  1. You know, I really don’t get this. How is what’s going on in Greece an example of “financial terrorism?” Because Goldman Sachs did some crooked currency swaps? It seems like that was relatively minor. Yes, it might have allowed them to hide their debts from the EU for longer, but can we really argue that it was Wall St. that caused Greece to get into debt? Is it not Greece’s massive (or at least what I perceive to be massive) entitlement system?

  2. Revolt, reject, and get you’re damn country back!

re: Bill Murphy GATA, I was hoping this was going to be a lot better than it was. I saw him on BNN the day before and his presentation was fine. Whether he was nervous or trying to squeeze too much info in I don’t know. He motor mouthed the whole thing. He lost all the impact.

Presentation is just as important as the information, he failed horribly.

    Pity.

“I believe that if we humans had as much freedom to move as capital does, globalization would not be destroying so much opportunity and wealth for us while consolidating it for capital.”

The big boys controlling global liquidity and cross-border capital flow in future see humans as ‘labor capital’ vested in their personal profit/margins. They plan to fence us in like livestock. That was Ezekial Emanuel’s jist when he indicated that those who do not contribute to the state will not be guaranteed insurance.

Indeed, the G20 coordinating banks already siphon labor profit to private criminal elites through the operation of central banks and finance departments tied to the IMF. The idea that we are paying a Treasury department tax money is ludicrous: yet it undergirds all our dealings with our ‘government’.

The real entitlement issues are not linked to the dollar but to those who stand behind the sdr unit. Those guys feel entitled to an exorbitant privilege which they do not deserve: they pay for the rhetoric to dupe people into believing the result will be a just and equitable world.

Nothing could be farther from the truth.

  6. @kostakosta

With recent announcements on the topic of Greece I offer this scenario:

The London banks have been put against the wall by European leaders. They where offered a choice: Either go down or betray the US. The banks chose the latter by opening up about the gold manipulation (coming from Goldman Sachs). They asked the suicide bombers to blow themselves up at gunpoint. So now the US banks will implode and the US will become defunkt. The UK and London in return will become part of the Eurozone and Europe will lend internally directly to f.i. Greece and the other Piggs with the IMF at the back of the line. We all love the warm European countries, so this imho is a good development.

    @Stacy

Global mobility to follow global liquidity sounds to me like fighting fire with fire. Remote access to money is like remote control. I can ship some dollars to the philipines and have an army of inmates dance for a day if I wanted to, this makes no sense imho. If you patch that up by increasing mobility (which is totaly possible if you use renewable energy sources) you forget that people choose their destinations for appeal, e.g. they will not be equaly distributed. That will distort their impression and not lead to an improved social sense at large.

If you on the other hand restict money flow f.i. by a progressive distance tax you select for local economies. People can travel and pick up an equal occupation everywhere (because there is no concentration of skills). A trader can bring certain materials to an area by bartering it with what they bring to do so and then use its benefits locally. This all may mean that the world becomes a cottage quilt that can not sustain huge cities and such, but it will be able to sustain life in general unlike the one where people and money moves freely..

  7. Great show, great guest.
Long term values and lack thereof, sums it up pretty much.
Politicians by and large have no understanding of economics, sad to say their clueless.

One quibble, (there has to be one fault, afterall only true beauty forgives its flaws). Your use of the term psychosis is incorrect. In the words of Freud: one of the features which differentiate a neurosis from a psychosis [is] the fact that in a neurosis the ego, in its dependence on reality suppresses a piece of the id (of instinctual life), whereas in a psychosis, this same ego, in the service of the id, withdraws from a piece of reality. (Freud 1924 SE 19: 183-7)

Bion writes; The differentiation of the psychotic from the non-psychotic personality depends on a minute splitting of all that part of the personality that is concerned with awareness of internal and external reality, and the expulsion of these fragments so that they enter into or engulf their objects. (Bion 1957 International Journal of Psychoanalysis)

Or as Patsy Cline might sing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuZTk1hdpMs&feature=related

    How that proves useful.

  8. @Max @Stacy: There’s a lot of chatter on the web about the rising in US Treasuries. Some are claiming that this portends a imminent disaster.

On the other hand, is this a head-fake? In other words, could this be the US and China testing each other, in fact probing, to see whether a Chinese tariff policy will affect Treasuries? Stress testing on a global scale?

  10. @Stacy: Thanks for opening my eyes to this issue of restricting human movement. The real world, the physical world, which is the source of all true wealth, needs human capital, brains, intellect, skills and knowledge more than than ever before. The world population has more than doubled since the early 1980′s but development, against dwindling resources, has fallen far behind. The solution to this is the mobilization of human intellect across borders to engage with the physical world. Capital, however, is blocking this at every turn. Reminds me of some of Buckminster Fuller’s concerns over the last decade.

Yes , I remember the postman delivered at ca. 13:00 and I had the book finished at ca. 18:00 !!
Just couldn’t put it down … as if I knew everybody in the book .

The scuffle at the time on US MSM was hilarious.
A certain lady disappeared from the screen – rumours were she was pregnant or ill. She came back on the Monday ( I expect she was with lawyers all the time). Then they tried to ban the book – officially.
And guess who then got his first regular spot on US MSM? .. Cramer !

  13. @Adam C – thanks for the link to the Daily Bell article; I like this paragraph:

It is actually the competition between nation states and the ability of citizens to travel from one to another without disrupting their lives and families that builds civil society. As time goes on, consolidation often takes place and republics are formed from the disparate entities. These republics have enormous energy and build on great achievements in civil society that have taken place during the era of nation states. Eventually a third stage sets in, which is the transformation of republics into empires. At this point, one sees the creation of great monuments to the state and the other paraphernalia of state control.

