Stacy Summary: We look at the scandals of the summer sequel of bankers returning to the scene of the crime to demand another, bigger ransom in “Deflationary Black Hole: The Sequel.” In the second half of the show, Max talks to documentary filmmaker, Bregtje van der Haak about her film “Time for Change”, in which ordinary people respond to the crisis of banking and bankers with their own solutions.

Max….that comment about the derivitivaholics(sp?) is an all-time classic. Havent laughed so hard in years, considering the economic climate these days. Oh, and Stacy, i love you. Too strong??? Sorry, my bad. Keep up the good work, both of you. Cheers.

I know more about Chavez because I have a Venezuelan wife?
That doesn’t make sense and I didn’t say that.
You said that.
I said that I have lived in Venezuela and have seen it for myself.
Reading classes down the hall on the right.
@Mini US
Your judgement about Chavez is too feable. You are saying that you know better than anyone here about Chavez because you have a Venezuelan wife.
It also can mean that you are more biased and have more prejudices cause you have a Venezuelan wife. Objectivity is important.
@Charles
Maybe you should scrape the clay off your feet and jump on a plane and go see reality and stop judging from afar.

@Chris
I do though, adore the concept of AstroEconomics. That is basically what we have in current day: bankers that have created financial instruments inspired by the mathematical models of Stephen Hawking. Uffda!
@Chris
I don’t know who WL is, so I don’t really know if you are being serious or not. If we define a Black Hole as a mysteriously small area of relatively dense x-ray emission, then yes, we have discovered Black Holes. Instead, if we construct an elaborate mathematical concept to make the rest of our imaginative model work, filled with bizarre event horizons where the concept of gravity is stretched well beyond any previously useful status and not allowing light to escape, then we take our preconceived model and look to the skies to find them, then no, we haven’t discovered anything of the like. At best we have discovered points on the map of the skies [like Cygnus x-1] that haven’t yet been ruled out as indicative to the existence of such a thing. All we know about Cygnus X-1 is that a small area on our skymap indicates measurably dense x-ray emission. Anything else we “know” about it is yet highly speculative: that it has mass, that that mass might be similar to our Sun’s, and with extreme speculation, that it might be less than thirty kilometers wide. Max’s use of the term Black Hole is FAR more useful.
@mirror, mirror
Unfortunately what Cheney or Bush would drop would be either bombs or toxic chemicals.
@John Robb
Perhaps its time to start a new field: AstroEconomics. By the way Black Holes are real. Cygnus X-1 was the first discovered. Just ask WL.

@bankers = bokors =BOKOR$ ? coincidence ?
Bokors are featured in many Haitian tales and are often associated with the creation of ‘zombis’ by the use of a deadening brew or potion usually containing poison extracted from puffer fish. This potion makes the drinker appear to be dead and thus he is often buried; later, the bokor will return for the “corpse” and force it to do his bidding, such as manual labor.

I assumed most of your information came from family of friends…I can walk down the street and be regaled about the EVILS of CUBA from EX Patriots….well this has jaded me drastically as a child, southern and America when I would visit.
Wonder what type of lifestyle those ex pats were enjoying before the rise of Castro or Chavez or who ever the devil was…wonder if they were fighting for basic dignity for ALL of their fellow countrymen…my gut tells me know…they were like our comfortable middle-upper class who will step over people in the street to get into their Hummers
Because if they were FIGHTERS for the weak and oppress then they wouldn’t have bugged out of their own country…they would’ve stayed and fought the “New” oppressor but they didn’t they ran and whine about not having their money
Sorry I know it is hard for people to understand…but if the State Feeds, clothes, Educates you which even the worst of them do by providing minimal level of infrastructure and security you have some obligation to it….no if you want to pack up your kit bag and leave….you should be able to, but to demand your property tells me what you value…not Freedom but shinny bobbles
So cheer up as I awoke this morning Glenn Beck was on telling the stories of how he meet a women from Venezuela who was telling her that the Oboma administration is just like Chavez…and beating the silent war drum against that country
I don’t trust Chavez, and think it is a mistake for the Left to saddle up to close to him, because he has to hold power and make the trains run on time…doing this he will have to compromise to much

Stop saying that technology will solve the problems if you don’t stand up to the industry that stifles progress by locking up patens or staling inventions.

