Monday Morning Massacre, Pound Tumbles on Brown Poll

Stacy Summary: At least for today, sterling is tumbling. I wouldn’t get too excited @Mike/Liverpool, as tomorrow it will no doubt be the euro, or the dollar, or the rouble, or the real, or the baht, or the yen, or gold. (This is a jibber jabber thread, too.)

  4. Canada due for “boring is beautiful” budget

    http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/reuters/100228/business/cbusiness_us_column_canada_markets

    TORONTO (Reuters) – Global investors ravaged by rising sovereign risk will find welcome respite in Canada’s March 4 federal budget, with controlled leaks and relatively healthy finances making it a refreshingly low-key event for markets.

    In stark contrast to the Greek budget tragedy unfolding in Europe, Canada is expected to forecast a deficit of less than 3 percent of gross domestic product, the lowest of any Group of Seven nation.

    And Finance Minister Jim Flaherty and his officials have spent weeks diligently stealing their own thunder, pre-releasing major news like mortgage rule changes and stressing there will be no significant new spending or tax measures.

    “It doesn’t make for a great exciting story. But, guess what? For investors, boring is beautiful. That’s the new beautiful,” said Stewart Hall, an economist with HSBC Securities in Toronto.

    “Boring is certainly beautiful against the backdrop of what we’re seeing in some of the other sovereign names.”

    A Reuters survey found analysts expect the Conservative government to forecast a deficit of C$45 billion ($43 billion) for 2010-11, down from the record C$56 billion shortfall Ottawa anticipates for the current fiscal year.

    Analysts see the deficit shrinking further to C$27.2 billion in 2011-12.

    The government said in September it expects Canada’s federal debt-to-GDP ratio will rise to 35.5 percent in March 2011 from 29 percent in March 2009. While not a welcome trend for bond investors, it’s nowhere near the triple digit debt-to-GDP ratios of Italy and Japan.

    Warren Buffett once noted that creditworthiness is like oxygen: you don’t notice it when it’s around. With sovereign default fears on the rise, Canada’s superior fiscal position is paying off handsomely for holders of its currency and bonds.

    The Canadian government now pays less than the United States to borrow money for 10 years or more in local currency. And the Canadian dollar, up 15.9 percent last year against the greenback, recently hit a two-year high against the euro.

    “Canada’s generally viewed as having a reasonably sound fiscal backdrop relative to other G10 currencies. The incremental details on the budget aren’t likely to change that,” said Dan Katzive, foreign exchange strategist at Credit Suisse in New York.

    Hutterites may flout driving law

    http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/cbc/100228/canada/canada_calgary_calgary_hutterites_three_hills_drivers_licences

    CALGARY (CBC) – Members of a Hutterite colony near Three Hills, Alta., say they will drive without being licensed if the government mandates photos on driving licences.

    In July, after a lengthy legal battle, the Supreme Court sided with the Alberta government in a 4-3 decision, saying pictures on driving licences are required for security purposes.

    The Hutterites have argued their religious beliefs prohibit them from having pictures taken of their faces. The religious group says requiring Alberta drivers to have pictures on their licences is a violation of their freedom of religion.

    Interim licences without pictures, which the province issued while the dispute was before the courts, are beginning to expire.

    Sam Wurz, the Three Hills Colony manager, said Hutterite members need the licences to carry on their farming businesses and to provide for their families.

    He said members of the colony face a tough choice.

    “What are you going to do? You’re at the mercy of a government which will not reason with us and we have to obey the government,” he said.

    “We even pray for our government every evening in our church, but if the government puts a yoke on your neck and wants more than our religion will allow us to do, then we have to obey God more than man, and if they lock us up in jail I guess we’ll be locked up in jail.”

    Wurz said the government has rejected all attempts at a compromise.

    He said Hutterites have a long history of disobeying laws that violate their beliefs, regardless of penalties.

    sorry, I know for a lot of people English is the second language, and that’s fine, but for those of us for whom English is our first language, we owe it to others to get it right – we should not accelerate the destruction of language, we should revel in the beauty of the intricacies of linguistic expression: otherwise we really will end up with a vocabulary of 500 words à la 1984!

    However, due to historical reasons

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3166-1_alpha-2

    was not implemented as one would have thought.

    Note that

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3166-2

    does not give

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.uk

    preference but instead makes

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.gb

    formal.

    Ergo, the impact on the currency code

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_4217

    is that GB is used.

  22. ????????
    Bretton Woods artefact?
    ????????

