@Stacy: curious comments about driving in russia. I always thought that our drivers are particularly disrespectful of pedestrians. My experience is that they never stop to let you cross the street, even if the light is green. Maybe only New York’s drivers can be compared in their despise of pedestrians. As to why people don’t shout at you for double parking, my guess is that you never know who is that other guy – people just don’t want to get in trouble. What if he has fsb ID card or something, = higher social status than you.
Stacey, interesting comments on driving in Russia. Reminds me of how different driving is in Pittsburgh PA vs NYC area. In NYC area all you need is a lead foot, gas pedal and middle finger. Pittsburgh on the other hand… drivers are noticably friendly. They have the “Pittsburgh left” which is when the light turns green the opposing car waves you to make a left turn in front of thier right of way. Very odd, but happens all the time.
Don’t know if you folks ever read The Exile? Mark Ames could tell you about the Russians. On the new Exile site he has an article somewhere about how Russians love crazy as in insanely brave, aggressive, dangerous. You don’t bug Russians because in a honor based social system (rather than one based on law) to cause someone to lose face is to tempt death. (I read an article today about Karoake bars in the Philippines.. it’s bad dangerous to mock some fellow’s singing in the Philippines.. another honor based culture. One is apt to get shanked.) Ask Ames. His satirical newspaper, the Exile, was not a happy experience for him. He fled Russia ahead of the assassins and went to hide out in Panama! (Incidently, Ames went to Russia and set up the Exile with now famous Matt Taibbi (sp?).. who is 1/2 Philippino.)
Snoot dear.. you need to publish a website. I will read it if you do. And not merely because we both admire white cats. (Of course, Casper Studly is name of cat!)
There is another area of manufacturing that Italy is quite good at…
Making WELDING WIRE, and GRINDER DISKS (especially Zip-cuts)…
Almost every shop I’ve worked at uses Italian Wire for welding (but not welding RODS… those come from ESAB… but they are a Global Conglomerate, so I can’t remember where the rods are made… I thought they were made in Germany)
@febo
Don’t feel so bad, I did take to the streets in protest before the ’91 invasion of Iraq, and again in ’03, (it’s not considered radical to do so in SF)seemingly for naught. I feel the wars were going to happen regardless of who was selected to be president or prime minister. The fact that their lies are catching up to them is a good sign. Freedom demands vigilance of the morally conscious. At least you seem to have a national memory in the UK, we are sorley lacking in that department here in the united states of amnesia. Most outspoken americans are blacklisted in the states, vidal, keiser, perkins, palast, there are enough of them to start an American Ex-Pat Network, blacked out news from blacklisted yanks!
I deserve to bear the burden to the extent I did not get out on the streets and protest. That’s my point. It’s easy to hand the decision off and then complain when it doesn’t turn out.
Ref Blair – don’t be so harsh on him. We put our leaders in such a difficult position because we allow them to be sucked into an evil system underpinned by our own implicit assent to be infantilised.
Blair had to decide whether he could throw away a decades old US-UK relationship or attempt to hold onto the US – which had plainly gone loopy after 911 – and stop it from going crazy.
Yes, Blair made a huge huge mistake – we know it, he knows it – I’d hate the bear his burden. In other words there but for the grace of God go I.
Cars stop for pedestrians in Russia because you never know who might be Russian Mafia. Didn’t know that about France. Doesn’t sound indicative of a superior culture to me. In my country people run down pedestrians because their cars are a second home/office/playground. Smokes, coffee, cell phone, screaming conversation with passenger, “whups! did I hit something?”
In the 70′s six million dollars was enough to build a bionic man. Well at least on t.v.
Now six million might cure your cancer if you get lucky and it doesn’t come back.
But six million will not get you the beach front house in Malibu you always wanted.
“the spreads on Greek debt were widening over German debt long before anything Fitch did anything”
“After a series of rating agency downgrades, Greece, which borrows under the name Hellenic Republic, has had to contend with the highest 10-year yield spreads over euro zone benchmark German Bunds since it joined the euro in 2001. That yield spread, which indicates the premium investors demand to favour Greek over German debt, blew out to 318 basis points on Friday, while the cost of insuring the country’s bonds marked a record high of 361.2 basis points, according to monitor CMA DataVision. If 10-year Greek bond yields have shot up dramatically versus Bunds this year — by around 60 bps in absolute terms since the end of December — it is still small measure when compared with the five-year area of the yield curve. Five-year Greek yields have risen 100 bps this year. [3] The risk attached to Greece’s sovereign debt continued to dominate investor sentiment with the announcement of a syndicated issue of 3-5 billion euros causing Greek 10-year bond yield spreads over German Bunds to widen beyond 300 basis points. [4]”
“The downgrade reflects concerns over the medium-term outlook for public finances given the weak credibility of fiscal institutions and the policy framework in Greece,” Fitch said in a statement, calling for austere fiscal policies.”
@snoot – Greece and Iceland are totally different stories; the spreads on Greek debt were widening over German debt long before anything Fitch did anything
The dollar, Stacey, is protected at present by the inclusion of the dollar in the sdr basket. The elite do not wish to implode their own assets. A strong dollar supports EU export: a vital ingredient in the furthering of the currency controllers’ interest. BIS is located in Basel.
The system plays into the profit of the few at the expense of mankind.
@Stacey:
You are ignoring the application of Fitch in the whole bogus ‘crisis’. Blanchard was worried that there would not be a impetus for reform:
“MR. BLANCHARD: Let me reinforce and go beyond the U.K. It is clear that governments are facing a very difficult choice. In terms of fiscal policy, they have to do two things. First, there is no question that private demand is weak. As long as it is weak, fiscal stimulus is basically needed. At the same time, it is clear that if the fiscal stimulus were to just go on forever, there are serious issues of debt sustainability and, therefore, they have to do two things. They have to do fiscal stimulus as long as it is needed and may well be into 2010, for example.
At the same time, they have to take measures which improve the medium-term sustainability of the debt. That means reforms of the retirement system; that means reforms of the healthcare system. These reforms have basically to be confronted. The idea of just us going to put fiscal rules and not do these reforms, is a joke. The fiscal rules can help and they are very important once you have a clear direction. They make you basically stay on that path. But fundamentally, some structural reforms are needed.”
Three items at play: exit of government liquidity and stimulus; debt escalation through interest hikes; ‘reform’ of the structure of governance in favor of sustained interest payments to banking elite.
The Greek dllemma is one of corrupt goverment official, escalating debt, and unfair transfer of wealth form public to private purse. Here’s one of the ‘projects’:
They will corral the ‘piigs’ in ghettos, er green cities. and split the spoils among the rich jetting elite beneficiaries.
It is NOT a matter of who pays the debt: the debt is being used to colonize the nation for the EU. The tie-in between Greece and Iceland is the application of the Finance minister’s signatory authority on the whole package. Iceland’s referendum does not free Iceland from debt at all. It only mitigates the payments over time.
@snoot – I think the Greek issue comes down to whether the Greek population has to pay the debts through ‘austerity’ measures or would the German population have to pay with their savings; Iceland should refuse to pay the private debts of the three banks nor should they pay the UK as they were complicit in the crime