@jischinger
You raise some interesting points. In 1926 Frederick Soddy (Wealth, Virtual Wealth and Debt) was asking the same question about why despite incredible advances in economic productivity there wasn’t a greater distribution of these benefits across society & the world. There is one passage in the book that refers to the “Robot & the rentier”. Alas he was an exceptional chemist & economic theorist, but a naive judge of the human psyche.
Ronald Wright’s A Short History of Progress probably answers it quite neatly. Humans evolved through “stealing” of wealth & resources, absorbing or assimilating when needed. Whether from nature, from other animals or from other tribes (we are after all – part Neanderthal ourselves). It’s in our DNA to strive to be the “rentier” not the robot. Those elements of the species that doesn’t aspire to this is either erradicated or rendered the robot (slave / debt slave).

@Mother Earth it’s hard for me to understand what it is like to live in a third world country – but my imagination will take me far enough to know it’s not how I see my current or future existence.
On the other hand, morally, I don’t want to add misery to someone elses existence who by birth found themselves brought into a world of without and calculated ignorance.
I can’t reconcile the fact that in this world – in today’s modern world full of technological wonders with the ability to solve almost any problem there are people still staving and living in worse than squalor
There’s this argument that the world has too many people – resources, pollution, poor management – and the cure is population reduction. The most human way to do this is by raising income levels which alters the standard of living, people then have fewer children. Study after study demonstrates this to be true – however, some say a cultural concern in Europe.
As a species what’s holding us up from applying all that we know? Are we still in the midst of manfestdestiny or is there a constant and forever unresolved conflict between our basic instincts and our better angels?
Is there a switch in our DNA where we reach a certain point in our development that tells us to give up, has pollution set that switch off?
Do we stand for something even if that something is nothing?
Think you’re going to ace your year at uni? Want to put money on that?

Despite genuine urges to reform their country, Americans ran out of willpower after spending months pressing keyboards, moving mouses and reading web pages to keep up with the latest news. I know, you can’t go back, so don’t believe me…but a week or so ago, I clicked a link at Jesse’s Cafe Americain, that took me to the Zionist twit Kunstler’s blog. I’ve suspected him of Megaphone involvement before, just my opinion, no proof.
And this twit, that alleges Israel is “justified” in committing horrendous crimes against humanity because of “Hamas missiles” (bottle rockets that can’t flatten your tire more like), had the oddest thing to say about the late Matthew Simmons.
Seems he had met Simmons at some Peak Oil conferences. Interestingly, Kunstler starts off with some diatribe about how he is opposed to “Conspiracy Theories” (aren’t you all?), then goes on to talk of meeting Simmons, and that he had found him to be a credible fellow, nice fellow….but then, says something along the lines of “well, he did quit suddenly from his former company and I don’t know the circumstances behind that”…so maybe his warnings about the Gulf are kinda not proven like…”.if THAT isn’t a lame “conspiracy theory” sentence, I don’t know what is.
Why would you even say or infer something like that about someone you know personally, found credible..never did you wrong, never seemed radical…then question why a 67 year old man would retire to Maine and starting a new alternative energy program? Get involved in his community rebuilding? Without any thought you might meet him again.
Just made no sense to me…..unless someone got the Megaphone memo to discredit Mr. Simmons. Now it makes sense to me.
And heck, I guess Jim never has to worry about explaining his comments to Matthew now, does he? Have a nice day, Jim. Matthew’s last thoughts of you may have been the knife you shoved in his back, metaphorically speaking, of course.
Of course we should always question and malign a leading expert of 40 years in his field when he strays from the msm TPM, right Jim? yes yes, funny how you question Simmon’s motivation for disclosing facts…which means you took the BP PR side…..which is kinda “odd” for a “doom and gloomer” like yourself.
BTW: would you please quit doing copy cat Edward Hopper paintings? Geez, they are lame and boring. He had class.
And on a completely different subject… Zionists still are terrorists, in many ways and methods, whether their good buddy Pres. George Herbert Walker Bush the Spook got them removed from the UN Terrorist Org list, or not. Still terrorists, in fact, I’d say the leading terrorist organization in the world, a Zebra can’t shed it’s stripes.
And they own “our” politicians.