    == Explanation of USD/USS/USN ==

    The US dollar actually has three codes assigned: USD, USS (same day) and USN (next day).

    According to UN/CEFACT recommendation 9, paragraphs 8-9 (ECE/TRADE/203, 1996) :

    8. In applications where monetary resources associated with a currency (i.e. funds) need not be specified and where a field identifier indicating currency is used, the first two (leftmost) characters are sufficient to identify a currency–example: US for United States dollars for general, unspecified purposes where a field identifier indicating currency is present. (A field identifier can be a preprinted field heading in an aligned document or a similarly-agreed application in electronic transmission of data.)

    9. In applications where there is a need to distinguish between different types of currencies, or where funds are required as in the banking environment, or where there is no field identifier, the third (rightmost) character of the alphabetic code is an indicator, preferably mnemonic, derived from the name of the major currency unit or fund – example: USD for general, unspecified purposes; USN for United States dollar next-day funds, and USS for funds which are immediately available for Federal Reserve transfer, withdrawal in cash or transfer in like funds (same-day funds). Since there is no need for such a distinction in international trade applications, the funds codes have not been included in the Annex to the present Recommendation.

    @Marc Authier

    Yeah tnx, I know about the 7 day before getting money and the Doc. (Dr. Brenninger) also talked about it regarding Germany.

    I was just thinking about the analyses made by the Rabobank (=Dutch) Jan Lambregts in the article “Three reasons the euro could fall more in March”.

    I know about the analyses of formal CEO Heemskerk regarding the Dutch market were quiet accurate but I have my doubt about this one for several reasons.

    First of all, like Max pointed out, are the hidden debts through the peak-a-boo (I thought Kiekeboe which is more Dutch I guess) in the banking system. Also the commercial real estate has to deleverage round 25%. Also in the mortgage field everything has not been settled yet and home sales declined 7.2%. An estimated 800 – 1000 banks will go belly up this year. Fannie needs another $15.3 billion and AIG posts $8.9 billion loss. I think I heard that Dubai still has a $80 billion problem.

    Oil will stay low cause China’s economy is slowing down. A lot of companies had taken drastic measures maybe some drastic which may leave room to some growth but it all won’t be that spectacular. Over all the picture still looks grim with States and countries on the balance of falling from a cliff.

    So from which direction has this dollar strengthening suppose to be coming from? Probably the same ol save haven story but the U.S. debt is still hanging a big shadow over the markets so the money could go elsewhere in stocks for the short term and gold for both the short and long term.

    Speculating makes the markets unpleasant for long term investors and savers.

    lifted from hpc,

    I have now started to get information that very, very wealthy people have started to want to invest in gold, having left it really a bit late. They are scared, and are taking huge amounts of gold out of the system to get the physical metal in their possession (remember, the idea of the unallocated accounts and ETFs of the LBMA is that the gold stays in the same vault all the time and just gets shifted around from shelf to shelf or gets a marker pen scribble on it as to who owns it). It is getting to the stage, I am told, that the amount of physical gold in the vault is getting so low that the public may find out what we already know, that the physical gold which is supposed to back ETFs and the like does not exist, having been sold long ago. So the COMEX has started to force settlement in paper rather than gold (or silver).

    From this, we are close to a physical default, i.e. said billionaire wants his gold, gets truculent when he doesn’t get it, and the fraud will come to light in a way that can’t be covered up. This would not happen in any other futures market (such as wheat, or tumeric, say) but is “normal” for the manipulated gold and silver markets. When the default finally occurs, the price of gold, and especially silver, will justify all our interest in the metals.

    Bring it on.

  40. @Max, All

  41. I love how the UK government has revised the GDP growth to 0.3%. We all know this is bs, but with regards to the point Max always makes about unemployment figures being a true indicator on the state of the economy. My father works for a large global engineering firm. The firm is getting rid of 600 employees in the UK office. He told me that after he’s done firing them all, he’s probably going to be fired lol. Anyway cause of the UK laws in firing people they are not going to be let go at least till May so expect the unemployment figure to increase.

    I thought I would share that with you all, not sure if anyone actually cares or how insightful that really was. Just a reflection on the real state of the economy.

    Oil stored at sea could mean bigger problems and prices in future

    … The use of temporary floating tankers became so popular that even the investment banks had begun to charter ships, leaving the market with a shortage of vessels for transporting other commodities. At one point, Citigroup’s trading arm was sitting on a huge repository of crude in the North Sea. …

    … In February, Goldman Sachs calculated that total stored hydrocarbons at sea, including barrels in transit, fell 24m barrels to 636m in January versus 660m the previous month.