I also think the Greek story is more similar to California; will the US federal government ‘bailout’ California? Will citizens of other US states complain when they do? And, if not, who will bailout California? Or will it just default on its bonds? Will the federal govt allow them to do that? What would happen to the dollar in that situation?
Greece and Iceland stand set to suffer under onerous sanctions put in place by independent bankers: what difference Stacey if the bankers are affiliated with large or small interest?
@Stacey:
Outrage is directed at the bankers who are set to decimate Greece in service of European interest fees which are directed by downgrades through the Fitch rating service. Fitch serves French interest, doesn’t it?
@snoot – the causes of the respective debt crises of Iceland and Greece were entirely different; the Greek debt crisis is mostly caused by government spending on pensions and other government services tied with a very uncompetitive economy (much to do with having the euro); whereas Iceland’s debt crisis is/was financial and caused by a massive, fast burning Ponzi scheme operated by the three big banks there who were able to loan out 10 times GDP laundered via London; Greece, Portugal and Italy have been like this for decades and always used to devalue their currencies as a way out; that this is no longer an option for them will lead to unrest there no doubt . . . whereas many Icelanders are now trying to get into the euro; and yes, 3% is arbitrary
Greece is a lesson for all deficit countries including the US of what the IMF finance ministers have planned for the people. This is only the beginning.
And Greece is still under the basel 2 onus.
It’s insanity! Who decided that 3% deficit rule? Even the French foreign minister claims it is impossible.
Where’s the outrage for Greece? Why only outrage for Iceland? Where’s the protest against the finance ministers who carved up the debt-plagued “piigs” at their cozy Canadian retreat, representing their elite backers?
‘He said “the Greek won’t be spared, just like the Irish or others, from the experience that the path of restructuring is a bitter path.” Greece had an estimated budget deficit of 12.7% of gross domestic product last year, four times the 3% threshold set under EU budget rules.’…
German finance minister Schaeuble:
“Greece has received a clear request from the European Commission; Europe is taking care,” Schaeuble said. “Some newspapers write that Greece seems to be now under European administration.
“There is no way around it, the European Stability and Growth Pact has been created for exactly this reason: to have the euro as a stable, reliable currency. It will remain this,” the minister said.”
We’re not in the grips of the banksters. We’re not in the grips of crony government and all that, we’re in the grips of money. Most of us were speculators, not just them. Including, I gather, Max Keiser(?) That’s why we’re not out on the streets, that’s why we don’t want the truth.
‘Local utility RheinEnergie AG will supply vehicle-charging stations for the test, which is being financed by the German government’s economic-stimulus package, Dudenhoeffer said.’
@Snoot. kick em when there down. that’s the new humanity. lie and cheat and step on peoples feet. the jobs in ontario are melting. can some one give us a name.
While the governments think they are helping the banks use the money they have at their disposal to disect the real economy into oblivion. Money itself has come the weapon of mass distruction..
@ronron:
The vulture feeds on carrion: the acronym piigs is relatively dehumanizing way to keep people from feeling empathy for the citizens of Greece, Italy, Ireland, Spain, and Portugal.
What should I say… kwedit is the first payment system where children can bypass parents when it comes to buying virtual goods in games. Once again Max have been in forefront and talked about this in TAM shows. According to The New York Times virtual goods traded for $1,03 Milliard in 2009 in US alone. Whatever the future holds, this is just wrong. (na24.no)
Should you call Max and Stacy to Bangalore if they will be in Thailand next week. Its only $ 400 Round Trip for one person from Bangalore to Bangkok. You have asked them for a visit earlier too so this is good time to call them again…….. what do you think………….Acha Mauka hai Stacy si Milne kaa ; )
“Usage of Piigs grew following the rise of the BRICs acronym for Brazil, Russia, India and China, coined by Goldman Sachs Group Inc. Chief Global Economist Jim O’Neill to describe four of the world’s biggest emerging markets.”
The Piigs nickname has grown increasingly popular in the last month as investors dumped assets in the euro zone’s smaller economies on concern the countries will struggle to control budget deficits. Stocks in Spain, Portugal and Greece plunged today, with the Athens Stock Exchange Index falling to the lowest level since April. Yields on Greece’s 10-year bonds and Portugal’s 2-year securities have jumped to the highest levels against German bunds since the late 1990s.
“By denigrating a nation in the process of trying to describe a financial situation, it sort of puts the people in that country behind the eight ball,” said Peter Sorrentino, a senior money manager at Cincinnati-based Huntington Asset Advisors who is visiting Italy in March. His firm oversees $12.8 billion. “It serves no one’s interest. We’re all in the same boat together.””
“”Our country needs this investment,” Sarkozy said, adding that France could develop nuclear energy and also meet its European Union commitment to ensure that 23 percent of its energy needs is drawn from renewables.”
How is Moscow International Airport now? It wasn’t that good 4-5 years ago I was there four time and it was really very hard to wait there cause it was very small place and very few chairs to sit on so most of people had to sit on the floor to catch their next flight. Not much different than our IGI New Delhi which I have herd now had improved a lot in past 1 year..
“Concerned about the effect on the stability of the eurozone, the commission is proposing deadlines for complying with the cap. All five – France, Greece, Ireland, Spain and the UK – already posted deficits above the 3% limit last year.
Ireland is asked to bring its budget deficit into line by 2013. France and Spain by 2012. Greece should take steps to get its deficit back under control in 2010. And the deadline for the UK would be 2013-14.”
“France’s budget deficit is expected to reach 8.3 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP) this year, well above the 3-per cent-limit set by the bloc’s Stability and Growth Pact.
Germany’s deficit is estimated at 3.4 per cent this year and forecast at 5 per cent in 2010.
But while Germany has said it will endorse Almunia’s decision, France has already indicated that it will need one extra year to reduce its budget deficit to within 3 per cent.
Speaking after talks with fellow EU finance ministers in Brussels on Tuesday, French Economy Minister Christine Lagarde had described the commission’s proposed deadline as “very unrealistic”, adding that meeting it would prove “extraordinarily difficult”.”
No growth and 3%! Insanity~basel 2.
France has only wine and nuclear power colonalizing force, right?
“The European Commission, the EU’s executive arm, today backed the Greek plan to cut the region’s biggest deficit after Prime Minister George Papandreou announced more measures to reduce the shortfall, including expansion of a wage freeze to cover all public workers. The Brussels-based commission demanded regular updates from Greece on implementing the plan to reduce the EU-high deficit of 12.7 percent of gross domestic product to within the 3 percent limit by 2012.”
“Brussels invoked new EU powers under Article 121 of the Lisbon Treaty, allowing it to reshape the structure of pensions, healthcare, labour markets and private commerce – a step-change in the level of EU intrusion.
The EU told Greece to “spell out the implementation calendar of (budget) measures within one month”. Athens must be ready to “adopt additional measures if needed” and to submit quarterly updates.”
I watch these two sites for Gold prices.
Until last week, the closing prices were almost always the same.
The last few days of last week, this was not the case.
May be just a quirtk … dunno.
But I assume the BullionVault people trade physical only !