Bregtje,
Really enjoyed your documentary. Very admirable, and achievable goal, with patience. Just go around them, Revolutionary tactics. You chop a giant down by starving him, and attacking his legs (financial power/stability.) We have a fascist giant, metaphorically speaking, ruling over D.C. right now, needs some starving….just don’t feed him.
However, since you are not American, I will forgive your ignorance about America’s “freedom” you seem to witness and I, an American of 55 years, longer see. I travel abroad, live abroad, and Bregtje, you could not be more incorrect about America’s comparative “freedom.”
It’s become nosy nanny state, with attitude of a sadist school marm. That wants your money. States quite clearly it thinks what you paid into for retirement is a “entitlement” for Wall Street to gamble with.
There is nothing more terrifying for someone my age then to find out the 100,00s of thousand I paid in, are not in my “Trust Fund.” Storm Trooper Finances.
When the people voted to legalize marijuana in California, and allow distributions centers for patients with prescriptions, and the DEA comes in and throws cancer patients on the ground, confiscates every bit of merchandise and cash, then leaves without ONE arrest, THAT is STORM TROOPER AMERICA. That is but one small example.
You don’t feel Max’s passion and anger because it is not your country under fascist siege, Bregtje. Think about it, please.
But again, you are not an American, so you do not see what you do not read about, or hear about, in American msm in your home country. You didn’t hear about it on CNN International, I assure you.
Thanks again for pointing out the evils of Usury: we Americans felt “much better about ourselves” after we elected Reagan, and he re-legalized it.

Dutch van Ladschot Bankers claim that mortgage rates are going up becausedutch people don’t save enough. Savings are 300 billion, mortgages outstanding 700 billion, so the hole is 400 billion, to be filled by higher rates on savings, that somehow have an effect on the rates of mortgages.
So in essence what is said is that if dutch people gad 700 billion in savings, they would pay very little mortgage rent, and get very low interest on their savings. Of course if there was so much money stashed away, we would simply by the houses, although then the rates would be so low we would not have any incentive not to borrow..
There is something very wrong with this reasoning, but I think it is to hard to explain to the layman..

After raping South Africa the FIFA is now demonstrating dutch stupidity. “The news I get” is from my Venezuelan wife and her family who live in Venezuela. I also know about 300 Venezuelans in Australia who have fled from Chavez’s Venezuela. Many more would as well if it wasn’t against the law to take your own money out of the country.
I was there for extended periods in 2005 and 2006. I saw the poverty and suffering and lawlessness. Venezuela is a basket case.
My wife’s family don’t want the US to invade via the mask of colombia, nor do they want to starve. They just want to work to feed their families in peace.
With Chavez, they won’t get any of this.

One thing I must request is if you can post your shows on another site because the current site that you use, I cannot d/l your radio shows (besides TAMUSA through GCN) due to internet restrictions. Perhaps a site like 4shared? Great job as always!

I drive an electric skateboard to work and around town as transportation.
It gets like 1500 miles to the gallon.
The other day I was in central California ridding around.
I was “pulled” over by a CHP who thought he was going to shake me down.
I told him that the board was “un-regulated” and that any judge would throw it out.
He turned almost white when he realized that there were no laws presently at his disposal to allow any further detention.
Then his partner came over and started asking all kinds of questions about the board because he thought it was cool. So the first guy got all dejected and said “come on we don’t have time for this”.
Stephen Hawking: Abandon the Earth

