No refineries in US because US won’t have the money to buy the 70% of oil it imports. Who will want the worthless dollar? How will it maintain the country/roads paved with oil? (NOT). (& good comments above about there being little more light sweet crude). Texas can drill some but only if the price stays high. I’ll bet soon that will just stay in Texas. The easy oil is gone. 1) with China and India becoming RISING consumers of automobiles, and the gas that will inevitably fuel them, do you suspect there may be a problem with the Supply and Demand curves shifting a bit?
2) Dwindling global supply output… 9% per year at last check… that means in 8 years there will be HALF the oil being produced…
3) Off-shore drilling has a MASSIVE cost overhang… so.. in order to get at that oil, the price per barrel will go up exceptionally IF that becomes the great hope for future supply…
With a rising cost of production, YOU the CONSUMER will be paying through the nose for everything involved with it…
From FOOD, to Plastics, to Make-up, to Tires, to Chemicals, to DAMN NEAR EVERYTHING…
But, at $150/bbl then the Tar Sands will become profitably viable…
