Ron Paul and Barney Frank Call for $1 Trillion Cuts in Military Spending

Stacy Summary: As is so often the case, Ron Paul is the one ‘Republican’ who avoids silly partisan hackery to call for military spending cuts like this. Whether the rest of the War Party (that’s the one single party under which both the Red Team and Blue Team operate) will support it or whether the War Machinery operatives like the NY Times or Washington Post will will stop terrorizing the taxpaying population on behalf of the MIC with stories of existential threats emanating from faraway caves and imaginary desert bunkers is another thing . . . (P.S. – One trillion over ten years is many trillions too little and many years too late; but it was worth a try. Afraid it’s the Soviet Way from here, not too long from now).

“And last, but not least, it’s worth noting that military spending went up over the last 10 years by about 1 percent of GDP. If it were possible to bring it back to where it was 10 years ago, the savings would be 1 percent of GDP. If it were possible to bring it back to where it was 5 years ago, the savings would still be about 0.5 percent of GDP.”

  3. Completely OT, but have to ask: has anyone here been talking about
the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA)? ‘Cause I only just heard about it, and it sounds pretty insane.

Feb. 2010 article on ACTA; April article.

    From the 2nd link:

The treaty has many alarming terms — warrantless border search and seizures of suspected infringed content, government internet monitoring, and more. More alarming is the fact that the U.S. government, of the nations involved, was perhaps the most vocal in demanding that the treaty be kept secret from citizens worldwide.

Text of current treaty draft is here.

The GOP used to be a Ron Paul party the GOP opposed America’s involvement in WWI. It didn’t support WWII until Pearl Harbor. They changed post WWII.

  5. Well cast characters don’t you agree (Assange adn his rat nemesis Lamo)

  6. Excellent video, Mother Earth.

Re: cutting military spending, wish that Ron Paul and Barney Frank would include cutting foreign aid to terrorist states like Israel and terrorist groups like the CIA.

I’m more afraid of anarchy than anything this I believe could led to a far right facist dictatorship in the US but also many European nations too. Look at how the military hates Obama, could they stage a coup if things get really as bad as I believe in the next two years? Mcchrystal spoke for many in the military they don’t respect Obama at all.

  8. Nice try Ron Paul, as the energy war is picking up pace the US military is going to need even more fundings not less. To starve the beast that can take an ugly turn. Witdraw the military from around the world and then disarm it as it comes back to the motherland.

@Mep – no, nether stacy nor max have ever posted on ACTA. But a few commenters have.
You should take a look at this page: http://www.hideproject.org/references/fp7_projects.html for list over projects funded/sponsored by the European Commision. You can also go via cordis.europa.eu/fp7 and search up each project or look up older onces via fp5-fp6

I must throw in this story as well, surprised it comes from the Netherland and it is spreading:
Spy tech that ‘monitors conversations’ being launched in Europe: report

  9. Ron Paul and Barney Frank might as well be pissing into a hurricane.

  10. mr paul will be humiliated in his dealings with frank like bernie sanders ,it hurts to see these people take advantage of him .the clever deciept wich is ambiance and wicked intent the beverage of choice ..the extended hand these people offer will soon grip the dagger .the boldness blatant disreguard disrespect they show towards humility

  11. Might as well get into the details if you are interested in HOW they propose to cut the spending…

  13. Here’s one of the funnier points from Snoot’s article

    • Over $113 billion in savings by reducing the U.S. nuclear arsenal to 1,050 total warheads deployed on 450 land-based missiles and seven Ohio-class submarines;

So does that mean they can only blow the world up 3 times instead of 8?
    gosh…
    what a DRASTIC cut

How about reducing it to 200…
    how about 100?
    what’s the math here?
    $113Bn = 600 warheads
    ergo
and extra $47Bn could be “saved” by ditching an extra 250 warheads
granted, these are just back of the napkin calcs…
    the  is the details…

The UN millenium goals include nuclear disarmament:

  15. frances snoot

How are they going to cut 60B in military health care?

  16. hi @Snoot. the wars will end. just not now. were not broke yet. ;-) can you talk to Bonn about his drinking. water once a day. the skinny fucker only drinks high test.

  17. frances snoot

Bonn’s pistons fire on high-test, Ronron. Water might make his engine seize!

  18. Rush to tap Gulf of Mexico oil in preparation for attack on Iran?

“According to the Wayne Madsen Report (WMR) sources within the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Pentagon and Interior and Energy Departments told the Obama Administration that the newly-discovered estimated 3-4 billion barrels of oil in the Gulf of Mexico would cover America’s oil needs for up to eight months if there was a military attack on Iran that resulted in the bottling up of the Strait of Hormuz to oil tanker traffic, resulting in a cut-off of oil to the United States from the Persian Gulf….

BP still has an ongoing operation to drill down to 40,000 feet below sea level at the Liberty field off the north coast of Alaska.”

that clown R.P. also wants to get rid of the IRS. I’m sure that’ll help things along just fine.

  20. Thank You Stacy, I look forward to ANYTHING this man says anymore, as he’s the one of the only fonts of sanity, honor and valor left in D.C. Quite ironic really, and sad as well.

Awesome commentary by the way (anyone ever tell you you’re a great writer?), and I’m afraid you’ve hit the nail on the head on this one.

Hopefully, we’ll all flip a 180 and become far more local than any of us want to admit we’re heading toward (the only good thing I see coming from Net Reg), much like Russia indeed.

Actually, it sounds as though we’ll be forced into going local, just as soon as they flip the switch on the net (geniuses, lol). I can’t say I’m not looking forward to looking at people face to face, and finally gettin’ some shit done in reality. Hope everyone’s got an old Ma Bell phone stored away somewhere…whether the net goes down or not, I’m sure we’ll need them again eventually.

  21. Ron Paul is the real deal. Franks is not. Paul wants to cut the military to save money and kill the empire. Franks wants to cut the military so he can keep propping up Freddie and Fannie and AIG and do another economy killing stimulus. Franks voted against HR1207. He is a just another front for the Fed.

  22. Chico and the Man

    @Michael

Ron Paul thinks were are still living in the 18th century. Ahhh, what do I care. Vote for him and finish the job.