This freedom (or lack of it) for humans to travel is one of my pet issues. As you know, I bring it up often, so it’s interesting to see it placed into context of building of civil society. I believe that if we humans had as much freedom to move as capital does, globalization would not be destroying so much opportunity and wealth for us while consolidating it for capital. We will always have governments hostile to us while we have no alternative but to obey as they chase the favor of capital.

  14. @Mother Earth
I don’t like those generalizations either. The same people who take from the Greek people are taking from the German people, the American people, the Hungarian, the Japanese, and the Egyptians. If we don’t get out of these generalizations, pretty soon we’ll have a new World War.
As for the defficit, I haven’t seen one euro of it, and neither have the most people I know. I figure it’s not my defficit, but I would gladly be more responsible as a citizen, take the defficit and stuff those bankers and speculators with it.

  15. @Max. That’s a fantastic email. Great comments. You should incorporate this into your commentary…”I’m tired of compensating these organ-challenged financial terrorists. If they’ve got sexual inadequacies, then they need to go to a psychiatrist, not raid my bank account!”

  17. Dear Max and Stacey,

I’d really like to hear you comment on the term “compensation” as it applies in the finance industry. We hear a lot about executive compensation these days – never salaries or bonuses. What does compensation mean? When does a bonus transition into compensation? What exactly are executives being compensated for? Why is an executive’s work (or is it just time) deemed compensation?

Let me, or rather Microsoft Word’s thesaurus, help in defining the word “compensate”:
    - recompense, reimburse, pay off, pay compensation, pay damages, pay costs, give back

    An internet search also yielded:
    - make amends for, cover, make up for shortcomings or a feeling of inferiority by exaggerating good qualities, do or give something to somebody in return

So let me take a stab … executive compensation means making amends for the hardship of work, in excess of a base salary.
Is an executive’s couch time that valuable that they need to be “paid damages” by a telephone number pay off?

By far my favourite definition is from good old “reliable” wikipedia.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compensation_(psychology)

It states, “In psychology, compensation is a strategy whereby one covers up, consciously or unconsciously, weaknesses, frustrations, desires, feelings of inadequacy or incompetence in one life area through the gratification or (drive towards) excellence in another area.”

Furthermore, “Alfred Adler, founder of the school of individual psychology, introduced the term compensation in relation to inferiority feelings. In his book Study of Organ Inferiority and Its Physical Compensation (1907) he describes this relationship: If one feels inferior (weak) he / she (usually) tries to compensate for it somewhere else.”

So in a nutshell, could it be that executive compensation refers to the payment of damages to inadequate, incompetent, and organ-challenged individuals?

    Interested to hear your thoughts.

    Kind Regards,

By the way Mep, what dis Lord Obama for the blacks and the hispanics of the USA ? Same as Bush. A big fat nothing and a kick in the balls. Race issues have nothing to do with it. It’s about good old Marxist class warfare. The ultra rich from Goldman Sachs have decided to exterminate you. It never was about color. Color is boogey man like said Adam C. And no. We won’t shut the f up because Obeyourmamma has a differen pigment color. Political correctness used to justify but mostly distract any criticism and denouciation of this corporate whore and war monger.

  25. Marc Authier

Today many whose goal once was the discovery of truth are now paid handsomely to hide it. “Free market economists” are paid to sell offshoring to the American people. High-productivity, high value-added American jobs are denigrated as dirty, old industrial jobs. Relicts from long ago, we are best shed of them. Their place has been taken by “the New Economy,” a mythical economy that allegedly consists of high-tech white collar jobs in which Americans innovate and finance activities that occur offshore. All Americans need in order to participate in this “new economy” are finance degrees from Ivy League universities, and then they will work on Wall Street at million dollar jobs.

    Paul Craig Roberts.

Well said. Welcome the Obama plantation Mep. Same as the Bush plantation and it has nothing to do with race. It has to do with exterminating the middle class and raping and destroying democracy and transforming USA in a national socialist state runned by FEMA, CIA, TSA, NSA, Homeland Security and IRS thugs for the Nazis globalists. Color, race and religion have no importance. None.
Economists who were once respectable took money to contribute to this myth of “the New Economy.”

  26. Marc Authier

WHAT CAN THE GREEK SLAVES CAN EXPECT UNDER THE IMF DICTATORSHIP ? Ukraine is a real good example of what is prepared for Greece.

    http://www.financialsense.com/editorials/engdahl/2010/0322.html

” The man Washington decided to back in its orchestrated regime change in Ukraine was Viktor Yushchenko, a fifty-year old former Governor of Ukraine’s Central Bank who had been the point man in Ukraine for the savage IMF “shock therapy” deindustrialization of the country during the 1990′s. Yushchenko’s IMF program had devastating consequences for his countrymen. Under his 1994 IMF program, Ukraine was forced to abandon exchange controls and let the currency fall. He oversaw the currency demands as head of the central bank, which within days saw the price of bread increase by 300%, electricity prices by 600%, public transportation by 900%. By 1998 Ukrainian real wages had fallen by 75% compared with 1991 when the country declared independence. He was clearly Washington’s man for what they wanted to do in Ukraine, ”

Quite clear. Bend over you Greek slaves. In Greece real wages are already down -30%. Another -45% coming soon.

Massive job growth at the IRS. Amen ! Obamamma ! 17,000 more inspectors hired for collecting scores and scores of taxes.

