  2. Here in Aus, we’re having the *reverse* problem.

Melburnians waking to the equal coldest morning of the year, with the temperature a chilly 3.6 degrees at 7.10am, should brace for wild winds tomorrow.

Something like coldest mornings for the past 20 years or something. So extremes in your hemisphere – same here.

It feels like winter in southern Calif – i have been saying that all week. i walk around wearing a cashmere sweater, always, same thing every day. i am so cold inside. i have all my winter wear on! (it feels like winter for Calif winters).

  9. In Lisbon it’s hot. But it’s as hot as the hottest days from the 80s and 90s. Enjoy the Global Warming- not Anthropogenic of course — soon we’ll head for an Ice Age. Some predictions state it might start as soon as 2015.

  10. It’s nice to see, that the public are so dumbed down, they need the talking heads to explain “it’s going to be a hot one”,..and “make sure you take precautions”,….
Isn’t that method something to do with skin and air,..or summit ? : )

  25. Cool mornings in the upper 30F range in Wyoming USA. Actually it is pretty awesome to be in the early part of July and be so cool and the mountains all green and beautiful. A wet spring and so far very wet early summer has been wonderful for us morts but I fear for the over population of rabbits and antelope.

  26. @jfv65 – if we only had a/c in france! only a few newer buildings, from what I can tell, have it

@Dedo – I take it that you have never been to France, they love the smell of armpit, andouillette and brie

Not that it matters,..but seeing as this is jibber jabber,..why not

  35. @ Stacy. We had power shortages for about 4 months, despite this Vietnam was contractually obliged to sell electricity to Loas and we had power outages for 8 hours a day most days Which was very difficult for the elderly and the young. It certainly killed a few people here with the very high temps and no fans. People were hanging out at the new Supermarkets to stay cool.

Very cold in regional South Australia too… frosts on three nights this week!

There is a coastal-inland differential in SA, as well as a Goyder Line differential. SA has 5 climate zones, as discovered by Goyder in the 1860s-1890s,

Above the Goyder Line you cannot grow wheat.

SA is the driest state in Australia, and to some extent the hottest.

  46. Michael’s post reminded me of a Hopi Nation elder Oraibi who said, “do not look outside yourself for the leader.”

Oraibi also spoke of the importance of letting go of things as they are to embrace change or suffer greatly, and to not take things personally because it stunts us. Which was a nice way of saying it aint about your ego or your stuff.

    http://www.angelfire.com/oh2/peterr/annex/HopiSpeaks.html

It also reminds me of the Peace Pilgrim who speaks of focusing on giving rather than receiving and lining up our day to day thoughts, words, and actions with our beliefs. As we do so, he says one becomes a more whole person, receives/discovers truer beliefs, and develops inner peace.

    http://www.peacepilgrim.com/steps1.htm

For what it’s worth, I’ve recently been making some headway with this and find I’m less stressed and able to get more done in my day to day life.

  54. ronron,….Is acing head,..like an aching head, but not as bad ? : /

  55. @ Daniel S

Cheers for the Peace Pilgrim link. An interesting read so far. I like the idea of the importance of lining up our words with with actions. I think that strikes to the heart of “Te”/”De” or integrity.

There was an interesting interview on the local radio a couple of months ago from Dr. Paul Ekman (the real-life character of which the show “Lie To Me” is based). He talked about trying to make a commitment to honesty in life and how hard it sometimes was. (which says something about ourselves as a society that we’re all probably not ready to hear). I had to admire that. http://www.abc.net.au/classic/throsby/stories/s2930763.htm

It dull and damp in Ireland – we normally get our best weather in May and early June.
By July and August the Great North Atlantic conveyor gets going again.
Well it was a good summer.
    can’t wait till next year………

  57. @Dedo. beer head.

  58. @stacyherbert,
It was 51C in early June this year – a friend says the reading on his car thermometer was 59 that day!. I’ve never seen June so hot. It’s normal for late July – early Aug though.

But we still enjoy our hot tea, indoors of course. We’re used to it :)

    @Mother Earth,
Thanks for the link. The last time I checked prices for setting up a solar system for the house, it would take 20 years for it to break even compared to local power – that’s if you’re lucky and it doesn’t breakdown first (more likely.)

  59. @ Majestic – I’m glad you like it, I hope there is something in there that proves useful for you. Regarding honesty I read about an old stone inscription that seemed to rank dishonesty in kind with war and famine, which struck me because of how differently society considers it today (and gave me that ahh so perhaps I’m not crazy validation as I agree that dishonesty is a severe problem). But for the life of me I can’t find/remember where that stone was. It read something like, may the Gods protect us from wars, famine, and lies.
I will check out your link after a sleep as it’s 5 am here. oops!

