[KR19] Keiser Report – Markets! Finance! Scandal!

Stacy Summary:  The Keiser Report with Karl Denninger as special guest. This week we report on the scandals of George Soros and the IMF shaking out the gold market; US bank lending falling at the fastest rate in recorded history; and the trickle up unemployment pyramid. 1. Hi Max and Stacey,

Am I the only one having problems viewing this video? I’ve tried here, at Youtube, and ant Jessie’s and can’t get it to work. Always, love your show so it’s maddening that I can’t watch this report.

  3. I think the last thing Denninger said was the most important. There could be a war with China. It seems like the only way the US can get out of debt. Paying off those $trillions in debts to China just isn’t going to happen this century with the US economy what it is. But if US declares war on China then this is a valid pretext to cancel that indebtedness. What pretext for the war? Well, Taiwan would be enough. China could invade Taiwan, the US could mount a weak defense, but basically both sides would see this as a great deal “debt for Taiwan”

But to keep up appearances, there would probably need to be a shot or two fired somewhere in the S. China Sea. Its a bit like the “War” between the US and Spain in the Philippines.

  4. “UNITED NATIONS, March 26 (Reuters) – A reserve currency system based on an IMF unit instead of the U.S. dollar, a proposal floated by China, could be phased in within a year, Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz said on Thursday.
Stiglitz, a Columbia University economics professor who heads a U.N. expert panel analyzing the financial crisis and recommending reforms, addressed an issue that became a hot topic this week.
Asked at a news conference when the International Monetary Fund’s Special Drawing Rights (SDR) could replace the dollar as the top reserve unit, Stiglitz replied, “It could begin to be phased in next year.”

I posted this before, ronron. Why do you assume I’m being imaginative?

  5. ronron:
You need to do some research for yourself before you dismiss me so casually: this reality will soon exceed all your expectations and not in a positive way.

  6. ronron:
It’s the unit of account of the G20 banks with the new system of reserve to be in the sdr/unit, ronron. It is at the center of the international financial system and at center of the power dynamics of the 21century.

What Medina did was just awful. I listened to the tape. She agreed with the inteveiwer that anyone who believes the government was complicit in 911 is a dispicable person. Jones never asked Medina what she thought about 911 on his show because he knew it would be a ligtening rod for the campaign. Jones never asked Ron Paul about 911 for the same reason. Ron Paul does not think that the government was complict in 911,but clearly says that people who do are not dispicable, they have a right to ask questions and a right to say what they think. All Medina had to do was to answer the question like Paul ……..but she didn’t. It’s really bad. It’s for sure now that Austin is going to get another globalist in as governor and the New World Order carbon taxes are going to start being pulled out of the hides of people of Austin, Texas.

It also looks like the plane flying into the IRS offices in Austin is another false flag. The government is really going after Jones and all people who think that the 911 event was a false flag.

  14. Hey Max, I have an education in dealing with duplicitous market makers having been in the market from the mid 80′s. Let me offer this theory based on my experience. England sold most of their gold at multi decade lows!!!! Who do you think they sold it to? They have stripped the various holders of the physical bullion and horded it. They know better then anybody that the currency scam is destined to implode. History has repeatedly shown us this. Max besides being entertaining your are in the top of the class on knowing your stuff. Keep on keeping on. Thanks

  15. @Snoot. how much do the debtors get paid percentage wise from the SDR? you know the owners of the debt based fiat currencies in the easter basket. ;-)

  16. @Snoot. the SDR may not be as significant as you think is what i’m saying. how could it have any cloat on the world scene. it’s debt. owned by iran china etc.

  17. The site talks about the US dollar value of the sdr: but the value of the sdr is being used as a pricing unit already:

“Because of its inherent equilibrium relative to any one currency, the SDR has been used to denominate or calculate the value of private contracts, international treaties, and securities on the eurobond market.”

    http://www.allbusiness.com/glossaries/special-drawing-rights-sdr/4947095-1.html

  18. Max: In the MBSs, with their layers of tranches, rumors surface from time to time that mortgages were duplicated, again and again, to create more of these insatiable monsters. Anyone doing work on that aspect of “documentation” from lien-holders in challenged foreclosures?