A great disconnect exists in the gold market between the exchange futures contract price (the paper price) and the gold bullion paid price for transactions (the physical price). The differential in price is growing wider, enough to place tremendous pressure on the gold market itself. Look not to the gold premium paid for purchases, but to high volume purchases in the tens of million$. In mid-December, almost every demand for gold contract delivery was matched by a cash delivery, complete with 25% bonus premium offered. The officials even produced a new ledger item called ‘Cash For Delivery’ that was necessary to balance their badgered books. It prompted little attention. Some call it a basic bribe. Others call it a technical default.

It was possible to survive – for 10 months – using cash in Russia.
In Europe or the UK, 1 month would be a catastrophe.
The Russians still know how to survive from “basics” … in Europe, we are 99% dependent on the “pre-packaged food” industries … as well as energy of course.
Repeat ..
I remember travelling through Germany at night and looking at the concentration of lights in populated areas … and thinking about how fragile and exposed the infrastructure would be to a sudden stop in energy deliveries, followed by food shortages of course.
A few months ago, MSM German TV gave a short Doc. at ca. midnight telling everyone that Germany has stsockpiles of grains and oil that would suffice for ca. 3 months.
i.e. don’t worry, be happy !
@Marc, I should know better but I can’t let this go, dismissing Freuds scientific work because of his personal life is akin to dismissing Newton because he had men hung drawn and quatered, or for that matter Archimedes because he invented weapons of mass destruction, its absurd and ignorant.
@Danny, if any people were in need of psychoanalysis then the Irish would be at the top of my list, joint first with the Jews. Again some people labour under a false notion that Freud said the Irish were childlike and un-analysable, this is false. Freud does mention the Irish in Totem and Taboo, and Jokes and their Relation to the Unconscious, but not in a disparaging or unkind way.
Further to Palantiri’s comment about the number of Americans in prison here is the video link; take it to 19 minutes in. Its a well loved comedy programme but even these guys had a bit of a sense of humour failure… http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00qm909/QI_Series_7_Gifts/