Published : Monday, 09 Aug 2010, 10:01 AM EDT
(CANVAS STAFF REPORTS) – Theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking has some advice for the people of Earth – it’s time to get off.
“I believe that the long-term future of the human race must be in space,” Hawking said to Big Think , a global forum that includes interviews with experts.
“It will be difficult enough to avoid disaster on planet Earth in the next hundred years, let alone the next thousand, or million. The human race shouldn’t have all its eggs in one basket, or on one planet. Let’s hope we can avoid dropping the basket until we have spread the load.”
great stuff from folks as usual here.
Sounds like basically were trying to figure out how the economic system will collapse and how to possibly survive it. Not a bad thing to mull over.
btw Linda McMahon won – does that mean I’m a genius or psychic?
a few more musings on stuff I read here
I read an article a while back that said part of the purpose of these wars was to establish usury in the Middle East. As pointed out here forbidden by Islamic Law.
–Funny how those two words, Muslim and Islam are often used in the media.
There’s still a lot of wealth left to be had hidden in many of these countries; water, land, oil, minerals…
We see it recently in Afghanistan with the discovery of a number of large deposits in the mountains.
So what’s in Iran? Tons of lapis, and where there is lapis there is gold. Lots of gold. Imagine a large oil rich nation, having good size natural gold deposits and plenty of agriculture. How on earth can western banker control them? Not to mention set an example for all other nations.
Regardless, these bankers aren’t done with the world yet.
If you want to see what the coming collapse in the US will probably look like go back to this time of year 2005, New Orleans.
From looting, to courageous acts by stranger and neighbors, to the fulfillment of overdue vendettas, to setting up barricades cornering off the end of the block with one notion in mind, “Shoot to kill!” If someone climbs over the piles of furniture you and your newly formed tribal neighbors establish in order to keep more than just the riff raff out, with an itchy trigger finger do what ever it takes to preserve the species.
No doubt we will see the best and the worst of humanity.
And for the wealthy… they’ll need enough gold, men and guns to keep those who don’t measure up to their power structure far away, or they will have to flee the country to some place safe; a newly bought Greek island perhaps, until they can assess the situation and wait for things to cool down.
In the meantime we will continue to slip into a slow state of servitude until someone steps up and uncovers the rot festering at the center surrounded by these financial oligarchs.
Like the current wars people don’t want to look at the ugly. As long as they can stick their heads out the window for an occasional breath of fresh air all are hoping that the stench will eventually fade away and turn to dust and they can pick up where they left off. Might be a long wait, it’s a big rotting carcass.
Opening up the world, opening up science and accepting many of its tenets has striped away the chance of a better after life.
A delusion deflated? Perhaps, there’s no denying science has cast a giant shadow over faith and with that, a new fear has replaced hell, the nothing.
If survival of the fittest is how it all ends then the money hoarders see this as the last stop.
Egotism, selfishness, it’s all the rage in the states. The US motto is now ‘Greed is Good’ and underlining that idea, to be greedy now means you are merely taking responsibility.
But I think the following quote sums up a Wall Street banker’s world view best: Bob Woodward asked, “How do you think history will judge your Iraq war ? George Bush replied, “History? We don’t know. We’ll all be dead.”
Dammit ! I bought 33 ounces of pure silver today.
Je t’aime.
@F.Beard
I do not disagree with the Torah, but understand, theories don’t confirm observable phenomena. Observable phenomena confirm theories [or not].
and I’d be wary of gold and silver and trading in other commodities. Under the new digital system those will either be obsolete or not allowed. ala confiscation.
Whats becoming evident is the elites want total control and power. And they have always done this through thier monetary systems they set up.
anyone checked this out yet. Article by martin armstrong. http://www.thecomingdepression.blogspot.com/
My own theory on it all is. The economic downfall was set into motion on purpose. So the ones in power could solidify their power over the world through one money system or another. The elites want to destroy the usa dollar money system and replace it with yes. A digital totally controlled system. Big brother will know everything about you through this system.

@Mini US
I was there before Chavez took over there were mass people without then
don’t go blaming him for all the problems.
You can bet the US has been sabotaging him every step of the way.
You can also bet the news you get has the neo-con bias against him also.
So is it perfect? No, but I think that they can prosper just fine without western interference.
@ Mini US and sorta Gordo
Chavez is out of his depth…yea I give you that, but anyone would be in his position…Third World nation states that are resource rich are in better positions against the ravegous of explotation but unfortunately they attract the most attention/vultures…
its the Faustian bargin, one needs outside access to world markets and development tools/expertise but at what cost…because the world is going to demand a hefty price and will position you into being dependent upon them…so trying to develope internally both verticle and horizontal is a way I would try…I would not become an export platform, nor allow my resources out of my countries hands, nor place my country into a position in which I am importing not just purdy consummer electronics but FOOD like Hatia, this will mean my society will not develope as fast as say Indionesia but I believe long term the society will be more stable and self sufficient
let’s be honest here the only country to break free from the west entirely and developed to being considered first world is Russia and that Bear was succefully placed back into hibernation (please don’t regal me of the HORRORs of Communism, my political affiliation know em better than you so tell me the good stories of Slavery and westward exspansion that lead to America’s industrialization)
China is still a third world nation with a portion of its country heavily developed…India is the same and so is Brazil…so I don’t know what one expects from a country like Venezeula….you are right the Indians and peasants are not doing as well as they should but I do believe they are benifiting more form Chavez’s reign than the one America would and WILL install
Venezuala needs access to global resources and expertise as any devoloping nation does but it needs to have it on as favorable terms as possible
hopefully Chavez and his supporters learn the lesson with the collapse of Russia….when North Korea’s and Cuba’s sugar daddy died both country had to face an immediate short fall of resources to run their respective society, Cuba was more politically flexable to meet the need and survived and North Korea wasn’t and their country has starved
Gordo I believe Brazil is our dog not as much as Columbia but she is and will bark at who we tell her to

Hey Charles, I agree with you…
“natural resources should go to the benifit of the entire society not a hand selected few…”
But that ain’t happening, Chavez has just taken over the role of the previous regime. The Pro-Chavistas get the spoils and the poor get what they always get. Un Rancho en el cerro (the little huts in the hills on the outskirts of Caracas).
Chaves is trying to make Venezuela independent, so he kicks out the foreigners and tries to do everything from within. The result, the people have no food. This is due to lack of knowhow and infrastructure. But his bloodymindedness and hatred of America see his people starving.
I can see what Chaves is trying to do too, but he is out of his depth.
@chArles
If Brazil can remain relatively on the left I think they will be ok.
However, With too many spinning plates on poles so to speak.

the quote was from the Mike Whitney for some reason the quote marks don’t register at work…so if any one is under the impression those are my words they weren’t…my work computer constantly cuts my passages…
my opinions on Chavez is I am naturally suspicious of any Leader…but I do believe the people in the country are better off under his reign than those people up in the hills who owe their alligeince and prosperity by selling off their country to outside Corporate interest….a country’s people and natural resources should go to the benifit of the entire society not a hand selected few…
What country did Mike Whitney visit ?