    Thanks Max

  19. I don’t ‘think’ I understand, ronron.

“the SDR was redefined as a basket of currencies, today consisting of the euro, Japanese yen, pound sterling, and U.S. dollar. The U.S. dollar-value of the SDR is posted daily on the IMF’s website. It is calculated as the sum of specific amounts of the four currencies valued in U.S. dollars, on the basis of exchange rates quoted at noon each day in the London market.”

    http://www.imf.org/external/np/exr/facts/sdr.htm

  20. Hey, check it out. We can end the war on terror and make peace with the Muslim world. Just put everyone in jail! They hate for our freedom, so they should love us once we’re all incarcerated. Plus we can rebuild our manufacturing base by utilizing prison slave labor. Bam! That was easy!

  21. @Bonn, For daily purposes, you only need to learn about 2,000 Chinese characters, and those in turn are made up of only 214 radicals, or constituent characters. To read a whole newspaper, requires about 4,000 characters. Classical Chinese does have the 10′s of thousands of characters you mention, but those are rarely encountered anymore outside literature. Even the less commonly used characters from Classical Chinese are made up of the same radicals. Chinese, and Japanese, learn to read and write Chinese characters by the time they’re 12. How many native speakers of English ever learn proper punctuation and spelling?

  22. Karl Denninger.. “How Long Before You Wake Up, Politicos”.. features a very sobering assessment of the currant situation: we are in a depression. Also features a direct appeal to America’s 150,000 cops.. VS 1,000,000 heavily armed gang bangers.. all because of insane, worthless drug laws that benefit nobody but shysters and hoodlums..

  24. Oops,

  25. Sdr stable, ronron, as its value is an amalgamation of the four currencies going upsey downsey.

  26. @Commonsense,..”The Village”, very good “Plato’s Cave” analogy!,..

  27. @Snoot. tats wat i said. SDR up, food, clothing, gas, insurance. etc. up. means the dollar down. or whatever currency they give you in 5 or 10 years. ;-)

  28. @ronron:
One goes down another goes up and the stories continue.

  29. @Joe;
Did you ever notice how all the currency has somebody’s picture on it? Mostly they are queens and kings or other icons, but ours is special. We get money with pictures of the emissaries or agents of someone. The money has writing on it too: “In God We Trust”. Well, the problem with money and truth and surety is that it is a pretty sure thing that the somebody that the guys were emissaries for is the somebody that owned the money and the emissary and the god in whom we are supposed to be trusting. And we all work (unless as Supergeek indicates we spend time here being unsuccessful) at getting more of this money and keep on trusting the system that gave us god, money, and those founding fathers to boot. Some figure gold is a tangible hope; but the price of gold is fixed within the ‘god we trust’ King James1-whirlygig.

  35. The IMF is used as the agency which goes into a country to bail them out. In effect they actually bail out the banks as the loans are never given to the country but directly to the banks which own the debt. Payment is then secured by the taxpayers by direct payments and by the nationalisation of taxpayer assets EG Utilities etc.
Our spineless, supine, emasculated, idiotic, greedy, despicable, debauched political class good easily resist the bankers. Mao said it and it remains true, power grows out of a barrel of a gun. All it would take is one true leader to turn the tables on the vampire class—Im still waiting

    Re: IMF gold
We know that IMF were to sell 404,3 metric ton gold and that 200 ton went to India, 2 ton to Mauritius and 10 ton to Sri Lanka have already been sold. Why is this sale of the rest 191,3 metric ton gold so “shocking” or taking everybody by the breath when announced? We know this was going to happen, we only didn’t know when.

  39. Hey Stacy showed the unemployment chart I posted last week!! right on Stacy!

  43. @ frances
Could you disect and give a diagram of this:

“The rest of us are cut off by the currency which separates us from the surety of true reporting of the events.”

It seems there is an effective “firewall” around the puppet masters, but like in the “Truman Show” there’s still… goin’ through the motions, etc. That overweaning sound stage thing waites to the end of the movie.

How’s the currency separate us from the reporting of the sure truth?

