Well, if the governments aren’t going to protect the myth of the value of fiat currency because they got addicted to the first ownership that printing it affords to banks and governments then there has to come a time the myth will be busted.
Gold has no relationship to paper, but if the paper promise is believed by the gold seller, a buyer may use his paper to create an equitable exchange. If paper breaks down there will not be gold sellers to paper owners. Gold buyers will go for tangible assets..

You mentioned that the 500 Euro note from Germany is marked with the country of origin ie Germany. Well actually ALL Euro Notes are marked that way. Every Euro note issued by Germany begins with letter X at the start of the serial number. There is even a letter reserved for “when” the UK start printing Euors and thats J.
All French Euro Notes begin with a U followed by serial number.
So if Euro falls apart perhaps Ebay will be very busy with Europeans swopping their Euro currency notes to get Euros for their own country . Gives a new meaning to the word “Currency Swaps”!!
