  11. well Ive been watching Spartacus the series that is being filmed in New Zealand, we will all become gladiators if we are lucky.

  12. Standard and Poors estimates that British debt payments will increase by
    “an extra £35bn or so in annual interest costs, roughly equal to the UK defence budget. This would play havoc with UK public finances and force the Government to squeeze fiscal policy even further. ”

    And Max was right about off balance sovereign debt emerging:

    “The report said there had been a notable increase in “alternative channels of borrowing” that “embellish” the true debt picture. France’s Société de Financement de l’Economie (SFEF) has issued €77bn of state-backed bonds since 2008 and the Caisse d’Amortissement de la Dette Sociale has amassed liabilities of €103bn. Austria’s infrastructure financing companies, used to buttress state stimulus programmes, have €23bn in debts.

    This hidden iceberg of debt kept off balance sheet is likely to be the next focus of bond vigilantes. ”

  18. @Dork. 58 year old pro carpenter. no work for 3 months. self employed. no pogi.

  19. The Dork of Cork

    @Paganwrongs

    I think there is a material difference between the type of debt between France and the UK – a far greater proportion of french debt stil produces income (although that could change) – the UK goverment debt ratio is still lower then france but in a world of socialised loses the private debt in the british system is being converted into public debt.
    The UK also has greater liabilities outside its currency although they are probally still registering as assets.
    The only thing in the UKs favour is the average term of the goverment debt which I believe is in the region of 13 to 14 years

  20. the underfundedmentalist

    @ronron
    go easy on little timmy,
    he just hit puberty, eh!

  21. I wonder if the fuckers realise that when the people in Iceland say no mean no, not like the no of the republic or Ireland which was a no erm i mean yes

    these fuckers usually take no to mean yes when they carry out their coke fuelled orgies of lust with the cream of sum yung guy

    mon the Iceland

  22. @Dork of Cork
    13-14 years; so it doesnt need to be rescheduled as quickly as say Belgium? I wonder if that is why Britain just doesnt seem to be getting the sense of urgency. There is a real feeling here that a recovery is just around the corner, that house prices will go up this year and most have more money in their pockets than before the crash because interest rates are low. Apart from Vince Cable and Dan Hannan (hey Stacey howabout DH as a guest) no one seems to be spelling out the situation here… and VC/DH have very very little airtime.

  23. fuck geihtner it’s keiser i want. he’s got a lot o explaining to do.

  24. The Dork of Cork

    @Ronron

    Shit the Irish state was about to engage its forces and invade Newfoundland – we were thinking the local populace were friendly and would consider a act of union of our two bog neighbours
    If the Labrador current switches to Ireland (beginning to feel like it ) and the gulf stream switches to Newfoundland we may exchange populations.
    Newfoundland had a independence of sorts until recently right – they were quasi British controlled

  25. @Dork. canada is rich with irish. ;-)

  26. Looking at the airstrike options on intrade I wonder if they could add MACD. I have a funny feeling there might be a positive divergence….

  27. Good grief, Pope may resign!

    “Irish bookmaker Paddy Power said Friday it had cut the odds on Pope Benedict XVI resigning after allegations of child abuse by priests in Germany gripped the Roman Catholic Church…Ireland’s biggest bookmaker, which has branches in Britain as well as Catholic Ireland, said it had cut the odds from 12 to 1 to 3 to 1 following a “cascade of bets….The dark clouds of clerical abuse scandals show no sign of abating and recent reports from Germany are surely a little too close to home for the Pope,” the company said in a statement.

    The head of Germany’s Roman Catholic Church apologised to victims of child abuse Friday and met Pope Benedict at the Vatican who encouraged him to press ahead with measures to root it out.

    As abuse allegations multiplied in Austria and the Netherlands, the Vatican expressed alarm about the gravity of the crisis engulfing the Church this week.”

  28. The Dork of Cork

    @Pagan songs
    Well if you have one more housing boom you will be truly fucked
    I often wonder what happened to the great boffin culture that was such a part of Britain – I am convinced that it is much more then national character but the strange phenomena of creating real money once a debt Mortgage is created – it is such a stupid system , no wonder all the Anglo saxon countries are so fucked up.
    I find it funny that there is a great debate about a railway line at the moment when such vast resources went into housing.
    I mean the only positive thing done by the government in 25 years was the channel tunnel – unbelievable

  29. My sis just bought a house for €250,000. They just won’t listen.
    We are fucked.

    ..it’s with O’Leary in the grave.

