Cutting off the Cash; and Paying More Than Buffett

Stacy Summary: Good morning! Hope it’s a nice spring day where you are. Or a nice autumn day for those down under.  And, re: cutting off the cash article, I believe Max has been making that suggestion for four or five years now . . . ?

  1. It seems the Obama admin tries to diffuse the myth the US depends on Israel in any way, as Bibi undercuts any negotiation before coming to the US. Apparently Bibi has something up his sleeve, or is bound by his government to ram the bull or be dismissed (like a true gladiator, the more likely scenario)..

  2. First! oh yeah!

I would recommend The Israel Lobby by John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt to y’all. Bloody tough going but very informative.

  3. US will never cut funding to Israel at least not the military spending (90% of funds?)

  4. @Mother – there is no need for Bibi to offer anything; he knows Obama will capitulate, of course; in Israel, it must feel like what it felt like to be an American during the post 911 to pre-invasion of Iraq when the only voice inside America being listened to and amplified was the evangelical, neo-conservative, far right when, in reality, most Americans were far more sane; inside Israel there is a much less cartoon version of the situation than what we are allowed to hear and know outside of the country

@Danny – I think you will find you are second ;)

  5. Yes Stacy – I am. I’m very disgruntled about it.

  7. Israel has been set-up and supported for a reason not to drop them 40+ years later. Neo-cons/wallstreet love war in the middle east (nothing more profitable than speculation on oil/resources, destruction, reconstruction, increasing debt etc.) and ‘end timers’/christians who believe in revelations (are more than 70 million in the US) see all misery in the world as a sign that when the final war in the middle east begins their savoir will return. Beside with hyping Iran to justify ‘military aid’ the people don’t really seem to care that much usually forget about it after an Selection. The fact that everybody is not taking on big pharma but complain about costs/cuts etc. shows the state of mind of the avarage person. The warspending isn’t in sight/in mind Obama even increased ‘defence’ spending. And a candidate who has gotten most money from goldman sachs/wallstreet would you expect he would defend the people’s interest and not pay full price? ok have to admit to pay even more than the fake imaginary debts/mortgages to people who cant afford it are worth is just another slap in the face of Savers/workers/humanright activists. Here’s some documentaries regarding israel: Occupation_101: http://tinyurl.com/yaoushj Death in Gaza http://ow.ly/12zqN Inside Britain’s Israel Lobby http://tinyurl.com/y9n78e5 The Israel lobby US http://tinyurl.com/y868mnv Iran is not the Problem http://tinyurl.com/yhyysy2

  8. @Stacy

Yes, but but, why would the US (Obama, Biden, Whatshisname) go so hard at these settlement (as if they want to level the playingfield for true peace negotiations with the palestinians) if they did not mean to persist? I would agree you can’t separate two fighting dogs (israel and the palestinians) and allow one to keep nibling on the others tail, that tends to prevent them from getting along. The israelis think they have the US by the cohones, but apparently they do not. Where does their power come from at this point ?

Btw, apparently Max could file a human rights case against the global corporations and banks, as they constantly reduce our ability to ‘peacefully enjoy’ our posessions..What do you think?

  9. Buffet | Gov’t — same same. No wonder the yields are tracking one another.

  10. US support for Israel is fomenting anti-American sentiment? Nah, really? Wow. And I was told after 9/11 that it’s because they’re jealous, and want what we have…shucks…

  11. More hype or is the clock running out for Iran? ‘Netanyahu seeks US bombs for Iran attack’ http://presstv.com/detail.aspx?id=121389&sectionid=351020104 I can remember israel saying in 2005/06/07 and even before that they will strike, even practised many times for the scenario. BTW i don’t think iran is ‘good’ the suppression of human/women rights yet the majority is actually a very young population beside they are PEOPLE too; differences can be bridged and we should focus on what we have in common: every person wants food/water/health care/shelter etc.

  27. I dont think cutting off the cash will succeed; I have worked with Israelis in the past and they absolutely believe they are in a fight for their very survival. My grandfather fought the Haganah in the desert and one of his duties was to repel boatloads of Holocaust survivors from the shore. Looking at their history going back 2000 years it isnt surprising. In fact I wonder if it is possible for a whole people – Israelis and Palestinians- to suffer from post traumatic stress disorder, with the Israeli root causes going back centuries.

I support grassroots organisations which are run jointly by Arabs and Jews in Israel – mostly tackling drug abuse – and have come to believe that peace can be built from the bottom up. But it isnt helped by western media (i guess US media is different), UN officials and even peace activists assuming that all aggression is rooted in the Jews and any Arab aggression eg rocketing Ashkelon/Sderot is just a justifiable reaction. I am watching the court case of Rachel Corrie with great sadness and wondering if things would be different now if peace activists also stood in front of Hamas rocket launchers.

    Sigh…

  28. I also saw One Journalist went to Israel to check ta facts of howmany peeps were killed she Stayed tear fer 2 months
ten headed back to USA and just by chance she went through 2 months Newspapers
She found tat there was complete opposite of wat happened/reported during ta 2 months in she was away
When 180 Israel’s were Reported Killed per month when in actual 40 were Killed
When 160 Palistines were Reported Killed per month when in Actual 400 were Killed
She was Appauled Trying to Find tat Vid but I tink I saw tis on MSM I tink

    Hic ;-)

  29. @paganrongs – you can’t equate the rocket launchers to bulldozers; the more accurate comparison would be between Palestinian rocket launcher and Israeli fighter jet; if Corrie had been killed by an fighter jet, it would not have caused as much outrage for as it is, she was run over by a man who could see the human being standing in front of him; and when I visited Israel, I didn’t encounter anyone in my 10 days there that in anyway presented themselves as a victim as the country is portrayed in the US media; and yes there are lots of grassroots organizations there, lots of them, but NONE get ANY coverage in the US MSM; Amy Goodman does a good job covering them, however

  30. Abama pretends to be pissed at Israel for building in Gaza.

Ok, some things do, but not these things.

  31. Good grief Stacey, I did not mean to imply for one minute that the driver shouldnt face the full force of the law if he deliberately ran Rachel Corrie over. I am not surprised you didnt come across a victim mentality in 10 days there. That is the thing with PTSD/paranoia, it often isnt big-eyed and appealing.

  32. @paganrongs – I didn’t come across it because most people don’t see themselves as victims; it is the neo-cons and the Israeli warhawks that try to paint themselves as this in order to justify their crimes

@Mini US – building in the West Bank; in this oil-less region of the Middle East, it is not follow the money, it is follow the water

Hey Israel. Dear Israel go suck an egg to calm your nerves.

  36. @snoot – “Germany and Israel are intensifying negotiations over a nearly 1 billion euro ($1.45 billion) naval procurement package, a considerable portion of which Israel hopes to fund from a combination of German and U.S. aid.

  38. History will show that the first 9/11-like attack was done by a group headed by Menachem Begin (later PM of Israel) in the 1940′s. A multi-storey hotel was blown to the ground in Jerusalem and 22 Brits, amongst others, died there. The terrorists who planted the bombs shot and killed innocent people as the fled from the building, after having planted explosives on the supporting basement columns. Just like Ariel Sheron who turned the jackals loose on women and children in Sabra and Shatilla, the American public will never hear about these things…

  39. @paganrongs – give in? as there is so so much propaganda on this topic and about this region, it would be better if you didn’t; more insight and opinion the better at establishing a better picture of what the reality is; I was just saying that in my few days there I met quite a lot of people and none of them were as what the American audience is told (it could be I just met a unique group of people there??)

Those that want you to be passive present whateve they do to you as an act of nature, a scourge. Inflation has no noticable donwside to the issuers of money, it allows the suppression of those that amassed some wealth and influence, it allows the appropriation of property and manhours. It is simply attractive to do. The only method to fight it is to refuse to use the money that is being printed.

If you personally were confronted with insurmountable odds,..how would you deal with it?

  68. @Dedo

“I’m used to dealing with idiots,..: )”

    I believe that immediately.

You fail to aknowledge control on the part of the driver. No judge would. You have no point.

  69. Dedo: One article on the Beeb which I read described how Rachel Corrie did try to get out of the way once she had gestured her protest. The land beneath her moved due to the progress of the vehicle making her stumble. However, the driver did not seek any reassuarance that the girl was safe, he just sped on… according to witness’. Corrie was later pronounced dead.

Your fingers in the socket analogy is wrong. She would need to have her fingers in a socket which was off, only to suffer the misfortune to get the fingers stuck. At this point a man, observing her distress, could calmly switch on the mains and fry the young girl.

  81. I suppose one can argue that might is right. A tractor is mightier than the body of a girl etc, and in the logic of at leat one commenter therefore justifies the act as being right.

However, that would imply that if The USA withdrew financial support from Israel due to its financial problems and Israel received some ‘might’ from its neighbours that would also be right.

I do not agree with that arguement.

  82. Has Germany just killed the dream of a European Superstate?

“German and Dutch leaders have concluded in the nick of time that they cannot defy the will of their sovereign parliaments by propping up a country that lied about its deficits, or risk court defeats by breaching the no-bail-out clause in Article 125 of the EU Treaties.

Chancellor Angela Merkel has halted at the Rubicon. So has Dutch premier Jan Peter Balkenende, as well he might in charge of a broken government facing elections in a country where far-right leader Geert Wilders is the second political force, and where the Tweede Kamer has categorically blocked loans for Greece.

The failure of EU leaders to cobble together a plausible bail-out – if that is what occurs at this week’s Brussels summit – is a ‘game-changer’ in market parlance.”

  99. frances snoot

    @all/y’all:

The state is warring against the common people. The german/eu state is coordinating with international financial interests to succeed in enabling an elite liquidity bloc. Regional currency zones will enable free trade from the Atlantic to the Pacific across the Eurasian belt. Wars are fought for the right to dominate trade. Global trade is the engine of the nwo which finds a hegemony through a new reserve system. US dollar paper standard is an anachronism. The press tells tales. History is written by the rich/elite for laughs.

    Dedo’s right.

  100. There is probably some money hiding/ laundering that keeps those in charge compliant. Mind control.

Then there is the strategic placement near the Suez.

  101. Snoot, I thought the German resistance to bailling out Greece would lead to a falling apart of economic union and therefore flew in the face of elite (I hate that term, they are not elite, they are parasites. Ticks. Fleas) plans for moving towards an unelected, unaccountable financial union. No?

  102. Marc Authier

Once a nazi, always a nazi Snoot. They are still in power in Berlin. No doubt about it. It’s like the American eugenists. Right wing piss. In Israel. In Germany and in the USA. All working for the banksters. Germany is proving that it will never change.

  103. @paganrongs,.whether you like the term elite or not, doesn’t change the fact that they are!

Shall we drum up some more stories from history? That is surely the impetus for our idealistic fervor. Throw ourselves in the volcano as the surety of sacrifice? Find comfort in the familiar things? Blame inequality, capitalism, freemarkets, speculation, Americans, Greeks, paper money, Greenspan, Wallstreet, et.al.: blame everything and everyone.

Follow the pied piper. His music is sweet to hear! Blame history: it’s always the same story over and over and over.

Snoot reminds us: banker power abuse. This unproductive despots with their BIS and global currency fantasies. They sould be prosecuted like Christians in early Rome.

now that makes sense…. or not… The banksters are just a product of the environment/society we have created… Don’t buy into the bible shit of Good and Evil… Only will lead to more unnecessary human suffering (as seen trough history), even though some choices seem irrational/totally ‘evil’ they come from a lack of understanding/information values indoctrinated by the surroundings a person grew up in.