That’s true and that’s so funny about Bernankesan, he always he says he could or gonna do somtin but later it always turns out he’s doing notin.
Bernanke plans to withdraw emergency stimulus from the U.S. economy 5 February 2010 (Bloomberg) http://tinyurl.com/y8qey2l
Frankly I hope they would do that so that the delkationairy implosion finally can have it’s righteous pace but knowing Bernankesan it will stay with the lip service.
“If this thing goes to trial you can expect both Paulson and Bernanke to be on the witness list.” If he’s going down, he’s bringing them down, too. Bringing them down to Chinatown. Order in the court!

Now that’s quite a surprise. Just kidding. It’s call to spend youself to death to try to get out of the hole. There is something I don’t get about this ? Where will all the money come from ? I know. They will print it. Monerization big time.
Undersecretary for management at the State Department, Patrick F. Kennedy, told Congress that the State Department wanted to keep crotch bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab out of the U.S., but that intelligence agencies insisted that Abdulmutallab be let into the country.
Specifically, on January 27th, Kennedy told the House Committee on Homeland Security that intelligence agencies blocked revocation of Abdulmutallab’s visa because it would have foiled a “larger investigation” into Al Qaeda.
If thats the case Mr. Kennedy Why did’nt ya inform the remaining 200 odd passengers Ya freakin Lunatic

About the EU data thingie:
See the nice respectful manner in which the USA takes this semi-democratic decision.
Always (!) threats. Be it China, Venezuela, EU, etc.
If you ever meet people that made alot of money doing just what they were told. I”ve met alot of them. They remind me of that goul that was in the “lord of the rings books and movies”. They hang onto their preciious. THeir illgotten wealth.
BAsically they are just crabby selfish people for the rest of their lives.
we can all escape humanity at any time we like…….but eventually that choice is taken from us as dont own but are only borrowing this life….shall big brother tell you how to live or dare we live to live?
Sadly most want to be told how to live and as they form the majority they expect all need the same or deserve it …this s why We were founded as a republic…so the many would not trample the minority.
When the streets run red with blood its time to buy property.
When the printing press is at full its time to buy gold.
When the jackboot crushed down on the back of your neck….its too late for any and all.
But I want to ger even with the people from Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan. I want to get even. It’s not even a question of money in reality. It’s about honor.
It was nice seing Lehman Brothers and Bears Strearns going bust knowing what they did. But I really think the same thing should be done to JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs. Love is nice but when it comes to Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan, to let them have it for good would satisty me much more.
@ Gordo – I know it!! I just about pissed my pants when I learned that Gretchen Carlson just plays dumb!!!! Even though I don’t watch Faux News, I was pissed off at her when I found out. I thought she was one of the stupidest people on TV . . . only to find out that she’s a very bright actress who gets paid to manipulate and dumb down her audience.
I an almost sure you didn’t know that ? But it get’s even worse. Most of his famous patients never said what they said ! Freudian psychoanalysis writings are in great part pure invention by a cocaine sniffing junkie ! Besides that Freud is a fraud. Not very original taking greek mythology and trying explaining everything based on your desire to kill your father and wantin a penis in your pants. That prick Freud should have known that the vagina is all mighthy. They don’t call it the matrice for nothing. Freud was just an old male chauvinist pig with huge problems with his sexuality. His psychiatry completely ignores women psychology. You always have a strange feeling reading Freud. A feeling of reading a pervert obsessed with screwing with his patients and repressed sexuality probably because of his jewish mother. Always think of the jewish mother in Woody Allen’e film. Very freudian.
As for the Irish. They make more sense than Sigmond.

funny comment… I was born in house with no running hot water or outside toilet … I used to get washed as a baby in a basin in front of coal fire with water from the kettle…. about 2 years old I remember stepping on the soap next thing, I managed to fall forward throught the fireguard and burn hand and all the way up my arm… still carry the scar to this day… I like it… and I remember enjoying all the attention I got in hospital

The Irish appetite for self destruction is always apparent. Some say you only become real Irish when you leave this little island. Hard working and extremely nationalistic. But when your here, you couldn’t care two fucks, your just another dumb paddy who got lucky reputationally over a potato blight.
Social aspects here is something you talk about after the game, should you be accused of being a dry balls.

Was thinking about myself during your conversation and came to the conclusion that I am more about loving than hating. I know my dark site but love is much stronger. My sense for righteousness and justice is very strong and can’t be put a side whatever.

