I don’t know it it is the same as when I went to school in the 70′s but in Quebec you finished High school in Secondaire 5 (grade 11). If you wanted to go to university it was two years at CEGEP. If you wanted a trade you went to technical college right after high school. So I guess it is all the way to 13 if you want a so called higher education.

@ Phil – Teacher salaries at the high school average $72-78k. Apparently 50% of the students at the school are failing all of their classes, and the graduation rate is also under 50%. In an effort to turn the school around, the superintendent requested some changes be made whereby the school day would be slightly extended, teachers would perform some extra tutoring, etc.
The union balked and refused the terms, so now she is firing the entire teaching staff of the high school and replacing them. This is yet another example of unions digging their own graves by refusing to negotiate or accept reasonable terms.
OMG, this Jason guy is a fucking dick! Did he consider that the most likely scenario is that the teachers would NOT be compensated for spending even MORE time with kids and doing even MORE work? No, because the easiest thing for people who have NO IDEA of what teaching actually entails is to blame teachers and unions for the failures of society and parents. Sorry, but extending the school day and spending more time tutoring will not help erase POVERTY.