A fantastic formula for creating economic activity and jobs.Just kidding. Have to pay Goldman Sachs bonuses and mop the vomit of the New-York nazis from Wall Street and the Pentagon. Come you slaves. Remove your pants and bend over. The IRS man and woman is there for inspection. TSA-ed at the airport and IRS-ed for Goldman Sachs. Sick bloodsucking NWO empire. Let’s be clear here about gold. Gold is worth something. OK. But the real power and master currency, is energy. No energy no economy.

The correlation between the famous “American Dream” and energy is about 100%. Gold is cool because it’s like a concentrated magical token metal of energy. Takes tons and tons of oil, labor and capital to extract and processed one once of gold. Before gold ther ALWAYS energy. Energy, arable land and water. If I had a choice between an oil field and a couple of bars of gold I would choose the oil field. The problem with oil you need a lot of nuclear bombs to protect it. No such problem with a little piece of gold.

should be in bed but popped here to see any comments before I went to the land of Ni Quil

I too see the reflexive defense by certain segments of the “Liberal establishment” of Oboma and it isn’t surprising to see CNBC and CNN to a lesser degree help showcase the extremism in rhetoric on the right (No I am not saying those people aren’t foolish and a little scary} but truthfully I think the White House is quiet pleased with the leading opposition being Glenn Beck, Rush and Fox News…Conservatives have a legitimate rebuttal to forcing individuals to purchase a product from a private entity/corporation…truthfully several Lefties agree with this…but luckily (by design?) the main opposition was a bunch of people screaming

COMMIE COMMIE COMMIE COMMIE….Apocalypse, repent now before the Marxist Kenyan imprisons all of us and kills our grandparents

and as some of the rhetoric from this site today/tonight the powers that be would be wise to move onto Immigration Reform and really watch those folks go apoplectic….Oboma is a Corporatist in the Bill Clinton model who is playing the same triangulation game that Bubba did…the Health Care bill could’ve been written by Mitt Romney…but the Republicans as a severely minority party have decided to double down on their base….which Rhamn and the boys in the White House adore…they’ll sweep into the center right, grab the suburban (don’t rock the boat crowd) and throw the Boogie Man up to scare their base into passivity

in truth WE ARe F!@#ED…but in truth I no longer could give two tugs on a dead dogs C!@K about it

“.and I must say am continually bemused by the hysteria of calling him a Socialist,

but that is the only Narrative a certain segment of our society is blessed with…I like to call it the Masser’s tongue

and Oboma likes that, he likes that his “critics” are these obnoxious white screamers…they will be trotted out over and over to frighten suburbia and those “progressives” that may stray”

I wish I could say the younger generation will lead the way…maybe in the emerging societies of China, India…but a lot of my friends are 10 to 15 years younger than me…they are graduating and walking into menial retail Sales jobs loaded with debt…most have smashed onto the reality of modern society without much of a whimper

they seem to have accepted lower expectation…so long as they can have a minimal level of escapism…the only friends that are engaged political or socially are refugees hiding in Grad school awaiting…they just don’t know what

my own bias is that I believe the energy must come from an engaged working class, that ain’t gonna happen in the Western worlds…but you maybe correct that an increasing proletariat based young population could alter the discourse but I see this happening more in India, China or young third world countries like Iran, Brazil

the reason none are manning the Barricades is simple least in American society…its the same reason that a certain strain of Socialism or Social Democracy was never incorporated here (yes a tremendous amount of brainwashing, but don’t care to argue that here) but the core reason was the system despite all its flaws could still produce a minimal level of personal/financial security and advancement

Now we have also worked doubly hard to cement TINA (there is no alternative) but people aren’t uncomfortable enough to rock the boat…seriously Middle America could just refuse to pay their credit cards for a couple months unless there was some basic reform with little to no risk to them, but they won’t

things aren’t bad enough…by the time it does get bad enough the actions would have to be more drastic and then they will be fearful of losing the basics

so Scream and Blog and comment onward, nothing of any substance is gonna change

  59. What did I (Youri Carma ) predict on December 25th 2009? http://forum.prisonplanet.com/index.php?topic=153175.0

I think we’re gonna see a “dead cats bounce” in the first quarter of 2010 with at the same time sliding dollar on the growing concern about the national debt and the cost of all the stimulus.

So, till March – April next year there will be a “recovery mood” which will slowly be taken over by reality in which deleveraging still is going on and show the real face of this depression with no new jobs but rising unemployment, more banks and businesses going belly up and tight expensive money for consumers and businesses.

Maybe there is still some consumer buying power out there but this will be slowly but gradually eaten away by a declining dollar and frozen or even declining wages. The problem for the U.S. is that things will get extra expensive if the economical pick up else were in the world goes faster, like China for instance, and drives up commodity prices already.

2010 will be the U.S. debt concern year with the dollar still sliding and gold will at least go to $2000,- at the end of the year.

2011 will be the big crises year cause bank debts no longer can be hidden and are forced to deleverage. They waited for this till an ultra dollar low record which will have arrived around this time. Even negotiated deals on debt, like in Dubai, have to be renegotiated again cause they proved to be based on much too optimistic economical growth calculations. Governments ultimately have to raise taxes with not much more going on in the economy which will be bugged down severely.

At this time the government is in desperate need of a distraction from the crises which probably will be an other war for which the gearing up started in December 2010.

  72. I don’t like the antipathy against Germany. Greece did have a deficit, it did cover it up and the antipathy should be against Wallstreet. The opposition to the IMF is fine, but even two weaklings can’t beet a bully. The PIGGS should team up with the rest of Europe to do that. The simple rule being ‘no money to Wallstreet’. Any defence is called protectionism, but it should really be called selfsufficiency. That I would say is a sovereign right to aquire.