Concentrated solar power is the real deal for your area, panels get very hot and then produce less, and csp is easier. In any case I can’t understand anyone i a counrty as sunny as yours that wants to burn anything.. Is anyone there interested in a freelance consultant on the topic? I ‘d love to spend some time explaining extremely cheap desalination, solar airco and even making narutal gas using sunlight (if you have to) ;-) I even have a plan to create rain in your deserts..

  62. @Mother – yes, if you fly over Saudi, it is hours and hours of desert; seems ideal for solar power, but then there is no necessity to innovate in this regard for the population as they have so much oil that is sold so cheaply to its citizens; I believe, however, that Abu Dhabi, despite a tiny population with 10% of the world’s known oil reserves, is financing much research into solar power

And of course you need no research to completely replace oil in that region. Research is needed to protect investements with new patents, while ones for usefull technologies expire without anybody being interested..

Next year two patents expire, one on how to protect mirrors 100% against sand abrasion (so they can be used for years in the desert) with a method using sunlight, the other how to make solar grade silicon using sunlight. We already have 80%cheaper desalination techonolgy practically in the public domain..

Pure irony if the biggest problem is applying the solution..

The First World War must be brought about in order to permit the Illuminati to overthrow the power of the Czars in Russia and of making that country a fortress of atheistic Communism. The divergences caused by the “agentur” (agents) of the Illuminati between the British and Germanic Empires will be used to foment this war. At the end of the war, Communism will be built and used in order to destroy the other governments and in order to weaken the religions.
“The Second World War must be fomented by taking advantage of the differences between the Fascists and the political Zionists. This war must be brought about so that Nazism is destroyed and that the political Zionism be strong enough to institute a sovereign state of Israel in Palestine. During the Second World War, International Communism must become strong enough in order to balance Christendom, which would be then restrained and held in check until the time when we would need it for the final social cataclysm.”

  67. “The Third World War must be fomented by taking advantage of the differences caused by the “agentur” of the “Illuminati” between the political Zionists and the leaders of Islamic World. The war must be conducted in such a way that Islam (the Moslem Arabic World) and political Zionism (the State of Israel) mutually destroy each other. Meanwhile the other nations, once more divided on this issue will be constrained to fight to the point of complete physical, moral, spiritual and economical exhaustion…We shall unleash the Nihilists and the atheists, and we shall provoke a formidable social cataclysm which in all its horror will show clearly to the nations the effect of absolute atheism, origin of savagery and of the most bloody turmoil. Then everywhere, the citizens, obliged to defend themselves against the world minority of revolutionaries, will exterminate those destroyers of civilization, and the multitude, disillusioned with Christianity, whose deistic spirits will from that moment be without compass or direction, anxious for an ideal, but without knowing where to render its adoration, will receive the true light through the universal manifestation of the pure doctrine of Lucifer, brought finally out in the public view. This manifestation will result from the general reactionary movement which will follow the destruction of Christianity and atheism, both conquered and exterminated at the same time.”

International Forecaster July 2010 (#2) – Gold, Silver, Economy + More
By: Bob Chapman, The International Forecaster

… We have found it interesting that the IMF prohibits members from tying their currencies to gold. All of you out there who believe the IMF’s, SDRs, Special Drawing Rights, will be gold backed are mistaken. This historical operating position was further proven when on August 15, 1971 the US closed the gold window. This was the advice Mr. Nixon received from Paul Volcker, who was an early member of the Trilateral Commission and is an Illuminist. Volcker has also been a leader against the US using gold in its monetary policy. Since 8/15/71 there has been an official war against gold by the elitists behind the curtain. It was that seminal event that essentially changed the future of America and the world. At that time US debt was just short of $500 billion. Today short-term debt is $14 trillion and long-term debt is $105 trillion. The engineer of the failure of the US banking system and the failure of the dollar and the rejection of it is at the feet of Mr. Volcker. What he has done to America at the behest of his Illuminist masters is reprehensible. That was eventually followed by the elimination of Glass Steagall and the looting and the collapse of our financial system. This is the result of the corruption of our system….

Sure it’s hot here, (Guelph,ON,CA) but it’s hot here most summers. It is summer in the northern hemisphere after all. I can’t believe all the complaining though we do so every year. We complain about the weather incessantly. it’s what we do. I can remember summers hotter than this back when I was a kid in the 1960′s. But I was a kid and it was all good back then.

  101. @ David – Some of us haven’t experienced heat like this for a long time. Last time it was so hot here was in 1998, and those weren’t back-to-back 95 degree days. Sure was never like this when I was a kid, and I think I’d remember, because we only had one air conditioner (and no fans) in the house, and it was in my parents’ room. We were never desperate to seek shelter from the heat. Had to go check out a cemetery yesterday (a rather shaded one), and just walking around there was terrible. Only thing that comforted me was the idea that it was a good place to have a heat stroke and die. They could just bury me where I fell!