Believe me. It’s not a sign of intelligence using the US dollar. Here what it really means. It s sign that indicates that people from Russia perceive their country as backward stupid and corrupt. It’s an indication that a lot of people in Russia still believe that the place is runned by a pack of morons incapable of controlling the monetary aggregates.
Not a sign of intelligence and real bad for a country. That’s the meaning. It’s a vote of no confidence towards their own countrye and a fantastic free loan to the USA. Want some examples of dollarized countries. Ecuador at one moment. It bankrupted the country. And Argentina. Well you know Argentina.
It’s a sign of capital flight and colonial status.

@Mep, the infant is born omnipotent, it’s majesty cries and miracously something happens to soothe. The internal world and the external world are one, however reality rudely crashes in, this is where mother makes sense. How does a baby experience hunger, perhaps as an attack on its inside. Why does baby cry after having a breastful of milk, perhaps it feels gulity after it has hungerly devoured the good object in a cannabilstic attack. Just some ways of thinking about babies. Mums contain and make sense of all this unconsciously, fucking fantastic if ye ask me.
@Mep, the abiltiy of the parent to contain the childs frustration at learning is paramount. For example when a child is doing a jigsaw, they may say that they are bored, what this can mean is that they can longer tolerate thinking, so what can we do, we can complete the jigsaw for the child (not the best response) or we can assist the child do it with them (help it bear learning, the preferable way), as parents we help contain children from the overwhelming experience of life. I have found with my 3 kids that they thrive on a tough love regime. They go to bed at a regular time with a night time ritual (brushing teeth, mum sings them a good night song), I read books to them, JIGSAWS my god jigsaws what a great thing to do with kids I cannot emphasise the developmental importance of jigsaws to a childs development. Kids are naturally curious, your constantly saying no to them, no don’t put your finger there and so on. They need love and stability, it pains me to see good people fuck up their kids by giving them what the adult thiks they need as opposed to what the child needs.
It is not only with the breast that the mother feeds the child, it is also through her gaze, there is an unconscious (pre-verbal) communication going on, the child is being nourished on love.
Regarding misleading unemployment figures, I always wonder why the actual employment figure is emphasised and quoted more often. It would be interesting to see how that figure has changed over time.
Also today China is hedging its energy needs with a record breaking 60bn coal deal with Australia to create a coal complex called: China First. Seems like there is a bit of a message there.
China wanted to buy Rio-Tinto recently but was blocked by the govt so this looks like the next best option for them.
How do the Russians think about a European Army Force? ‘global player’ must mean war of some kind or ‘crisis management’ in newspeak term.

Re: American Prison Corporation
In the latest QI episode Stephen Fry took up the subject of gaol/jail/American prison and made an quite interesting comment, he said you could almost say that the Americans have reinvented slave trade. This I remember is something Max have talked about before. Stephen Fry also gave a little list of examples of what the slave/prison factory corporation produces;
100% of all military helmets, ammunition belts, ID tags, bulletproof vests, and other items in uniform
93% of domestically produced paint
36% of home appliances
21% of office furniture’s
ether work or Solitary confinement…

beside “pigs” nations, are Denmark next in line?
Public debt in Denmark would explode in size over the coming years. The debt could rise so sharply that it reaches the same alarm-like high level right now seen in Greece. Right up to 2000 Milliard Kroner, which would correspond to 120 percent of future GDP, public debt will grow to if the government is not making substantial reforms and get more Danes to work more. (google translation)
as Chanos recently cited: Commies’ all of the world are being bailed out by “capitalism”. Whereas; “capitalism” is being bailed out by Commies’(totalitarianism).