  77. This is an incredibly interesting idea, if there is some sort of debtors revolt it would be the most effective way of sending a message to the bankers and elitists. For instance, if consumers wanted to send a message that they were finished doing business with the loan sharking agencies like Visa, Master Card and American express and organised protest of a quarter of there total client base, it would send a clear message to those companies. Perhaps forcing them to make some concessions on there interest rates, and if you were to add up all there total customers who are on or near the brink of bankruptcy you might find that the numbers might run closer to half there total customer base. Of course we all know what happens when you don’t pay a loan shark you get the knee breakers turning up at your door. However, if you look at it from the perspective that there are strength in numbers then you figure the revolters would be in good shape.

Iceland and Greece need to desperately come to terms of their present realities, and if they don’t form some sort of bi-lateral agreement well as John Perkins would say “it’ll be time to send in the Jackals and Hyenas”. This refers to the IMF + World Bank and those pirates. These people are so dangerous to countries like Greece and Iceland the people should look at models like Jamaica and Agrentina as examples. Do you want your children to be scavanging waste stations in search of pieces scrap metal that they can then barter for a piece of infected dark chicken meat that wasn’t able to be sold in any legitimate market place and has now found its way back to Athens in the form international aid .

Of course these concepts will take time to materialize but Max I think unification of exploited people’s is exactly the solution right now. The disenfranchised are the overwhelming majority right now, there problem lies in A. misinformation or disinformation (this is where they lack the tools and will to seek alternatives to their plight) B. In fighting, governments are so tactful at pitting the people against each other via small meaningless differences i.e Republican vs. Democrats. Or perhaps more poignantly middle class vs. lower class, ignorant middle class fails to realize that they are closer to the bottom not the top and should be aligning their allegiances accordingly. Instead they are far more concerned with chasing their suburban dreams of ikea living rooms and little league practice for their children. When are they going to realize that the uber rich have no plans to leave any scraps for this once prosperous middle class. It’s hypocrisy. These baby boomers who were once these righteous figures of a revolution are far more invested in chasing the next property bubbles as oppose to making the smallest changes at even the local levels.

Who you ask? How ? When ? and why ?

It seems fairly obvious that the only people capable of organizing a revolt will be the un-educated under 25′s. The biggest demographic of social networkers are in this demographic they are the most tech savvy and the least interested in changing Grandpa’s diapers for a demeaning minimum wage. At some point in the not to near future this part of the population pyramid will have the potential to seize power at a moments notice, the baby boomers will be too frail to suppress this movement anyone Pre gen x will be too doped up on pharmaceuticals to notice and they will eventually seize power, this possibility seems most real in the developing world. One needs to look no further than Rwanda’s child armies to see the potential of such a catastrophe or the reality. I suspect this will be the case in the Western world within the next ten years as the jobs become scarce and the cost of living rises this will surely amount to some sort of cataclysmic confrontation. Why this will happen will be due to the melding of consumer culture and urban lifestyle where the youths will realize that the very hand that feeds them is the one that violates them. This realization I am almost sure will result in some form of anti-establishment uprising that will be too insurmontable to be compartmentalized, re-packaged and branded as skateboarding.

Understand what? That any time there is a disagreement about immigration and citizenship policy the label racist gets slapped on the jar quicker than slick.

I understand that we cannot have two categories for citizenship or for health care: so we all become disadvantaged together. Oh, and bankrupt as well: remember we are under the 3% deficit to gdp onus.

Even though it’s a pretty simple idea, it was Austin-Fitts I’ve got it from: I used to be unemployed, so my cards had balooned. Recently I went to a person that’s close to me, and borrowed a sum to get rid of those cards. I’m giving the person 6%. So, The bank has stopped milking me, and that person has stopped giving the opportunity to the bank to milk God knows how many other people, based on fractional reserves.
Of course, not everybody has got a friend who can do them such a favor. But many have a father, a mother with some extra cash they can borrow from.

  102. @ Ingrid – I understand how difficult the INS is to work with and how long it takes to shuffle paperwork around having witnessed one of my best friends dealing with them. My view is not that undocumented people should just be handed citizenship, but rather that they should be offered a way to become citizens–esp. the ones who have been here for years, have started families here, and have been contributing to both the economy and their communities. Not allowing them to become citizens hurts everybody except those who hire them illegally, pay them crap, and treat them like crap.

@ charles – I’ve decided not to deal at all with ignoramuses who have no fucking clue what they’re talking about. Our friend has personalized a day- old comment that didn’t even refer to him; it was made in response to the recent violence in the US as well as all of the past and present birther crap & other conspiracy theories about Obama that are fueling the most despicable elements in our society . . . the guy who appears in this clip and takes credit for the brick-throwing (which I linked to the other day) and people like him are who I had in mind when referring to racists, conspiracy theorists, and other ignorant people who are inserting themselves and their vitriol into the public sphere and wasting the country’s time. Somebody chose to personalize that. And I have little to no respect left for that somebody.

  103. @fUny1. thanks.

  104. Stocks are up because the FED has printed a couple of Trillion dollars and funneled the money through their Primary Dealers( aka Goldman, JPM, etc) to Ponzi up the market like never before in History.

At the current rate of ascent of the last 40 days alone, the S&P index will go up to around 4000 within the next year.

But the US debt markets are starting to show strain with whatever is left other than the FED balking at buying long term dated treasuries for the worthless interest rate lows which means the FED is getting ready to pull the rug big time on the stock market hype in order to support the value of the dollar and the need to turn over 2.5 Trillion in debt that is maturing this year alone.

I’ll Let Mep defend herself (hope I got your gender right Mep) but I will say I didn’t see the bomb of Racism used…but I haven’t read all 187 comments either

I will defend myself, I’m a good ole boy from the south and don’t like throwing around the nuclear invective of racism…but to deny that the most vocal and vulgar of Oboma’s opponents have a certain hue in common is foolish.

I voted for him as a means to cast the Republicans into the desert, I did not for a second believe he was a Liberal nor a Lefty such as myself….and I must say am continually bemused by the hysteria of calling him a Socialist,

but that is the only Narrative a certain segment of our society is blessed with…I like to call it the Masser’s tongue

and Oboma likes that, he likes that his “critics” are these obnoxious white screamers…they will be trotted out over and over to frighten suburbia and those “progressives” that may stray

but most of us on the “Left” don’t like Oboma

  106. @ Adam C I wish more people were angry as him… Not here anyway…
    @Mep
What is difficult for me or anyone else who immigrated to the US is that we went through the process legally. I can’t tell you how much money we paid, the amount of paperwork we filed, the hours we spent at INS offices so we could stay here. When I got my US citizenship last September, there were people there with me from 36 different countries and we all got there the same way. Legally. It doesn’t seen fare to me that someone who is here illegally, can get their citizenship through the mail. And the most curious thing is that Canadians are number two in terms of being illegal aliens.

Right wing populism fester because of the economic crisis. Hitler that scum, used the same tactics. That being said, it’s not a reason to be stupid like Mep and always accuse anyone of racism because immigration policies are fucked up and corrupt. Mep started shouting the word “racist”. I never implied Mep, neither nobody on this site, that Obama was a rotten piece of manure because of his skin color. Never. Mep can’t stand the word banana and USA. USA banana republic. USA terrorist state. USA rogue state. USA gang bang rapist state. The more Mep you will attack the more I will insist. Nobody is in the KKK on this site. I hate Nazis. I hate banksters, I hate militaries. I hate imperialists of any stripe. And I hate racists. But I know a godamn crook when I see one, and yes Mep, you Obeyourmamma is ONE fine gangster like Bush. Sorry if you think us “racist”.

  117. @ charles – The situation wouldn’t be so potentially explosive if more Americans simply knew and understood history; unfortunately, that’s too much to ask for. The people who are most against allowing undocumented people a pathway to citizenship are too ignorant to understand that their opposition is what allows their own wages and/or employment options to be diminished. Too ignorant to get that removing the incentive for businesses to hire low- wage undocumented workers would improve their own lives. Pretty sad.

  118. @ Palantiri
I wish that people were only obligated to buy health insurance now. IRS agents are being hired to make sure that everyone does buy it, if not you will be fined. It’s a police state here. If only we had any resemblance of what ya’ll have across the pond :)

  127. @Ingrid – when I read about the national health care debate in the US I almost took for granted that it was on the path of what we in Europe, UK, Scandinavia have, but now it seems like the health care is about obligating the people without health insurance to buy one, they can’t label that as a “national health care” that is too cheap, but it may look good on paper and resume of the politicians.

Health insurance companies like Aetna and Humana have been lobbying hard and basically there is no cap in the bill on how much they can charge a person for insurance. Rates can go up and up and they can make mega bucks off the backs of people who still have jobs. The people who don’t will have to go on medicaid. And the interesting thing is there are few doctors, in Colorado anyway, who accept Medicaid. My husband is the only doc in our area that does and when we move back to Canada, there will be none.
So it’s all about money, even health insurance stocks went up after the bill was passed.

I too am fretful about the increase in tension in my society….illegal immigration has always been used by the dominate economic powers as a downward pull on wages in our society….I will admit I don’t know if it is a chicken or egg problem…what happens as economic activity increases in our nation the demand for labor increases raising wages which attracts others seeking better lifestyles…now the governments always look the other way and allow the waves of Scots, Irish, Italians, Jews, Russians and now South and Central Americans to come into the market lowering the wage structure

this has two benefits first it lowers Wage/Labor cost second the newcomers are a pressure release valve for the powers that be…a convenient scapegoat that explains away the lowering wages and lower lifestyles

there has been a tremendous amount of research about the creation of “Whiteness” as an American phenomenon as a way to drive a wedge between the laboring classes in pre-revolutionary America….as us Scot-Irish were herded into thinking we were part of the Game by the landed gentry against Africans and other southern European immigrants

Time Wise writes and gives pretty good lectures on this topic if you ever have the time to catch

And this is a problem that those of us on the Left have failed to recognize….White Males (which I am one) can opt out of playing the class game and choose to play the Race, Sex, Sexual Orientation, Religion game…so they can vote and participate in the process against what many would believe to be their economic interests, but they ain’t playing that game because those of us on the Left haven’t shown them they can win that game…so yea I expect to see a backlash if the Democratic party chooses to pursue Immigration reform, and I think they may do this because they believe it is a Game they can win…the Economic Elites like open immigration because it is a downward pull on wages and Latinios are the rising demographic group…so they want to box in the Republicans into being the White Male party

    so it will get ugly

when I look towards our future politics I see a Right wing populist movement running against technocrats, who are socially liberal but economically dogmatic and all they can offer is “We can make the trains run on time”

  137. Re: Reunion of Germany, Euro
Yes, I would like to hear more about that, too! And why don’t some countries like the fact that Germany is once again back in it’s feet?

  138. Re: NHC
Shouldn’t national health care mean that the state is the health insurer? forcing people to buy health insurance (I assume from private operators?) seems to me as the opposite of a national health care where the state provides you with health services through taxes.

