military capability, but there are many, many other references than BBC upon any simple google search which say Ethiopia is ‘best equipped’ or ‘largest’; I can’t tell you which is accurate and I have very little interest in military capability but on just glancing a few sites, it would seem that there are really only a handful of countries with what you could call military capability . . .

And this USAToday article states that Ethiopia military receives more US military aid than any other country in the region: http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/2007-01-07-ethiopia_x.htm

Anyway, for anyone who is interested or who can tell the difference between equipment, here is a side by side comparison of the Equipment of Ethiopian and Kenyan military capability:
