I’m commenting regarding your conversation with Ellen Brown. How about Ellen Brown for Treasury Secretary? We can get someone to actually start the solution. I do think you are painting Pete Peterson in an unfair poor light by association. I briefly worked for his company (in the back office) and met him at one of the Blackstone Christmas parties. He is does care about the country and what his grandchildren are going to inherit. He’s not perfect, he was in the room when Nixon decided to go off the gold standard (and doesn’t look like he fought the idea, read his latest book and you might be surprised how much that change was influenced by a textile lobby that bought a lot of Nixon votes), and he did “dump” a Blacktone IPO on the Chinese and the public at what was obviously a grossly inflated value; on top of having the firm pay a substantial amount of his capital gains using an accounting depreciation gimmick. With that all said, he comes from a hard working greek family, was the reason Bush tried to privatize social security, and he did commit $1 billion to his foundation to build awareness on the challenge of our economy and monetary system. Blackstone was founded in an era (that you observed first hand) of hostile takeovers, and they were successful by doing friendly mergers with corporate managements. He clearly didn’t fight the establishment (not many do), and maybe he never will, but will try these ridiculous forced savings plans, balancing the budget, and other minor tweaks that don’t fix the systemic rot.
Maybe instead of subtly writing him off and painting him as the bad guy, you and Ellen Brown could approach him and his people regarding helping orchestrate a carefuly crafted and timed solution of nationalizing or ending the Fed? I wouldn’t underestimate how he might not grasp the real solution as elites like him usually just focusing on tinkering with the system rather than really doing what is necessary. Great commentary as usual Max, here’s to hoping there might be day where we’ll see the end of the great American monetary screw job!
