  1. The reason the price of oil went up was BECAUSE of the fall in supply. For some reason many people fail to comprehend that a cartel means a group of producers driving down supply to increase the price. Yet people seem to think that the oil cartel is different some people actually believe that the oil cartels are trying to maximise oil output. There is vast oil reserves around the world, any oil shortage is artificially contrived by cartels trying to bid up the price and make more profits.

Oil is abiotic, it exists in effectively unlimited quantities beneath the earth. This is why Russia is seeing their production increase even though they are supposed to have peaked decades ago. OPEC are getting pretty annoyed at Russia increasing their oil output rumor has it.

  2. Why is the Washington Post not only late to the game on this story, but not crediting their predecessors? See Democracy Now!’s much more comprehensive coverage, featuring Tim Shorrock (.com), author of “Spies for Hire” on privatization of intel. See also Russ Baker’s new book, Family of Secrets, for an update on the Post’s historical connections to the intel community, as well as G. W. Bush’s statement that intel was privatized in the U.S. *decades* ago (on his watch). You might ask yourself what purpose is served by the Post publishing this report now: is it trying to reveal, or to control/limit the story? Shorrock: “I’m shocked at the paucity of new information and anecdotes.”

  3. @Stacy & Max – Was just watching an old show (november 2009) of the Keiser Report. Allot has happened between nov 2009 and today, but nothing has changed.

    Saving is Futile….

It’s the End of the World As We Know It

What are 308,367,109 Americans supposed to do?

How does one decrease the cost of labor in America? Well first, you have to bust the unions. Check.

Then you have to create a pressing need for people to work – perhaps give them easy access to credit and then get them to go so deeply into debt that they will have to work until they die to pay them off. Check.

It also helps if you push up the cost of living by manipulating commodity prices. Check.

Then, take away people’s retirement savings. Check.

Lower interest rates to make savings futile and interest income inadequate. Check.

And finally, threaten to take away the 12% a year that people have been saving for retirement by labeling Social Security an “entitlement” program – as if it wasn’t money Americans worked their whole lives to save and gave to the government in good faith. Check.

Newspaper Chain’s New Business Plan: Copyright Suits

By David Kravets July 22, 2010 | 3:29 pm | Categories: The Courts, intellectual property

Steve Gibson has a plan to save the media world’s financial crisis — and it’s not the iPad.

Borrowing a page from patent trolls, the CEO of fledgling Las Vegas-based Righthaven has begun buying out the copyrights to newspaper content for the sole purpose of suing blogs and websites that re-post those articles without permission. And he says he’s making money.

“We believe it’s the best solution out there,” Gibson says. “Media companies’ assets are very much their copyrights. These companies need to understand and appreciate that those assets have value more than merely the present advertising revenues.”

The Arabs have easier oil but they have to wait till their old wells fill up with oil again. Do your research! Oil is Abiotic.

Prove? In fact BP hit a Abiotic well in the gulf with huge amounts of Methane which proves this. Same as the presence of methane on Saturn’s moon.

Well here Gregor MacDonalds says it – The Basterds in London, who decide the oil price, keep it below $75 a barrel to create an artificially scarcity later. Also to push the Peak Oil bogus.

People who DID do their research on oil know that the Arabs admitted to the fact that they made a deal with the London oil scamsters to lower the price of oil signifivcantly every 5 years to wipe out any alternative oil energy investments and research to keep the oil oligarchy going.

  63. The maddened Wall street and London City financial elites may soon take us down this road as they try to stave off collapse—STOP THESE MANIACS NOW!
The immediate threat of a pound or dollar currency collapse is leading the ruling financier factions to reconsider a very dangerous flight forward in the form of an attack on Iran, precisely because such an aggression would likely lead to a blocking of the Straits of Hormuz or in any case to a serious disruption of one third of the world’s tanker traffic. Following the tested model of the Kippur war/oil boycott of October 1973, the US-UK financiers would bid up the price of oil to $500 or $1000 per barrel, thus creating enough demand for dollars to soak up much of the dollar overhang and prop up the greenback, at least for a time.