    Re: Reunion of Germany, Euro
The whole Stacy comment on reunion of East and West Germany and currency – please expand on that theme in the next truth about markets, I want to know more about it – fascinating stuff.

  141. Here’s one problem with Greece…

PUBLIC UNIONS (as opposed to private ones)…
They are paid out of tax-payers’ earnings, and such, are a government’s debt concern… (40% of the GDP is Public Sector)

    This is termed INTRA-GOVERNMENTAL DEBT
To solve the issue, they should be paid in INTRA-NATIONAL CURRENCY…

This unfortunately limits the savings ability of those paid in such manner,
in that they can only utilize such currency within the national borders,
but there could be exchanges allowed for conversion to Supra-national currencies for those that NEED to take that cash out (for what reason? I don’t know)…

Why was (or is, still?) California dishing out IOUs in lieu of US$ ?
They don’t have the cash to do otherwise…
Now after they started doing that, certain banks were allowing them to be exchanged for US$…
They (the banks) were willing to take on the risk, and people who were issued the IOUs could carry on with their consumption needs…

To constantly look OUTWARDS (to Macro-solutions) shows how ignorant many in power are as to creative INWARD (i.e.Micro) solutions…

America did it in the past (i.e. Greenbacks, Colonial Script), so this is a model that has been tested in history…

When there is some semblance of stability in the debt situation, then the Intra-National bucks can be phased out…

I welcome criticism on this idea…
(although, I have to go to the library… so don’t expect a quick reply from my end)

  142. Marc Authier

  150. @ Charles – re: the overheated rhetoric and recent political violence, what worries me most right now is that the next debate is going to be about immigration reform. I worry that the right has painted itself into a corner where their need to invigorate their base will lead them to continue stoking rage and paranoia about “illegals,” and that as a result, we might see some really ugly violence directed at non-white American residents and against anyone who would stand up to defend immigrants.

“Strauss-Kahn unveiled the proposal to IMF member countries during an informal board meeting on March 4, a day before he left for Africa where he launched the idea in Nairobi, Kenya.

Board officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Reuters most of the 24 directors present, except for those from France and Britain, rejected the proposal.

They said board members, speaking in turn, told Strauss-Kahn that climate was not part of the IMF’s mandate and that SDR allocations are a reserve asset never intended for development issues.

“The message to the managing director was clear … no one wants the IMF involved in this,” one director from a large developing country said.”

Henry Ford like the good whore he was frequented both Lenin and Adolf Hitler. A nice guy in sum. Henry loved his workers, at least in the beginning. It didn’t last. Just one thing in common. Ford hated bankers. He blamed them for the depression. Quite true. How things never change. As for Obamamma, we knew that he is just a vulgar puppet, not a president. Like Bush in sum. Banker banana republic.

  156. Sherri Young

Obama was wrong. AIG, the banksters, and many of the hedgies should not stay out of Vegas. They should go there and take their favorite regulators and legislators and Prez and other govt officials with them. Maybe that way they could all play in the Vegas casinos with their own money and not take ours to the rigged market capital casino.

    http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/opinions/dislodging-the-dollar-wont-be-easy/article1506487/

“On Wednesday morning, I attended an exercise in trying to break this deadlock. Economists from the International Monetary Fund, London’s Chatham House and several major banks launched a proposal to rebuild the world’s monetary system. Two Chinese economists participated, and their government watched closely.

It would adopt, as its main anchor, the rather obscure “currency” known as Special Drawing Rights (SDRs), used by the IMF to denominate the loans it uses to bail out bankrupt countries such as Ukraine, Hungary and possibly, soon, Greece. Based on a basket of major currencies, this unit has the strength of being very stable and nationless. It has the weakness of being impossible to spend.

But that may be changing. Last year, the major oil economies of OPEC – a broadly anti-American bunch – began discussing a plan to start denominating international petroleum sales in SDRs rather than dollars. China participated, as its government would very much like countries to start paying accounts for Chinese goods in SDRs, or yuan, or anything but dollars.

So the economists proposed a system where SDR-denominated oil sales wouldn’t have to be converted immediately into local currencies; instead, there’d be SDR-denominated financial institutions, central banks and so on. Since the IMF happens to be bailing out a lot of economies these days, there’d be a lot of this odd currency floating around, anyway, so why not make it everyone’s favourite price tag?”

but it is just for show, these people wouldn’t dare take even the most minimal of action to damper their status in the “middle class”….its huff and puff….it would be nice if they would focus their rage at maybe their real corporate enemies but alas they are to lazy and docile so they obediently take in the talking points of their Corporate handlers, so the cry goes out…

“Commie, Socialist, MArxist, fascist and of course Oboma is a dogF#%ER”

These arguments to not implement position limits are WEAK !!!
They are using the same tactics that Hanky-Panky used when he coerced congress to fork over the TARP…
But why doesn’t anyone ask these guys HOW will it negatively affect the market?

  201. Phil /Germany

@Fibon11235 …”Did you see my last post OMG ? It says it all ..”

Yes I did .. and yes, it does SAY IT ALL.

These people are not interested in “discovery” , more like “cover up and keep it going” .

CFTC … reminds me of those pompous Congressional Inquiries where politicians somehow manage to (seem to) attack the culprits and then walk away laughing and smiling at each other … and for ever the best of friends.