    Simpson, Spence & Young reckons the number of tankers used as floating storage for crude oil fell by 20pc in January.

    Meanwhile, figures presented by Gibson showed 112 ships were storing crude oil and clean products globally by February, down from a high of 149 ships at the end of November.

    “One idea on the table has been to issue common bonds backed by all 16 members that would cover the first 40 percent of the region’s total government debt.
    The idea for such a market has been floated in the past, but has always met with fierce opposition from Germany and other “core” countries. They say their disciplined fiscal stance will be diluted by weak members, while their funding cost — lowest in the bloc — will rise to accommodate indebted colleagues.
    However, the scheme could bring benefits for all members. The sheer liquidity the unified market would bring has potential to lower yields for fiscally sound countries.
    According to some estimates, the market could develop into a highly liquid bond class of some 4 trillion euros, four times the size of German bunds, the region’s safest, and a true contender to the estimated $6-7 trillion U.S. Treasury market.”

    A DISTRICT court judge with a reputation for being outspoken has made clear his feelings for bankers, saying he would rather lie in a gutter with a pig than meet one of them.

    “The geniuses running the banks are no different to the geniuses who ran us into the ground in the first place,” Judge John Neilan said.

    The judge didn’t hold back when dealing with a case last week in which a couple owed a bank money from a loan. He remarked that if he ever met one of the banking executives, he would walk away, adding: “I would sooner lie in the gutter with a pig.”

    We talk about gold a lot and there are charts that show inflation corrected data for gold. However, this is never with gold in an equal role, as fiat money has been quite stabile. I wondered whether we are missing an important aspect about the difference between fiat money and gold, and that is that fiat money can keep up with population growth without if being noticable in the gold trades. Only when everybody suddenly wants to own gold there must be anenormous effect of the risen population size, making gold much more valuable than inflation correctd graphs show. What do you think?

  88. Youri Carma

    @Mother Earth

    Yourright gold should be much higher but is lower trough manipulation and because there was no need for gold as money. Actually if the central banks could do that like to destroy gold (See James Bond: Goldfinger – be it for other reasons) cause it constantly spoils there fiat game and they have extra work keeping it under wraps.

    The idea was already in 1968 Gold Telegram http://www.scribd.com/doc/20215562/Gold-Telegram to replace gold by SDRs which would take over the role of gold as underlying asset for the money system but somehow they never fully succeeded in banning gold completely out of their system also because first trust had to be e gained in the new SDR system. So in fact the Central banks themselves have been walking on two legs in the underlying backup assets.

    The Central banks do lie about the gold reserves and keep more gold on the balance sheet than they actually have by double counting gold which was already sold. This for Monetary reasons cause central bankers are control freaks which comes with the nature of the job to keep the balance.

    But during times of stress and war it’s the only currency on which you can rely on. That’s of cause the reason why gold is back in the picture. If the monetary system was all oki doki nobody would even talk about gold.

    The only problem with gold is, and that’s exactly the reason why the left the gold standard, there is only so much. That’s also the reason why it can be easily manipulated but that also will be the reason why gold bullion will skyrocket when this system comes tumbling down.

    Gold isn’t corrosive unlike silver so can be kept for thousands of years without losing it’s luster. This seems just a technical detail but that’s exactly the reason why people trust in gold, they know it won’t decay.

    So whatever people are telling, that gold is only a shiny metal for jewelry, that it isn’t money, gold bubble. It’s all BS and these people are either incredibly stupid or tell you these fairy tells for their own beneficial reasons. Central bankers always like to down play the significance of gold and traders like Soros do it for selfish reasons.

    So buy Gold: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdlOnpAwo_Y

    “Soros is the visible side of a vast and nasty secret network of private financial interests, controlled by the leading aristocratic and royal families of Europe, centered in the British House of Windsor. This network, called by its members the Club of Isles, was built upon the wreckage of the British Empire after World War II…..His hedge fund reportedly manages some $11-14 billion of funds on behalf of its clients, or investors—one of the most prominent of whom is, according to Soros, Britain’s Queen Elizabeth, the wealthiest person in Europe.”

    The process is one of reducing teacher salary, privatizing under charters, including military recruitment, data-tagging students, peer-review for teachers, tied tests to teacher pay, video-taping classrooms, shutting down schools, firing staff, and paying exorbitant salaries to consultants and cronies from the Congressional tap.