    Family homes in Detroit are selling for as little as $10 (£6) in the wake of America’s financial meltdown.

    Do you know if he is the 113th. Pope ?

    The 113th. is supposed to be the last Pope according to (IIRC) Nostradamus.
    Hooray !

  32. Timothy Geithner

    @ronron

    I am not talking about porn you commoner, but erotica. There is a clear difference. For example, sometimes the bald head of Berna…. never mind.

    …”But we can only put the boards up on the windows to protect the property, we can’t be here 24 hrs a day to stop the squatters and the crack addicts from moving in….

    That is of course a major US problem … # of people with access to drugs.

  34. Timothy Geithner

    @the underfundedmentalist

    I hit puberty the minute Glass–Steagall was repealed and have had a hard on ever since.

  35. The Dork of Cork

    @Danny
    Well if we get high inflation and the wages keep up (maybe) and she hasa steady job it may be a good investment – people who bought housing in the 70s got a good deal after they struggled for the first few years .
    Although this could be the mother of all stagflation events and Irish wages could continue to drop – if that is the case we are out of the euro period and if they have any sense they will revalue all debts in cheap punts – could be a good move

  42. @Timmy. son. me. don’t think so.

  43. no closet frank tonight. hahaha. to much.

  44. Please Max. Jerry Brown was a worthless piece of garbage when he was governor.

    Jerry Brown is a Zombie. Schwarzenneger is a Zombie. There are no solutions as the majority of California voters are are either Zombies or members of straight ticket ethnic voting blocks.

    I think Obama is not bailing out the states because the bankers want us to sell off our bridges, roads, utilities, water districts and other income producing cash sources to foreign investors.

    I voted against Schwarzenneger and for McClintock in the recall election.

    The Duck

    This duck walks into a bar, and asks the bartender, “Do you have any grapes”?

    The bartender says, “No we only sell beer here”. The duck leaves.

    The next day the duck walks back into the bar and asks the bartender, “Do you have any grapes”?

    The bartender says, “No I told you we only sell beer, and if you ask me again I’m going to nail your beak to the bar.” So the duck leaves.

    The next day the duck walks back into the bar, and asks the bartender “Do you have any nails”? The bartender says “no”.

    VG program.

    Iceland’s population of 320,000 is the same as many small American cities: eg Bakersfield, California.

    If Lehman Bros – or Bernie Madoff – had set up shop in Iceland, would their fair citizens be on the hook for those losses as well?

    (This week’s guest, Ms Jonsdottir, is a real cutie, and obviously well-educated.)

    ….what a racket

  51. Jerry Brown has been compromised. Forget him as a savior for California.
    All of the State, the Counties, Cities, Pensions bought into the swaps and sophisticated accounting methods that even Col. Kurtz would say were unsound.

    Time to put solar on the roof, plant seeds, buy a goat get some chickens and take care of the family until the unwinding is over.

  52. @ Ingrid
    thanks
    I saw Chilliwack live in Calgary back in 1977; they are really good.

  53. Regime change begins at home!

  54. Does Iceland have any RICO statutes? The Banksters need to be investigated for “Conspiracy to Commit Fraud”. The financial instruments that caused the problems should be scrutinized for their legality or lack there of. If no, then this should set a international precedent.

  55. Howard Beale

    It is quickly becoming painfully obvious that Tiny Tim Geithner is one of the greatest criminals in the history of the human race.

    It’s time to End the Fed and End the Fed Criminals…BY WHATEVER MEANS!

    They are men–a dispicable version of what is known as Man, yes. But they are flesh and BLOOD. Time to END THEM!

  56. @ Fred-Dude, have the garden, working on the chickens. I suppose there is room for a goat, but I would prefer a pygora (pygmy angora) so at least I could spin up the hair.

    i agree; a charming lady.

  62. @EU membership for Iceland

    Just look at Newfoundland and the way it has dealt with oil giants demanding a cut from the offshore oil production.

  63. @derivatives

    What you can conclude from this is that the commercial banking sector is worse off than any government in the G7 and THEIR credit default swaps against commercial banking debt aught to be rising.