  104. @Mep – We’re not for ANY bio-engineering; but I can tell you from the fact that there is NO obvious plan for dealing with carbon dioxide and methane emissions, for example, that bio-engineering IS the plan and that plan will only happen when the voting population will accept it, in fact, beg for it . . . ie only when it’s too late to do anything else about it; this is similar to what I see with peak oil; the fact is that no government openly discusses peak oil nor are they seriously working toward better, cleaner, more efficient technologies; but if you read any government report into future energy demand and production, you can tell from their forecasts that their plan is, for the most part, coal . . . despite all the talk of new energy technologies and/or older technologies like nuclear

It’s shocking because our nation has been transformed in the exact same way, and followed the exact same steps.

  106. Oh, and heat waves usually feel at least 8 degrees hotter than the actual temp., because of the high humidity that goes along with the high temp. Feel really bad for the people in Baghdad, Beijing, and Kuwait. Sounds like they’ve got the hottest temps of all. Kuwait hit 122! Looks like Baghdad’s supposed to hit 120 on Sunday, 122 on Monday. Yikes. Can’t imagine what that must feel like for the “allied” troops, who must be the hottest people of all with all of the freaking gear they have to wear and carry.

RockefellerFoundation predicts 2012 pandemic, economic collapse, marauding gangs http://forum.prisonplanet.com/index.php?topic=178159.0

In 2012, the pandemic that the world had been anticipating for years finally hit. Unlike 2009′s H1N1, this new influenza strain – originating from wild geese – was extremely virulent and deadly. Even the most pandemic-prepared nations were quickly overwhelmed when the virus streaked around the world, infecting nearly 20 percent of the global population and killing 8 million in just seven months, the majority of them healthy young adults. The pandemic also had a deadly effect on economies: international mobility of both people and goods screeched to a halt, debilitating industries like tourism and breaking global supply chains. Even locally, normally bustling shops and office buildings sat empty for months, devoid of both employees and customers.

The pandemic blanketed the planet – though disproportionate numbers died in Africa, Southeast Asia, and Central America, where the virus spread like wildfire in the absence of official containment protocols. But even in developed countries, containment was a challenge. The United States’s initial policy of ‘strongly discouraging’ citizens from flying proved deadly in its leniency, accelerating the spread of the virus not just within the U.S. but across borders. However, a few countries did fare better – China in particular. The Chinese government’s quick imposition and enforcement of mandatory quarantine for all citizens, as well as its instant and near-hermetic sealing off of all borders, saved millions of lives, stopping the spread of the virus far earlier than in other countries and enabling a swifter post- pandemic recovery.

  115. @ Stacy – My cynical guess is that we don’t talk about the more grave consequences of climate change or peak oil, because if people really understood the problem, they might do things like drastically decrease their consumption. Governments can’t have that. That would just make the depression deeper, and who knows what would happen with currencies.

If the Obama admin or succeeding admin. asked us all to paint our roofs white, I’d do that. But that’s just about the only thing I’d be on board for. And I’d only do it if they were making serious attempts to curb emissions. Still don’t quite understand why Obama hasn’t gone the way of Carter and put some solar panels up on the White House. Guess he’s too afraid of the oil/coal lobbies and the climate change deniers.

  116. @ Stacy

And you can also make oil from coal too … although that obviously also costs energy to do.
(If we ever get to that stage of needing to do so; expect net ROE to go through the floor while prices go through the roof)

  125. Fairly normal weather here in northern California, after a very late (rainy and cool) spring. Days are in the mid-90s (F), nights in the 60s.

Here in the foothills, the soil did not warm up enough for planting until the middle of June. The planting season is about 3 weeks behind, and everyone is playing catch up, trying to get their garden stuff done. We have a relatively short growing season, 15 May to 15 Oct.

  126. @ Grisu – Nice. Looks pretty solid, and wow, that little guy’s even got a hitch!

  127. @norcalkid – Wow. We were a little over 3 weeks ahead of time. I started putting some things in the ground in the end of March. Soil wasn’t consistently above 50 degrees at that time, but it was darn near close. Everything has been early. People here (Western New York) started harvesting both strawberries and peaches a whole month early . . . in May. Got fingers crossed for tomatoes this year. Last summer, I got late-season blight, but it wasn’t so bad for me personally b/c I was able to harvest so much; local farmers, however, got slammed–most lost 70-75% of their crops.

