Equity volitility is a result of Basel regulations according to this man:
Dr Hugo Bänziger is chief risk officer at Deutsche Bank and a member of its management board and executive committee

“In aggregate, the proposed measures will increase market volatility during a crisis with a significant impact on the fair value of assets. Shocks that had previously affected banks to different degrees will in future prompt every bank to raise equity and term debt at the same time, or massively cut their balance sheets. With such perfect synchronicity and no room for banks to exercise judgment, it is well imaginable that the next financial crisis would be even more severe than that of the past few years…

New robust regulation is essential for financial stability, but we must ensure we have addressed past issues. Credit ratings could be made less volatile by using stress values or a five-year time horizon; term-financing requirements should be decoupled from credit ratings; liquidity buffers should be accessible when needed; and formation of alternative capital instruments should be encouraged by sensible standards.”

“The hubris associated with the trading crowd is peaking, and heading for a fall that could be a terrific surprise. It seems to be reaching a peak, trading now in a kind of triumphant euphoria after the European capitulation and the recent equity market volatility.”

Everything seems to be ‘amped’ these days, from the journalism to the actions of the politicos. But then, amped is not a word one would use to indication action based on genuine reflection or solid data, but of a reactionary form of emotive appeal reminiscent of revolutionary propoganda.

And who foments revolutions? Well, the royals. At least in the past….

“If you think the massive sudden drop happened because one lowly trader hit one wrong button, if you actually believe that the entire stock market can plunge because of one mistaken key stroke by a low level trader, you are stunningly naïve. I hate to burst your bubble, but this was a direct attack.”

Goldman Sachs Has First Quarter With No Trading Loss (Update1)

May 10 (Bloomberg) — Goldman Sachs Group Inc.’s traders made money every single day of the first quarter, a feat the firm has never accomplished before.

Daily trading net revenue was $25 million or higher in all of the first quarter’s 63 trading days, New York-based Goldman Sachs reported in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission today. The firm reaped more than $100 million on 35 of the days, or more than half the time.

  31. @ dan valley

Yeah, and money grows on trees too!

If the abiotic oil theory were true then:

    1) What makes you think that it will get replaced as fast (or faster) than we can extract it? If it takes nearly a hundred years to get 1 year’s extraction volume it ain’t a flyer.
    2) Why is the oil industry pumping oil out in the Gulf of Mexico and encouraging the state to invade Iraq / Iran to get their hands on Arab oil when there’s the home grown stuff on tap?
    3) What do think did happen to the billions / trillions of lifeforms (plant or animal) that existed on our planet for the last few billion years? Did all that decomposed biomass just get swept out to sea? (I got a sneaky suspicion that they were made up of wierd chemically stuff like hydrogen and carbon, oh, what’s the name of that stuff, yeah that’s it, HYDROCARBONS!)

You’ll be telling us that coal grows on trees next ;-)

  79. @Stacy, do you think they will contain this controlled demolition or will it spin out of control?

  80. It’s convenient that the Dow burp happened while DC’s talking about ‘reforming’ the financial industry. You don’t suppose that the people whose lobbyists wrote the bill had anything to do with what happened last Thursday?

  81. @in2dwww – yes, it’s a controlled demolition; so it isn’t just one currency or one economy, but all and so they are taking turns deflating and they are relying on highly emotional nationalism and patriotism to provide the losers that will make them the winners from the collapse; trillions of new debt has been added in the past 7 days alone, if you care about your own future, I wouldn’t stay emotionally attached to any one artificial metric (whether it is a currency or a share price) constructed by any of the parties involved; imo

  82. But if this is soooooo planned, I still get the impression the Fed and their banksters are fully in control of the coming currency crisis. Then they MUST have a plan for the gold and silver in the aftermath of whatever financial apocalypse we may see

  83. We NEED a crash – AND IT’S COMING! But if it’s a controlled demolition, there will be maintenance in the overvalued and inflated prices – which will be unfortunate.

  89. Kali Yuga
Kali Yuga (Devanāgarī: कलियुग [kəli juɡə], lit. “age of (the male demon) Kali”, or “age of vice”) is the last of the four stages that the world goes through as part of the cycle of yugas described in the Indian scriptures. The other ages are Satya Yuga, Treta Yuga and Dvapara Yuga. According to the Surya Siddhanta, an astronomical treatise that forms the basis of all Hindu and Buddhist calendars, Kali Yuga began at midnight (00:00) on 18 February 3102 BCE [1] in the proleptic Julian calendar, or 23 January 3102 BC in the proleptic Gregorian calendar. This date is also considered by many Hindus to be the day that Krishna died after being mortally wounded by an arrow. Most interpreters of Hindu scriptures believe that earth is currently in Kali Yuga. Some, such as Swami Sri Yukteswar,[2] David Frawley,[3] and Paramhansa Yogananda[4] believe that it is now near the beginning of Dvapara Yuga. The Kali Yuga is traditionally thought to last 432,000 years.

  93. So how do you get away with fraud in Canada? Make the fraud so big that cops choose not to investigate it because they can not commit the resources to the investigation.

Kids in school need to be re-educated. They need to be told that crime does pay when the crime is too big to investigate.

    STORY:

RCMP and the Calgary police have told the Bank of Montreal they won’t investigate what could be the biggest mortgage fraud in Canadian history, CBC News has learned.

Both police forces stated last week they were reviewing the voluminous case — more than 35,000 documents — assembled by the bank’s investigators to see if a criminal investigation was warranted.

But sources have told the CBC that top investigators from both forces recently met with the bank and told it they were not interested in pursuing a criminal investigation.

In an email Sunday, the bank’s Calgary lawyer, Munaf Mohamed, declined comment.

The lack of police response does not surprise former RCMP officer Chris Mathers, who said police forces simply can’t tackle alleged frauds of this magnitude.