Gold Is Driven by Manipulation and Supply Shortages

    http://seekingalpha.com/article/189698-gold-is-driven-by-manipulation-and-supply-shortages

  45. @JoeSchmoe:
Karl is inconsistent with his predilections: he supports a free market but ignores Bretton Woods. How can we have a free market under the administration of ‘sovereign banks’ as he calls the central banks? Sovereign banks? They aren’t functioning on the behalf of the people of the US: are they functioning on the behalf of sovereigns (royals)? If the sovereign banks are above the law, does that mean the sovereigns (royals) are as well? What about the Vatican?

Do we have a class of human that is above the law and operates behind sovereign banks which govern on their own behalf at the expense of humanity? Do the ‘elected’ govern us for them?

If so, then things begin to make more sense. The sovereigns have access to the sdr through the G20 banks/BIS. Scion families as well retain privilege to sdr.

The rest of us are cut off by the currency which separates us from the surety of true reporting of the events.

    I think I agree here:

“Why does Karl clarify his views concerning the Goldman Swaps with Greece with the word “allegedly” and then continue in full-force speculation concerning the motives for the an alleged purchase?”

Now I have only so much to work with, but to me it is right here in this little example of explaining the complexities of current financial wizardry, there is, something weird. These guys don’t want to explain it, they only want to be the big shot in the front of the class. They get to be boss teacher. big deal!

The connotation of ‘stack’ with the morgue and the name Stack seem to derive some illustrative usage evident through the target and the group dynamic behind the agency of the ‘pilot’: it is all so staged that the term ‘life is a stage’ becomes ‘news is staged’.

Perhaps, Bonn, if you weren’t living in India but were living under US tax codes, you might take offense to the use of nonsensical gibberish to forward the elite’s continued and expanding theft of your labor through taxation. The updraft of the stories seem to be that Americans need the IRS to file the forms for us: soon enough we won’t be asked to help out at all. Why bother with the middlemen? Just deduct our wages and keep them as they see fit.

But the added onus of the bigoted rendictions of Stack-ite-ism through editiorial genuflection is almost too much to bear. Before there was any body recovered with Stack stamped on the toe-tag, it seems that his body was borrowed to utilize whatever public sentiment might be harvested through punditry. One wonders if it would be better if the nation had no newspapers at all?

So I thought my post related to the interview, but now I understand that the relationship is too oblique for the moderators of this site.

  79. @ Youri – You’re welcome. I didn’t know that people being interviewed had to identify themselves, either; I learned about it only after an olympic athlete, Sven Kramer, asked an NBC reporter if she was stupid when she asked him to tell her his name and what he just won–she apparently had to ask in order to identify the tape. Video here: http://www.spike.com/blog/olympic-athlete/92740

    It makes sense.

  80. @Will:
I wondered at the reference to Stack and the correlation to the writing on the internet which is spurious at best to source-point and being utilized by every bean-winded writer on the internet to forward some hitherto unknown correlation between Stack, the spurious writing, and their own interpretation.

I suppose one hopes that humans, in general, would not ask for small margins in their search for great truths, margins that derive no substance with something occurring within the realm of what we humans so affectionately term ‘reality’ but rely substantionally on imaginative discourse.

But it seems that people suck on news stories like they are peppermint drops, enjoying and savoring the rumours which they spread thickly through subsequent discursive goo.

Being American, I’m highly offended by the lack of any standards whatsoever for news stories except the unwritten standard of ‘adhering to the policy of the paper’. I’m sure things have gotten worse since our early years as a proud nation: one can hardly find any substantive difference between People Magazine and the New York Times these days.

Of course when I read the Stack documoment, I concluded it was professionally done. By whom?

Some writing that seems simplistic is really very structured.

The only violence I associate with Stack, that figurative giant of the rumour mills, is the violence done to the rational mind in the name of some fast-forwarded agenda.

One can’t believe anything one reads except: “Mind the Gap”.

  81. @ Max & co.

Get somebody that can explain it in simple english. Surely itt can be done, if there is any will to do it. The terms, all arbitrary nomenclature are only too immediately delegated acronyms, as if that was a smart move. After all acronyms may save key strokes, but in the usage, need to be grasped quick, at second nature.
whereas here the terms: collateral debt obligation, or securiterized blah blah, and on and on, never things really crystal clear. What the hell they are. designed to confuse and give up no intrinsic or intuitive meaning, so it needs to be broken down, to basics.
All these guys are flim flam artists at heart, and jump at a chance to strut their stuff even in your venue. Which I (possibly mistake…) as an attempt at “demystification, so Break it down good enough for a moron, then even… pedantic monsters like some of your resident bloggers here can unnerstan it.

    thanks. or sorry, or both.