This week in Victoria B.C. it is a bit of a heat wave. We are in the High 20′s/Low 30′s for the week. Not bad considering May was very cold and so was June. Averages are off by about 3 degrees C each month to the low side. It is supposed to get back to the high teens/low 20′s in the following weeks. I have been keeping a Weather journal for about six years now. Trend is lower overall with hotter hots and colder colds. With all of that Yummy black oil on the surface of the Gulf, it must be a furnace down there.

  132. Enjoy the heat.

Based on solar activity the next 10 years will slowly get colder, according to this report

    http://nzclimatescience.net/images/PDFs/solar_arch_ny_mar2_08.pdf

Globally, we have had 10 years of temperature decline since that peak in 1998, with a rate of decline of 0.06 degrees per annum. I am expecting the rate of decline to accelerate to 0.2 degrees per annum from the end of this decade.

  133. @Grisu
Very sweet looking car! Have fun.

San Diego – overcast today, just how I like it. Slight breeze. I’ll be moving soon, but do not know where. Any ideas? Anyone know about Oregon?

  134. Its hot today but nothing out the ordinary. It follows a very cold winter, and summers that have been quite mild.

There’s no need to panic just because we have a few hot days. As I said enjoy it. The future is colder weather.

  137. Fiatmentalist

    @Mep

You ever talked to enviromentalist that are part of the establishment? Next time you do, dont lead the conversation, just prime it with various questions. Eventually they will blurt out that theres too many people on the planet, in differing degrees of apology.

They never tie it to the money changers. They dont tie increasing population to poverty and less opportunities for women. They dont equate improving mankinds condition with a resulting improvment in the enviroment. Their only conclusion is man = mental illness = eco disaster.

    As for the Met Office

    http://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/spl/aberdeen/volunteer-weather-station-for-climbers-to-continue-1.2664

No one going out doors in Scotland uses their forecasts, go figure. They have been attacking mwis for 4 years now.

  138. @ SAO – My husband has a friend who lives out there and loves it. Don’t know what exactly about it he loves, though (besdies the big trees), so I can’t be too helpful there. Looks like Oregon’s tax system is pretty progressive. See page 90 here. Some demographics are here.

  139. @ fiatmentalist – I’ve actually never had the population conversation with an environmentalist. Have had it, though, with people who deny that emissions are a problem. And as long as we deny that, we won’t have to worry about the population, b/c millions will die off anyway due to energy, food, and water shortages in the near future.

  140. The humidity in Thailand has me Whacked! @ Bonn, I should have stayed in India to enjoy the monsoon ;-)

  141. @Mep

should we all somehow survive peak chaos and peak everything else,
I promise you a ride around Paris in my magic carpet DS at the next parade.

Same goes to all other friendly inhabitants of Keiserville and of course to

  142. Its not so much the heat as the humidity. I can’t even breath without sweating.

  143. Its pissing down in Ireland and its not warm, mind you its incredibly green

  144. Yes, we here on the North American Continent are certainly hot. In fact, the heat wave extended along the whole Eastern Seaboard of the North American continent for the last several days.

Is this global warming? Or, is our whole solar system warming? Or, is it the the planetary visitor: Planet X ,in our solar system adding who knows what kind of heat into our solar wind?

I can only say this, ‘problem sources’ were much easier to figure out in the past. Now, it seems we either ‘know too much,’ or we know nothing at all because we can’t seem to figure out who or what to blame?

Like I said, figuring out problem sources were much easier to fathom in the past. You knew what made you hot, cold, wet, dry. It was simple.

In the past, you even knew who your enemy was. Today? Who is the enemy? Al Quida? Taliban? Saudis? Iran? Pakistan? You tell me, because I don’t know anymore.

So, if you were to put together a graphic novel, and you wanted to define an enemy..made in the past…you knew who to designate the enemy coming at you from the past.

There’s a paradoxical comfort in knowing who is the enemy, even if one believed: ‘what could one have possibly done to earn an enemy?’

Is it possible that what ever the source of our suffering, we have done some kind of evil to man/woman or nature to have earned our suffering?

  145. @Mep
Thanks for the info on Oregon.

I use that service all the time when I am trekking in Scotland – it is very regional specific.

B.C. heat breaks more temperature records

Dozens of daily temperature records were broken across B.C. on Thursday as a high pressure system continued to bake the province in the first hot spell for 2010.

On Thursday the highest temperature recorded was in Lytton, which hit a scorching 38.4 degrees, more than three degrees above the previous record of 35.

In Vancouver temperatures hit a record 28.1 degrees, while Victoria, Abbotsford and Agassiz all hit more than 33 degrees. Across the interior temperatures hit the mid-30′s.

Daily records were also broken in White Rock, Pitt Meadows, Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Pemberton, Whistler, and several other B.C. communities.