Sorry mate, couldn’t let this one go.

Always reget that I have always suffered from the worst aspect of the middle age man’s illness namely the proverbial “feet of Clay” so terminally unwilling to place my revolutionary swagger into action.
America has to make a move on Latin America….for over 20 years the collective attention has ben in the Gulf States alolwing for more independence in South and Central America than America can tolerate….America is going back in either via proxy states such as Columbia, Brazil and sorta Mexico or straight forward clandestine war with our own forces…it is just a matter of time…I am sorry I have become to cynical in my life but I won’t be surprised when I wake up one morning and something has blown up in the Straits of Harmus and Caracus
Re: Neighbours
In western society we are being taught to compete with our neighbours, not live and work together.
Its only when there is crisis does the human begin to consider his neighbour.
Thats why a crisis is necessary to stop all this rubbish.
Sad but true.
If all the banks of the world collapsed tomorrow from corrupt practices and fraud, then a new bank was formed next week, people would be falling over themselves to put their money into this new bank. Baaaahhhh Baaaahhh!
(Thats supposed to be a sheep noise)
Oh, am I describing IMF/BIS/One World Bank?
People see banks as a necessary evil. Well, they got half of it right anyway.
The Big Bang Theory is as ludicrous as modern Keynesian economics, but unfortunately both equally dominate their respective niches in academia. John Robb

Covering Yourself with light as with a cloak, stretching out heaven like a tent curtain. Psalm 104:2 [bold added]
The Universe is expanding. In fact, it may be accelerating. The Big Bang Theory confirms the Torah it seems.
Stacy -”…background noise happening in the markets.” This is astronomy/cosmology language. Background noise or background microwave radiation is a theoretically constant phenomenon believed [by the Big Bang theororists] to indicate the edge of the universe and its origin. “Red Shift” is a key concept in measuring this phenomenon. The chart Stacy shows reminds me of charts that map Red Shift. The Big Bang Theory is as ludicrous as modern Keynesian economics, but unfortunately both equally dominate their respective niches in academia. They rule, and are regarded not as theory, but fact. Both allow their adherents to gaze upon the universe/economy and imagine they know whats going on. Max has often spoken of Black Holes in regard to economy and markets. As non-existent as they truly are in real astronomy, the mathematical theororists have developed the concepts to the degree that everyone around the globe has some working notion of them in concept. Today after watching this, I am experiencing much enlightenment and fun appliying the term “Red Shift” to all that’s happening in global finance and politics. Red Shift in astronomy is completely misinterpreted and promoted by the bulk of contemporary astonomers and astrophysisists that dominate the field. It’s the theoretical mathmeticians in both fields (economics/astrophysics) that have led us into a completly false notion of reality, a house of cards built on the construct of Red Shift. No, the Big Bang is not in our past but more likely our future…
@F.Beard – yes, I guess you could say that . . . good morning!
Good morning Stacy.
@chArles
I was in Caracas on one of the first days of his revolution.
The first morning I was awakened by this @@#$$$ loud noise.
I literally jumped out of bed it was so loud.
When I finally got the courage to go to the window there was a couple of F16′s (I was later told) flying around this area that was several miles away.
That was in late 1992 when he was not successful getting to power.
The military had the F16′s.
From what I can say about that experience is that I am shocked at how few cases of PTSD there are. My hotel, I would guess was at least 2 miles from the action.