    Derivatives are open ended futures contracts with a 20 or 30-year outlook, so you can assume that even the short end of the curve is affected, that interest rates will be low for a protracted period. Very likely a negative interest rate is going to become policy.

    Otherwise, you can expect 200% interest rates or stronger.

  64. Sacramento Joe

    @ Max-

    GO JERRY!!!

    Jerry was a much better governor than people realize. Standards were different back then and we have since all lapsed into a form of political coma. In many ways, even back then Jerry was conservative and pragmatic. His misfortune was getting caught in the early stages of the full blown stupid “Superbowl” like mentality of Dems and Reps. It is such a waste of time and energy. You have spoken of the previous law and protocol of the fairness act in news. Those days are long gone. It will be so cool to have Jerry back at the helm untangling the mess as you say. I just wish his ex Linda still looked hot in roller skates:)

    Keep spreading the truth,

    Regards,

    Joe

  65. Sacramento Joe

    …..and BTW, Jerry is the reason that Clinton won…….Bill stole Jerry’s “grass-roots” campaign and took it all the way to the white house. Jerry deserves recognition for that.

  70. Douglas aka Thunder Preacher

    I am glad to finally see some nuance in this IceSave saga. The IceSave bank’s remaining assets should cover the losses of the savers, the banksters should be brought to justice, their assets recovered, the UK and Dutch governments should cover only the legal losses, the Icelanders should stop killing whales, Iceland should not join the EU because for the valid reasons that Birgitta explained, Iceland should restore their island’s to former glory by reforesting it. Great questions by Max and sound answers from Birgitta.
    @Max: regime change, do you really believe that it will change a thing?

  75. @Fred’s Family

    Hi fred, you make me nervous saying things like need to move out to the country and raise chickens – I live with my young family in London – do you think things will turn v dangerous, mass unrest, or there’ll be no food?

    I’ve never met anyone who’s moved to the country for fear of mass unrest, I only see it discussed here and on similar forums dedicated to the financial crash.

    Is it a rational thing to do – do you know anyone who’s done this – for these reasons?

    @Danny – I’m going to create a separate post inviting questions for David McWilliams, so make sure you get any in that you might want

    @fionns – good one; plus, inclusion in an acronym for financial apocalypse gives Malta a relevance it hasn’t had since the Crusades

  82. CONCERNING ICELAND:

    1 The Dutch and English government payed directly ‘the garanteed’ part of accounts to the ICESAVE clients. This was a strange and irresponsible act, because they knew there could be troubles with it. It was only done to make clear to their people at the beginning of the crises, that the British and Dutch governments were fully behind their banks….
    In the Netherlands has become clear that it was a failure of the DNB to give ICESAVE banking permission and the fast paying back of the ICESAVE accounts was a tric of the DNB to escape the critical public pressure.
    So, the Dutch and British should bear themselves the cost of this FAST pay-out en pay the interest……

    2 The assets of Landsbanki are huge, yet tied to real estate, and not liquid….. its value at the moment is not clear. In my opinion there can only be negotiations AFTER these assets are made liquid!!!! This will take some years.

    3 The English have to cooperate with the Icelanders to recuperate all profits made by bankers of Landsbanki in the last 5 years!!! This will also take some years. Because this matter is of national interest to Iceland, the ex-bankers must be prosecuted as financial terrorist! The ICELANDERS should hire some mercenaries to bring these villans back to Iceland.(the Israeli do those things, why the Viking-Icelanders not?)

    4 The remaining debt must be parted by three (this will motivate the Dutch and British to cooperate!)

    5 The ICELANDERS must start an advertising campaign for communicating this matter with the people of the Netherlands and England. There is already a huge support in Holland for not-direct paying (45%!).

    Jeroen Schonberger.

  83. Marc Authier

    @Max
    I just wonder if people would sympathetic if Iceland was called Zambia ? I know the answer. What about an initiative of that sort for an african country ? Yeah, it’s nice all this sympathy to Iceland. I appove at 100% their popular uprising. But it’s quite different when it comes to south-american countries like Ecuador, Argentine or Zimbabwé. Most Americans and Europeans are sympathetic because they know that the godamn banksters are soo arrogant that in 2010, they wouldn’t hesitate treating the rest of us as an african country or a south american country. Quite hypocritical from all of us. Me included.