  113. @Mother,…There’s a reason for the Big Picture on the front of the box,…it helps to put all the pieces together,..

  114. @White Hunter,…Yes,..”Thinking”,..a very rare commodity (if one could bottle it) : )

  115. @AM

Bankers are a product of their own progressive opportunism. They have no function other than the one they force you to accept.

    1. Keep gold safe (honest job)
    2. Make gold notes (honest service)
    3. Make nore notes than you have gold (a lie/crime)
    4. Negotiate a fractional bankng law (a crime)
    5. Appropriate lifes, goods and services and build on this allowing exploitation of our planet.

Question: Can you print money? Why not? Can you borrow to your neighbour against 14% if you don’t have the money? Why not? And if you do? Why not? What the fuck is going on?

  116. @Mother,…Why not!,..are you really that naive,..I don’t want to believe it,..nah,…you can’t be,.

  117. @Mother Earth: All consequence of the values picked up from the environment they grew up in… Welcome in the ‘real’ world; It’s all an illusion…what lie do you want to buy so you can believe there’s an silver bullet/scapegoat etc. Or embrace reality of the incompetence of the current system and start critically thinking about real solutions… Gold is not an solution its an step back not forward… Do you want to repeat history again? I’m getting tired of this constant rewind…

  118. frances snoot

Yes, Mother, but the question lies within the ECB and the power the institution retains. Greece may be deemed unsavory but not categorically unassailable. Lesser, true, but necessary.

They are only playing their little games, Mother. What’s the real agenda?

We will see how quickly the snake rears its head. That which is whispered is spoken.

  119. @AM

I don’t know what you want, but what you make of what you are handed down is your prerogative. I think we could do much better that the current system. Nobody seems to benefit from it.

    @Snoot

A bailout had to be out of the question becuase it would amount to handing over industrial output to the US (do you see that). What happens now is not that important, but imho local currencies are better, and if they are based on metals they can have a fixed exchange rate (which does not mean there have to be equal amounts in circulation).

  120. frances snoot

This unproductive despots with their BIS and global currency fantasies.

    Mother:
The despots are incredibly productive and set on course to fulfill the Plan, not fantasy, which they have the ill-wrung power to maintain because they already own the dollar-paper-standard-system. Gold is a barnacle on this ship about to sink to the bottom. The new steamer is full of deck chairs for the privileged members and proprietors of a world order based on privileged access to liquidity and sapping off everybody else.

Ignoring the new reserve system is like standing in front of the eminent-domain bulldozer for the sake of ‘peace’. It’s suicide.

  121. Dedo: “I said she was wrong to put herself in harms way,..and so it’s her fault!”
I guess the courts will decide that. Unless you have inside info.

Tell you what,.go and play with the traffic,..and come back and tell me if it’s fun!
That the best you got lol….

  122. @Ptah,..The courts will share the money out,.yep,..
or is there something about the justice system you know, that I don’t?

  123. frances snoot

    Mother:
One of the chief pillars of the despot-agenda-program is the climate change angst servicing their necessity-bound power vector. If we all have to work together or perish then must needs we maintain the old system within the context of a new international financial system. The new system will utilize the people’s need to expell carbon against the people.

Of course science has nothing to do with the new reserve/trade dominion and the future global international clearing union. But science can be bought for a price to service their needs.

You seem rather inconsistent. If I truly believed we were heading for a global deluge, I’d be willing to put up with the incumbent criminals.

  124. Ray in Vancouver

    @Stacy

This may have been posted, but this chart and explanation are an eye opener.

    http://economicedge.blogspot.com/2010/03/most-important-chart-of-century.html

“This is because total income can no longer support total debt. In the third quarter of 2009 each dollar of debt added produced NEGATIVE 15 cents of productivity, and at the end of 2009, each dollar of new debt now SUBTRACTS 45 cents from GDP!