It is good that we can set up a contract with the bank in order to agree over the fee prices and the interest rate accompanying the credit card use. How weird would it be if a bank could change the terms in your contract of credit card as they pleases, changing fees and interest rate without even asking you if it is okay or not, no I’m glad we don’t have that anymore . . . phew!

Re: Tar Sands, there was an oil company who applied to get 25% of the flow
of a major river system in Alberta. Since the laws are tilted to industry the farmers and ranchers were fukd. Turns out that because of seasonal flows the river has only 2% of its flows during 6 months of the year. A large chunk of Alberta would go dry with the oil company taking every drop.
Luckily the gov found a backbone and protected the resource.

First Lesson in Lawschool: You can’t make retroactive laws for all kinds of reasons. One is that people have to be able to trust the Laws and the system and retroactive laws undermine that.

But maybe they got the the idea that nobody trust them anyways so they don’t care about that anymore.

Thanks for the link. I watched it, and what stoke me the most was the statistics about 1965. But these were the good old days, before the occupation, before the political power of the left was watered down the way it was. Israel was founded, in practice, but the Jews that belonged to (but not only, of course) the European left. In time, as the structure of the population changed and more conflict took place, there was a huge tendency to the right. And then you get idiots like Netanyahu. And Liberman. And their moron friends. Or the religious parties. The guy on the film was really put the “weapons on target”.

  95. The disaster in the Gulf was driven by BP to obtain super deep and possibly abiotic oil supplies. The mega use of Corexit to destroy the evidence makes my point. The risk and costs of offshore super deep drilling cannot be more than retrofitting refineries to run on unconventional shale oil and or coal to liquids. A friend of mine’s father ran a coal to liquids fuel refinery in the late 70′s and it produced an amazing quality of fuel. My point is, we could goto coal / shale oil reserves and greatly reduce our dependence on foreign oil. And stop the financial hemorrhaging of our $ going overseas. This would spur a lot of energy jobs in the US as well. I make my living on funding and building alternative energy projects. I’ve been a staunch opponent of the energy monopoly that runs this country. But, it is critical we use our own mega reserves of coal as nasty as that is. It’s much easier to enforce pollution statutes on shore. It can’t be as disastrous as offshore drilling has proven to be. The oceans may be affected for decades. We must pick our poisons carefully until we can transition into more sustainable energy sources. Addicts have few choices.

“How is it Americans can be so moronic that they do not know how China and Russia feel having America be the aggressive Debtor nation”

Until the spigot is cut off Americans will go on like nothing has happen. That’s not to say many aren’t trying to dig out of their own debt, but as prices go up, wages go down and jobs become scares it’s getting tougher and tougher to do the right thing. Americans, like most people in the world, are creatures of habit and to some extent victims of their own curiosity and education, or lack there of.

When Layman fell that should have been it, but Paulson and Bernanke went out, printed more money, twisted a lot of arms while making big scary threats. Then they jumped into a time machine and robbed the American children of their future. They used the funds to pay off DB and BOS as hush money then summarily divvied up the rest to their banking friends on Wall Street.

The GOP stalled the process long enough to pass the problem on to the Democrats. The Democrats, desperate for power, dropped to their knees before Wall Street’s bidding; Geithner appointed as SOTT by Obama was proof of that.

The media is owned by corporations on Wall Street, some of the biggest players are on the board of the NY Federal Reserve.

TE Lawrence said, ‘to determine a nation’s destiny those in power must control two fundamental domains, communication and transportation.’

    We know who owns both.

I personally think, under the circumstances, there’s no other way to stop the crooks on Wall Street, but for states to secede, or at least make a good threat.

