Not a question of demonizing anybody. Health is number one. A diploma and education is just a worthless of piece of toilet paper if it cost your life and your health or your mental sanity. Smacking kids is wrong; people who hit their kids have lost control and are lacking in communication skills. They are frustrated and lash out because of an inability to cope with difficult situations that need talking through – and what is that teaching their kids?
Its a well known fact that scandinavian countries, where hitting kids is illegal, have lower rates of violent crime and more social cohesion.

I’m capable of understanding the complex decisions that people have to make. I don’t live in a black & white world or pretend to. And I’ll leave it at that, because I could lay into you in such a way that you’d be embarrassed to come back here using your handle, and I don’t feel like doing that. No sense in getting upset or starting a flame war over a relative stranger’s simplistic view of the world.

On diplomas- these days, I always suggest that along with the fancy piece of paper, that students learn practical skills, especially repair-related skills. When SHTF, the diploma will not burn long enough to be of any use. Someone who can creatively patch together the household plumbing or the family auto will be much more in demand.
On German- (which is my second language) I found it remarkably easy to learn, and a great deal easier to spell than English. It is a wonderful research language, because of its precision.

Frances couldn’t tell the difference between Swedish depository receipts (SDRs) and Special Drawing Rights (SDRs).
I recall, when challenged on specific points, frances has specifically denied any expertise on monetary matters, and when asked also had no constructive proposals for reform, despite expounding at length on the subject.
There’s a big difference between indiscriminately copying and pasting the results from a search engine, and actually bothering to read, let alone comprehend, whatever turns up or take on board others views — like suggesting Martin Wolf ignores SDRs when he’s actually testified to a US Senate Committee on the subject.
Then there’s the basic misunderstanding of the international system of sovereign states, but that’s just another dimension to the general misunderstanding and needless mystification of the international politics and economics.