This is mathematical PROOF that debt saturation has occurred. Continuing to add debt into a saturated system, where all money is debt, leads only to future defaults and to higher unemployment.

This is the dilemma created by our top down debt backed money structure. Because all money is backed by a liability, and carries interest, it guarantees mathematically that there will be losers and that the system will eventually reach the natural limits, the ability of incomes to service debt.”

  126. It takes two to tango. My question is what does it take for Hamas and Hezbollah to behave not just during negotiations with Israel but, towards their own people. They pocket all the aid money designated to help the Palestinian people, just like the leadership did in Haiti and in other countries. But then again I wish I knew what it would take for our own leadership to behave. Look at what they are doing to us?

  127. frances snoot

” Because all money is backed by a liability”

SDRs and monetary gold (gold on the books of central banks and imf institutions-ECB) do not have corresponding liabilities. These units are created by fiat by decision of the IMF board.

  129. Those evil American Indian tribal chiefs did not share in the spoils of their ill gotten gains either. It was no wonder the American Indians lost their lands and had horrific crimes committed against them. Why, some of them had the nerve to go off the reservation in search of game to prevent their own starvation. They deserved to be shot. They broke the peace treaty.

  130. Some folk should learn to embrace their childhood,..they wouldn’t then, find the need to curl up in a corner and smoke weed all day, muttering all that jazz man!

  131. frances snoot

“This is mathematical PROOF that debt saturation has occurred.”

The monetary authorities are proceeding with the introduction of a reserve currency asset which will enhance global liquidity for imf members and restrict liquidity for those that think the monetary authorities do not exist, like the person that linked this sentence.

Krugman is not speaking doublespeak when he says that a liquidity trap has occurred. The worry about debt saturation is a perspective which ignores the need for credit flows in a credit-based economy for liquidity.

It’s a way to shoot off our foot to save the ‘fort’ from a perceived threat (most likely manufactured by our monetary authorities).

  144. frances snoot

Why do you keep assuming my propriety over the financial superstructure?

And how can I answer such nebulous questions?

I think the international financial system is a Very Bad Idea, especially with the sovereign interests being overlooked by sovereign institutions and banks via sovereign cities. But it is an even worse idea to ignore the existence of the international financial system when seeking reforms or revolutions.

I am merely indicating the existence of the entity.

At this point, to put it mildly, things are really screwed up. Tearing down the US financial structure and leaving European/Asian banking interests intact hardly seems fair; unless one is advocating the switch to the new reserve system and the ensuing agenda which Sarkozy delineated.

  145. @ supergeek – Yes, bliss. I remember reading about how one of the goals of expanding the American frontier was to keep all of the disparate oppressed groups in America from uniting. As long as the frontier expanded, people could be pushed around and kept from realizing that although some had marginally more rights than other oppressed groups, all were really peasants except for the wealthiest few whites–who were the only ones granted full rights and freedom.

  146. frances snoot

The whole international financial system as it now operates begets crime, war, and lust and destroys imagination and innovation to line the purse of the privileged few who gained the advantage through birth or criminal ascendancy.

    Okay, Mother?

It produces nothing but feeds off the productive; worse than a parasite being itself the production of parasitical imagination: a warped innovation of man and not a natural species.

I’d like to see an order justly moderate in action with regard to nature. I don’t trust those in power to cede anything of the sort to mankind.

  147. ahhhh….those were the days

  148. I think that for the most part this being tough on Israel is an attempt to make the hardliners feel isolated so they will act against Iran on our behalf without US direct involvement and I look to Hezbollah to set it off with another round of strikes out of Beirut that will inevitably lead right back to Iran once the US gets far enough away from the crime scene. Strategically, a US attack on Iran would probably start with heavy aerial bombardment and a slight pull back of Naval assets to avoid the teeth of the Iranian coastal defenses. That kind of pull back seems like simple strategy simple but also represents a sign of weakness, so hiding such a retreat under the guise of appearing neutral in an ongoing conflict might save face.
Getting the Israelis to do the heavy lifting of bombardment followed by our “whitenight” re-stabilization of the region would even further justify our continued underwriting of the world oil trade and future underwriting of natural gas.