@ Max & Stacy – Re: competition being necessary for quality products . . . remember that the majority of corporations–at least American corporations–do not see themselves as makers of products anymore, but rather, makers of brands and merchants of lifestyles. So it fits that shitty quality products would be the outcome.
@Jim, the Irish constitution (the state) states (article 41.1.10) the state acknowledges that the family is the basic primary group-unit of/for society according to nature, and that it is a moral institution which has inalienable invincible rights which are more ancient and higher than any human statute.
Finally getting around to the 2nd half of TAM. Thanks, Max & Stacy for reminding me that I have to take my Honda in . . . got a call the other day; apparently, there is a defect with the airbags and they need to be replaced.
@ david – I’m with you. There will be no TV for our kid. We went out last night and looked at baby stuff . . . started deciding right on the spot which kinds of things we will not buy or allow other people to buy for us–no pink or blue frilly stuff, no toys or products of any kind with TV or movie characters on them, no ADD-inspiring blinky toys, mobiles, playsets, etc that overstimulate, and on and on. It will get wooden blocks, books, and love. (My fiance says, “it will play with rocks.” LOL!)
@Mep, the first step is to get rid of your telly, I got rid of mine 12yrs, why invite the enemy into the heart of the home. The telly is such an insidious and heinous diabolical contraption, Marx said religion is the opiate of the people, I disagree, take that monstrous box out of the corner of your room and fuck it out of your home, exorcism.
With the new budget forecasts coming out of the Obama administration showing deficits until the cows come home, it’s time to face a troubling truth that we tried to forget in the prolonged sigh of relief of his presidential victory. There is no money for universal “conventional” health care, no money for moon voyages, no money to maintain highway infrastructure. We reside within an entrenched economic system that only values growth at a time when that growth is no longer a possibility.
In an interview with Bloomberg Television today, Nouriel Roubini said he expected the S&P 500 to remain “flat over the year.” Once the stimulus runs out mid-year, he said, the stock market is likely to plunge:
WE NEED MORE – MORE OF THE US GOVT RUNNING THE ECONOMY
Read this story and see how effective Government is in managing complexity. Now only if we could extend this “machine” of efficiency throughout all sectors of the US Economy!
@ ronron – Yes, lotsa work. Right now, the hardest thing is cutting way back on coffee, tapering off of cigs, and remembering to eat a little bit of food every couple of hours. I watched a documentary last night about consumption and marketing to toddlers and kids . . . that’ll be a huge challenge in the future: fighting off the marketing vultures. But in the meantime, it also ties in nicely with Max’s comments about the dumbing down of America and the decimation of culture. So if anyone is bored and looking to kill time, check out the doc. Consuming Kids. It really paints a frightening picture for the future of America. (Lucky for the corporatists, they’ve created a generation of corporatized consumption zombies/ addicts who will likely not resist them.)
Wondering if anyone outside of the US can comment on whether the same type of thing is happening where y’all live?
It’s interesting that society is always referred to as country or nation(national interests)….incorporation. Clearly, the histoouuy of the world indicates that Society is not geographical nor is it grammatical.
Society is composed primarily of “family”. The STATE is the deletion of the family. All “economy” (greek household) derives from the family…only at that level; does “economy”…the organization of society exist.
Hegel, only in an industrialization wunderlust ; imagined the MODERN STATE via Clasewirtz….. Via Napoleon; conjured up LEVEE EN GRAND MASSES…..as the ability to go to total WAR….to subjugate all of SOCIETY…. for the purposes of WAR..
Industrilization is code for WAR.
War is code for conquest, confiscation & monopoly.
War is Transfer; not exchange.
War is simply exploitation, extraction, ex-propiation…NOT EXCHANGE.
The “debt” regime replaces EXCHANGE…as those “monopolized must appear to remain “exchangeable”…..debt is an affirmation of the lack of balanced “exchange”. And the presence of PURE TRANSFER from the NON-POLITICAL(slaves)…to the POLITICAL(masters).
Sadly, the deformation of Christianity, Democracy, Capitalism resulted in massive INVERSIONS.
St Paul is much to blame…”masters be generous; slaves be obedient”.
@Phil,..RE: Squash,…
I noticed when riding my bike, how my awareness steps up several levels, not unlike the squash analogy.
Also, when a fighter pilot is trained, the same thing.
So it makes you wonder about road safety, they tell you,..slow down for your own safety. I would have thought it more advantageous to train folk more intensely to speed up the brain!,..but that’s another debate : )
A dumb, slow population are easier to control, huh,..wouldn’t want an acute aware population on par with a fighter pilot, would we.
Max…..money outside of the STATE….what are you hallucinating???…whatever you got; whatever form it’s in…. they can take…that’s the point….that’s the problem. All is INCORPORATED; all is SUBORDINATE, SUBSUMED.
…Could our brain be compared with the TV set that electromagnetic waves (photons) receives and
transforms into image and sound, as well as with the TV camera that image and sound transforms into
electromagnetic waves (photons)? This electromagnetic radiation holds the essence of all information, but
is only conceivable to our senses by suited instruments like camera and TV set….
Interesting article !
Me ?
I have always been of the opinion that what we believe we experience is purely the result of how our
brain works … as a receptor… as suggested in the above piece.
IIRC, I posted something about this over 1 year ago here !
( when Sharon was around )
As I cannot find the post , I’ll try and explain again FWIW :
I had a few car crashes when I was young, and in each case, “time” seemed to pass in VERY slow motion.
A little like watching a film in slow motion. This is because the brain speeds up during the crisis; or
in other words, our “concentration” increases immensely.
I always had the same experience during squash matches and tournaments – when retrieving the ball out of
the back corners … a highly precise action that requires immense concentration.
In order to do this properly and conistently, the brain speeds up such that I literally can see the ball
in slow motion = absolute concentration.
**** Small squash explanation …
A squash ball going into the back corner is invariably what we call a “perfect length”, whereby the ball
literally rolls along the side wall and sticks to it like glue, even after bouncing off the back wall.
To get “into the corner with the raquet” is a technique which requires two actions :
a) the standard squash stroke
b) moving your right should quickly in-and-out of the corner
The overall effect is that the raquet “trail” takes on a hyperbolic or elliptocal shape, whereby at the
“tip” of the ellipse, your raquet-head should now be just “millimeters” away from the corner-walls.
Once the raquet is tightly in the corner, you are then moving “out” with your shoulder, and taking the
ball with you !
**** End of small squash explanation …
Back to the point :
Imagine a brain that ALWAYS worked at this level of concentration … I suppose you would regard such
people as gifted.
Well, people like Einstein, Beethoven and other musicians probably had similar but “continual” experiences.
Some expert drummers like Buddy Rich could play rhythms like 13 / 23 … impossible for most of us !
Example : try tapping your left hand 13 times and your right hand 23 times … at the same time within say a 4 second period.
To do this – 13 / 23 – you would effectively have to concentrate in time-units of 13×23 = 299 .
The left hand would tap every 23/299s and the right hand every 13/299s !
In fact try a simple 7 / 5 … that’s only a concentration level of 35 !
Oh sh*t .. just realized I’m ranting on.
I’ll never get finished …so that’s it FWIW.
@Bonn’s gonna be pissed when he finds out about aspertane. look out. hahahaha. snoot never talks about aspertain. please snoot, stella i need you like never before. hahahaha. i love snoot.

