The weirdest thing to me about calling someone who thinks the government either staged or played a role in 9/11 a “right-wing extremist” is that the type of people I’d classify as “right-wing extremists” don’t seem to believe, at all, that the US had anything to do with 9/11. Has anyone anywhere actually written about the nature of his hospitalizations, the medication he was on, or anything like that? I’d be interested in seeing that kind of info. I’d also like to know if he was withdrawing from any psych. meds or on any new ones. There is a database online full of news stories about shootings, murders, suicides, murder-suicides, and all kinds of criminally violent acts that people carried out while on psych meds or withdrawing from them. @ charles – When you have more time, I’d be interested in knowing what you think about the medicalization of depression. In my early 20s, I was diagnosed (a few different times), given meds, etc. and it absolutely ruined me for about 7 years. I learned how to view myself as a depressed person, how to think of myself as a substandard human being, how to talk about myself as a depressed person, how to explain my every mood, action, inaction, and daily experience in terms of my “illness,” etc. It was an incredibly demoralizing, isolating experience. Took a while to unlearn and extricate myself from the biomedical model’s conception of depression, and to understand why I got caught up in it in the first place.
It’s all coming down to whether you support government (and all its actions and justifications) or you don’t. That’s the dichotomy people are being forced into. There’s just no getting away from it as this ‘false flag’ confusion demonstrates.
If you identify as a liberal/democrat/conservative/republican/libertarian/green then you are FOR some measure of government coercion to serve your interest. No matter where you are along that spectrum, you can – and will – be easily co-opted into supporting something you don’t like because you’ve already been compromised by something you do.
The only way out of this living hell is to get your head straight and recognise ALL coercion (violence, both physical and mental) is wrong and that you will not suppport it.

Yes, libertarians need special consideration. The argument with them is not so much their morality as individuals, but with the idea that the growth of a ‘limited government’ can be restrained. As evidenced by the American experience, even the best laid plans couldn’t restrain the self-serving growth of power.
Simply put, the argument boils down to: It’s okay to beat your kids, but only on Thursdays. And then expecting the parent to restrain themselves on all other days.
The central point is to recognise the use violence in society and minimise it everywhere and forever as a moral principle. As for immediate action – right now, in this crisis, against the speed it’s growing and metastasizing – people just have to walk away from the state as best they can. Starve the beast. The government is not going to be there working FOR you, only against you as things get worse. There’s no sugar for this gulp of medicine, only peace of mind that comes from certainty of principles.

It’s difficult to agree with this as a statement without it seeming like more red team/blue team/purple team nonsense.
If it were presented as an arguement that would reveal how their morals and ethics could be compared, then there’s a more open dialogue. (I know you know the principle and argument, I’m just imagining this as a conversation played out elsewhere.)
This is all very difficult. I tend to stick to violence as a basic moral principle. I don’t think you can be a little bit against or for violence. It undermines the principle.

Progressivism is an elitist ideology to control the masses by encouraging dependence upon the state. I strongly believe that most who consider themselves progressive are really liberal libertarians. Think of Ron Paul as an anti-progressive, small government and pro individual liberties, that is why the Republican Party hates Ron Paul, the Republican Party is Progressive. The US military was never supposed to be truly permanent, save for the Navy and a small land army. Now it is much more obese — and sort of a permanent suicide force. The only kind of obedience is total, not the questioning kind one finds 1788-1918.
With modern weapons, the US military can now exterminate the entire US population several times over — so the upper ruling class (and the hanger ons that give them power) will not be subject to change until the next ice age.
The end run or endgame of this — vast internal dissatisfaction and vast internal instability seething underneath ordinary US life.

Canada to switch to plastic bills next year
They say money doesn’t grow on trees. Well, the federal government has taken that adage to heart — it announced earlier this week that Canada’s paper-cotton banknotes would be replaced by newly designed plastic ones next year.
It’s part of a plan to modernize and protect Canadian currency against counterfeiting.
The new plastic bills, made from a polymer material, are harder to fake, recyclable, and two to three times more resistant to tearing, the Bank of Canada said.
Australia has used polymer banknotes since the 1990s, and an Australian company will provide the material for Canada. Several other countries have adopted polymer banknotes including New Zealand, Vietnam and Romania.
The new notes won’t be in circulation until sometime in 2011. In the meantime, the central bank is keeping mum on what the new bills will look like.
“I can’t divulge that information because they will be issued in about 18 months — that’s a long ways away,” said Bank of Canada spokesperson Julie Girard. “We want to keep a little bit of information from potential counterfeiters so they don’t get a leg up and start producing any counterfeits.”
CBC News wanted to get some local Canadians’ impressions of the polymer bills. Reporter Sandra Abma took an Australian banknote and a classic cotton-paper Canadian bill and asked people on the streets of Ottawa to compare. The opinions were mixed.
“It would be easier to lose, I think,” said one woman, after rubbing her fingers on the polymer bill. “It’s soft and smooth and it could slide out easier.”
“This feels like Monopoly money actually,” said a young man. “It’s like I took this out of a board game and then went to buy Timmy’s with it.”