  202. .. and something else about self scrutiny… as I sit here and write in Athens while waiting for whatever horrid news from the EU summit, I remember that last week I DID make my mortgage payment as well as used a credit card. SO I can sit here and bitch at the banks and politicians until hell freezes over, but as long as I am STILL FEEDING THAT SYSTEM … I am indeed partly accountable for whatever XXXX goes down. Keiser phrased it wonderfuly during his last Al Jazeera interview when he said we have to STOP feeding the banks… stop feeding the cancer. Do we have the guts it takes …ALL OF US… COLLECTIVELY… to for just 1 week, not make a single credit card/mortgage/debt payment ect… ? Now that would probably get a message across … or perhaps if we all withdrew our funds from the coffers of the banks? Could we do this?.. or better yet… WOULD we do this? A little self scrutiny IS in order here if one wants to stop getting screwed!

  210. @kostakosta
    Well stated!
I agree with Skopis that “we the people” also have our share of responsibility in this mess. We have to STOP voting in these idiots into power and keep up the protest! Stating that it is like a person who is raped blaming themselves for getting raped instead of the raper is a little too simplistic. If I go out into a bad part of town dressed half naked into a gang ridden bar… get completely wasted on booze, start lap dancing with the thugs… then get raped…. was there absolutely no responsibility on my part for what happened? … unless of course I LIKE getting drunk and lap dancing with thugs. Maybe I am actually angry that the party’s over? The truth is we have to say NO to the bankers, politicians and the rest of the thugs as well as too our own consumer habits… before we are ..totally consumed! (this is not a moral comment discussing “rape” as an actual subject so please, no one get offended. I am responding to Keiser’s comment about “the raped and the raper”)

In fact, the more money you put into the system, the more money comes out

  215. @jim

    Another good post:

“EXPLODE the absurd Asymmetry between…..the rights of the lender(creditor) vs. the rights of the borrower(debtor).”

I’ve viewed it more about the absurd imbalance between Rights and Duties.

A right is a privilege accorded to those who respect the counter-balancing duties required by them. For instance:

I was always led to believe that shareholders have a “right” to earn profits, but a “duty” of governance / supervision of the firm and towards society. Any dereliction of duty should result in the forfeit of rights.

Currently they proclaim it is their “duty” to earn profits, and their “right” to do this must be protected! Indeed as your later post suggests, the state is merely an instrument for further enforcing this poisonous imbalance!!

There is no social contract here. Just a recipe for utter disaster.

These are the guys that have their fingers in the sdr kitty. Oh and they serve somebody: some uber-rich elite class. Those uber-rich elites are writing policy for our future choice. (Bill Gates is their representative over on the side of the Atlantic: restructuring US public education to become charter/subsidy).

Once the currencies collapse the central banks will become obsolete or less powerful, especially the Fed. (Unless the Fed is able to garner some concession from Geithththner’s bosses: regulatory structuring). The people will be running treadmills for carbon allowance. Then the control will be on the new pivot: which is? (my guess is Franco/German)…

But we will see what we will see.

In the meantime: enjoy the show. The tearing down of the old system to the applause of (as Mep puts it) rich white men.

  219. @Murat
She’s not putting the blame on Turkey. Erdogan is one of the most gifted leaders around. Turks are really lucky to have such a guy running the country. A few weeks ago he offered a bilateral drop in defence spending, I don’t know what happened with that. The problem is with NATO and arm dealers. As long as there are arm dealers, corrupt politicians and military making money off arm sales, there will never be peace and quiet.

Bad, bad, bad, example mate. Greek “dress code” have evolved somewhat over the last two decades, whereas Germans don’t care. I believe it’s the tradition factor weighing in here. The protestant tradition in Germany is what’s making them the way they are.

As for whether “Greeks” are borrowing money while not paying taxes. It certainly looks that way and when Skopis says that Greeks should get responsible my take is different from yours. Greek voters have been voting (more or less) for the two main parties for the last 35 years. Every government elected in this given time frame had a 30-35% “majority” in absolute numbers at the time of their election. This number made them feel they had every right to do what ever crap they had in mind. These guys have been taking the money from the poor and giving it to their rich domestic and international friends. If you look at the chasm between the rich and the poor in Greece you’ll undertand what I mean. But they did not stop there. They borrowed and borrowed, and they taxed and taxed to pay for the loans. That money was also getting at the pockets of the usual suspects as always.
When someone says Greeks are mindlessly spending away, I feel like a nigger, and when Skopis says we should be more responsible, I say yeah, let’s overthow those (*).
The thing is that rich Greeks look far more irresponsible idiots that their international counterparts, because the Greek people are less in control. When Sarco’s trying to pull something, the French take to the streets the same instant. This is not the case with corrupt Greek unions colluding with the two parties in power. This is changing though. I’m seeing very angry people and the situation coming to a boil, much faster that it did during the 1929 crash.

  224. The US spends 7% of taxes on debt service while 25% of the work force are “guard workers”. Meanwhile by 2015 all Western countries save Germany and Canada will be bankrupt.

Why just assume that human nature is at fault here, that it’s greed or psychosis?

If all the school children (speculators) are running wild, the teacher is at fault. Why not ask: Who’s the teacher?

  225. Marc Authier

We get the picture. And this is New-York city with the fat bonuses paid to nazis scumbags from Goldman Sachs that pays to taxes and almost no income tax. Yeah I forgot. 1% income tax in the Caymab Islands. I am starting to think that Americans are born without a brain, New-Yorker included.

    3,150 fewer cops
1,000 fewer firefighters, which means the closure of 42 engine companies

    500 fewer parks workers
500 fewer people in the transportation department
    400 fewer librarian

  226. LOL @ Stacy! I saw the article about that idiotic fat lady last week and immediately thought of you. (Because you so often mention American fatness.)