When it comes to Russia… perhaps Igor Panarin isn’t so far off, though his prediction might be a bit early; http://jischinger.wordpress.com/2010/02/26/secede

However, the secession and nullification movements are growing.
    http://jischinger.wordpress.com/2010/05/11/secession

I think it would be great if Max and Stacy invited some of these people on their show. Particularly, Professor of Economics, Tom Naylor and Russian Political Scientist, Igor Panarin. Both would make very interesting guests.

  98. @farang, good post. Thank for the insight.

As I see it very war has been fought for oil. Not oil for the citizens, but oil for the military. The military protects the cartel. The cartel supplies the military. Of course we the people supply all the money and the personnel without questioning and stopping the insanity from the get go.

I hope they do not monkey around with social security again, but they will. They want it all. Still can’t get over them putting the gold tax in the phony health care bill. I still yet to read the thing. Too pissed.

The huge oil gusher in the Gulf of Mexico is beyond belief. That should have everyone’s attention. Soon it will. The most unscrupulous caused the catastrophe and are still in charge. Unbelievable. Obama is covering. The truth is being withheld.

There is a great human experiment going on.

Germany, China, Russia….who will weld the money and who will weld the power? It won’t be the US. The pendulum swings.

    @SAO
And with places like the tar sands in Alberta you need 8 litres of water to produce ONE litre of oil ! Alberta irisks running out of water witl all these heavy oil plants. I am not kidding..

  122. Geithner axed Warren
    the fix is in, again

    what will Americans do?

  123. Mr. Obvious here:

BP wouldn’t be drilling 35,000 ft under the sea if oil was still easily obtained in the extraction methods of yore. Canada wouldn’t be fouling their own shores for ages if oil could be easily supplied from another source in the world.

Those folks that dream about some magical conversion from nothing into hydrocarbons in some magical hoodoo deep Earth process need to read about how specific oil geologists are about the oil fields they locate and tap into. They know which eon layer of reserves they have hit. There is no mystery: continental plates constantly push one under the other, over billions of years this is shoved into the deep Earth, and the plant and animal carbon is converted at heat and pressure into hydrocarbons.

Eventually, the source runs out, and the oil is harder to extract (uses more oil) then what is extracted. You don’t have to “run out”, you just have to run out of economically feasible oil to extract. I’d wonder if the BP well isn’t proof of that.

There is simply no “replenishing” of oil fields, the geology of the Earth has changed drastically since that period, and those so stating that there is “replenishing” sound like Flat Earthers. Again, the reports from BP’s disaster told of hitting the Cretaceous then the Jurassic crude…does anyone ever read the whole article except me?

I have no idea when it will be that we “run out”…but if it becomes true production is not being increased when/if demand returns…if there turns out to be shortages (recall the lines/fist fights at gas stations in Southern China a few years ago?) and insufficient supplies and soaring oil prices…. I’d say that was a good indication the “Peak” done came and went.

So, when the hyperinflation hits the US, expect war. (subtle segue) Won’t hit? Give me one good reason we won’t print trillions to cover Debt? Jobs will be pulled from posteriors to do what? Make what? Sell what? Ship what, to whom, that can’t make it cheaper?

Multi-trillions will be printed up, like 20 times what we have already printed up and gave to banks. Once it starts: game over. It will be some sight to see in America…from here in Thailand.

The US military is the largest entity user of oil. And now China is the largest user of oil….I believe they are called “competitors”…so which currency will you accept as an oil producing country? If you are Venezuela, and all the grief we cause them? I’d demand gold bars. If you are Iran, and we covet your oil, and lie about you having nuclear weaponry and punish your citizens with embargo…what do you do? I damn sure don’t sell you oil, ever again. I nuke it before you get it.

Can the US continue to send pallets of freshly printed US $100 bills to Saudi Arabia, UAE and expect them to accept it for their oil, or will they change to Yuan-based payment? Or want gold. Or what if Mexico decides to back their currency with gold and silver tomorrow: would Mexico have the World’s Reserve Currency? I say yes. The Mighty mighty Peso…has no ring to it…but how about the Swiss Franc backed by gold? Or a German Golden Euro? Now that has a nice sound to it…

Whichever country does this first is going to shock the financial world. Germany? Or China?