Everything about this economy screams “FAKE”. There is no such thing as a Utopia, constant change excludes it.. a monarchy, capitalism, fascism, dictatorship, socialism or communism? Under these systems there is always debt and taxes to pay… always someone to obey; we now obey the banksters. A sick, sick, social structure.
Please let me be clear, this is not to belittle anyone, as this monetary system was not a matter of free choice; it was decreed upon us, morphed into a false, entrenched, belief and moreover, it is all we have ever known over many, many, decades. Belief systems are about authority and go against nature, in that they do not readily, facilitate change. So people get down right huffy, when change is needed.
To extrapolate on the wisdom of … Paul Graham – A scientist isn’t committed to believing in natural selection, in the same way that a “free market, capitalist’s” is committed[pathologically polite] to the belief in the false monetary system. All he’s committed to, is following the evidence wherever it leads.
Not a scientist U say?, The scientific method came about as a result of the trial and error of the “common” homo sapiens and a stackable learning process. We are all scientist. The 5 senses we evolved with are are resource based tools to deal with our need for clean water, clean food, reproduction and shelter. Nature has taught us that the only constant, is change, inevitable change, continuing change. So voluntarily, using the scientific method, we design around our limitations instead of being forced into belief systems. Our basic, commitment could be to life, the planet and constant change, over a variance of time periods. You have a mind and you have people.

good piece by Mike Whitney about the silent War Drums in Latin America
Chavez’s policies have reduced ignorance, poverty, and injustice. The list goes on and on. Venezuelans are more engaged in the political process than anytime in the nation’s history. That scares Washington. US elites don’t want well-informed, empowered people participating in the political process. They believe that task should be left to the venal politicians chosen by corporate bosses and top-hat banksters. That’s why Chavez has to go. He’s given people hope for a better life.
Thank G-d there is no one in America trying to improve our social condition…we can have our shrill conversations about Muslims, Mexicans anf Homosexuals…America elites no how to bait the hooks

The meme is pretty old. Whoever saw that iraq movie with Leonardo the cabrio could also see parallels between drones and the god of the bible (allseeing eye, fire from above)..But there are plenty of comments on thei site that propheted your moment of clarity..
Brechtje is pretty cool..Apparently Max is misunderestimating the resiliance of his countrymen.Pity though LA is running out of water..
So the lack of law enforcement also has its upsides. I did have the impression when I was in LA a long time ago that the US lends itself to independent communities, simply because of its enormous size.
I overhead a conversation of some local politicians today and they all suspected foul play in the H1N1 scare..Dirty lobbying.
I’m on locaition building my cheap diy solar panel fab for under 500 USD. It may pop up on Hackaday.com soon. Cottage alternative energy flies under the radar..
Great show Guys! & Thanks for the Guest interview. I especially like Max’s occasional expressions to Stacy’s headlines/comments.
@Max,
Good news, Ben Bernanke agrees with you, and is worried about the deflationary spiral as well.
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/11/business/economy/11fed.html?_r=1&hp
jischinger – its going to happen, game theory will kick in and silver will be brought into play. Not enough physical gold = $5000 – $7000 they will take it to the edge with the suicide banksters then insanity will part from the barely sane at the rubicon of oblivion and the nay-sayers will turn.
So… why would government dislike the gold standard?
If you can’t finance all your welfare programs by printing money or scripts; you have to tax. When the people see you actually taking something of value, confiscating their wealth, they might decide that it’s not worth it or just. Perhaps they may revolt.
Besides….. everyone likes “free” money and scripts, right?
@jischinger
Your word may be your bond. But it doesn’t mean shit to me. I’ll take GOLD.
What you’re not comprehending is that gold is an anti-fraud device. You can’t counterfeit the stuff.
Why isn’t there enough gold to go around. You can’t imagine a car or truck costing $500.00
Lehman Brothers sat on a wall
Paulson said the markets will fall
All the kings whores and congressmen
Will have to bail out the banking system again
one little thing Max that slipped by in this interview and needs further examining and thought along with a few side notes and another long post by me….
Bregtje said, “…and he feels that now gold is too much in the hands of the rich people….”
My ears perked up when she said that because I have been watching John Paulson and remember this little tidbit from the WSJ –
“John Paulson, who scored about $20 billion of profits between 2007 and early 2009 wagering against the housing market and financial companies, is launching a hedge fund dedicated to buying up shares of gold miners and other bullion-related investments, according to investors.
Mr. Paulson told his investors he personally would invest between $200 million and $250 million in the new fund, which he said will begin on Jan. 1, according to an investor at the meeting.
Paulson & Co. already is a major holder of gold shares …”
After reading that I began to look into the history of banks and their relationship to gold, and even though I think gold will rise in the short term I don’t think it is a good solution or will go over well with the masses.
First, there’s just not enough of the physical stuff to go around.
Second, the process of mining gold is very dirty, not to mention what it’s done and is doing to the Congo. So unless someone figures out a way to filter the oceans I think gold as a standard will fail as badly as the Federal Reserve.
I think the Wall Street Banks will corner the market on gold and we will be right where we are today, perhaps in worse shape.
As an international form of exchange it might work, but only between governments.
What Franklin was saying in the quote above was in reference to Script, paper dollars – btw they are making a come back in small communities all over the country – like Brooklyn – some of the designs are quite nice – as a side note, the FT cards kinda look like money and worth about .35 each, but through the magical world of supply and demand some of the cards might be worth a bit more, least in irony.
Anyway, the Colonist’s money was worth what it was worth – a means of exchange for goods and services as Bregtje said.
When England forbade the Colonists from using this type of money and demanded the people pay taxes only in gold and silver this is what threw them, as Franklin said, into a depression.
By the time they were done paying taxes with what gold and silver they had left there was nothing left. The banks and king took all their wealth and gave them nothing to play with or barter with lawfully.
I think this is what the banks and the Feds are doing now, hoarding and not giving people enough in the means of exchange.
I also believe one of the most worthwhile people to know or get to know is a farmer, or buy a little land and learn how to garden. That’s a worst care scenario though ifen the American people don’t rise up.
Later on Jackson knew what the banks were up to – his likeness being on the $20 bill is probably one of the greatest insults to a president or statesmen. Hamilton on the $10 bill has no business being on our money at all… but that argument is for another day.
Lincoln also realized what the banks were up to when he tried to fund the war. His reaction was the greenback. The US did well using it until shortly after his death when the banks got control of the money again.
I also want to add FDRs confiscation of gold during the depression which made the prices completely unstable and finally what Bernanke said about a year ago, which was basically, ‘gold is worth what it was worth when Nixon took us off the gold standard. We won’t be selling it and we won’t be buying any more.’
So if Gold becomes the standard there’s just not enough to go around, and there are a lot more of us now. This will force people to create under the table paper or start bartering again .
And even if silver could step in for the little people there’s too much temptation by the banks to play with the value of that as well – I point to JPMorgan as of late.
After all the numbers are calculated what Bregtje is saying is you can’t hoard the stuff because only kings and slave owners do that.
So if the system collapses what will be most valued in the future will be trust, and who can you trust?
My word is my bond.
That kind of society doesn’t hold well for lawyers. Which usually wins the top spot in the, what profession do you hate most category?
Take the poll:http://financialterrorists.org