  88. @Frances – I used “of course” as an idiomatic expression in the sense of “without any doubt; certainly” because I’m pretty sure that most people perusing this site have read Mr. Stack’s alleged manifesto and so would understand the reference I was making. It was more of an assumption than a conclusion, born of spending many hours reading on this site and noticing that many of the people posting here take time and effort to know what’s going on.

If you prefer we can leave off the “of course” as its omission wouldn’t materially interfere with the point I was making in my movie recommendation. In fact, we can totally leave Mr. Stack out of the discussion, especially if it makes people uncomfortable.

  101. Denninger opines about coming violence in one of this blog entries today. There are other commentators saying much the same thing (cf. Faber, Schiff, Celente…); and of course there’s the IRS-airplane dude saying that violence is the only way left. For an opposing and inspiring view of what’s possible, what’s already been done in a situation where a population has overcome Soviet and German totalitarian regimes without resorting to using violence against their rulers, please see The Singing Revolution.

Most people don’t think about singing when they think about revolution. But song was the weapon of choice when Estonians sought to free themselves from decades of Soviet occupation. The Singing Revolution is an inspiring account of one nation’s dramatic rebirth. It is the story of humankind’s irrepressible drive for freedom and self-determination.

If Hollywood made this story up, no one would believe it. And yet this story of hope, nonviolence, and perseverance has been playing to standing ovations in theaters across the country.

I found this movie to be very inspiring as it shows that people can sucessfully revolt without descending to the inhumane behaviour level of their rulers.

  102. @ Youri can ya help me find tat Vid

TnX – Never heard an interview begin with “Can you identify yourself” but it seems to be him indeedy.

  109. @ Youri – Audio of interview is here.

  110. Why does Karl clarify his views concerning the Goldman Swaps with Greece with the word “allegedly” and then continue in full-force speculation concerning the motives for the an alleged purchase?

“French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde, speaking on France Inter radio Thursday, said Eurostat was looking into “how a merchant bank, in this case Goldman Sachs, helped Greece structure, postpone a certain number of debt repayments.”

Asked whether the bank had broken rules, the minister said: “That is the question that we have to ask ourselves and to which we need the answer. And I don’t have that answer today.”

‘”You have to know first of all whether it was doctoring the accounts and if this was legal or not at the time it was done. And if it was legal, it will be necessary to find out whether it was favorable for stability. Probably not. And in that case, how we can avoid a repeat, if those measures already were taken,” Lagarde said.’

    http://www.kndu.com/global/story.asp?s=12003802

Is Denninger speculating on an actual crime or the rumour of a crime that he read about somewhere? How can Denninger be so assured of own his convictions concerning the Greek government’s motives and actions when Largarde, the French finance minister, is not?

  111. @Mep

BTW these pictures of Kissinger are all old ones from March 2006. Try to find the Audio of the interview (if they have it)

It’ll be hilarious if he tries to paint Volcker and the 5 treasury secretaries backing him up as “socialists,” “communists,” “Marxists,” or “anti-capitalists.” He has said all of those things about Obama for proposals far weaker than the Volcker rule!

  117. just wondered about gold. i started buying gold to protect purchase power vs inflation. now im told we’re in for a big deflation event. how does gold fare in a massive deflation? only time we have had such a thing is when gold and pounds / dollars where pegged together. ie 1930′s things are dofferent now dollars rize and fall, gold rises and falls . whats gonna happen in the deflation to gold price?
or i just have to keep the gold, and spend my silver and when inflation finally comes im ok?

  118. @Mep,….Mother’s already posted that story,…on this very page,..: )

  120. oops,.that quote was from John Maynard Keynes,..silly me!

  121. Part of the problem …

    … just a quickie :

Apart from bringing back Glass-Steagall, they should IMO make the following changes on top :

#1 CEOs and BOD’s Salaries should not exceed 7 x their “average company-worker’s wage”
#2 Awards – short-term – of shares and options should be banned completely
#3 Awards of shares after 10 years of successful management – voted by “minority” shareholders
#4 They may buy “Insider” shares with their “own” money .. disclosure on day of buy/sell.
#5 10yr. “Environment Costs” should be “activated” and highlighted in their balance sheets

Too many CEOs and BODs care more about their short-term share-price and renumeration package than the longer term perspective of a company and it’S effect on society,

    FWIW

    OK .. that’s all.