    Mish disappoints in his analysis today: ignoring these factors in the Chicago schools which were decimated by Duncan before he left for greener pastures in Washington. Educational innovation and overall improvement will go a lot faster if the charter school limits and funding rules are changed.”

    Newly released Pentagon documents reveal the US military monitored Planned Parenthood and a white supremacist group as part of the government’s security preparations for the 2002 Olympics in Utah. The documents also reveal that military intelligence spied on the antiwar group Alaskans for Peace and Justice in 2005. Other documents disclose that the military illegally intercepted civilian cellphone conversations in April 2007 during an exercise at Fort Polk in Louisiana. The documents were obtained by the Electronic Frontier Foundation.

    She probably saw the electrical transformers exploding across the city, I saw some video and it looked like a war was taking place with explosions abound.

  154. @Happy Dick – it would have been the transformers exploding; I saw the same thing in LA after Northridge; I was out of our apartment building within seconds of that earthquake and I remember, I was the only person out in the street that fast at 4am and a car was stopped in the middle of the intersection and there was a guy standing outside his car in total shock, he turned almost frozen to me and asked, “Our we being bombed?” Apparently, he hadn’t felt the earthquake in the car?

  155. Hi Happy Dick,
    Is that for real? My Jewish husband of 20 years isn’t really Jewish. He’s been faken it all along? And if this is true, how come we don’t have a piece of the action. Hell, I don’t want to work anymore. Worry about my children. Having my daughter come home crying from school because a boy pushed her up against a locker calling her a fat Jew and that she needs to go to a concentration camp to loose weight. My son loosing friends because some parents don’t want their kids hanging out with Jews.
    My dear God in heaven, I pray that people don’t believe in this shit.

  156. @sherbert—ya, exploding transformers are scary … like a bomb in a way

    @Ingrid—yes it is the truth … it is really sad. Here ya go, our neighbors girl, in 5 th grade, walked home from school 5 miles. She was afraid of another student on the bus because of bullying. Her parents will have a meeting with some one at the school shortly about this. Can you imagine your child walking home in 5th grade, by herself, with all the sickos on the roads for 5 long lonely miles!!!!!

  157. I calculate that if we had the same amount of gold in 1950 as we had in 2005 then we can say that then there was 58 gram of gold per world citizen, while now ther is only 15 gram. In reality ther was less gold above ground in 1950 so we need to lower the number a bit, but still it is a factor 3,8 between teh two numbers. That could mean that inflation corrected gold prices should be about 4 times higher than they are presented to be. Anyone agree or care to correct my statistics?

  158. The recent boom could definitely not have happened if people believed in gold, they would have felt very insecure and not spend as much..

  159. How could a week Pound Sterling affect the election in England? or to put it in a different way, who benefits from a week currency in the upcoming British election? “The markets have reacted and are giving a vote of no confidence in Gordon Brown” says the article will the average person react in the same way?

    @Happy2:
    I asked because I taught in public high school and found that the parents relied upon their children’s information, but these same students were messing around in class.

    Charter schools have a worse record for performance: and one can’t categorically eliminate all public schools as failing. There are many many good teachers who sacrifice there own personal time and financial rewards to help society.

    The plan to continue stakes-based testing and to eliminate local accountability will only lead to poor results. It is a proven that state testing tied to teacher pay hurts minorities whom are taught ‘to the test’.

    Obama’s plan for education only indicates a lowering of standards: not a strengthening. The only imagination being developed is the diablolically-inspired Gate’s scion-fund for world domination.

    Max, Please take a look at this letter by attorney Al Hodges to Andrew Cuomo for insight. I will fill you in on the rest. I would love it if you broke this story. This story if made public would end the FED.

    Attorney General of the State of New York
    120 Broadway, 23rd Floor
    New York, NY 10001

    Dear Ms. Brown:

    Thank you for speaking with me earlier today and explaining that Mr. Markowitz was out for the rest of the day. We discussed briefly the nature of my request and you suggested that I forward the appropriate information to your attention via e-mail for Mr. Markowitz’s review on his return Monday, March 1, 2010. The information is as follows:

    . I am a California trial attorney with some 40 years experience in State and Federal Court, as well as other jurisdictions.

    . In January of this year I filed a Bivens Class Action against the five sitting SEC Commissions and five past SEC Commissioners seeking some 3.87 Trillion Dollars in damages for the taking of property by unconstitutionally withholding consent to distribute such sums as had previously been collected for the benefit of 50,000 + shareholders of CMKM Diamonds, Inc.; a conformed copy of the complaint is attached.