  84. Jonsdottir should be elected..The only reason things go as they do is because an enormous number of people want it to..That is such a demoralizing notion..

  85. I Predict it will come out that malware and spambots are government owned operations. They generate a lot of cash, and they are way to well organized to be unsupported..Spambots with piracy protection?

  86. Birgitta was awesome….great show y’all.

    also, why does the Intrade list it as an ‘overt US/Israeli airstrike’? Is it assuming covert airstrikes have already occurred or is it just that proving a covert strike has occurred would be difficult for the purpose of the trade?

    A bounty hunter or a guy from the Russian mafia, ex KGB agent specialized in “vigourous”‘ interrogation techniques would do the trick. You really believe that prosecuting these bums is enough ? Make a real big fire like in Salem and burn the withches and the sorcerers. That way he will able to go to the his money paradise. Soros pretends being a financial alchemist. In the Middle Ages they kings used to torture, behead them or burn them. Maybe it was justified ? In the “Dark Ages” that weren’t that dark, income tax was only 10%. I am starting to envy the serfs.

  90. @ MA
    Couldnt agree with ya more
    But look on ta bright Side they tried to take on an Informed Country Like Iceland
    Hopefully First world countries realize its ta nom of ta day in 3rd World Countries
    And Institutions like IMF must be disolved
    I hope 1st world countrys citizens realize ta Pillage of Africa and other 3rd world countries never stopped
    And all tat nonsense of UN helping is all a Fraud what ever they might show on CNN about UN Red Cross is just complete nonsense
    Tis topic clearly needs more visibility
    Hope RT starts a Flagship capaign against ta UN IMF and all other 3 letter nonsence organizations like WTO etc
    I would start by calling them what they really are

  91. @ fredkin – “Jerry Brown has been compromised.”

    Who hasn’t. We all have screwed up on time or another. The danger lies in trying to hide it. Then you don’t have any control over your past and are vulnerable to blackmail.

    Set your skeletons free – and you will follow.

  92. A comment on Max’ appearance on “Inside Edition” RE: the Greek Crisis…..well, it is in the “related video” on YouTube

    Just thinking….My blood gets up and I MEAN UP….when I think about the History of all these PIIGS. I mean, invasion by the Dannites and occupation by the Pharasees for over 5000 years. The Greek People have had enough, already and are beside themselves with confusion, pain and ennui, a veritable loss of the soul to spiritual forces that take a lifetime to understand…..In any case, insurrection would lead to another bloodbath and the military consequences would strengthen the power of Dann. I propose a “Universal Bailout” of all debt by the IMF (UN is owned by Rothchild)for ALL NATIONS on earth; this will induce a recognition of the universality of Dannite Hegemony over the face of the globe and allow world government to proceed apace with far less bloodshed. World Government? OK, but ….just….not quite so powerfull.

  93. Rick McCartie

  97. aubreyfarmer

    This is a problem that will not be settled in court with gold or silver. The only exchange that will take place to even the score will be an exchange of lead or a rope. If you are too big of a coward to stand up and defend what is yours, thieves will come and take it away.

  98. @Max
    Florida…I couldn’t stop laughing when you said that.
    My mother-in-law would ask you,
    “Max-i-la, where? Boca or Miami?”

  99. I don’t even get what these people are negotiating with financial terrorists and why would they want to join the bunch of crooks called the European Union. The whole idea is so idiotic that only goyims who lost their ability to think could have fallen into this trap. People, just think for a second. A bunch of crooks came to the island and asked a permission to open a casino. Then the Limy bums and the Dutch came to the Casino (lured buy the advertisement to win a lot of money) to play and lost tonnes of money. Now they are asking the islanders to pay what they had lost in the Casino. How more idiotic can it be? Why would the island citizens want to pay a debt associated with a private Casino? If the Brits and the Dutch want their money, they should go after the Casino operator. But if they do so, they will discover a lot of things their corresponding governments want to keep secret. So they found a scapegoat and terrorise it now employing different arsenal of tools-from blackmail to threats. I think the islanders should show them a middle finger. That’s all there is to the story. Oh, and never try to join a bunch of crooks, things will get even worse. Look at the Eastern European countries. Is their situation any better? They are part of the European Union. And yes, allow the Brits and the Dutch to block you from joining the European Union. Actually, ask them to put a date on this block – 200 or 300 years will be OK.