The Brits are great at rearing peasants have been doing it now for eons. Although in fairness there was a lot to be said for feudalism, shorter working week, tight-knit communities, free thought free speech.
Has the American south risen, are we seeing the return of the plantation and the slave owner, my understanding of the American civil war was that it was between southern slave owners who supported free trade especially with the UK, and the northern oligarchs who were protectionist, the yankees won the first round, seems like round 2 is going south.
One foot in the grave, the other on a bar of soap.
Indeed what Max said and has been saying all along is that the banks still have their losses on the books in the expectation that later when the economy would recover they could write them off but the economy isn’t going to become much better and more losses are only adding now.
BTW same for Commercial Real Estate who keep old values on their books which are 25% too high according to Willem Middelkoop formal Dutch Financial guru ex financial RTLZ journalist and gold seller now.
Also in the real estate business more losses have to be written off.
The Russians are really just being smart.
They now use 2 systems in the hope that if the ruble collapses they will still have the dollar. The guy you talked to is one example.
@Max
With all the under developped mining deposits in Magadan and Eastern Siberia you should float the idea to your russian economist. The rubbble should be back by a small amount of convertible gold. The best way would let’s say guarantee that 1 rouble woul ge backed and convertible by a guaranteed 1/100,000 of gram of siberian gold. This solid as gold guarantee would be quite sufficient to stop the stupid habit by Russians to deal in US dollars. Just a small amount would suffice to cut the crap with the US dollar. There is really a lack of imagination in Russia. Russia could even issue bonds payinf interest in gold onces. I am sure people would be interested. The gold deposit in Eastern Siberia and Magadan are still enormous and under developped. Completely stupid.
the only class war; civil war…the world has ever known; is that titanic eternal clash between POLITICAL NON-PRODUCTIVE POWER…..AND…..NON-POLITICAL PRODUCTIVE LABOR.
IN THE LARGEST SENSE; THIS IS A BATTLE BETWEEN THE STATE & SOCIETY.
SOCIETY IS NATURALLY PRODUCTIVE.
THE STATE IS NATURALLY DESTRUCTIVE.
WHAT SOCIETY PRODUCES….THE STATE BOTH CONSUMES & DESTROYS.
THE STATE HAS NOTHING TO EXCHANGE; OTHER THAN FORCE(MURDER & ENSLAVEMENT).
Lenin & others were great admirers of Lincoln. All worshiped Hegel, as did Lincoln(funny for a po’or boy from Illinois; hey Obama). Hegel’s hero was of course; Napoleon. Napoleon’s hero was Ceasar. And Ceasar’s hero was Alexander. Alexander’s hero was Plato. Plato’s hero was Pythagoras…and so it goes.
The Biggest Trojan Horse of all Time The wall fell in Berlin: so that it could be put up worldwide. Bolshevism fell to Amerikanism….a much easier TOTALITARIANISM to sell(at the time).
It’s kind of funny that Stacy laments the Red team/ Blue team mentality when talking about the Drudge Report but (of course) forgets to mention the Huffington Post. (which, as any fool knows, practices exactly the same style of ‘journalism’.
Education in your society ? Boy. Most people are effectively PIIGS. Thanks for not forgetting the PIGS from United Knuckkleheads. UK morons. It’s abosultety true what you said about Spain. Never accept funny money from an crack addicted bankster addict. I see another -50% in spanish real estate.

Why don’t you get Deek Jackson (UK) in for an interview.
He’s a great artist that is constantly working hard against the tyranny of big corporation, govt. etc. etc.
I’d be very interested to hear him speak .
I’m sure you’d have much in common in terms of views !
FWIW
@Stacy: curious comments about driving in russia. I always thought that our drivers are particularly disrespectful of pedestrians. My experience is that they never stop to let you cross the street, even if the light is green. Maybe only New York’s drivers can be compared in their despise of pedestrians. As to why people don’t shout at you for double parking, my guess is that you never know who is that other guy – people just don’t want to get in trouble. What if he has fsb ID card or something, = higher social status than you.
Love your show!
@Stacy..
@Snoot..

@febo
@underfundamentalist
I deserve to bear the burden to the extent I did not get out on the streets and protest. That’s my point. It’s easy to hand the decision off and then complain when it doesn’t turn out.
@ Max or Stacy – So what is the common exchange currency in Moscow for most transactions, Rubble or Dollar? Or are merchants indifferent??
@febo “I’d hate to bear his burden.”
You are bearing his burden,
Blair is not.