    . The SEC Office of General Counsel has agreed to accept service on behalf of the sitting Commissioners; the other commissioners are currently being served.

    . The weight of opinion is that this litigation will not be allowed to proceed into the discovery stages and/or to trial; there is mounting evidence that a distribution of funds to the shareholders is on the near horizon.

    . I am advised that a portion of trust funds previously ear-marked for distribution to support the U.S. Domestic Settlement Fund Program currently in process were distributed to the United States Treasury facility in New York City on December 31, 2009 through and with the assistance of the New York Federal Reserve Bank in New York City.

    . I am advised that these trust funds totaled 4.2 Trillion Dollars and were paid into the U.S. Treasury as and for taxes due to be paid from the trust(s) upon distribution of the trust assets.

    . I am further advised that pursuant to Federal Banking Regulations, New York State Banking Regulations, and the Martin Act, inter alia, the transferred funds could be held without return for a maximum period of time under any circumstances for forty-five days or until midnight February 14, 2010.

    . I am further advised that the U.S. Treasury has not remitted these funds, is still possessed of these funds and more importantly the trust(s) assets have not been distributed.

    . The above circumstances, upon proof, demonstrate serious criminal violations of the statutes referred to above.

    . I represent, at least as the Class Counsel, a number of New York residents who are beneficiaries of these trust(s) and are among the 50,000 + shareholders. I know many of these people on a personal basis in addition to being their counsel of record and can attest to their severe and continuing damage suffered and being suffered as a result of the non-distribution and non-receipt of the afore mentioned trust assets; some of them are also anxious to visit you in person and describe their continuing outrage.

    @Snoot..

    “From what I observe, it is the soccer moms and the teachers that are the backbone of the community round here. Thank the Lord for unions”

    Frances, darling, you are so right. You are now on my list of favorite lady cats.

    Scapegoating, as Max says in the latest radio show, is the way the bankers will respond. Attacking the workers, of course, is typically fascist. The bankers haven’t learned a new trick (socially) in a couple hundred years. And they haven’t learned any technology either, as Max also points out. They don’t know what their front running programs are doing. I’ve experienced this too. The managerial class has absolutely no idea what their systems are doing. They are utterly clueless.

    “Frances, darling, you are so right. You are now on my list of favorite lady cats.”

    Heh, Studs: It isn’t enclosed in a ‘little black book’ I hope.

    i think max is wright when he talk about wall street gang. here is what mike norman say on youtube according to this matterhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4i3XARHHDps&feature=channel

    The BBC got pissed because the Oracle predicted a run on the Pound at the end of 2009. Looks like you were only 2 months off! The jerks at the BBC should have listened to you.

  170. Obama is a fucking idiot. Today, he publicly sided with the board of trustees in Rhode Island that fired teachers and administrators for not going along with an increased workload and longer days (and no compensation for all of the new responsibilities).

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/huff-wires/20100301/us-entire-school-fired/

    Seems like he is TRYING to lose the support of educators.

    @Mep:
    Obama said he was willing to close schools last year:

    http://www.usatoday.com/news/education/2009-05-11-duncan-schools_N.htm

    The whole procedure will be lucrative for the state and a way to shaft the unions back/side. Teacher salaries will be slashed and a lower grade pool of worker employed:

    @snoot
    Well said. Charter schools are just another public to private transfer of wealth. We all know public schools are a mess, but how many of us can afford private school, with or without vouchers. If our teachers were paid more than our cops, perhaps we would see better results.

  173. frances snoot

    The problematic is that there are areas of the country where it is virtually impossible for a school to pass the no-child-left-behind annual-yearly-progress provision. An area with a high percentage of minority or immigrant students is virtually assured a fail. Even areas without a percentage of failing students on the ayp find that students are bussed in to the area schools through a diversification accord provided by Title 1 funding. Three years of no-pass and the school passes into State Board of Education hands. The fact is that the entire public school system is in a tremendous upheaval in the US and the funds are not getting to the students but are siphoned off according to a political hiearchy of ‘needs’.

    Florida passed HB 991, a law voluntarily putting the entire state under Title 1 mandates without the funding appropriated to Title 1 schools. The teachers have no safety net, no respect, and no autonomy in the classroom.

    We are only just entering the chaos.

    @Mep:
    How can Obama talk about “accountability”? What’s his attorney general Holder done to convict anyone since taking office?

    With Obama the criminals sleep soundly.

