Ellen Brown: Will Hollywood Go the Way of Enron? Derivatives Come to Movies

Stacy Summary: Ellen Brown’s second half to her article about High Frequency Trading.  We will be interviewing her for this week’s On the Edge about her HFT item.

Whether a movie’s stock price rises or falls is considered to be a predictor of the movie’s future success; but Keiser warns that today, the prediction value of market pricing is largely a hoax. Traders using sophisticated computer programs have learned how to manipulate prices, and market rigging has become institutionalized.

“The only difference between the new box office futures contracts being manipulated and blowing up,” he says, “and stocks in companies like Lehman Brothers being manipulated and blowing up, is that people losing their money can imagine getting screwed by Scarlett Johansson instead of Dick Fuld.”

Keiser predicts that his altered HSX computer technology, if approved by the CFTC for use in a real-money exchange, will produce an insider trader’s paradise, with Hollywood going the way of Enron and Lehman Brothers in two years or less.

“But this is what rigged market capitalism is all about,” he says. “It’s not economics really. It’s arson. They bet against a company or a country and then burn it down.”

    @ Happy Dick: My sister lives in PA and I couldn’t believe all the different taxes she and her husband pay out there. I can’t quite remember the term, but I think she had to pay something called a commonwealth tax just for the privilige of living inside a city. Of course, out west in the town where I live, our taxes are not so “up front,” mostly hidden inside sales taxes and B&O taxes.

    During the military dictatorship in Greece (1967 – 1974) there were international pleas for citizens not to visit Greece, in order to suffocate the colonels. This is what I am asking of you now.

    Don’t visit Greece. Don’t visit Greece until this dictatorship falls. Help us to liberate Greece.

    The two Ambani brothers can buy 100 percent of every company listed on the Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) and would still be left with $30 billion to spare. The four richest Indians can buy up all goods and services produced over a year by 169 million Pakistanis and still be left with $60 billion to spare. The four richest Indians are now richer than the forty richest Chinese.

    In November, Bombay Stock Exchange’s benchmark Sensex flirted with 20,000 points. As a consequence, Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries became a $100 billion company (the entire KSE is capitalized at $65 billion). Mukesh owns 48 percent of Reliance.

    In November, comes Neeta’s birthday. Neeta turned forty-four three weeks ago. Look what she got from her husband as her birthday present:

    A sixty-million dollar jet with a custom fitted master bedroom, bathroom with mood lighting, a sky bar, entertainment cabins, satellite television, wireless communication and a separate cabin with game consoles. Neeta is Mukesh Ambani’s wife, and Mukesh is not India ‘s richest but the second richest.

    In 2004, the United Nations, the representative body of 192 sovereign member states, had requested the Election Commission of India to assist the UN in the holding elections in Al Jumhuriyah al Iraqiyah and Dowlat-e Eslami-ye Afghanestan. Why the Election Commission of India and not the Election Commission of Pakistan ? After all, Islamabad is closer to Kabul than is Delhi .

    Imagine, 12 percent of all American scientists are of Indian origin; 38 percent of doctors in America are Indian; 36 percent of NASA scientists are Indians; 34 percent of Microsoft employees are Indians; and 28 percent of IBM employees are Indians.

    For the record: Sabeer Bhatia created and founded Hotmail. Sun Microsystems was founded by Vinod Khosla. The Intel Pentium processor, that runs 90 percent of all computers, was fathered by Vinod Dham. Rajiv Gupta co-invented Hewlett Packard’s E-speak project. Four out of ten Silicon Valley start-ups are run by Indians. Bolly wood produces 800 movies per year and six Indian ladies have won Miss Universe/Miss World titles over the past 10 years.

    For the record: Azim Premji, the richest Muslim entrepreneur on the face of the planet, was born in Bombay and now lives in Bangalore.India now has more than three dozen billionaires; Pakistan has none (not a single dollar billionaire).

    The other amazing aspect is the rapid pace at which India is creating wealth. In 2002, Dhirubhai Ambani, Mukesh and Anil Ambani’s father, left his two sons a fortune worth $2.8 billion. In 2007, their combined wealth stood at $94 billion. On 29 October 2007, as a result of the stock market rally and the appreciation of the Indian rupee, Mukesh became the richest person in the world, with net worth climbing to US$63.2 billion (Bill Gates, the richest American, stands at around $56 billion).

    Indians and Pakistanis have the same Y-chromosome haplogroup.. We have the same genetic sequence and the same genetic marker (namely: M124).
    We have the same DNA molecule, the same DNA sequence. Our culture, our traditions and our cuisine are all the same. We watch the same movies and sing the same songs. What is it that Indians have and we don’t?

    Donut, interesting way to maneuver. Not at all familiar with this style, but there are ways. I have been in the trades all my life and have not been able to avoid paying tax. Yes, you are absolutely correct about the system being rigged. Here in the states, the rules and code enforcement are just driving up the costs and pushing small business men over the edge. The rigging just gets more expensive as the years pass.

    Being a Canadian Tradesman, it has not been easy for me to do what they state (I am unable to negotiate a contract in depth)…
    HOWEVER, I have worked with a WHITE-collar Engineer that was able to use those ideas to avoid paying taxes…
    and he’s been going strong for 8+ years now…

    So I know that it is a valid method…
    You see, it comes down to ignorance and cognizance …
    If you don’t know how THEY screw you, then you won’t know how to Counter-Screw them…

    You would not believe the amount of mail I receive from the state of PA, tracking owed taxes, they do not miss a penny of it. They just legalized “table gaming” here. PA is out of control on spending, they are in for a wake up call soon, most of the quality jobs are gone now, and the state, quite frankly has run out of alternatives.

    It seems to me that the fact that the SEC has opened and inquiry isn’t important in the case itself.
    Rather it has ‘given permission’ for people (other than Keiser The Great of course) to talk about it on TV, write about it in the MSM and get on board the band wagon.
    I get the feeling that many sectors of business have hated GS for a long time and now they are ‘allowed’ to speak out.
    Even if the SEC fails, this single act will cause fallout way beyond a simple civil case.