  149. frances snoot

  152. frances snoot

How can I answer a question that has perplexed man always?

Words don’t cede value to life anymore than words produce god.

I don’t hold myself convict to words, but I enjoy playing with them.

I’m perplexed by people that line themselves in front of the stone tablets to genuflect. I suppose they find purpose in their remonstrations: but purpose itself frustrates surely.

  157. Hildene is taking on Trust Preferred Solutions, a fund associated with Minneapolis-based TPG Credit, to stop the firm from acquiring securities in a CDO for 5 cents on the dollar.

Community banks need the CDO market to revive to issue TruPS because they sell debt in increments of as little as $10 million, which insurers or mutual funds won’t buy. CDOs bought the most TruPS issued by smaller banks before credit markets froze, according to Citigroup.

Prices of TruPS CDOs have underperformed as banks collapsed at the fastest pace in 17 years. Thirty U.S. banks failed this year as of March 12, and Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. Chairman Sheila Bair warned in February that the pace will accelerate and pass the 2009 total of 140.

Banks were among the biggest investors for these CDOs, Jefferson said. Rainier Pacific Bank in Tacoma, Washington, was seized Feb. 26 by the FDIC after writing down its $108.8 million of investments in 15 TruPS CDOs to $17.1 million. Zions Bancorp., Utah’s biggest bank, took $99.3 million in writedowns last quarter that were mostly related to $2.2 billion of such securities.

Hamas holds its poulation hostage to its corrupt and evil ideology of destroying Israel and spreading its evil into Egypt. The very existence of Hamas is only made possible by financial and military support of Iran, a country sworn to Israel’s destruction.

    B) If the Palestinian authority were given back their rightful duty to police Gaza, there would be no closure of Gaza and their people would be far better off. To twist this into a tale of Israeli and Egypt carrying this out without purpose is a lie.
    C) The Palestinian Authority and Hamas and entrenched in a civil war.
    D) What peace offering has been presented to Israel by the P.A.? Will they accept the same offer presented by Ehud Barak – if not what do they want – it has never been expressed clearly – if it has, provide the reference. To this date, the PLO has not removed its intent to drive all Jews into the sea in their constitution. To this date Palestinian children are taught to hate Israel and Jews in their school curriculums. Is this a concept of a people who crave peace?

The episode with Joe Biden was a huge blunder by a nutcase politician, it certainly was not Isreali government/Netanyahu policy to embarrass Biden. Are there no nutcase politicians here or in all countries for that matter?

But lets take the 1600 planned apartments for East Jerusalem for what it is – there are to be built in an existing Jewish neighborhood. The apartments are not to be built for another 3 years!!! This is the context of which the Palestinians reject sitting down with Israel to negotiate? That is pathetic.

The Palestinians need to return to the negotiating table and stop playing games.
Negotiate a deal with Quartet backing and the settlement issue goes away, end of story.

What value has Obama achieved in his speach reaching out to the Arab world? Where is the
criticism from this administration and others about Libya’s threat of Jihad against Switzerland for their ban of the mineret? What has Syrias overtones been to the USA after reestablishing our dipomatic ties there – they swayed closer to Iran. How many times has Iran spat in the face of this adminstation despite repeated offers of relations by Obama?
Where is the criticism of this on this site and in the media? These are countries that would be our friends were it not for Israel? – what nonsense!!!!

No relationship is perfect and they all have ups and downs; now is a down and it will pass.
How many true friends does the USA have in the world at this time. Israel is a true friend.”