What ever happened to the Iranian Oil Bourse? What currency do they accept? What was it we just embargoed them for, again? How long after Saddam declared he now accepted Euros instead of dollars for Iraqi oil was it before he was on the “Evil Axis” list, eh? One month.

We got us a Fascist Party with two wings, Covert and Overt, “both” invested in a trillion dollar+ military that is used as security for oil corporation theft of Iraqi/world oil: meanwhile China wages capitalism against us and is winning. They think in centuries, we have CEOs thinking in 3 month “bonus” periods. Wonder which “vision” will prevail?

Yes, we pay for “our” military to protect oil corporation’s booty, but just mention protecting our markets from slave labor wage goods (which if we emulated we then can’t afford to buy… the goods these clowns want to sell, that are made in China, did they never hear of Henry Ford?) and the shouts of “protectionism” will make your ear drums burst.

I know who the “Axis of Evil” is, and it ain’t hard to figure. What the hell are those missiles for in Poland? To “protect Europe from Iranian missiles?” Bwahahaha, yeah. Like protecting Mike Tyson from farang.

How is it Americans can be so moronic that they do not know how China and Russia feel having America be the aggressive Debtor nation….makes everyone nervous when the bully is hungry and broke. Especially a lazy one that cheats and counterfeits for his cash. That tortures. That rapes children and women. That tazers it’s own elderly population…in their own bed. To death.

That hands cronies trillions while adding that to the masses’ debt, while telling old folks to work until they are 70. It’s like they have a huge neon sign saying “hubris: full up, hang me now” sign around their shoulders.

Sorry, won’t do. I’ll be taking aim at the proper targets if my SS check don’t arrive on my 65th birthday. What do I have to lose, another 5 years of work if I last, then death in 5 more? No, they simply went too far this time, and they have no clue what is going to happen.

I keep hearing about how “they never planned for us to live so long”…hahahaha, damn, they didn’t kill us all off working 60 hours a week with no raise in real wages since 1970….yeah, we live a whole extra 1 or 2 years now. Odd how you never hear about where the money goes when some poor fool laborer crokes at 66 after working every day for 45 years.

I’ll say this though: any politician that votes to raise the age of eligibility now? Their life span will decrease rapidly.

    I’ll be taking names.

  124. @ SAO

And is he after a table dance with Stacy or Max?

    http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-07-22/hungary-wants-to-restore-economic-self-rule-after-imf-spat-orban-says.html

Could it catch on amongst other Eastern European states?

  127. BINGO!! MAX!!

You hit the nail on the head when you talked about the water connection in Iraq. I didn’t realize it took two barrels of water to make one barrel of oil. WOW!

I’ve read that 2/3 of the world would be without fresh water by 2025. Iraq has the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. Get water supply. The US built the world’s largest embassy on the Tigris for close to a billion dollars. It will take $1 billion a year just to keep it going. Most all US military bases on Iraq are on both rivers.

But water is the oil of the 21st century.

Thanks for bringing water up. Also, the fact that people are apathetic. There are a lot of reasons for this. That is one nut that should be cracked.

  128. I think it’s possible when reduced to its most basic form, to view money as a proxy for energy.

Be it oil or human labor, everything that we spend our money on is ultimately derived from this foundational equivalence.

Energy is such a critical component of not only the economy but our lives as well (eg heating, cooking, lighting, transportation to/from work, etc). Even our food comes from energy (what’s “the Oil Drum’s” estimation(?) 8 calories of energy to produce every one calorie of food (or thereabouts).

And when food transport costs rise, our income’s value decreases. When our own petrol costs rise, ditto. A massive flow-on domino effect where prices spike across the board with just a nominal increase in that one value.

The fiscal consequences from Peak Oil therefore (the real-world ones are worse) might be viewed as something like a systemic world-wide currency depreciation or alternatively like a kind of global inflation.
[hmm, it's late, need to give this some more thought sometime]
