Resonance 104.4 FM Fundraising Birthday Marathon

Stacy Summary:  I know that our TAM listeners have been especially generous this year with donations to Resonance.  But for those who haven’t had a chance to donate or who want to donate more, this weekend is ResonanceFM’s 8th birthday and they are holding a fundraising marathon this weekend.  Aside from just donating though, there is an auction where you can bid on all sorts of Resonance like experiences, you can also bid on the one and only poster in existence for our ParisLive Radio show, Le Fric Show.  Remember that from 2005?  Anyway, it is item A8.   (I will post image as soon as I scan it)!

    @harry_w – no, no, it’s a real poster we had made; there is just one left, the others were posted in some clubs around paris; not sure if any still exist, most likely they were tossed

    I believe I have a solution to the Irish Housing crisis.
    We should invite all those desperate house hunting israelis into our country.

    They can populate all those remote parts of rural Ireland that the Paddy’s refuse to go.
    Then again it might not be such a good idea in the long run.
    Eventually they would assimilate and become Irish.
    Of course once the population reaches a critical mass the local population will have to make way to provide living space.
    The old Irish will have to all move to Limerick where they will be isolated and bombed on a regular basis.
    Of course to criticise such actions would risk the reputation of any person foolish enough to question such actions , indeed they may even be labeled anti Irish.
    Perhaps its best to level those houses.

    The Unlearned Lesson of the 1987 Crash
    The 1987 crash provided clear empirical evidence of the structural flaw in market fundamentalism, which is the belief that the optimum common welfare is only achievable through a market equilibrium created by the effect of countless individual decisions of all market participants each seeking to maximize his own private gain through the efficient market hypothesis, and that such market equilibrium should not be distorted by any collective measures in the name of the common good or systemic stability.

    This is something liberal individualism (esp neo-liberalism), seems unable to comprehend, because it’s so entwined with market fundamentalism.

    The same individual vs systemic transfer of risk is evident in most financial hedging, e.g. interest rate swaps.

    Thus, financial institutions become risk factories, hedging themselves but transmitting the risk generated and the potential losses to other parties, until the whole system collapses when that risk threatens to turn into reality.

    @Bonn – I was walking with a friend along the coast in Norfolk about 12 years ago, along the sea on a path that looked like this: http://www.go4awalk.com/walkphotographs/mikefry2.jpg when two or three RAF jets were doing some sort of exercise and one of the guys began having fun and flew what seemed like 10 feet above us; it was so close we dove to the ground because we thought he would hit us!