  122. @ Max – Obama’s not in the dark on economic inequality, but for some reason, he refuses to address it. He even refused to address it during the election process. When he was campaigning with Bill Clinton on his side, Bill brought up the fact that inequality is as bad now as it was in 1929, and he actually prefaced it by saying that Obama had asked him to mention it, because he (Obama), himself could not. Also, the people around him aren’t stupid. They know. Jared Bernstein, Joe Biden’s economic advisor, definitely knows. Check out this list of books by Jared Bernstein.

The sad thing is that Washington is so invested in protecting and propping up the top 1% that they’re willing to sacrifice the rest of the country . . . despite knowing, and they must know, that sacrificing the rest of the country will ruin the top 1% eventually, too. Part of my hope for Obama was that since he has two young children, he’d be more likely than others who have sat in the Oval office to actually TRY to make the country a better place for future generations.

  123. For at least another hundred years we must pretend to ourselves and to every one that fair is foul and foul is fair; for foul is useful and fair is not. Avarice and usury and precaution must be our gods for a little longer still.

  134. Here it clearly says: Goldman has come under a barrage of criticism for structuring mortgage backed securities while its traders shorted that market.

This is “Insider Trading” in a way. So if you know your client will default and you sell him an insurance and at the same time insure yourself higher on that default (Using the info from your client that he will default) than in my opinion this is fraudulent. It get’s even worse when you help him default by shorting.

If this is all legal than my name should be Napoleon cause this sounds ridiculous on itself.

Donnow if I nailed it here but got the feelin i am getting close.

Maybe back to Matt Taibbi piece cause he’s the guy with the three brain cells ( I only got two: Food & Sex) all the thinking as to go trough these two. Taibbi actually has the third cell which he can fully employ for the thinking part.

  137. What a miss in Karls story is the shorting part of Goldman sachs on Greece

Goldman Sachs Shorted Greek Debt After It Arranged Those Shady Swaps http://tinyurl.com/y9na8ms

But looking at it more closely it’s a bit more complicated and maybe Karl is completely right about this issue, donnow yet.

Greece Said to Have Arranged Swap Contracts With About 15 Banks 22 February 2010 (Bloomberg) http://tinyurl.com/ybkto7p

What mine major complaint of the whole situation is the use of insider knowledge and the “old boy networks” in the hedging world. If Greece is a client to Goldman Sachs but Goldman Sachs uses this insider knowledge to make profit via via this could be regarded as “Insider trading” and thus illegal.

A junky will constantly remind you of the fact that he’s completely trust able so I don’t trust Goldman Sachs saying in the MSM all the time “what we did was legal”. This makes me suspect that in fact what they did was exactly the opposite and completely illegal but hidden in within the networks of good ol hedge fund palls or somtin.

  150. Greetings from Poland,

Max and Stacy, I enjoy the show very much and watch it as often as possible. I do not know about you and Stacy, but I have taken the ultimate stand by just ex-patriating from the empire.

When listening to you speak with guests, it reminds me of just how vulnerable and naive the general American public is. I have very little background in finance or economics (although I teach in the an economics institution as a sociology professor). Your show does remind me of how the “financial terrorists” are aware of this and have manipulated the public into this crises.

When speaking to students about the American economy, I tell them that part of the issue is the very value system of consumerism has destroyed the world economy. The American economy is based on the ability for people to spend money that they do not actually have. I ask students if they would buy something with money that they do not actually have. Here in Poland that idea is very foriegn, yet the credit card companies have roosted on campuses, just like in the States.

Five years ago, I gave away all of my possessions, left for the Central Asian country of Kyrgyzstan…one of the poorest on the continent. This is a cash only economy where people were dependent and held hostage to the value of the dollar.

Your show reminds me of why I chose never to return to America. I do not miss the consumer values and have no desire to ever come back. Why does Russia Today and Al Jazeera have better news about the U.S than in the States…it is sick but true.

    Keep up the good work.
