This Might Kill Cantor Exchange

Blanche Lincoln, Wall St.’s thorn in their side, won re-election. She has been lobbying, along with the MPAA, to kill box office futures exchanges. Her defeat would have been a win for these new weapons of mass financial destruction threatening to do an ‘Enron’ on Hollywood.

  1. You’re really missing the mark here Max. Lincoln was handed these tough as nails amendments to the financial regulation bill in order to help her in the primary against someone who might be a bit more liberal. She is as reliable a voter for major corporate interests as any Blue Dog congress critter can be. Setting aside her high probability of defeat in the general election her continued presence in the Senate is about as scary for the banks and financial sphere as an ant is to an elephant.

Those amendments are not her work or her staffs work. Somebody just handed them to her as a matter of political gamesmanship. Maybe the essence of OTC derivatives will be altered but not on her account.

I can’t believe you fell for it.

  2. Lets keep this in perspective:

    1) she barley inched through in the primary race for her own party’s nomination. That can not be interpreted as a resounding success in anyone’s eyes or a mandate from the people to Boss Washington and Wall Street. Her party colleagues are just as likely to avoid association with her as they are side with her after this result.

    2) The battle lines for this primary race were not drawn around Movie Futures.

    3) Lincoln risks being the architect of her own downfall. ‘I stand up to lobbyists and special interest groups’ but ‘I added the very special interest group friendly language to the financial reform bill, banning a yet to be invented product that played no part in the financial crisis, that has not received a full and fair CFTC assessment yet and on which there has been no open public comment or hearing. A ban so specific and targeted that it can only exist as a handout to lobbyists’

Voters do not like that kind of inconsistent message.

  3. @ Wahrheit on “Hollywood”: I’m wit youz.

Hollywood is to the mind is what CO2 is to the environment
It ain’t sustainable and it used up all its magik in 20th century – it’s 21st Century already

  5. Honestly, I think the USA and the world would be much better off if Hollywood were destroyed. Their monoculture has ruined local cultures everywhere and suppressed content creators who would otherwise thrive.

Once WallStreet is decimated, the new order of colonial banking interest can really take off! Wonder if Bill will reward Blanche with an ever better position?

Perhaps she’ll work at the Inter-American Development Bank’s (liquid in sdr/index) future colonial endeavours?

Here’s some photos of Bill Busy in Haiti, doing what he does best!

    “help from Bill Clinton”

Bill’s busy. Wonder who he’s working for? Isn’t he helping out at the Inter-American Development Bank? Didn’t Bill appoint Wolfensohn to the World Bank presidency?

Oh, here’s what Wolfensohn has to say about his pograms:

“Can you give me an honest answer on whether the World Bank has alleviated poverty?
The bank has made a contribution in alleviating poverty, both by monetary contribution, but more important by creating an environment that people can work their way out of poverty. Handouts are simply not doable. You have to create local conditions, and that’s what people want. Poor people want no handouts, but opportunities.”

Handouts are simple not DOABLE. But political rewards ARE.

Expect very soon the credit carbon racket resurected from the dead. They will find another racket and another industry to implode and burn to the ground. Obama ! Obama ! Obama ! Obama ! Yes we can ! No problem. They are presently doing an ENRON on ALL ot the WORLD. These criminal rats should be court marshalled, condemned for high treason and crimes against humanity, and put up in front of a firing squad.
