Hey Everyone,
I know how angry people are with Obama. People are suffering because of the economy. Now we need dope, not hope. Look at all the dope dispensaries that are popping up, well at least here in CO. But I think the President will come around.
After I got the following email from my sister it reminded me that he and Michelle were raised in my generation. We are from hard working, middle-class families where the Golden Rule was strongly enforced. I think that the blue-blood boys blew ferry dust in his eyes, but now the dust is settling.
In case you were not part of the Baby Boomer generation or the Gen X’ers, here was what our childhood was like: The email was entitled, “How did we survive?”
Remember our black and white TV sets and how we had to spread the rabbit ears as far as they go. And how thrilled when Dad finally got the rotary? And we survived with one TV.
Mom used to cut chicken, chop eggs and spread mayo on the same cutting board with the same knife and no bleach, but we didn’t seem to get food poisoning.
Mom used to defrost hamburger on the counter and we use to eat it raw sometimes, too. Our school sandwiches were wrapped in wax paper in a brown paper bag, not in ice pack coolers, but we never got e.coli.
Almost all of us would have rather gone swimming in the lake instead of a pristine pool (talk about boring), no beach closures then.
We all worried about Acid Rain.
The term cell phone would have conjured up a phone in a jail cell, and a pager was the school PA system.
We all took gym, not PE…and risked permanent injury with a pair of high top Ked’s (only worn in gym) instead of having cross-training athletic shoes with air cushion soles and built in light reflectors. W don’t remember anyone getting injured but they must have happened because they tell us how much safer we are now.
Flunking gym was not an option… even for stupid kids! I guess PE must be much harder than gym.
Speaking of school, we all said prayers and sang the national anthem, and staying in detention after school caught all sorts of negative attention. And teaches happily slapped us when we got out of line and the Principal’s punishment was the strap?
We must have had horribly damaged psyches. What an archaic health system we had then. Remember school nurses? They wore a hat and everything.
We thought that we were supposed to accomplish something before we were allowed to be proud of ourselves.
Can you recall how bored we were without computers, Play Station, WII, Nintendo, X-box or 270 digital TV cable stations.
Oh yeah…. and where was the Benadryl and sterilization kit when we got that bee sting? We could have been killed!
And no one got sick from eating peanut products.
We played ‘king of the hill’ on piles of gravel left on vacant construction sites, and when we got hurt, Mom pulled out the 48-cent bottle of mercurochrome (kids liked it better because it didn’t sting did) and then we got spanked.
Now it’s a trip to the emergency room, followed by a 10-day dose of a $110 bottle of antibiotics, and then Mom calls the attorney to sue the contractor for leaving a horribly vicious pile of gravel where it was such a threat.
We didn’t act up at the neighbor’s house either; because if we did we got our butt spanked there and then we got our butt spanked again when we got home.
I recall Donny Reynolds from next door coming over and doing his tricks on the front stoop, just before he fell off.
Little did his Mom know that she could have owned our house?
Instead, she picked him up and swatted him for being such a goof. It was a neighborhood run amuck.
To top it off, not a single person I knew had ever been told that they were from a dysfunctional family.
How could we possibly have known that?
We needed to get into group therapy and anger management classes.
We were obviously so duped by so many societal ills, that we didn’t even notice that the entire country wasn’t taking Prozac!
How did we survive?

off topic, I listened to lindsey williams last night on erskine overnight radio show. And lindsey repeated the same thing he’s been saying for a while that our money will be worth 1/2 of what its worth now in a year. And then he kind of said something different. That the govenrment will take the money out of our savings accounts. Which i took as meaning stocks or any savings accounts.. Someone mentioned it here a week ago. And i wonder if you might be right on how they’ll do it. Could crash the markets. Take it from any money account.

“We learned that he was thrown into the “hole” this past Wednesday and is still there today. What we have garnered is that conditions inside of Ft. Dix are deteriorating ever since a new Warden took over just a few months ago. Many “privileges” have been suspended for the entire 400 person population at the “working” facility that was only designed for 200. It is now, perform your job then hed immediately back to the bunk – that’s it all day long type of routine. Tensions are very high inside, this is an open barracks type of facility with bunks literally so close that only one person can stand between them. You can imagine being locked up with 400 guys day in and day out under more stressful conditions than they have to be and you get a recipe for violence. That’s what happened just two weeks ago as riots broke out inside the facility.
Armstrong’s job inside the prison is as a clerk, this is how he is able to also write while he’s there. What we learned is that they searched his locker and discovered that he is helping other inmates with their legal work – something that is completely legal for him to do, but they claim that he is not supposed to have copies of other inmate’s legal documents in his locker and this is the excuse for the solitary confinement – as yet unconfirmed.
But what we hear is that they also found letters he had written complaining about conditions inside the facility. We also know that certain people in power have taken an interest in his case and that the prison is not happy about that or about the media requests or the papers that he is getting to the outside like this one.
Armstrong’s sister has hired an experienced criminal attorney to go into the prison on Tuesday to find out what exactly is going on. We’re afraid that they may be using this game to brand him a trouble maker in order to justify moving him as they attempted to move him out before. Since most of this is third hand type of information we must learn more about the facts and we should know more later this week – I’ll keep everyone informed.”

You’ve mentioned a connection between Ralph Nader and the Ford Pinto on several occasions. While no one in their right mind will ever dispute that Ford was more interested in saving money than preventing it’s customers from burning to death, Mr. Nader started his career as a ‘watchdog’ of sorts by going after GM for their Corvair (while not being a bad looking car, it apparently had a tendency to shed some of the less important parts under severe conditions, like drive axles and passengers…).
I don’t really know if he ever became a close friend of Ford as he did with GM, as GM eventually resorted to “… hiring private detectives to tap his phones and investigate his past, and hiring prostitutes to trap him in compromising situations…” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ralph_Nader) – I guess they really wanted to get to know him well.
I don’t really know if this makes a difference or not in the world of finance and broadcasting…
