The picture points up the fact that Max (scowling Max) is an old fashioned moralist.. which is why old people like me like him. The fat broads, of course, are bankers’ whores.. (whores of bankers, whores who are bankers).

I said once here that Max is sort of like an old testament prophet.. who after all were social critics shouting out from the deserts, warning the Israelites that they were destroying their own culture by adopting the predatory evils of savagery and so alienating the blessings of G-d.

    Or not. Whatever.

  6. thanks Larry for the pics

the LEFT is not just forlorn I think it is BROKEN…they are praying for total collapse in order to stop this train…serious I read a lot of lefties and they seem to believe we are headed for a cliff and they seem to be willing to roll the dice that the country won’t go RIGHT WING when we do fall

I think we are headed for the cliff and if we go over we will have a Right Wing terror State

  15. what the Keynesians are thinking

“The United States has also experienced six periods of depression. The depressions began in 1819, 1837, 1857, 1873, 1893, and 1929. (Do you see any pattern? Take a look at the dates listed above.) With the exception of the Clinton surpluses, EVERY SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION OF THE OUTSTANDING DEBT HAS BEEN FOLLOWED BY A DEPRESSION, and every depression has been preceded by significant debt reduction….our less serious downturns have almost always been preceded by reductions of federal budget deficits.”

  18. the underfundedmentalist

@charles, you got that right, brother!

  19. @ the underfundedmentalist

I wish I could haunt the inter-net and cool links like others do…but somewhat computer illiterate…and I’m probably lazy

as to why libertarians are so grumpy….I think they are at the same place some Trotsky and Leninist were when “the God that couldn’t fail…FAILED” they truly don’t see the current economic collapse as a reflection of a failure of the Chicago School of economics….they said the same thing when their ventures went south in Chile and the Asian tigers caught the flu….just like the Commies of old who blamed the “backwardness” of Russia for the failings of their religion the Friedman boys do the same here

shouldn’t surprise one that most of the disciples of Friedman had a youthful fondness for Trotsky…and a devotion to some of the worst aspects of Plato

I think it is a reflection of the vacuousness of modern intellectual discourse….these people lived in a society in which their belief system was the dominant narrative so they never really had to question it to thoroughly

as to the other low ranking right wing parrots (who quote nonsense they lifted from Rand, Nozick, Friedman, via absorbing Glenn Beck or Rush talking points)

I feel empathy towards them….they are being ground under by Modernism… the problems they are having is we as a society have increased the enfranchisement of whole swaths of people so their importance isn’t as significant as it once was and the economic order has ground them into the dirt….

this is a problem we will face in the future….the way we have structure the current economic system of production and distribution of goods and services has made a massive portion of the population unnecessary…and these folks will find a home in the Right wing

  23. @CA

Great Charts, shows to what extent the US is being screwed

  24. the underfundedmentalist

    @charles
I couldn’t agree more. I was quoting friedman to point out the hypocrisy. The real welfare is enjoyed by the top 1%, yet they claim to be anti-socialist. If they really were anti-social, why do we hear so much from them.
    Go bernie sanders!
What I can’t figure out is why the libertarians are protesting, they out to be having a victory parade, their policies have won the day! The world has been privatized!

  25. @Cal/Doc. snoot said the same thing yesterday. without the charts. thanks.

The GDP estimates and Unemployment trust fund issues are coupled on the issues at FDIC.

Someone has drained liquidity and the money out of the “system”.

    FIGURE IT OUT PEOPLE.

The full lawsuit can be read there (Jan 8 2010)

THIS is one UGLY stock fraud case…

    (a) Assisted in and approved the retention of Roger Glenn, an ex-SEC trial attorney and drafter of Sarbanes-Oxley, to join CMKM Diamonds Inc. for the purpose of verifying claims value, increasing authorized shares of stock to 800,000,000,000, and supervising from the inside of the company;

Now I may not be a PRO-trader, like Max,
but, when I see Outstanding Shares with numbers LIKE THAT,
then I run away and never look back!!!!