Another politician and a CEO killed in a plane crash – Ted Stevens and Sean O’Keefe. Probably all true but jeez, starting to get a bit para about well connected people buying it in plane crashes!

“You can only claim benefits in the UK if you have a bank account ”
This is not true. They issue a cheque that can be cashed at any post office if you don’t have a bank account.
The upcoming attack on Iran by either Israel or USA or both is NOT about nukes.. its about bringing them into their slave banking system.
In the Netherlands law forces you to participate in a pension fund. You are not even allowed to choose a pension fund you like. The pension fund I have to participate in has put most of its money in government bonds (40%), real estate (30%) and stocks (25%). Unfortunately my pension fund doesn’t own any gold or silver so most of its value will go to dust.

Savage Eye, an RTE series that takes the piss out of all aspects of Ireland, first episode’s on cultural life
The Old Testament
From the King James Version
[Exodus 22:25] If thou lend money to any of my people that is poor by thee, thou shalt not be to him as an usurer, neither shalt thou lay upon him usury.
[Leviticus 25:36] Take thou no usury of him, or increase: but fear thy God; that thy brother may live with thee.
[Leviticus 25:37] Thou shalt not give him thy money upon usury, nor lend him thy victuals for increase.
[Deuteronomy 23:19] Thou shalt not lend upon usury to thy brother; usury of money, usury of victuals, usury of any thing that is lent upon usury:
[Deuteronomy 23:20] Unto a stranger thou mayest lend upon usury; but unto thy brother thou shalt not lend upon usury: that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all that thou settest thine hand to in the land whither thou goest to possess it.

Good guest.
Thought Max’s comment about people’s desire for living sustainably is “in their DNA” was quite interesting.
People do desire to live peacefully and cooperatively with their neighbors and people do like to “pull together” against a common enemy. But this will all just have to be pursued as indivduals with maybe a bit of community happening with time. But people are getting very suspicious of their neighbors.
Read today of identify theft situation thought to have originated by the fact that the victim and the perpetrator exchanged phone numbers years ago because they have been living next to each other, one in a garage apartment and one in the basement apartment beloe.
Gosh, it seems reasonable for next door neighbors to exchange phone numbers, if for no other reason than for emergencies.
The way our city government here is conducting “sustainable” electricity and water usage programs is despicable. They are now having a contest where they will give you $50 and haul away for free your old energy guzzling refrigerator. If you think you better hold on to your old refrigerator because the new “energy star” models cost about $1500, well you are just a vicious energy waster. Two years ago the city had a contest where they were giving away a brand new tiny little, I suppose energy efficient, car to those who got their entry by reporting on neighbors who watered their lawns on disalllowed days.
The whole “if mommie is a commie, then ya gotta turn her in” is what my city government is deeming “sustainable.”
perhaps it’s the Islamic attitude towards finance that poses such a threat to these plutocratic Anglo-Dutch banking cartels. Hatred against the tiny Islamic populations in these countries is stoked up by the media and the government either turns a blind eye or else passively encourages it. Groups of violent young men like the EDL are allowed ‘protest’ wherever they like yet are obviously being coordinated and funded by someone in authority, be it from the business community and/or intelligence agencies.