    Eric Holder?
    “Well, Chiquita claimed that it was merely paying protection money to the paramilitaries in Colombia. But the victims of the paramilitary violence in Colombia claim otherwise. They say that Chiquita was engaged in this systematic campaign to control banana production in Colombia and terrorize the population. And Chiquita was the only company in US history to be found guilty of paying bribes to a terrorist organization, as defined by the United States.
    Eric Holder was the lead counsel defending Chiquita. He’s the top justice official in the United States with ties to this fruit company that was complicit in right-wing paramilitary violence.” Corporate sponsored terrorism? Or just business as usual in the banana republics? Eric knows to whom the patriot act applies.

    我想拼寫無關緊要的人,只要我們溝通,這是,畢竟目標。我只是想使我們不懶!

  180. @susan

    Don’t forget susan; it deosnt mttaer waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, olny taht the frist and lsat leettr be in the rghit pclae.
    But it makes it sooo much easier when it is correct :)

  181. @ snoot @ underfunded – I didn’t realize when the firings happened that the “reforms” being proposed were being proposed so that the school was eligible for funding under Obama/duncan’s “race to the top” educational reform program. Can’t help but hate Obama’s guts today. Nice reform: fire all of the teachers.

  182. the underfundedmentalist

    @mep
    We are witnessing what Klein documents in her book the Shock Doctrine.
    After each shock is applied, another flank of society is attacked by the doctrine makers. It is a premeditated attack on what is left of the commons.

  183. @ underfunded – Sure seems that way, doesn’t it? Have to admit that it’s ironic that teachers are made to be “accountable” for the consequences of poverty, but at the same time, the Obama administration is backing up Goldman, JPMorgan, and all of the other manufacturers of poverty.

    Too bad the unions are sitting on their asses like a bunch of sheep. I think they were promised an EFCA vote if they stayed off of the streets and didn’t engage any more in the health care or banking debates. They’re all a bunch of idiots if they really think that the White House will keep ANY promises it made to them.

    @mep
    The unions here in the states have be decimated, and, what’s left was long ago co-opted by management. The most concessions ever gained by the working class was durring the late 1930′s, when spontaneous sit-downs ran rampant across the country from factory to retail stores. In contrast to organized walk-outs, the sit-downs made strike breaking more difficult because the shop was occupied by the strikers themselves. Once the unions were recognized by law and fdr set up mediation boards and courts ruled sit-downs to be illegal, the people lost a great weapon in direct action. Now, after half a century of corporate propaganda, the freedom to assmble and organize is demonized most by those who fancy themselves the true torch bearers of liberty, meanwhile, our true patriots are on russian television.

  186. @happy Dick

    excellent link on the rothchilds.
    Alot of that info makes alot of sense.

    Thanks M8

  187. @ the underfundedmentalist

    AMEN…America decimated unions, first they Red baited the strongest, vibrant and member driven unions even before 1917….all the IWW top dogs were imprisoned and “died” in prison effectively destroying it…CIO was absorbed and its leadership decapitated….Labor was sold out by it’s top leadership….and as the saying goes in America’s Penthouse they can “always buy half the workforce to kill the other half.” but none of America’s Labor History is allowed to be spoken about aloud…

    watching Glenn Beck the voice of America now….telling me that conservatives pushed to the extreme right isn’t Fascism but Anarchy and only a crazy person would be called an Anarchist and of course the President is Marxist

    great piece by Whitney in Counterpunch today about whether or not Bernie and Greenspan are criminally responsible for our tumble

  190. Jibber Jabber – Iceland, Icesave – Democracy.

    Oh my… what a thriller this turns out to be, Today the Icelandic Prime Minister Jóhanna Sigurdardóttir said to a group of journalists after cabinet meeting, indicated that she would not exclude the possibility of referendum being postponed for a week or two. (from e24.no)

    ruv.is reports a result from the icesave negotiations with the Brits and the Dutch will come in the next day or two and the Prime Minister still thinks it is a chance for success (from her point of view).

    The battle of not having a referendum continues, what is democracy? I’ve been told I have it, living in one though a referendum is not mentioned once in the constitution. In my nations short age of 105 years only six referendums have been done, one about breaking free from the Union with Sweden, one about reinstall monarchy, two about alcohol prohibition and two about European Union and that it. Yeah, we vote every four year on who within a party gets to represent the party in the parliament, It is also said that that person represents the people from the district they come from. In other words I have to give away my vote to a few people who then take all decisions for me. representative democracy it is called. So look at Iceland where the politicians fight tooth and nail to prevent a referendum when they instead should be relieved by it, what is democracy?