  28. morning folks…

was amused to see the follow up comments from and found this gem

    (in reference to Unemployment insurance)

“A workable voluntary free market solution exists for this problem but government would rather it be a socialist tax fed program.”

from the same person that “the underfundedmentalist” swipes his quote from…always amazed at how fervently people cling to beliefs, even in the face of overwhelming evidence against them…

Socialism is a system of political/economic structures of thought that try to democratize the distribution of material resources in a society…. by it’s basic nature must be democratic…it can take the form of a state driven or a patchwork of small independent distribution points….the reason one may favor this system over another is they desire Democratic participation in decisions including economic and wish to drastic curtail material inequality….also there are arguments if it accomplished these two tenants it would decrease instability in a society

the patchwork of Social Spending programs that Western Democracy have are only quasi-socialist (and things like social security take some of the worst aspects of redistribution, there is no reason why a individual earning minimal wage should be paying for some one who is comfortably retired in Boca)

the main function of these Social Spending expenditures is to act as a safety valve on our economic system….removing the inbuilt pressure that builds from a system that naturally exasperates inequality.(as a society we may have chosen to accept a certain level in inequality because we come to believe that the dynamic nature of the economic system would create the greatest material advancement…thus long term inequality my decrease….but the handlers know from history people have a tendency to be fickle things….so provide them a minimal level from which they couldn’t fall or otherwise the guillotines maybe on the horizon)

so the Government isn’t organized to be a Socialist Enterprise, seriously it is now a wholly own subsidiary of the financial interest in this society coupled with some Military industrial

as to the wonders of the Free Market…I am serious I haven’t a F@#%Ing clue what people mean by this…they utter this phrase as though it is mana from heaven…coupled with Free Trade and such…but serious folks Marx uttered the same buzz words…so they are meaningless

we as citizens have the right (this right comes from where all rights come from namely our willingness to assert our wills) to say what can and can’t be sold or allowed inside our society…if all the wondrous folks who wish people could opt out of certain tax structures or regulation or social spending…I hope they understand what that would mean…you are no longer entitled of group protection nor any benefits from living in the society….that in primitive societies was the worst penalty that a group could bestow on someone….

  29. Greg Nietsky

Hey how you get a pic of my mom ;)

  30. Marc Authier

Who’s the pinup obese behind Max ? Nice humourous touch. Like at the garage.

  31. @Max. something that always confuses me is the statement about the us dollar not being able to convert to gold. the dollar still buys gold. have we actually been on a gold standard hidden by price all these years?

  32. My question is: Why should I not hide in Greece (or any other warm country with good food) if it’s going to be this bad?

  37. @MAX

Apparently WELLS FARGO is getting added in that suit re:CMKM Diamonds

    http://www.marketwatch.com/story/cmkm-diamonds-inc-files-motion-to-add-wells-fargo-in-lawsuit-2010-03-01?reflink=MW_news_stmp

Wells Fargo was one of the depository institutions for John Edwards at the time Edwards was selling illegally obtained stock. Our investigation has revealed that an officer of Wells Fargo assisted Edwards in obtaining medallion guaranteed signature stamps on a large number of blank documents. These documents were then used as supporting documents given to our transfer agent to have stock issued and in some cases transferred to Edwards, or companies under his control.

By comparing the average trading price on the day these illegally issued shares were transferred into the Edwards’ accounts, shares so transferred and ultimately sold by Edwards totaled an estimated $57 million dollars.

Where does this $3.5 TRILLION come in?

  38. California Doctor

    great work on that graphic!

Gold appears to have Max’s back.

It’s hard to argue with a graph that looks like gold does in the last 2 years.

  39. the underfundedmentalist

“if you pay people not to work with money taken from working people, don’t be surprised if more and more people decide not to work.”
    Ironically, this describes reaganomics perfectly.