Yes! Robotic traders are to Wall Street what drones are to the Pentagon & CIA–and what submersibles are to BP in the GOM: methods of machining Mother Nature into full-spectrum dominance under their mechanical thumbs.
I’ve been saying exactly that for weeks now. Can’t remember if I’ve posted it here. And the lousy search feature on this site can’t even find my user name.
Here’s an example from a comment on Firedoglake July 26, 2010:
How ’bout a shout out, Max?

it took the upper middle class to end Vietnam perhaps the housing collapses on the upper middle class will set things into motion.
“In one year, the conditions were so reversed that the era of prosperity ended, and a depression set in, to such an extent that the streets of the Colonies were filled with unemployed…”
“The colonies would gladly have borne the little tax on tea and other matters had it not been that England took away from the colonies their money, which created unemployment and dissatisfaction. The inability of the colonists to get power to issue their own money permanently out of the hands of George III and the International Bankers was the prime reason for the Revolutionary War.” – Benjamin Franklin
Very good guest, enjoyed her documentary.
Update from Ireland (same ‘oul shite)
EC approves Government’s €10bn Anglo recapitalisation
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2010/0810/breaking28.html
This is the third emergency injection of funds approved by the commission, following €4 billion in 2009 and €10.44 billion in March.
Price of groceries down 14%

maybe second french revolution on da way. dont worry perky sherby, papa jimmy protect
And Max,
Since you mentioned Ben Franklin, he was a big advocate of colonial script not gold and silver. In fact, it was the BOE that used gold and silver to extract wealth from the colonies. I recommend Ellen Brown’s book Web of Debt. Though as a libertarian I don’t agree totally with her solutions, her diagnosis is very good.
From BBC Newsnight blog
“We’ll also be looking at government plans to give credit rating firms a bigger role in tackling the £5.2bn annual cost of benefit cheats and overpayments.”
You can only claim benefits in the UK if you have a bank account
HA such irony the very people who fucked them over
So you can bet your life the banks will secretly make sure people claim. They dont care where it comes from – ponzi scammers, drug lords laundering, people made unemployed by them and now demonized as ‘cheats’
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-10922261
Cameron is an idiot he will be returned to his idiot early next year with 20% VAT and hundreds of thousands employed having their personal affairs looked into because now that they are unemployed they must be benefit cheats, same if you have a chronic illness, and claim – your a cheat, this is the insidious filth of the feudal hierarchy class structure + voodoo bankster capitalism held in place by spying and forced bank accounts.
How do you make people NON dependent on this filth ?
Stacy, I love your new hair style ! Tres chic !
It’s not just Islam that forbids usury:
“You shall not charge interest to your countrymen: interest on money, food, or anything that may be loaned at interest.”
“You may charge interest to a foreigner, but to your countrymen you shall not charge interest, so that the LORD your God may bless you in all that you undertake in the land which you are about to enter to possess.” Deuteronomy 23:19-20 (New American Standard Bible)
And the issue is not precious metals vs paper but of money types that require lending and those that do not. Common stock, for instance, can simply buy assets thus sharing wealth at the same time it purchases it. Then why isn’t common stock in wide use as money? Ans: 1) It is taxed and FRNs are not. 2) Why should corporations share wealth when then can simply loot it via the government backed counterfeiting cartel?
Also, it is ridiculous that the US Treasury borrow money when it could simply issue it debt and interest free.
Max, using gold coins in barter for trade is a sure fire formula for bankrupting your currency and your sovereign debt.
Your message of deflation is being diluted by buying into the hyperinflationist camp. You have bought the propaganda line hook, line and sinker.
@ Max and Stacy. You were on your game today. Very informative. Thanks for explaining this insanity and a clear, concise, and thoughtful way.
Time for change??? The bond market will have to come off its rails. Otherwise change is futile. The power cartel has their foot pressed firmly on the peoples throats.A slow controlled global demise for the majority of people. No change any time soon imho.
Revolution … how many are willing to really fight, not even close yet.