  227. The political class must have had honour unlike our lot who dont do anything wrong.

Apparently “In ancient Rome when politicians had failed so atrociously, they would run themselves a warm bath, and slit their wrists.”

Can you imagine any of our politicians doing anything honourable at all?

I read this article and it looks like we better get ready, again again again…

”So, here is the man overseeing the largest bankruptcy in history telling us that, more than one year on, US regulators haven’t even asked for his professional opinion as to what went wrong and how we can stop a repeat. That’s pretty damning. It certainly speaks to the inability of regulation alone to prevent another crisis. ”

If a CME metals participant applies for an exemption as a bona fide hedger, the CME gets to look at the applicants book. Wouldn’t that be a windfall for someone like GS since that is how GS took out Syngas?

    Debt and Money :
… Greece, Iceland, UK, Spain and all the rest incl. USA

What must be becoming ( hopefully to the people ) patently obvious in all these cases is how the banking system rules, and not Govts. as they are supposed to.

The root of all this is the Central Banking System IMO.
Whether frances wants to call it the BIS or whatever, it is the same system, just different levels.

When Brown nationalized the UK Bank’s debt ..
When Obama/Bush nationalized the US Bank’s debt ..
When the Icelandic Govt. nationalized their Bank’s debt ..
When Greece tried to nationalized their Bank’s debt ..
    etc. etc.

The people of all countries have to decide :
    a) Are they Sovereign ?
    b) or are they slaves to the CBSystem ?

Answer is pretty obvious to me

Effing crazy IMO … “nationalizing” ( socializing ) the Bankster’s Debt.
It is the last thing you want to do .

Hats off to Iceland and Greece for their resistance .. so far !
    Hopefully they don’t give up.

  250. Consumer debt is obviously counter productive, to the consumer albeit beneficial to the factor.
Capital that is leveraged(debt) on a speculative basis is used as an expedient to profit,…….economix 101
    Point being,..Governments don’t make mistakes,…..go figure! : )

  251. the one & only Purpose of the STATE…..is to secure the issuance & collection of DEBT. All functions of the STATE are subordinate to this END.

It is that SIMPLE….the rest is smoke & mirrors. PERIOD.

  252. Marc Authier

    @jim

You are on to something. A lender has a right to default a say to the lender, especially it the lender is irresponsibible, to go hang himself. The money was lended. The lender seems to no responsability whatsoever in the fiasco. In my books I think Heal Skopos is wrong. The lenders are as guilty as the borrowers in the case of Greece. The pain will to be shared by BOTH. It’s not what’s happening neither in Iceland or Greece. The lenders should go hang themselves.

Hows in hells name does someone get to 66:1?! I cant even think that big. Imagine!

  259. Marc Authier

And a default would the creditors to share the pain. The really stupid creditors in the first place that lent all this money should ALSO bear some responsability and some sharing of the pain dear Helen.

  260. @Stacy, NSAtube is the word I have been looking for!

  261. Marc Authier

A popular referendum is the BEST armament to be used against the bankster mafia and the corrupt poiliticians. Popular consultation. Political are not worth a piss and can be bough easily. Referendums and overthrowing the government naturally. You could have both in Greece. A popular referendum and a overthrow of the political ganster running the place. Don’t have to a genius to see that the Greeks should simply default. It would be less terrible and less costly.

  262. I work with a Greek and German here in the US. I am an Indian expat. German is an utter miser and hates the Greek. I know I know.. Indians are cheap bastards… But, this German is worse than any Indian I know. He saves on everything. He photocopies coupons in color. Greek is a flamboyant dude who only wears designer clothing. German has torn levi jeans and black tees. I guess this explains the crisis in Europe.

  263. @Helen Skopis,…Are there austerity measures in the smiling department,..I counted one with teeth, and a smirk! : (

  264. Max…please continue to explore: re; EXPLODE the absurd Asymmetry between…..the rights of the lender(creditor) vs. the rights of the borrower(debtor).

Likewise….the rights of Corporations vs. the rights of persons.

Likewise…..the rights of the STATE(corporation) vs. the rights of persons(incorporated)

    Likewise….all aspects of MONOPOLY…POWER

Please remember it was that disgusting Locke that placed “contracts” before person. Man reduced to Property(State given); not elevated to Personality(God given).

The Corpus of English Philosophy is the Cancerous Squid everyone is looking for….the funny thing is; they having been pulling this shit on the Irish for 1000yrs….maybe ya’ll should have paid closer attention. 266. Great Show Max and Stacey! Thanks Helen for daring to speak the truth!

  267. Casper Studly

Um.. Skopis: typical media bonehead. “We have to be responsible for our actions” meaning “we have to be pummelled and enslaved by thieves and gangsters”. She don’t want to upset her “betters” (betters meaning gamblers, speculators, thugs). Wants to be “credible”. Credibility now means total insanity. An Orwellian world. Bizarro World. Finishing off she says “It’s a free country”. Mhuhahahahahahahahahaha. Bonehead. Do these people who come on this show realize how Max makes them look like twitching retards? Why do they do it? Too stupid to realize? Or what.

  268. Max gets paid by the Octave.

  269. Production produces Capital. Freedom enables Production.

How many people in the world own their own Production?…..not very many.

That’s why they “rent” everything. In order to compensate for their LACK of Production….they “rent” money(debt) to pay for[to] Production(a transfer;not an exchange of Production….that money(debt) is both an indication of their lack of Production as well as “insurance” that they will never “succeed” to owning[achieving] their own Production…Ever.

Just can’t wait seing WWIII between USA and China. Did Roach say where to put the baseball bat ? I know where I would put it in the case of Krugman. This guy is crazy.
