My main objection to your argument was that – at least the way I understood it – you presented the opressive nazi regime as prosecuting communists, who were just a political group like any other.

    For me, this was a group of people who swore allegiance to one totalitarian regime, only to be hunted down by its mirror image. given the extent of the Reich – SU cooperation

    @Konrad – I think you will find that communists were, indeed, Hitler’s first victims; and this is why the famous saying, “First they came for the communists . . . ” begins as such (then they came for the trade unionists, then the Jews); Hitler seized one party rule via anti-communist rhetoric and hysteria following the Reichstag fire http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reichstag_fire

    The fire was used as evidence by the Nazis that the Communists were beginning a plot against the German government. Van der Lubbe and four Communist leaders were subsequently arrested. Adolf Hitler, who had been sworn in as Chancellor of Germany four weeks before, on 30 January, urged President Paul von Hindenburg to pass an emergency decree to counter the “ruthless confrontation of the Communist Party of Germany”.[2] With civil liberties suspended, the government instituted mass arrests of Communists, including all of the Communist parliamentary delegates. With them gone and their seats empty, the Nazis went from being a plurality party to the majority; subsequent elections confirmed this position and thus allowed Hitler to consolidate his power.

    This was in 1933 and 1934 before the anti-Jewish laws of 1935

    Great show – as usual :) However, I take a bit of an issue with the Orwellian analogy used by Stacy in the first half:

    1. Starting the list of nazi regime’s victims with communists is a little strange: the cooperation between the Third Reich and the Soviet Union worked flawlessly until June 1941 (operation “Barbarossa” – the German strike against SU). Moreover, even in the 1930, multiple red paramilitaries operating in the post-Weimar chaos switched their allegiance to brown.

    2. By contrast, anti-Jewish laws started being passed as early as 1935 (the Nuremberg laws) – so it was not about a trasfer of hatred, Jews and other “untermenschen” were on top of the hitlist from the very start

    3. While I am no scholar in the field, I would argue that Orwell’s 1984 had less to deal with the rise of fascism in the 1920′s and more with his education period (boarding school evoking Dickensian nightmares) on the one hand, and his participation in the Spanish Civil War (on the republican side!) on the other. Given that “1984″ was banned everywhere east of the Iron Curtain, the description was probably a bit too close to reality for the commie authorities comfort.

    That being said, I still think the link between “two minutes of hate” and the FB-virtual currency b-s is an excellent – if disturbing – food for thought.

    Wow !
    What a great show.
    The creative thinking you all inspire is so refreshing, at times it seems you are on the brink of a real breakthrough but alas the format does not allow for a deeper plunge.
    Couple thoughts :
    The new money discussed in face book is no different than the fiat system in place across the world today. Even giving value to metals that are not used in the production of goods is the same adherence to a set of rules established by the makers of the game. People play the game and behave because they have been schooled in the system.

    You both do a fine job of pointing out the rule breakers of the game.
    But at the end of the day the game is rigged and a sham.

    I’m saying a trip to India might clear the head and help to manifest a new game, better than “Farm-vile” or Western flim-flam gingerbread man capitalism.
    The gingerbread man can run as fast as he can but his 401K is going to get eaten by the government ( ie. banks getting bailed out and sending you the bill)

    Last one: you mentioned the poor, stupid or both doing the job just to survive, taking the work, prison guard , TSA or whatever…Love the metaphors of those “the Good ,the Bad and the Ugly films where at gun point you dig a hole for the gold that becomes your grave.
    And the poetry is “those with bullets don’t dig”
    They, the ones running the game have the bullets and we have been doing the digging for centuries.
    But a deeper metaphor may exist where we choose to dig and believe that there is a treasure to be found.
    When there is no treasure only exploitation of labor.

    Thanks for the show, it was one of the better to listen to and thanks for making me aware of the “perfect citizen” story which I obviously overlooked this week.

    Now a question:
    As cash is the only legal tender/forced payment method (assuming it is like that in most countries) that we have, at what point will we give that same status to account money? (account money as in money connected to for example debit or credit card – digital money if you like)

    I listen on an Apple i-Pod. Audio was clear as a bell this week, so I don’t know what Bonn’s problem was. I’m wondering if Max’s transgender character has a name, and if it will be making regular appearances on the London broadcast. Also what exact brand tape is the TG character using for that??? Is that issue a SHORT or LONG play????

    The RAF in Germany did actually kill leading men (bankers and politicians), which may count as a real indicator of non-inside-terrorism.

    Stacy, it’s incorrect to say there is no inflation in virtual currency due to limited time by users. There are plenty of cases where a computer can emulate the actions of a person and thus privately encourage development of such systems.

    In gaming this has been done. The game systems now have tje challenge users with unique queries to identify humans from computers. And the computer systems have even been adapted to that quickly recognizing the challege and routing to a human.