“EU/IMF REVOLT:
GREECE, ICELAND, LATVIA MAY LEAD THE WAY”
http://www.webofdebt.com/articles/eu_imf.php
Like movies? … Watched “A Simple Plan” last night … basic plot, how money changes everything.
Nice posts ya’ll, learning from them everyday …
@snoot – Greece and Iceland are totally different stories; the spreads on Greek debt were widening over German debt long before anything Fitch did anything
The dollar, Stacey, is protected at present by the inclusion of the dollar in the sdr basket. The elite do not wish to implode their own assets. A strong dollar supports EU export: a vital ingredient in the furthering of the currency controllers’ interest. BIS is located in Basel.
The system plays into the profit of the few at the expense of mankind.
@Stacey:
But fundamentally, some structural reforms are needed.”
http://www.imf.org/external/np/tr/2009/tr100109.htm
Three items at play: exit of government liquidity and stimulus; debt escalation through interest hikes; ‘reform’ of the structure of governance in favor of sustained interest payments to banking elite.
The Greek dllemma is one of corrupt goverment official, escalating debt, and unfair transfer of wealth form public to private purse. Here’s one of the ‘projects’:
http://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:mDqsPGckCysJ:europa.eu/rapid/pressReleasesAction.do%3Freference%3DBEI/10/6%26format%3DPDF%26aged%3D0%26language%3DEN%26guiLanguage%3Den+eu+loan+to+greece+2008&hl=en&gl=us&sig=AHIEtbSKQ5unrrO5hACtHC2HGUbitLLylw
What would happen to the dollar in that situation?
this reminds me of goldmansachs selling customers stocks then betting against them. join our union so we can royally fuck you.
The EU is demonstrating a complete lack of humanity and an overstepping of their jurisdiction: takes some ‘gaul’ to do that!
Greece and Iceland stand set to suffer under onerous sanctions put in place by independent bankers: what difference Stacey if the bankers are affiliated with large or small interest?
Are you disfavorable to Vikings?
France is applying a siphon to Greece.
The system is lopsided and skewed in favor of the ‘inner circle’.
@Stacey:
Outrage is directed at the bankers who are set to decimate Greece in service of European interest fees which are directed by downgrades through the Fitch rating service. Fitch serves French interest, doesn’t it?
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/dec/08/greece-credit-rating-lowest-eurozone
It is insane that Europe lets itself be thrown into internal conflict over its unity..
Greece won’t refuse:
http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-20100114-706306.html?mod=WSJ_latestheadlines
Also Iceland is a lot easier to push around not being part of the EU or have a large population relatively speaking.
@snoot
The outrage will come when Greece refuses and then Greece is called a terrorist nation.

“Usage of Piigs grew following the rise of the BRICs acronym for Brazil, Russia, India and China, coined by Goldman Sachs Group Inc. Chief Global Economist Jim O’Neill to describe four of the world’s biggest emerging markets.”
Well, that figures.
Who coined the acronym, ‘piigs’?
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601109&sid=a.eowWPTrbNI&pos=14

And the deadline for the UK would be 2013-14.”
http://www.jusline.ch/index.php?cpid=0920e51183510618590069d5c148aec4&feed=1552
http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/294254,brussels-challenges-france-with-deficit-deadline–summary.html

@Mike
Breakdown Of The Gold Market

@Stacy … 1998 … no cash for 10 months
@47.10 Russia

Bah Freud was a fucked up coke head and crazy.

They need love and stability, it pains me to see good people fuck up their kids by giving them what the adult thiks they need as opposed to what the child needs.
http://www.artemisia-gentileschi.com/images/Madonna-Child.jpg
It is not only with the breast that the mother feeds the child, it is also through her gaze, there is an unconscious (pre-verbal) communication going on, the child is being nourished on love.
Regarding misleading unemployment figures, I always wonder why the actual employment figure is emphasised and quoted more often. It would be interesting to see how that figure has changed over time.

Hitler went to school on Lenin. Stalin went to school on Hitler. The Amerikans went to school on all of the above. You are what you eat.

@ Max – On the idiots in the media, ever since John Stewart outed “idiot” Gretchen Carlson (of Faux & Friends) as being a prostitute for the oligarchy, I wonder how idiotic these people really are.

Rectification: “Willem Middelkoop (not formal) Dutch Financial guru ex financial RTLZ journalist and gold seller now.”
war up. gold up. fuck.

Plato’s hero was Pythagoras…and so it goes.

as always cheers for the show!!!
The Spanish got infected by the stupid Brits. Never thaught about that. But it’s true. The bubble was caused by this Brits in the first place. Stupid Spaniards. @ME – that is some scary stuff. DARPA pushes the envelope of the technology. But pushing the evolutionary on biology can have an impact on the human race.
The NIH and NSF needs to step on DOD and get the DOD out of the life sciences business.
@Mother … DARPA
Made me think of Blade Runner … and someone else commented the same !!
Darpa is investing $6 million into a project called BioDesign, with the goal of eliminating “the randomness of natural evolutionary advancement.”

Why don’t you get Deek Jackson (UK) in for an interview.
He’s a great artist that is constantly working hard against the tyranny of big corporation, govt. etc. etc.
I’d be very interested to hear him speak .
I’m sure you’d have much in common in terms of views !
